Well that’s where I leave you go and grab and copy and read to fabulous Christmas reads.
Disappointed by my second experience with this author. This one was much more contrived, much juicier, much less of a plot. Maybe hardcore romance fans would give this 3 or 4 stars. The writing was fine, but it's basically guy and girl stuck in a cabin together so they can end up in bed. There was plenty of story potential to develop about the setting and the character motivations beyond their romantic wounds. I wish she had gone there instead.
Christmas really is a Christian thing for Americans, or so it seems. 😅 I nearly DFNed this book half way to ”A Cedar Cove Christmas” do all the blessings and god-related talk.
I’m glad I didn’t quit reading, because I enjoyed the second part of the book, the ”Call Mrs Miracle”. It was a very traditional Christmas story, sort of like a fairytale. You could guess what was going to happen right from the start but that didn’t bother me.
I found this book at a house nearby whilst on a walk recently.
This is a good heart warming story to read out loud. I loved every minute of it. One half of the book revolves around Mary Jo and her family etc. The second story is about a woman called Holly, her brother, and her life and romances. All in all two good stories to read especially at Christmas time and whenever you are bored really.
Five out of five marks. I enjoyed reading about Holly, and how she eventually is able to find the perfect toy for her nephew Gabe even in her financial difficulty. I recommend both stories to readers who enjoy that type of thing. In my opinion, this is a classic chick flick type story. I cannot put it down either. Recommended. Not for children however.
Okay so the writing isn't bad but it's so heavy on the religious metaphors. I made it through "a cedar cove Christmas" just about but when going to start "call me Mrs miracle" I had to just close this book before I even started the first chapter.
I'm sure these books are great for Christians but that ain't me - which there was a way to spy it from the off
Very nice, heartwarming book about Christmas. It shows what Christmas is all about - acceptance and just being together without asking questions. Decorations, dishes and perfectly clean house are less important.
I was finished reading about Christmas and then I saw this book. I usually like books by this author, so I decided to give it a try. This book will not try your brain power, but is a sweet read. The book is almost predictable, but is perfect for a rainy, cold weekend.
A beautiful seasonal read. Light the fire, pour a cup of tea and plate up a mince pie ...or two. Lovely characters and storylines in both tales in this book. A 'feel good' of a read.
This book features two of Debbie Macomber's stories - A Cedar Cove Christmas and Call Me Mrs. Miracle.
***A Cedar Cove Christmas***
Mary Jo Wyse is heavily pregnant and sick of being avoided by the father, she decides to track him down. Her search leads her to Cedar Cove on Christmas Eve. A dizzy spell means her path crosses with hunky EMT Mack McAfee, and leaves her ordered to rest. But with no room at the inn, Mary Jo is reliant on the kindness of her newly made friends in Cedar Cove.
I'm relatively new to the world of Cedar Cove so I was a little worried that I'd end up totally lost with this book. However, although I don't know the back story for some of the characters there is enough information here to make each one realistic. I loved Mary Jo and Mack, and it was great how this isn't the typical romance as it starts a year after the story has taken place. Grace and Olivia were lovely and I'm looking forward to reading their books. All in all, a great Christmas read.
Emily Merkle has a new job in the toy department of Finley's, a store that depends on Christmas trade to stay afloat year round. The head of the toy department Jake Finley has taken a gamble on a new toy, and he needs Mrs Miracle's help to get them all sold. But that's not the only help he needs - and Mrs Miracle intends to help him with his feelings for Holly Larson, a woman desperate to give her nephew the most amazing Christmas ever while his Dad serves in Afghanistan. Mrs Miracle definitely has her work cut out for her on this holiday season!
I loved Mrs. Miracle, and was really looking forward to reading this. I absolutely loved it. Mrs Miracle is her same slightly-cryptic self, and Jake and Holly were amazing together. But the real star of the story is Holly's nephew Gabe whose emails to his Dad are really funny and sweet. A couple of background characters were a little two-dimensional, but all in all I really enjoyed this and think it's a brilliant seasonal read.
