About the author

Krahn, born Betina Maynard, is the second daughter of Dors Maynard and Regina Triplett. Krahn learned to read at the age of four, and began making up her own stories when she was only six. In fifth grade she won a silver "Noble Order of Bookworms" pin for her achievements in reading, and the following year she began writing down her stories.

Krane was graduated from high school in Newark, Ohio and received a B.S. in Education (Biological Sciences) at Ohio State University. After college, Krahn taught science in Newark, and studied for a graduate degree at Ohio State in the summers. It was during those summers that she met her future husband, physics graduate student Donald Krahn.

The family moved to Oklahoma, where Krahn finished the work for her Masters of Education in Counseling in 1973. In 1974, she gave birth to her first child, Nathan, with the second son Zebulun arriving in 1978. With two young children, Krahn became a stay-at-home mother for a time, also finding time to volunteer on a community board working to get funding for mental health care in part of Western Oklahoma. Once the funding was secured, Krahn worked as an HR director for a mental health center.

It started out so cute. Then the hr started believing she is jinked and it got annoying after that. 447pgs was too long. The surpertision got old. It's a shame bc I liked the h and hr. Luckily read for free on openlibary.

I read the same book but called Luck Be A Lady. Wolfram stole the show...lol... An easy read book. I enjoyed it best when the two Moms met and had to live together.. lol

A little more gratuitous sex than I wanted, but a charming story of luck, love, lust and loss. Charity Standish is jinxed, everyone around her thinks, and Rane would be better off not to fall in love with her, because he is taking his life into his hands to do so. But, Rane doesn't CARE - he knows what he wants and goes after it, and heaven help the Baron that gets in his way...

I read this book such a long time go but I remember how much I enjoyed it. Except for a little unnecessary scene near the end when Charity, bogged down by her constant jinx decided to marry someone else, but even that was funny as her decision was more to punish the other man with a life under constant bad luck than herself.
The characters were adorable, their romance passionate and sweet and the hero was a gem.

This was a book with a cute plot that could have been better at a shorter length. At 444 pages, there was just a lot of repetition and examples of the main plot over and over. The author did a lot of research into superstitions of that time (1800's England about), and wanted to put it all in the book. For me, it made the book drag unnecessarily. But I liked the hero and the premise.

I also made a comment under Midnight Magic, which is the same book. Wolfram was my favorite with all his reasoning abilities and I enjoyed the story the best when the two Mothers ended up living in the same house.

Simple plot in Victorian period.
How can you not fall in love with our Rane Austen, an ignorant, charmed, tall dark, handsome and barbaric that you will never ever found in Jane Austin's novel!

A girl who thinks she's a jinx... reasonably entertaining premise for a regency-type romance. Long and varied descriptions of superstitions were amusing at first, eventually became irrtating.
