Easton U Pirates #3

Perfect Score

Rate this book
Walking in on my best friend mid-hookup isn’t supposed to turn me on, but it’s only sex, right? Finding intimacy is a bit discouraging with a neurological disorder that affects my legs. But Elliot gets it—gets me. He’s my ride or die and always supportive. Always protective too. Not because he thinks I’m incapable, but because he cares.

When I invite him to my brother’s wedding, he becomes the ultimate date. And when we decide to blow off a little steam with each other, I’m trusting it won’t ruin our friendship.

Except it becomes more than jerking off after late-night study sessions…more than innocent touches, kisses, and sleeping in each other’s arms.

Falling for my best friend is scary, but Elliot checks all my boxes, the perfect score that was right in front of me all along.

**Perfect Score is a low-angst, best-friends-to-lovers romance and a complete standalone in the Easton U Pirates Universe.

~2.5~

This is another story originally released for free on Pacific Works that I know I read and reviewed, only for GR to yank the book from the site.

ETA: Looks like I liked it slightly better the first time around: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I reread it just now and wasn't wowed.

I'm all for disability rep, and initially Morgan and Elliot were pretty cute as besties who clearly have feelings for each other.

But slowly the narrative became all about Dawson, how he'd hurt Morgan by ignoring him after they kissed (that kind of shit happens all the time, and not just in high school - Morgan gave it waaay too much energy, which frankly felt scripted).

Then it was all about Morgan's brother's wedding, and more Dawson, who had such a massive change of heart toward the end, I got whiplash.

Does anyone remember the title of Dawson's book? I think I've read it but can't find it, and it's making me a little crazy.

Audio: 5 stars, Kale Williams and Iggy Toma, both go to narrators. (Audio on Everand)
Book: DNF @ 22%

Can be read as a standalone.

Not even some favorite narrators could get me through this short book. I was bored and I didn't even finish 4 chapters.

I am bummed I liked the other two books in this series. Oh well don't need to waste time on books that don't bring joy! haha

I don’t have much to say about this. Cute and fluffy. Other things took up too much page time.

People could absolutely send away an unwanted stripper without being rude. That was weird.

Eh.

This seems like a weird contribution to this series. It has highlights of previous characters but you don't really learn anything new about them. It seems like a waste of a story honestly. If you're reading this series you can skip this one. It's not going to add anything to the world and the story isn't that great. It is full of unoriginal ideas that have been recycled over and over again in similar stories. You won't get anything new here.

Let me give you the cliffs notes version:
Two bffs who live together have an oops moment where one walks in on the other getting a bj.
Sexually charged feelings start popping up.
But oh no! What if we ruin our friendship???
A semi-fake relationship is agreed on because one MC has a wedding where a guy who kissed him back in HS and ghosted him will be there and its going to be super uncomf.
During the fake relationship stage liberties are taken.
Emotions and attraction grow.
They confess their feelings to each other and HEA.

BAM saved you from reading it.

You're welcome.

Falling for my best friend is scary, but Elliot checks all my boxes, the perfect score that was right in front of me all along.
Since it’s a 3-book series, I assumed it would be a story about another teammate or some other character who was introduced in one of the first two books. It wasn't about anything or anyone to do with any previous book. Basically, the only connection was that one of the characters had once, "sort of" played baseball with one of the team's players. What? How do you "sort of" play baseball? The book could have been set on anycollege campus or for that matter, written about any college campus in the entire solar system. I kept waiting for it, but there wasn’t any real connection to the Eastern U Pirates series at all.

I have read and liked some "friends-to-lovers" storylines, but this one seemed to be "off the wall", especially for these two guys. They were almost, from the start, the strangest two "friends"...much less lovers, that I had ever encountered. The first few chapters showed us just how "not good friends" they were, and not in the way that I expected. I will admit that there may/might/could have been a smidgen of attraction there. However, in the next breath, they went out of their way to tell us hownot romantically attracted they are... and how the "one time" that they kissed it felt so wrong that they both started laughing. So, I was hoping that another character would be introduced, or even a third one, one that kissing wouldn't have been so laughable...but nope...we're stuck with these two idiots. The idea we are given is that they just randomly "get together"... but at that point I didn't really care about either of them because they were obviously just a couple of random college students that were "experimenting" like this was their science project.