Mary Jo Wyse has gotten into one hell of a predicament. Falling pregnant by a man that lied to her, Mary Jo Wyse feels ashamed. It doesn't help having three very over-protective brothers who have vowed to make their sister's boyfriend pay for dishonouring their sister. Heavy with child, Mary Jo heads off on Christmas Eve to Cedar Cove to warn David's family about her three over-protective brothers who are out- to- get the father of their sister's unborn child and bring him to justice.
When Mary Jo Wyse arrives in Cedar Cove on Christmas Eve, all the Inns are full; but then she discovers the true meaning of Christmas when she and her unborn baby are showered with overwhelming hospitality. With the help of a friendly librarian and David's half sister, Mary Jo feels welcomed and at home at Cedar Cove. Grace Harding, the Librarian at Cedar Cove offers Mary Jo an apartment at the top of the barn where the animals for the Live Nativity are being kept. Mary Jo hates being a nuissance and when Grace asks her to come with her and her family to the Church Service, Mary Jo declines. Then on Christmas Eve, all alone in the apartment over the Barn, Mary Jo goes into labor. With the help of firefighter and EMT specialist, Mack, Mary Jo gives birth on Christmas Eve.
I fell in love with this book from the first page. Debbie takes you home to a cosy place that warms your heart and soul. The story has a happy ending. I found I couldn't put this book down. I found myself crying in places, laughing in other parts and felt the warmth of the Christmas Spirit.
As with some of Debbie's books, there are two stories in this book. The second story is Call Me Mrs Miracle. This is a heart-warming tale about a match-making person called Mrs Merkle whom others affectionately call Mrs Miracle.....because whenever she's around, miracles do happen. Emily Merkle works for a department store on the brink of going into administration. With Mrs Merkle on board, the company is spared and a few hearts are mended. I also have seen the Hallmark movie of Call Me Mrs Miracle....it's heart-warming.
In a bid to read at least one Christmas-themed book during this festive season, I went in search of new books. I found a few, but it was Falling for Christmas by Debbie Macomber that really caught my eye.
Falling for Christmas contains not one, but two Christmas stories by Debbie Macomber.
A Cedar Cove Christmas
Mary Jo Wyse is a young mother-to-be who travels to Cedar Grove on Christmas Eve to find the father (or at least his family) of her unborn baby. Unfortunately for Mary Jo, the baby’s father is no-where to be found and his family is out of town. With it being Christmas Eve, there’s no room at the inn… there’s no room at any inn, they’re all fully booked. What will Mary Jo do?
A Cedar Cove Christmas is a story of love, faith and hope as the people of Cedar Cove show just how friendly and helpful a community can be.
Call Me Mrs Miracle
Finley’s department store is in need of a Christmas miracle when Emily Merkle comes to the rescue in the toy department. Not only does she help sell the toys, but she also does a bit of matchmaking along the way!
This story had a familiar feeling about it, almost as if I’d read the story before or seen a movie, but I still enjoyed reading it.
A lovely touch to ‘Call Me Mrs Miracle’ are the recipes included in the story. There are 3 recipes included – Holiday Sugar Cookies, Fried Chicken and Baby Arugula Salad with Goat Cheese, Pecans and Pomegranate Seeds – and all can be found in Debbie Macomber’s Cedar Cove Cookbook. I’m hoping to make the Holiday Sugar Cookies sometime before Christmas!
Debbie Macomber’s Falling for Christmas was a real joy to read and both stories left me with a warm feeling inside.
So, if you’re looking for some feel-good Christmas stories, look no further than Debbie Macomber. I’d hadn’t heard of Debbie before Falling for Christmas, but I’ve already bought some more of her Christmas books to read over the next couple of weeks!
I don't know how to describe this. Serious spoiler alert though.
