Zara and Lessie return in Book 5 of this action-packed dragon rider series! When Zara and Lessie finally got their hands on a piece of the Dragon God’s heart, they thought their path was clear. Head to the Forge of Derynnis, gain the death god’s favor, and convince him to destroy the evil relic once and for all. But getting to the Forge is no simple feat, and it’s not even the first thing on Zara’s list. Between battling the Dragon God’s sinister will, evading Salcombe’s sabotage attempts, and securing the future of her people, Zara’s got her work cut out for her. And when she finally reaches the death god’s lair, the price she’ll be forced to pay for his help might just break her…
I felt like the majority of this book didn't add anything to the series; the parts that were important could've been added into the last book. There were several side stories that were completely irrelevant, such as the altercation with the islanders, saving orphans, rescuing eggs etc. Yet while writing about these the author kept mentioning how they needed to reach the God of the dead. It felt like the author was teasing us along because Zara wasn't doing what she needed to do. Additionally, some themes also felt redundant, like saving orphans and mentioning how "they've gone through such an ordeal," and blaming the wealthy for every problem. If it's going to be a long series, I'd like to see new material that is also relevant to the conclusion.
Zara and Lord Tavarian's relationship didn't develop anymore than it has throughout the series. It's still insta-love. We don't get to see any depth.
On a positive note, Walt is good a pacing with the amount of action and downtime. The series kept me interested until now.
Of my gosh, this book is AWESOME!!! 👏👏👏😍😍😍 My only teeny, tiny complaint is that it ended on such a cliffhanger, and I have to take time to write this review before diving into the next book in the series! 🤣😂🤣 I really am enjoying this series. I keep thinking the next book can't be as good as the one I just read, and every time, I'm pleasantly surprised!
It gave me Percy Jackson vibes? All the traveling and test and proving their worthiness, it was really nice Although I feel like the series could’ve been a few books shorter it’s still pretty good and easy to read
We’re so close to the end now! This book was definitely better than the last one! I enjoyed every minute of it! The descriptions of the world and story felt less rushed in this book!
