Fresh off a broken engagement, I discover I'm the descendent of the first licensed female pilot in California, my name sake, the first Emily Parker. Now there's only one thing to do, right? Take flying lessons, of course. It must be in my blood. Except the grumpy former Air Force pilot who's taken over his late father's flight school under duress doesn't seem thrilled to see me.
Maybe that's because I spilled hot coffee all over his crotch in one of my "I love Lucy" moments.
So far he claims I'm responsible for his aching jaw (bar fight, don't ask) and the spilled coffee. He's not sure he can trust me around heavy machinery. Probably not, but if Stone wants to rescue his late father's flight school he needs students.
What do I need?
To say goodbye to my good girl image. And secondly, it's time to break every one of my rules.
For fans of Lucy Score, Christina Lauren and Katherine Center.
(Fully revised and previously published by Harlequin in 2017)
A fun, sweet & sexy read, all rolled into one! The main characters have great chemistry and a quick wit with each other that has you smiling as you are reading. There were a couple of slow spots, but overall, it was a great read that has you thinking about redemption for regrets from the past, and the fact that it's never too late to reach for your dreams!
Emily Parker is spending a lot of time re-thinking her life. She's recently split from the fiance she thought she was going to spend the rest of that life with, and it's making her realize she doesn't want to be the reliable good-girl anymore ... she wants to live a little!
Former Air Force pilot Stone Mcallister is only staying in town long enough to get his dad's estate in order before he rejoins the Air Force. He's not a forever kind of guy, but when Emily Parker crosses his path, he wonders if maybe he could be! Agreeing to help her get her pilot license is a big step for him because it means he has to have temptation by his side day in and day out. When she also decides to throw in the offer for a one-night fling, he just can't help himself! Will he see that maybe forever isn't so bad?
A sweet slow building romance with a lot of emotions thrown in too.
Emily and Stone were really sweet together although I struggled to connect to Stone and I think that was because his job reminded me of my ex as that's what he does, there was nothing wrong with the writing or his character at all it was maybe just to close to home for me. That been said I did really enjoy their story and journey and my emotions certainly were allover.
Small town romance between two complete opposites, I look forward to more in this series.
Good girl Emily Parker decides that if her namesake great-grandmother could be the first woman to obtain a pilot's license, she should, too. Trouble is, the guy who's running the flight school really gets on her last nerve! Former Air Force pilot Stone McAllister isn't interested in teaching Emily, but, hey, he might as well, while he fights his estranged sister from trying to sell off his late father's property.
While sparks fly between them, Emily concludes that she needs to take a page from her younger sister's playbook and change the rules that have always governed how Emily interacts with men. But her new rules boomerang on her, no longer protecting her from herself and what she really wants.
How Stone handles Emily's forwardness and his own emotions make for an entertaining read perfect for warming ones heart on cold, rainy days of late winter.
A must read sweet and romantic love story between two amazing characters! Sassy Emily is immediately lovable from the very first page. She's extremely quick witted- and virtually everyone in the town knows how wronged she has been by her ex fiance, Greg. While Emily is extremely used to rigid normalcy, thanks to her set of life rules- she is thrown for a complete loop by Stone Mccallister. Stone is in town settling his father's estate- and wants nothing more than a one night stand, because he believes it's all he's good for. These two characters tend to heal each other, in more than one steamy, VERY steamy way. I loved how every loose end was completely tied up in this story- you aren't left with any questions involving any characters. The way the story incorporates Emily's sister Molly in too- is simply amazing, as well. Loved this author's writing style, and how developed Emily was as a character- I definitely want a friend like Emily. Hilarious, laugh out loud moments at Emily's clumsiness too. This book as it all!
I absolutely enjoyed this book. It's humorous, sweet and sexy. Emily is sassy but likes to play it safe. After her broken engagement Emily decides to enforce her rules. Stone is sexy former airman not looking to stick around. The chemistry between Emily and Stone is off the charts hot. Also love the banter between them. Emily klutzy moments will have you laughing. Will Emily and Stone both break their rules to take a chance? This is a great read. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.
