“I received an advanced reader copy of the book from the author, and this review is my own opinion.”

Austin continues the post disaster WW3 story arc in LA, AZ and the Pacific Ocean. The CONUS story slows for this novel as he spends this one explaining the last ditch efforts by the shaken US Navy to weaken the CCP assault on the W coast. It’s prepped for the next phase of battle.

Clearly this author's best work to date and a compelling book filled with so much action and such well-written characters you don't want to put it down. I read a lot of books but rarely does fiction engage me in a way I feel compelled to keep going but this book wraps you up in it; the smoke from the ship's fire, the dire tension of incoming torpedoes, the interpersonal conflicts and internal struggles with fears and doubt, the rending loss of a fellow service member. These things will grab hold of you and pull you under and into the events as they are happening. My one complaint was it ended and I want more!

American Spirit

This series is indescribably beautiful. I am saddened by the loss of so many lives. I am horrified by the bad people doing bad things. I am heartbroken and more than slightly naive at the fact that we are all people, and that shouldn't be all that matters.

I love the way the author portrays the vast majority of our country's citizens. America isn't just a place, it's a way of life and I am so proud.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is an adult. There is no intimacy or language but it's war, and there is a lot of violence. There are also non descriptive references to past and current sexual assault and rape.

America on the ropes

Non stop action on multiple threads as this story continues to unfold. Chinese invasions of Hawaii and the US west coast, attacks from the Mexican border by the China/Venezuala/Mexican coalition, lawlessness in the streets as gangs attempt to take advantage of the chaos of war. America is gearing up, militias are forming, it's been a long time since invaders came to our shores. Soon, we will make them pay.

This is a ripper of a story. The battle scenes between ships and submarines is so real that I felt I was on board with the crew. Each chapter is thrilling and exciting and feels very real. Still has me thinking about it. Worth the 5 stars and can't wait for the next book.

It keeps the world alive. The story feels real, how regular people would deal with a crisis. The only thing keeping me from giving it five stars is personal preference. Lou needs more pages.
