Rounding up from 3.5. Millie is a single mom of 2 children. She loses her job in real estate and decides to go to school to be a dental assistant. While she's there, she gets offered a high paying real estate assistant job and takes it to help support her family. She's running herself ragged thanks to her disgusting boss, who hired her on the recommendation of her lying, cheating boyfriend. The entire first half of the book is these two terrible men. We meet her love interest in the second half. He's a handsome, sweet man who swoops in and pretends to be her boyfriend when her ex is annoying her at a conference. Over the 4 day conference, she falls for this virtual stranger, Luca. It's insta love, but she realizes that she needs to work on herself and walks away. She eventually leaves her soul sucking job and starts her own business, which is successful. About a year later, after trying to save a local charity, she reconnects with Luca, who breaks up with his girlfriend after seeing Millie on TV saving this charity.

I loved the second half of this book, however, I didn't really like the first half. The first half follows Millie as she navigates being a newly unemployed single mom, who gets offered a job with a high salary, but a terrible and disgusting boss. Along with that, her boyfriend is cheating on her. That's it. That's the first half. Nothing else really happens.

In the second half, Ellie meets Luca, the actual MMC of this book. In my opinion, I wish it didn't take this long to introduce Luca, because he was amazing. Luca and Ellie's chemistry was great and starts off when Ellie sees her ex boyfriend while on a work trip, and Luca acts as her boyfriend so that he leaves her alone. Classic fake dating trope.

Paige and Ellie's friendship was the thing that saved the first half for me. Paige was willing to do anything to help Ellie and the things that they did to their boss were hilarious and added much needed fun to the first half of this book.

Thank you to Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for providing this book, with my honest review below.

Game On was cute, reading more as women’s fiction in the first half and a romance towards the end. Millie was a great character, I appreciated that she stood up for herself from the start even when being hoodwinked by her sleazy boyfriend and nightmare boss. While I wouldn’t say this read as terribly realistic (though some earlier events around how Millie was hired were explained later in a more realistic way) I enjoyed the shenanigans Millie and her best friend, Paige, got into as Millie embarked on her revenge against the men doing wrong in her life. I also loved how she took care of Beckett, her autistic son, and his inclusion in the story.

This is classic chick lit. While this can almost read a bit like two different books, with the somewhat about instant love with a character introduced later in the book, I enjoyed seeing Millie become independent and have some fun in others much deserved comeuppance.

BOOK:-GAME ON-A SWEET ROMANCE BY ELISE ELIOT

A Prose fiction about Millie,a single mom and licensed real estate professional. The story tells of her taking responsibility for a pay severance cut on employment while living paycheck to paycheck working for Debbie. It looks at her battle through sink or swim moments of her life and searching for a job in Paige's company after losing her job.It looks at the struggle of dating as a single mom and raises questions on whether there were difficulties in it actually. It looks at the game of buying and selling in real estate ,being a tenant,a realtor and an owner(owe-na with owe meaning depth and na meaning go in ikwerre language). It looks at office jobs and having to work in an environment with or with no respect for down time or offline and the regard for employees rights. It looks at tolerance of wrong treatment in employment and whether impact of job positively on ones quality of life could encourage such tolerance;whether a balance approach of not tilting to oneside when offering advise on marriage or to couples was safer and the best approach;whether making money and wealth changed people;whether there was a selling that was positive such as selling with a licensed realtor(celling with) as opposed to selling or buying(cell-in or by-in) from an owner(owe-na/depth-go with na for go in ikwerre);and whether an employee had a choice of opting out of illegal task or order given by employee;whether buying (by-in) and selling(cell-in) off residential building or properties for commercialisation (cum-air-shal-lie-ze-t-on with ze for go in ikwerre language especially with tenants in occupation and the import of quiting the tenants for the buyer and whether this has negative impute and connotation reference in encouraging prostitution, polygamy and women's rights abuse amongst others. The story discusses life's frustration and its impact on work where not resolved. It looks at telecommunication and whether phone is a distraction to work. The book also discuss topics such as aging of the female body with time and the body shaming of the single aging woman;legality of marijuana in some areas;contending with a male employers wife as a female employee;additional role of business assistant as a realtor and the job role;repair and maintenance by owner; coffee and coffee grounds usage for the realtor and need for deep cleaning; provocative dresses and tight dresses and whether they had a calming effect on a high tempered boss or realtor business or whether it was a distraction.