One is vaguely a nerd, and one is vaguely a jock, I think, but that’s not even really explored. Basically, their attraction is that one guy has a disability and low-self-esteem, and the other guy stands up for him and tells him how great he is. Then they fall in love.??? This did not even remotely fit into the "Easton U Pirates" series at all. Maybe little green aliens wrote this one because I can't believe this was written by this author whose books I have read and bought before.

This one was ok. For as short as this book was, I felt like more focus should've been on Morgan and Elliot. But for some reason, this book detoured too much towards Dawson. It was annoying. Not to mention, this one really took a detour from the series and what I enjoyed about the other books.

Sweet story. The writing felt very simple. Reminded me a lot of her Christmas Novella. I liked the disability rep. They like to go out for custard, which weirds me out 🤷‍♀️

A sweet, friends-to-lovers short story.

I liked how, for once, both characters were unaware of their feelings for the other. There was no secret pining, no unconfessed love, nothing. They were best friends who maybe, sometimes, kind of pushed the platonic limits of physical closeness, but there was only friendship between them. I liked how their feelings snuck up on them when they didn't expect it and the gradual evolution of them.

The best man speech and the scene right after were my highlights of the story.

I wanted to like Elliot and Morgan’s story 🥲 but it was very repetitive. I did enjoy the disability representation with Morgan and how protective Elliot is ❤️.

How everything went from the BFFs 👯 going to college and living together to Morgan’s brother wedding and save all the drama till the end gave me a bad headache 😩. The way everything shifted to Dawson and how he hurt Morgan, Elliot going to everything to support Morgan 🙃 it was wasted energy.

Morgan wasted so much time thinking about that one time they hookup and Dawson for sure doesn’t give two shits about it 🤷🏽.

This third book in the Easton U Pirates series was a bit different from the first two, in that the MCs weren’t players on the same team, just students at the same school. That being said, I thought this was a super sweet novella, and I am a sucker for the friends-to-lovers trope! I liked the disability rep and some of those struggles being shown, and I adored how Elliot was so in tune with Morgan and what he needed. The narrators of the audiobook did a great job, as always, and although it was a quick listen, I really enjoyed it!

It was okay, a feel-good story, but I'm not sure I'd have finished if it wasn't short enough to read in just one sitting. But I'm not sure that the title fits.

I listened to this and it was just a sweet novella that let us see the other guys in this series and if you are like me friends to lovers rarely can go bad. These 2 were precious and I lived that they did not want to put their friendship at risk. I will also say I adored the disability rep in this and how hard it can be when new people don't care to try and understand.

Before reading this book I ended up reading some of the reviews and while majority of the time I try not to I love going into my books without the outside worlds opinions until I’ve finished the book but with this I’m so glad I did cause it helped me keep my expectations down and know what I was going into and because of this I think it helped me enjoy it more then others.

This story is about Elliot and Morgan who are loosely connected to the main series. Both go to the same university as the previous couples and Elliot used to play baseball and know Vickers from the baseball team that we met in the previous book Home Plate.

This is a friends to lovers story with close childhood friends that has always been close to each others. Neither of them show any feelings for the other in the beginning but throughout the story you can see sparks starting to go off and light bulbs lighting up. Not to ruin their friendship neither of them ever entertain any type of a romantic relationship or crossing any lines. Like most friends to lovers stories these two never acted what some people would call “normal” always being more affectionate toward one another. Makes it clear early on that something was always there just needed something to bring it out and have them face what’s always been in front of them.

One night when Elliot is suppose to be having a hook up Morgan accidentally walked in on him and caught him in the act. I thought for a moment there was going to be a threesome between all of them. I was close to DNF-ing it because of this but luckily it doesn’t happen but I still wasn’t a big fan of this scene. I don’t usually like seeing my main characters with other people sexually when I know they’re going to be end game but that’s completely a me thing. I don’t like using sex as a way for two people to recognize their feelings for one another.

The other thing I wasn’t a fan of was them using watching porn together or watching them with other people as a way to get off with one another and discovering their feelings that way. I just wanted them to experience things with just them and take it a little bit slow when it came to that.