This is the first time I think I have read this author which is surprising because I do love Harlequin. This one is the perfect one to jump into if you want negative pushed out the door filling it in with some good ole fashioned romance. Even though Emily is kinda stubborn at first with her rules, you know what they say about them sometimes. Stone is one you want to watch also with his heart that is hurting but still filled with warmth he gets under your skin fast. It is humorous how they meet and from there you have to follow their escapades as I call them. You will get so caught up in their time that you forget time around you as it fills you up. In between you get another story with her sister and her mistake she is trying to correct which will also warm the heart. All in all I so needed to read this one just because of the tone of it with it leaving me with a good story when finished that I was glad of the ending.
I received a free copy and choose to leave a review. This is the first lol of Heather's that I have read but I will be looking to read more. Emma and Stone captured my interest right away. I was with them every step of the way as they worked through the situations and emotions of their lives. It was very realistic. Then in comes other family members- Molly, Dylan, Dad, Grammy, Sarah!! All of them just added another dimension to the reality of life in the book. Keep writing Hatherly and we will keep reading
It's like Stone always knows what to say, “you could never be one of the guys, babe. I don’t sleep with the guys.” He let his hand dive under the covers, exploring..." Stone is a man that moves quick, “you have too many clothes on.”He resolved that in seconds flat..." I really enjoyed this book, it was like getting two love stories in one, Stone and Emily, and then Emily's sister Molly and Dylan.

Bell’s Small Town romance offering and her kick off to her new series offers an intimate look at small town life and in particular mostly close knit Parker and dysfunctional Mcallister’s familes
Emily Parker is tried. Tired of being the good girl that has everything go wrong for her despite doing everything right. Fixing up her little sister’s problems and a broken engagement was the last straws. Especially now her father is in Texas playing ranch owner, leaving Emily to try to find more money for their business before things get bad. The same father who treats Emily like she has no clue what she is doing and her younger reckless sister Mia as the good girl.
With always a smile on her face and willing to help out everyone loves her but doesn’t see Emily deeply wants. Things that everyone else has and her life is a constant reminder.
Until she a life shattering moment when she learns about something her ancestor that sets this good girl to learn her good image drop a little bit and walk on the wild side by getting her pilot’s license with a sexy Air Force Pilot who she meet a couple things around town who she wouldn’t mind to get to know better. However Stone doesn’t want to know her exactly even though he is intrigued by Emily. He wants out of the town as soon as he can get through to his sister.
Stone McAllister wants to sell his beloved father’s business off and get back to the Air Force. This stop is temporarily. The army is home. However his sister is holding things up and he stuck for now. Stone just wants things done and doesn’t know to talk as the past has hurt his sister and he doesn’t know what to do with the woman she has become.
Emily is a welcome distracted with the opportunity to focus on what she loves even though she interest him on a personal level as well. He isn’t looking for a permanent relationship but when Emily offers him a chance for a no strings fling. He can’t help take it up to get her out his system but Emily isn’t just any other girl
A slow burning romance which is always a treat. This wasn’t what I was expecting when I picked up my first Bell book. I loved that it was truly a small town romance and I loved she interject with Emily’s sister Molly story as well as Emily took her stand which was nearly a story in itself . Breaking Emily’s Rules was a fun sweet yet sexy story. Told in dual POV’s you will quickly fall in love with this small town romance that keeps on giving.
Relatively light hearted small town romance between a klutzy good girl with her rules & a sexy Air Force pilot passing through
Breaking Emily’s Rules by Heatherly Bell was my first time reading this author and I really enjoyed this small town, temporary, no strings, romance between two really likeable characters. The book is well written and had a steady plot that slowly develops with enough twists to keep you intrigued from start to finish.
Stone and Emma, who tell the book through dual point of view, have an instant attraction to each other as soon as their eyes meet. Emma, a klutzy good girl with a stickler for her rules, and Stone, a former Air Force pilot temporarily passing through, appear at first as complete opposites but that soon changes as they get to know each other and when Emma finally decides to try and live ‘wildly’. The relationship between the two is a bit of a slow burn type, although the chemistry between them is undeniable. Having the two work together in a student / teacher role added a fun but good foundation to the characters developing their relationship and adding a level of believability to the feelings that arise. Both characters were likeable and through the various sub-characters used, who were also reasonably likeable, they helped to develop the two main characters further.