Game on..... Perfect title for this book first off.
WOW this book has soooo much going on and I loved it all
-single mom life, exs, cheating, revenge, fake dating, bad boss and sooo much drama and fun!
Amazing book, so far this is my top Rom-Com for 2023 and maybe of all time.
So we have a single mom with some issues happen and a bad boss, sooo much drama there and no boundaries. Then you have Millie forced to go to a work conference, so many things happen here and there is even a twist at the end of the conference that is shocking but you might catch on to it sooner than Millie. lol cant say much more here....
so many great characters and I love how you get the back stories of Millie and Luca. And Paige (Millie's friend) is awesome and you want her to be your friend.
This book def keeps your attention, I felt like I couldn't put it down bc every part kept having more things come up that I want to know.
The worst part of this book was when it was over, bc I def could have gone for more but it was perfect.
MUST READ!!!!!!

I would like to thank Booksiren and the publisher for the ARC of this book, so happy to have read it. The opinions above are my own, honest and voluntary. Cant wait to read more books from this author.

Millie is a single mom of two, so when she gets fired again, she has no time to wait to find another position. But out of the blue, the perfect position falls in her lap paying more money than she ever dreamed. But soon she learns that it was too good to be true when her narcissistic boss has her at his beck and call 24/7. She tricks him into hiring her best friend Paige, and they scheme ways to pay him back for being a horrible boss. But when Colton schedules a non-negotiable trip that includes both him and her equally horrible ex-boyfriend, she's determined to quit and stand on her own. Especially when a handsome stranger steps in to defend her.
This book was hilarious! I love all the devious pranks they played on Colton. The romance kind of felt thrown into the story though as our handsome hero doesn't even appear until over halfway into the book. Insta-love isn't my favorite trope, but the rest of the story was well worth dealing with that. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

In this book, we get to follow Millie's journey of being the small gray mouse that does everything she can to get her kids a great life but somehow forgets about her own needs. This makes her take a position at a real estate firm that in the beginning seems good, but as the days go on, it becomes a nightmare, but Millie is struggling with it because she makes good money. The journey takes a few twists and turns and Millie ends up meeting Luca. They end up fake-dating - which is very romantic. Millie finally recognizes what a wonderful woman she is, and she finally takes her fate into her own hands.
However, there is no room for love. But as with all romantic stories, this one also has a happy ending.

I can definitely recommend you reading it. It is truly inspirational.

What a Read!

This book has it all, great characters and plots, and a number of hilarious pranks thrown in for good measure.

I found the story riveting, and read it within 2 days, as I was always left wondering what was going to happen next.

Secrets and lies emerge, as does the start of a fake love affair, which may, or may not become genuine.

All in all, a very entertaining read, with some laugh out loud moments, as well as some cringe worthy behaviour from our heroine’s boss.

I loved it, and was sorry when it ended. This is the first book I’ve read by the author, and I hope it won’t be the last.

Thanks to BookSirens for an advance review copy of this book.

What a treat!! I started this book and found that I couldn't put it down. It sucked me in from the first page, and keep my interest until the last one. It was light-hearted with likeable characters (and some unlikeable ones too!). While the story was a bit predictable, I was so immersed in it I didn't mind.

This is my first time reading this author, but it won't be my last!!

I loved this story! The way Millie came full circle in her story and was able to make her way in the world as a single mom and to do it successfully really spoke to me! Plus who doesn't love a story that gets back at a truly terrible boss! These are all of the things I wish I could do to every bad boss I have ever had!! Highly recommend this book to everyone!!!

I received this ARC courtesy of NetGalley and unfortunately, it was very difficult for me to get through. The writing was very weak and amateur, which concluded to a poor story-telling.
The story itself focuses on Amelia Barlowe (Millie), a single mother of two who has just lost her job. She decides she needs a change of pace and studies to become a dentist's assistant. Not long after enrolling in school, she receives an offer that is too good to be true. Now she finds herself going to school, working for a horrible money-hungry, selfish boss, all while still parenting. At some point, she finds out her boyfriend has been cheating on her (witj his fiance) and decides to come up with a plan to get payback on both him and her jerk boss.
That is the premise of the first half of the book. The second half felt like a completely different book. It was difficult to follow along because everything felt so underdeveloped, and a lot of it felt pointless (like her going to school to become a dentist's assistant). I also did not like the constant mention of Millie being a single mother. It did not come off as empowering, but instead a hindrance. Many of the decisions she has made throughout the book were not decisions a single mother would make, which was very contradicting. Also, if she hated her boss so much, why did she stay? This book was far from my favorite - it felt sloppy, rushed, and poorly put together. Unfortunately, 2 stars.

