A Cure for the King's Lust

Rate this book
Dear Author,
Who is this sexy man? And why is that equally hot guy behind him (to the left when facing the pic) staring holes through him? Are they lovers? Are they gonna be? Tell me EVERYTHING!

Photo Description: A brooding depiction of armor clad ancient warriors going into battle.

This story was written as a part of the M/M Romance Group's "Hot Summer Days" event. Group members were asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group selected a photo and prompt that spoke to them and wrote a short story.

Read the story here or find it in Don't Read in the Closet, Volume 4.

Thirty years ago, I started writing m/m romance. My writing remained a secret lest my friends thought me a freak. Writing about men inserting tab A into slot B didn’t seem the norm for a female teenager. Reading Gordon Merrick, John Rechy and Larry Kramer helped me fill in informational gaps. Yes, I read these books in my bedroom.

As the years progressed and I discovered my sexual path, I still wrote m/m romance, although the stories progressed from lurking in notebooks to hiding on the computer.

Running B-Side, an indie music magazine, helped develop my dialogue and description skills. While traveling to interview bands, writing fiction percolated in the background. Traveling also offered me new backdrops and locations for my stories.

Now I am glad I kept the writing faith. Six published novellas and novels later, my life is a fun quandary of too many stories hindered by slow typing skills. I accept the silly challenge.

When not obsessing over unique ways to describe erotic encounters, I enjoy reading, gardening or more like trying not to kill everything, traveling, arguing politics and teaching my house bunnies tricks. Unfortunately, the furry furies refuse to answer e-mails or blog posts. They also refuse to clean their litter boxes. Brats. I enjoy cooking for my beloved partner because she endures the endless experiments with grace.

I hope my manic devotion to words and romance connects with my readers. Is that a sincere enough ending? Drat, the sentiment needs work. Blame my sloppy muse.

Now for my bio’s promo section:

In 2011, Dreamspinner Press released the romantic Serpent and Elf fantasy Canes and Scales, the dark comedy To Save A Shining Soul, sad short Baron’s Last Hunt and the sci-fi dramedy Divine Devine’s Love Song, although I don’t think readers know about Divine. My next short novella, Love in Focus, was released as part of DPS’s Time is Eternity anthology. Although no animals were harmed in the story, cats did not like it.

Silver Publishing unleashed sexy incubus Amando and his story Temptation of the Incubus in October 2011. An Elf for All Centuries, introducing sexy, bratty Prince Fabion, released on May 26 through Silver with lovely reviews in tow. Huzzah! It also made at least one top ten list. Cool.

Cupid Knows Best, my comedic contemporary Dreamspinner release in October 2012, is my latest effort. I think I offended a few more cats. What can I say; my hero has hamsters. Guess that's not heroic enough for the masses.

I know some folks think it's tacky for the author to give something they wrote five stars. Tough. I am proud of this story. Since the story never enjoyed a professional editing process, I know it has errors, especially the one toward the front (arrrrgh!)! I beat the words to pieces but I know my limitations. Unfortunately I didn't finish in time for my beta to massage the words.

On the upside, the story owns heart, love and healing, and characters who inspire me to keep documenting their romantic history.

I deem such a story successful.

xoxo.

Wow the tags don't mention age gap. One guy is 72 other is a mere 23.

Also doesn't mention he is married to a female.

The duel went on too long and was boring. I'm considering just not finishing.

Aperently three years ago while his wife was pregnant he started taking up with any young lad that caught his attention and never stopped. Been "ruling the kingdom with his cock for three years" and of course being the king the lads can't say no. So why are we supposed to like this rapist/cheating asshole?

Not that he thinks of his kids or sees them reader only knows about them from his advisor saying he needed to stop ruling with his dick. Which he of course gets angry and violent about before admitting the advisor is right he is a whore.

Along with the unlike able character it's too wordy for me. And kind of flat. Like he is summoned which was already a long scene but then there are pages and pages of just him walking and admiring the scenery. Just not something that I find interesting.

Then the king manipulates him and admires how good his friends are at lieing and setting up the other mc. Where he then forces himself on the guy even though he obviously doesn't like the attention. Then the king has to remind himself this isn't another one of his rapes he wants the mc to want to be there so gives him the choice to leave and be shunned or stay and willingly submit. Oh how generous.

Then the guy says he's a noble king for not having him beat at his words. His words of asking if he was being ordered to have sex with him. Wow yeah noble is the opposite of what this guy is.

Yeah this story isn't for me at all. Not only do the characters suck IMO it's just flat out boring. And I dislike the writing style. I stopped at the first sex/dub con scene and have no interest at all how this turns out

Damn, long ago indeed. His brief life as prince seemed like another lifetime, an existence experienced by boy unscathed by exquisite treachery. The man who walked here now understood treachery’s vile facets, suffered from them, and ultimately defeated them.

And that is what I'm talking about when I scream out that I need detail. I know so much about the character and his way of life just from that one paragraph. I get a visual from that one paragraph. Even if the plot weren't unusual enough that it was gripping and the characters captivating, I'd still recommend this book simply because of the details.

Oh my, S.A.! I've fallen in love with your messy King! Gustav is a wonderfully strong and loving man, while Tahir, despite his horrific past, is a sweet, loyal and giving man, perfect for Gustav!

Now I really, really hope we will have the rest of their tale together: cleaning up the traitorous Tothans, dealing with the bigoted and arrogant Edvin, learning more about the mysterious yet loving Aglaia, and reuniting with the kind and powerful Jan - perhaps with the help and support of the loyal Ainar?

Last, but most definitely not least! This story is so rich with details and great characters. While still very alpha, Gustav seems like a wonderful King. I was so pleased to see that he could be sensitive and observant. And Tahir? Despite his traumatic past, he was fiercely loyal and loving. They were perfect for one another, but definitely need the rest of their story to be told:) I won't soon forget these lines: “My cock’s aim is quite true.” “My ass has noted the fact." *grins* This is a fantastic story, S.A.! Thanks for ending the HSD event with such a bang!!!

The premise of the story is good. I got caught up and confused with the language that permeated the story; it was very "over-the-top" and more wordy than it needed to be. Once I was able to skip over some words and still retain the meaning of the story, I was able to enjoy it a bit more. I think, however, that A Cure for the King's Lust was too long for what was trying to be conveyed here. I, personally, wanted to hear more about the dastardly son who was going to make his father's "new toy" pay for assuming to rise above his station. It was evident that Tahir was the cure for Gustav's lust; in fact, it was cured so completely they stayed together and professed love. But, that wasn't given to the reader until an "almost assassination attempt" happened to Gustav in another kingdom. This, by the way, was close to the end of the story when other questions then arose. Maybe a little sequel to tie up those loose ends would help?

I dont like to write bad reviews for free reads, but... Wow. That was pure shite. Lots of things were wrong with this. Mostly wording and word tenses and some sentences seemed completely out of order. I had to reread so many times I lost track. Hints to things were brought up then skimmed over. The ending made absolutely no sense. It's like the author decided in the middle to just write The End. Weird.

I thought this was a well played story. It was definitely captivating. My only disappointment was the abrupt ending. I did not see that coming and felt that there should have been a glorious epilogue....