Breaking Emily’s Rules is a relatively light hearted small town romance, with an undertone of tension, that is well written with a steady plot and good flow. Things do heat up between the two characters but the steamy scenes are few in comparison to the whole book and only help emphasise the relationship and attraction between the two characters rather than override the plot. It can be read as a standalone as it has a HEA for Stone and Emma, with an epilogue cementing the HEA and tying up things in their story.
Finally, while Stone and Emma’s story is told from their point of view, you almost get two books in one as there is a sub-plot line told from Emma’s sister Molly’s perspective regarding her own separate story that is going on at the same time as the main plot. It’s only a couple of scenes but important glimpses to tell her story. It is a sweet bonus read but doesn’t take too much away from the main plot.
Overall, this is a well written small town romance that I enjoyed and would recommend to any romance fans out there. I will definitely keep a look out for more books by Heatherly Bell.
*I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
This certain fulfilled its promise as a contemporary romance, it was just what I would have both wanted and expected from a story that seemed to be bursting at the seams to make me happy. Emily had reason to be the way she was, her rules were her defence mechanism, her way of keeping her heart safe and sound, to stop anyone from hurting her again, after all she had already been down that route and treading the same path again was not an option. But what is it they say about the best laid plans…they have a habit of falling apart when you least expect it. Emily didn’t want a relationship, shin fact she wanted as little as possible to do with men as possible but romantic involvement, no chance. Well that was until Stone McAllister because the strapping Air Force Sergeant was just what she never knew she needed. Now I would have loved it at that point if she could have just settle din, brought about their happy ending and that was it a done deal, I could bask in the delight of all things being fabulous but life isn’t like that and neither does it make for enjoyable reading, nope the author threw a little angst into the plot and I was hooked again. This time I just wanted to see if Stone to manage to wrangle Emily into staying put, her propensity for slipping thorough his fingers was not only futile but dang he must have been exhausted! There was enough chemistry between the pair of them to see them well into their old age but they had to get there first, they had to find their way to a future that her rules seemed determine to rule out! Would they make it work? Well I think you ought to give them a try, you might just be surprised at where they take you. With its snappy pace and fabulously descriptive prose, I think this was the perfect mix for the genre, it made me laugh and smile in equal measure and had me fanning my face on more than one occasion. Delightfully romantic, thorough recommended.
I volunteered to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book is so well done. Not only are the main characters Emily and Stone so richly portrayed but, the secondary characters are given the same consideration and respect to make this book everything that you want a romance novel to be. The dialogue and dynamic between all the characters are realistic while being insightful.
I kept rooting for Emily to find her inner strength to be comfortable with who she is and was extremely excited for her when confronted with Rick for the last time. The closure is perfect. Stone's acceptance of his shortcomings toward his sister, Sarah, his mother, Fortune, the town his father loved and Emily is touching even when it hits him over the head in sudden realization.
Molly is a the sibling counterpart to Emily. She acts before thinking which, is so not Emily, who needs to plan everything out. To witness Molly's struggles with her young daughter, Sierra and husband Dylan are heart wrenching. The courage that Molly finally gathers to admit her mistakes and claim the family she left behind brought tears to my eyes.
And, way to go Grammy! Finding love at 80!
An excellent read and I highly recommend this book.
Breaking Emily’s Rules is the first book in Heatherly Bell’s new Fortune Valley series and what a start it is. After a broken engagement, Emily has imposed a series of rules to guide her life and now she is all about playing it safe. That is, until she meets Stone Mcallister, who has her questioning not only her rules, but the value of playing it safe.
Stone and Emma are a great match and I loved how they didn’t immediately fall into bed with each other. Heatherly let the heat build between the two to the point where they were about to combust before they finally gave into their chemistry. This book is all about taking chances with both your life and your heart and how you are not really living unless you are willing to risk both.
This book had it all – warmth, humor and, of course, the swoon factor. Definitely worth a 5-star rating in my opinion.