This review was written in exchange for an advanced Reader Copy, it also contains spoilers

Game On by Elise Eliot provided reader with an opportunity to see what happens when a woman is able to claw her way out of survival mode and begin to thrive. Millie starts the novel as a single mom trying to figure out what to do in the face of very trying circumstances:
1. Her husband abandoned her to find himself
2. She just got fired from her job
3. She still has bills to pay and kids to feed
It is because of these dire straights that she begins working for a horrible man named Colton, he starts out as a pretty cool person to work for but it isn’t long before Millie realizes she is working for the devil incarnate. He places her in increasingly unsafe situations before she has enough and decides to get some revenge. With the help of her best friend she slowly gets her power back and takes Colton down several pegs. The problem with taking such action forces her to attend and real estate convention that she’d rather not be at but her boss demands she attend. Its while there that she meets Luca, her love interest, and they have a whirlwind romance. As a romance girlie I’m not usually a big face of couples not ending up together until the epilogue but for Millie and Luca I can make an exception. Millie needed to learn that she could stand on her own two feet before her billionaire love interest came in and made her already good life great.

Overall this was a very cute story! The first half of the book dragged on and not much happened other than Millie having a horrible experience with her boss. It almost felt like two separate books between the first and second half of the book. However, once they went to the conference and Luca was introduced, the book got much more entertaining.

A lot of it was pretty predictable but I did love the end and how the author brought in the foster care subject to the story. I also liked how women empowering the book was in Millie’s journey to be both a great mom and business owner. A cute story with lots of funny moments!

Thank you so much to NetGalley, Victory Editing Netgalley Co-Op, and the author, Elise Eliot, for providing me with an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

Game On by Elsie Eliot was an interesting read, though it ultimately felt like a three-star experience for me. The story had some intriguing elements, but, there were aspects that left me feeling somewhat detached from the characters and plot.

The book follows Millie Barlowe, a thirty-something single mom of two, who finds herself at a crossroads after losing her job again. Tired of the real estate industry, she contemplates a new career path, but an unexpected opportunity comes her way, offering her more financial stability than she's ever had. With a new job and a budding romance with an attractive realtor, things seem to be looking up.

However, as Millie navigates this new phase in her life, she faces challenges that test her resilience and ethics. She finds herself tangled in a web of greed and manipulation, leading her to question the integrity of those around her. Throughout the story, Millie's best friend Paige plays a significant role in guiding her decisions. It often felt like Millie couldn't make choices without Paige's input, which was frustrating. I would've loved to see Millie grow more independent and develop her own perspectives, especially during critical moments.

The narrative also had some inconsistencies, particularly in portraying Millie's financial situation. Despite being described as struggling at the start of her book, her lifestyle sometimes seemed relatively luxurious, including the way Millie judges some less fortunate real states which felt contradictory since she didn't come from a rich family herself. Additionally, the initial attraction between Millie and her love interest, Luca, felt a bit shallow, making it difficult to fully engage with their relationship.

Despite these issues, the book had its enjoyable moments. The friendship between Millie and Paige added a layer of humor and warmth, and the plot had some entertaining twists. However, the reliance on external validation and lack of deeper character development, then jumping to a fully confident Boss Woman, made it hard for me to connect fully with Millie's journey.

Overall, Game On was an enjoyable read with some fun twists and a strong friendship at its core. However, it fell short in terms of character development and consistency. While there were moments of humor and intrigue, the reliance on external influences and the lack of deeper exploration of Millie's growth made it feel like a three-star experience for me. It had potential but ultimately left me wanting more substance and clarity.

Game On is Elise Eliot’s latest romantic comedy with a theme of women’s empowerment.

Amelia “Millie” Barlowe is a twenty-nine-year-old single mom of two who was recently fired from her job as an Assistant in a real estate office. Millie suffers from low self-esteem, but others tell her how attractive she is and she’s obviously intelligent and hard-working. Millie prioritizes spending time with her children and struggles with being a good provider. She accepts a job with another realtor but decides to also takes classes in Dental Assisting. Her new boss, Colton, is a nightmare but he pays her a very high salary. Millie is dating Jon, a realtor with a third agency, but it’s obvious to the reader that she is just a side piece to him.

Colton lacks personal and professional boundaries and will do anything to make a dollar, often at Millie’s expense. Millie never applies for a job in a dental office because she is making too much money working for Colton. She gets her best friend, Paige, to work for Colton in order to get revenge on him for his mistreatment of her. Millie discovers that Jon is engaged to another woman when she visits a home that he is also touring.

Then Colton insists that Millie accompany him to a four-day work conference in San Francisco, where Jon will also be present. As soon as she arrives at the venue, Millie meets a handsome stranger who offers to be her fake boyfriend in order to thwart Jon. Millie is the only one present who doesn’t know that Luca is a billionaire real estate investor. When she realizes this, she decides to go back home and get her life in order before pursuing a relationship with him.