A woman named Mary Jo is having some guy called David's son on Christmas Eve. And her 3 brothers, last name Wyse, set off to find her, bearing gifts of - uh, gold, perfume, and incense, as you do. Poor Mary Jo finds that there is no room at the hotels and therefore is set up in the den of the local librarian's house. Which is, for a lot of wonderful reasons, located in their stables. Where they are housing the animals for the nativity play, sheep, horses, camel, you know. As you do. In the mean time, her brothers are led in the wrong direction by a nasty man named King, but led in the right direction by the fireworks which for another number of wonderful reasons suddenly illuminate the dark sky, and which they for even more wonderful reasons are quite certain will lead them to Mary Jo. Thankfully, the baby is a girl!
The other story will delight with wonderful little catchphrases such as "Be ye a fisher of men. You catch 'em and God'll clean 'em", and "Exercise daily -walk with God".
I claim this for my reading challenge as a book with Christmas in it.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Packed with festive romance and fun, these two seasonal stories will melt any heart this Christmas. "A Cedar Cover Christmas" - Mother-to-be Mary Jo Wyse arrives in Cedar Cove on Christmas Eve, searching for her baby's father. David Rhodes had said he'd be in town. But he isn't, which leaves Mary Jo stranded, pregnant and alone. And there's no room at the local inn...However, the people in Cedar Cove are all willing to lend a hand ensuring there will be plenty of faith, hope and love this Christmas. "Call me Mrs. Claus" - Clare Keneally is a long-divorced maths professor with four adorable - and very mischievous - grandchildren. With Clare looking after the children for the holidays, their grandfather Jim also drops by and this starts the kids thinking...wouldn't Christmas just be perfect if they 'helped' their grandparents fall in love and get married again?
My husband gave me this book last christmas so with the season looming I thought it would be an ideal time to pick it up.
The first story is about a young lady called Mary Jo who is pregnant, she decides to go in search of the father on Christmas eve and finds herself in a strange town where all the hotels are full! Her 3 brothers (surname Wyse) decide to go in search of her after finding her AWOL. She finds a kind person who has an apartment above their barn she can stay in - I think you get the picture now hey, it was so cheesy that it was laughable.
The second story was very predictable and remind me a bit of miracle on 34th street, not sure if it was because the story was about mrs miracle!
Both stories are very cheesy, but are light quick reads. I'm not sure I will be rushing out to buy anymore by this author.
I brought this book as a birthday present for my sister(even though Christmas is long gone). Of the two stories, I liked "Call Me Mrs. Miracle" although the ending is quite obvious, an angel who brings back Christmas to a father and son who lost their family on this very day years ago. Mary Jo's brothers, the Wyse brothers, are hilarious. Thundering across Seattle in search for their sister who could be giving birth any day now, it's no wonder Mary Jo is so fed up of them. In short, this book is a perfect read!
I not sure where to start to review this book. It's not the sort of book I usually read, I tend to stick to historical fiction often those set in war time. It was a very easy light read, and you couldn't get more Christmassy if you tried! The book contains two stories, both of which are heartwarming and a pleasure to read. I am a Christian and this book's author is obviously writing from a Christian perspective. A lovely book to read in the run up to Christmas, a nice change from the books I usually choose, I would recommend this book to everyone.
It was a really wholesome story but it wasn't really my cup of tea.
1) The first story was actually really cute and I liked it a lot but I prefer more meaning In the story.
2) The second store, At first, I liked it it was cute y/a romance also really realistic but the ending ruined it for me completely. Hated the ending. It felt like they just shoved fantasy in a good realistic romance book.
IT TOOK ME WAY TOO LONG TO COMPLETE IT BECAUSE TBH IT WAS REALLY Monotonous.
Soooooooooo cheesy and predictable but just what I needed to take me away from the stress of organising Christmas. Was going to give it 2 stars but hey it's Christmas and we all like cheese at this time of year so it got an upgrade! Will pass this on to a senior lady in the village who will no doubt give it 5 stars.
If you are ever looking for something easy-to-read with the feel-good factor, pick up this book. I have never before read two more delightful romances that totally leave out all the formulaic angst that usually goes into such a story. Debbie couldn't have written better stories, in my opinion. Absolutely loved this book.