With all that said once Morgan and Elliot started discovering their feelings and expressing themselves I really got into the story and was rooting for these two childhood friends to get together. It was super cute the way they just loved on each other and being affectionate without realizing they were acting like a couple even more now that they started exploring sex with each other. One of my favorite things was how they communicated with each other about their feelings every step of the way so both knew where the other person was. I really appreciated this.

Everything changed when we get to the end at Morgan’s older brother’s wedding. Through some misunderstandings Elliot thought Morgan was crushing or going back to his first crush who happens to be his brother’s best friend. Everything works out but I love the way Morgan expresses his feelings in a speech towards Elliot and how they get together official at the wedding. It was super cute and I like how everything got handled with Morgan’s brother’s best friend. He was a complete asshole but seeing him take accountability for his actions and start accepting who he truly is was really beautiful and I can imagine how hard it was.

I absolutely loved the disability representation in this book with Morgan and how that gets shown through in this book and how people with disability are still and can be independent people and how able body people can still freak out when face with something that they are unfamiliar with.

Overall this was just okay. It had its good moments and things I enjoyed but there was also things I wasn’t a huge fan of. I still liked my time reading about Elliot and Morgan and if you like this series and this author I would still recommend it and give it a try. Even though it’s loosely connected to the main series it was still a cute and easy read. I’m still looking forward to more from this author.

While usually I'm a HUGE fan of Christina, a definite auto-buy / auto-read, this one didn't work for me. I don't know exactly why. I thought maybe it was them being rather young (this IS New Adult), but I think it's mostly the way they circled each other didn't get me excited, rather frustrated by their redundant thoughts, trying to justify every little step they made outside of their friendship as "not a big deal" while it CLEARLY was for both of them.

Elliot and Morgan have been best friends for years. They love each other dearly and couldn't see themselves living without one another (which is another justification for NEVER changing their bestfriends dynamics). Morgan has a certain disability. I like the way Christina finds unique yet genuine characters, flawed like we all are, even if we don't share exactly what the MCs are dealing with. For Morgan, this is who he is but he IS frustrated people - guys - think less of him or are not interested in him (sexually) due to his disability. Another reason to love Elliot who sees FAR past Morgan's daily difficulties.

When Morgan walks into their apartment and sees Elliot hooking up, he is embarrassed, frustrated and mostly VERY turned on. From there, the road to exploring more between them starts. It's a slippery slop. It happens gradually and almost naturally. Especially with Morgan being stressed out about his brother's upcoming wedding and Elliot stressed about his grades. They have enough pent up frustration as well as a need to find comfort in each other's arms. Which is exactly what happens...

This COULD have been a fabulous novella, there is a lot to like about the MCs, their relationship and it's progression and yet I was frustrated with both of them. Morgan more than Elliot actually. Especially concerning his brother's best friend and what happened with him 8 years ago. While I understood why it made "an impression" and was hard to push aside, I also didn't understand why he was making such a big deal about it NOW. It almost felt like the whole thing was there only for the "big finale" and the resolve of the novella.

While this novella is a part of the "Easton U Pirates", and we DO get a bit of the two couples from the previous installments - which was great! - it's not exactly connected as neither of the guys play any sports though Elliot is friends with the guys on the team (as an ex-player).

All in all, an okay read.

Perfect Score is a very sweet, friends-to-lovers story with a bit of spice. Elliot & Morgan’s story was easy to read, low angst and entertaining, despite offering few surprises. These two are clearly in some type of relationship, one they’ve chosen to define as best friendship, although I don’t believe it’s ever been quite that simple. Theirs is a classic case of everything you’re looking for being right in front of you, and I enjoyed watching them realize, accept and embrace who they are to one another. Never mind that the moment when things change is super hot. And I mean combustible.