Game On is an enjoyable read. I only gave it 4 stars because it describes the day-to-day operations of a real estate office in too much detail. Colton and Jon are both “what is he going to do next?” villains, and Paige is a wonderful friend to Millie. Luca is so perfect he’s unrealistic. The comedic scenes are mostly Millie and Paige’s revenge on Colton. Although the book made sexual references, there was no profanity nor sex scenes.

First, I’d like to thank NetGalley for letting me read this for an honest review.

Oh gosh, where do I start? The first half of the book was rough. Honestly, I almost DNF it, but I pulled through.

Millie girl…..that’s all I have to say.

This book was written very plain. It reminded me of the way I used to write in high school. It was hard for me to focus and follow along. The second half of the book was like reading an entirely new book. The first 50% were eh, the last 50%, better. I don’t know what to write other than that I wouldn’t recommend, and I’d pass on this if I had a second chance.

The beginning of the book follows Millie while she keeps getting fired job after job and comes to land a job with a lunatic, to say the least. She talks about not having a lot of money and bashes her boss for his dirty work, but she looks past it cause she’s making bank. She also randomly goes to dental school and passes the test, but nothing comes out of it the rest of the book. It's a random and unnecessary add. She is also seeing a jerk who is a walking red flag. Any person could see this man was a dick. He literally didn’t want to see her kids. She was having a situationship and didn’t realize it. Thank goodness it finally ended. He was also engaged the whole time they were together. I could have seen that coming.

After dragging through the first half (I left out a lot, but it’s not even worth describing), we get to the second half, which changes the whole book. Millie is forced to go to a realtor convention and meet Luca (who is a billionaire, blah blah blah). She falls in love with him in a week, and he does too. It’s all very rushed and confusing but cute at the same time. After the event, she runs off and returns home, and they don’t talk. Like Miss Ma’am, he was perfect for you. I forgot to mention she’s a single mom of two, so she’s trying to focus on her kids and her life. Ultimately, she starts her own brokerage (I’m going to skip a lot here), and they find each other again. Just read the book if you want to know everything. I can’t bear to write it out cause it’s a lot.

In the end, she gets a happy ending, and all is well. Except I’m not. Cause I had to push through this book.

I am going to go in to some details that will be spoilers, so read with caution. I was excited to read this book because it takes place in the real estate world, where I have been my entire adult career in some form. So when I started getting into the day to day real estate office talk in here...I was less than thrilled. There is a lot of detail, and it isn't at all how any office has been that I have worked in. While I have worked for some greedy, crappy bosses....it was different than this. Also, Millie makes a big deal about having to go to a rough property and talk to the residents there and she makes a comment like she might get shot and doesn't feel safe. And she needs to lysol her shoes after being in some places before she gets into her car. That is pretty shitty. Just because someone comes from less, doesn't make them a bad person. She also made a comment about her autistic kid along the lines of "I wish I was like him when I was younger and didn't care about social norms and what people thought about me." Really?? There are several distasteful comments throughout the book like this that really put me off from wanting to continue reading.

Other things that turned me off were the fact that Millie makes Colton out to be such a greedy and bad person, and she says she feels dirty taking money from certain deals...yet she continues to work there while she has her dental assistant schooling as back up and could have left and done something else. So she is no better than Colton, and just as greedy. In fact, we are constantly reminded that she is making more money than ever before.

And I am sorry, but this woman is 31 years old. If she couldn't see the red flags with Jon not wanting to bring her to his place, meet her kids, etc. Than she is just an idiot. And her plan with her best friend to get back at Colton was pretty immature. I didn't really find it all that funny.

Game On by Elise Eliot
Rating:4/5
Release Date: 12 February 2023

Millie Barlowe, a single mother in her thirties, finds herself once again out of a job. Fed up with the real estate industry's ups and downs, she decides to bid it farewell for good. Just when it seems like she's at her lowest, a surprising offer from a prominent broker swoops in, promising a lucrative opportunity. With her charming realtor boyfriend by her side, things finally appear to be looking up.

However, Millie's newfound success comes at a cost. Her boss's unscrupulous pursuit of profit begins to unravel her life. When she's betrayed yet again, Millie reaches her breaking point. Teaming up with her quick-witted best friend Paige, a book editor, they concoct a plan to exact revenge on those who've wronged her. Their scheme progresses smoothly until Millie's boss insists she attend a crucial conference in San Francisco. Trapped in close quarters with her adversaries, Millie must navigate her desire for retribution while facing unexpected distractions.

