This is an excellent book that has made me a better professor already. We had to read it for a Classroom Management course in my Ed.D. program. I highly recommend it!
This book is a great resource for anyone teaching at the college level. It addresses instruction in both face to face and online classes. The authors have a wealth of shared knowledge and experience and their writing is conversational in tone. It feels like the reader has a helpful mentor at their finger tips. I have flagged so many pages with ideas about collaborative group work, tips for video recording micro lectures, and strategies for promoting rich and lively class discussion. The book is full of nods to current online resources, other relevant textbooks, scenarios, and engaging activities. i'm sure that I will be referring to this professional resource book many times as I look for ways to improve my own instruction in the years to come.
This book functions as a helpful reference for key aspects of teaching, primarily at the college level. Each chapter can serve as a concise standalone reference on a particular topic, each around 10 pages, with additional resources for further reading included throughout.
This is a comprehensive guide for college instructors. The 27 chapters cover all of the important aspects of preparation, teaching, and grading. It is readable and research-based. I'll admit that the size of the book (8 1/2 x 11, 1.25 inches thick) gave me pause, but it is worth the read.