I enjoyed revisiting the Easton U world; it was fun to see those couples again. I’m not sure if Christina Lee plans to write more books in this series, but I hope so because I’m super curious about Ryan’s friend Dawson. There’s a whole lot of anguish and suffering there, and I’d love to see what’s next for him in his journey to self-acceptance.

sigh I'm sad I'm all for best friends getting it on and finish their forever love but even the epiloque needed to mention Dawson there isn't another book but it felt like it tried to justify his behavior that wasn't even that bad to begin with and tried to make you want to read his story.. but then I don't think there is another book to this series. . also I am so not interested in Dawson. I loved the main couples friendship but it got snowed under by drama that didn't make sense .. if I don't want a stripper on my bachelor party i would say no thank you sorry and made sure she was paid. hell no that I would let that happen..and I get the trope of fake date but the way they kissed goes beyond the fake dating excuse and it felt there was no introspection on Eliot parts about that apart from one line that fater the wedding he couldn't touch Morgan anymore whenever he wanted..
this wasn't it for me.

“That was what I realized standing up there. That it was you. It’s always been you.”

We've got a sweet friends-to-lovers romance with disability rep.

Christina Lee always does friends-to-lovers well. She writes the small intimacies and the big feelings so good.

We've got friends cautiously sexually exploring while still trying to hold their friendship front and centre and oops big feelings.

I enjoyed this a lot. It's a feel good book and I think the connection between Elliot and Morgan is so lovely.

The only issue I had was that either in my brain Morgan and Elliott are similar names and so I was often getting confused with who was who. That or there needed to be something more to differentiate them but regardless, I enjoyed this novella.

I'm curious if Dawson is getting a book at some point.

I love the disability representation! One of the lead main characters Elliot developed a disability as he got older. His best friend Morgan has always been there.

When Elliot walks in on Morgan and a makeout session, Elliot watches most of it. It suddenly changes their friendship into more.

The book wasn't bad but wasn't great IMO. I enjoyed reading about the friendship turned into more. These men have always been into each other more than most friends. They've kissed, um...do spicy things next to each other, so a relationship doesn't surprise me.

Overall a decent novel. I'm curious how the rest of the series will be.

This is a cute, heartwarming, best friends-to-lovers novella. I liked both Morgan and Elliot and they made wonderful friends who sort of slid into a friends-with-benefits situation that got them both thinking about more. There is more depth to these characters due to Morgan's unique physical challenges and Elliot's complete acceptance, understanding, support, and the fact he sees the man and not his disability. I also liked that Morgan wanted to support others in their quest for acceptance. I also enjoyed a few peeks at some of the other Easton U characters, but this stands alone.

It was fine. Corny but cute. Nothing new or earth shattering but an easy, feel good read. It wasn’t as enjoyable as the first two books but it was also much shorter. It was a very quick read. Always fun having the cameos from familiar names & couples but I missed the team dynamic a lot. It was part of what made the series so fun. The couple is essentially married from the jump & just finding sex with randoms so there wasn’t really a falling in love piece so much of a “hey, we may as well fool around” happening. They’re still a likable couple though.

3.5/5. This book was cute! I really enjoyed Elliot and Morgan. I like that they were such great friends and it naturally turned to more. I like how Elliot cared for Morgan without being overbearing. I enjoyed the conflict of Morgan's brother's wedding and the other groomsman having ghosted him. The light jealousy from the other groomsman and from Elliot was fun. This was a short read, but I enjoyed it. I also appreciated the disability rep.

Because this book is so short, we're jumping right into the relationship instead of growing with the characters. It's fine for a quick emotional read. I do love the fact that his disability isn't made one of the characters on their own. I find that a lot of authors like to write the disability as a character in the story and that's simply not good. I was happy to see that this did not occur in the storyline.

This novella was the perfect length. I felt like we got the entire story and I wasn't left wishing it was longer, which is the case for a lot of novellas for me. I love a friends to lovers story, and I thought the disability rep was well done. It was sweet to see the the way that Elliot cared and looked out for Morgan while still allowing him to have his independence and not seeing him solely in the lense of the limits of his disability

This was short and sweet. For as short as it was, there was kind of a lot going on. Elliot and Morgan were cute together though - supportive and very close best friends that begin to see each other in a new light after Morgan walks in on Elliot mid-hookup.

I listened to the audiobook and Iggy Toma and Kale Williams did nice jobs, as usual. And while this is a standalone, it was nice seeing some familiar faces from the other books in the series.

this was not for me. i started skipping too early in the book because there was just nothing happening. the main characters did not have any chemistry in my opinion and they did feel like brothers to me. so when they started doing the devils tango it felt wrong. adding to that the book did not have any additional content really. so all in all very much not worth it.