I couldn't stop laughing while reading this book! The pranks they pulled on Colton were absolutely devious. Although I enjoyed the story, the romance felt a bit abrupt since our charming hero didn't show up until halfway through. Instant love isn't my top choice in tropes, but the rest of the plot made up for it.

Thank you so much to NetGalley, Victory Editing Netgalley Co-Op, and the author, Elise Eliot, for providing me with an ARC copy in exchange for an honest and fair review.

I thought this book was middle of the road. There were many things that Millie did over the course of the book that just felt out of character.

Millie is a single mom who loses her job in the real estate world at the beginning of the book and then decides to go to trade school to be a dental hygienist. However, while still in school, she gets a job offer to be this guy's secretary and help him manage his real estate firm. Millie decided to do this while still perusing school since she wanted to use school as her backup plan. It mentions that school a couple times throughout the book and then it just stops? Did she graduate? If she was that worried about money, then why did she finish the program if she knew she was going to stay in the real estate industry?

A lot of Millie's character is built around her being a single mom and how she would do anything for her kids...yet she worked 40 hours while also going to school. So she saw her kids when?

I was very let down by the love interest in this book. We don't met the love interest until the second half of the book, which made the first half even less relevant to the ending of the story. It felt very instalove-y, and I just wanted more? Overall the book wasn't bad, but it wasn't something I'd rave about either.

OMG, SOOOO GOOD!!! I flew through this book in one night and loved every minute of it. This is the second book I’ve read from by Elise Eliot and I’m LOVING her writing style, she’s hilarious!

This is a classic revenge against bad boss story which I love but also a heartwarming journey about a single mom turning her life around. The romance is natural and doesn’t feel forced which seems to be my biggest issue with most romance novels nowadays.

As I mentioned above, this book is laugh-out-loud funny and the mischief Millie and Paige come up with to get back at bad boss Colton one was one of my favorite parts.

I really appreciate that this book is about a woman who saves herself and doesn’t need a knight in shining armor or Prince Charming to solve her problems. I don’t want to spoil any of the romance but this book really delivers and I would recommend it to romance novel lovers out there. 5 stars!

Sweet story!

Millie Barlowe, single mom of two, finds herself pondering a change from Real Estate after being fired from her last job. But suddenly she receives a job offer that sounds almost too good to be true.

After a very short time at her new job, she realizes that her new boss is driven by greed. At first it's no big deal as she's benefiting by a quasi-profit sharing agreement. But he becomes more and more desperate to make a buck, and puts her safety at risk. Not to mention, he acts like a pyscho. She works up a plan with her bestie to join the firm and exact some revenge. Some of these little misadventures had me laughing audibly!

Millie is then sent to a multiple day conference and this trip changes everything. Not only is her lunatic boss there, but so is her lying and cheating ex-boyfriend. But a series of events are set to change everything.

Thanks to NetGalley, Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op and Elise Eliot for the eARC.

Really enjoyed this book it was so good.

Loved Millie she was great. She was a really good single mum and loved how her best friend Paige supported her and was there for her.She works for a boss who changes the more money he makes and not for the better.A boyfriend who has kept secrets from her and has been using her.

When it all comes to a head she decides it is time for revenge. With Paige's help they come up with a plan.

A really great read with lots of laugh out loud moments,a couple of cringe moments, adorable kids, great friendship, just desserts and Millie gets her well deserved love and a happily ever after.

A must read, will not say anymore as don't want to spoil anything.

Cannot wait to read Elise's next book.

I recieved a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

3.5 Stars.

The revenge plot adds a satisfying twist, though some parts of the story feel a bit far-fetched and overly dramatic. Millie’s journey of self-empowerment is uplifting, but the pacing drags in places, especially when the plot shifts from her new job success to her ultimate showdown with the men who wronged her. The romance subplot is enjoyable, though predictable, and doesn’t overshadow Millie’s personal growth.

Overall, Game On is a lighthearted, enjoyable read that celebrates resilience and friendship, perfect for anyone who’s ever wanted to take life into their own hands and get the last laugh. It may not be groundbreaking, but it's definitely entertaining.

Elise Eliot’s writing is like a warm hug from your favorite book character. The dialogue crackles with wit, and the chemistry between Millie and her love interests is palpable. I found myself laughing out loud during the office pranks and swooning during stolen glances across the boardroom table.

“Game On” is more than a rom-com; it’s a celebration of resilience, friendship, and the messy, beautiful journey of finding love when you least expect it. So grab your favorite blanket, curl up, and let Millie’s story sweep you off your feet.
