Fanny Burney, were you paid per word or even per installment like Dickens? That's the only semi-excusable defense for this repetitive, redundant, long-winded section of 'Cecilia'. I'm going to slog through the third volume too, though it may take me another year to do so; reading in installments was the only way for me to get through Volume II. Cecilia and her troubles are horribly frustrating (and BORING!); hopefully we'll have a bit less of them and more of the incisive social satire and often hilarious characterizations Madame Burney excelled at.