Breaking Emily's Rules is the first in a mini series called Heroes of Fortune Valley. Emily is getting over a bad break-up from a cheating ex-fiance and Stone is in his hometown taking care of his late father's estate. When Emily decides she needs some change in her life, she decides to take pilot lessons. Stone just wants to sell his father's airport to a businessman, while fighting with his estranged sister about it. There is also a secondary story involving Emily's sister Molly and her estranged husband. This was a sweet and uplifting contemporary romance. I really enjoy stories that involve characters becoming better people and changing their lives for the better. Emily found something she loved to do and Stone just found love, love with Emily and with his sister. I really enjoyed reading this book, although I would have loved to read Molly's story separately. I'm looking forward to the next release in this series.
WOW! What a wonderful start to Heartherly Bell's new series, Heroes of Fortune Valley. I loved this book about Emily Parker, a klutzy girl with a whole list of rules, and Stone Mcallister, a man taking a leave from the Air Force so he can get his late father's affairs in order. These two are attracted to each other right away, but the first meeting ends in a bar fight and the second ends with hot coffee on Stone. I won't leave any spoilers, but this book will keep you glued to your kindle until the end. We also learn about Emily's sister, Molly. She is separated from her husband, Dylan and her baby girl, Sierra. Stone has a sister, Sara and they are barely speaking. One click your copy and learn all about Emily and Stone and their friends and family. You will not be disappointed. I can't wait to read Sara and Matt's story when it comes out.
This thoroughly enjoyable read has everything you hope to find in contemporary romance. A delightful storyline, characters you fall in love with, laugh out loud moments and a gorgeous ending.
Emily has some obstacles to overcome.....or should I say "rules to break", the inspiration of a namesake and the chance to accomplish something wonderful.
Stone is faced with settling his dad's estate, a sister, he no longer knows and a decision about his deployment.....and perhaps some rule breaking of his own.
Is it possible, with so many rules being broken, to build something lasting and magical? Let's hope so!!!
I gratefully received an ARC of Breaking Emily's Rules for an honest review.

Emily has rules for everything in her life but when she meets Stone those rules soon become hard to follow. After her engagement ends, Emily decides to do something very out of the norm for her....learn how to fly. Stone is a former Air Force pilot who is currently running his father's flight school. His plan is to sell the business and return to the Air Force but then he meets Emily. While teaching Emily to fly, she proposes some no-strings attached fun but even that comes with rules. Will one night be enough or will Emily and Stone both wind up breaking their own rules? Heatherly Bell wove a wonderful story of finding one's self, chasing one's dreams, and letting go of the rules and having fun!
Book one in a new series called Heroes of Fortune Valley and well worth reading .. Emily Parker is trying to get over a broken engagement and has decided to try and get her pilot's license, former Air Force pilot Stone Mcallister is teaching her . After one night together will they move on or will this lead to something more. The book also deals with Emily's sister, Molly who is separated from her husband, Dylan and their baby girl, Sierra and Stone’s sister Sara and they are barely on speaking terms. What Happens ? I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
A nice sweet romance with an awwww type ending. Emily has a broken heart and has rules to protect herself. One rule being no more men. What she didn't count on was meeting Air Force Sergeant Stone McAllister. But she has a problem that involves running away from him. Is there any way he can keep her from doing that? Will he take her up on her "new Emily" date? Is there chemistry between these 2? Will her rules get in the way? Will his need to move on be the end of them? Absolutely enjoyed this book. A little bit of humor, hotness and romance. Emily and Stone were perfect together. Loved watching them take their time realizing it. Give these 2 a chance, you won't regret it.
This is a wonderfully written small town romance read. Emily just broke off her engagement and she's now playing by a set of rules to guide her life.. but rules are made to be broken. Enter Stone Mcallister who she has an immediate attraction to. It was a slow build but I liked that they didn't just jump into bed with each other. The heat between was building and building and finally well things have to explode in the most delish way! Both of them have to take a chance with each other both have some hang ups. I really enjoyed this book and think you will too. Reviewed for Headtripping Books by Amy
This was a great contemporary romance. I enjoyed reading this light-hearted & slow-building romance between Emily and Stone with a HEA ending. You will almost get a whole other story reading about Emily's sister Molly and Dylan. Though it is not so much that it takes away from the main one. I would love to read more books from Heatherly Bell especially in this new series. I voluntarily read this ARC provided by the Author/Publisher and was not compensated to provide a positive review. This has 2 storylines, one is sad but hopeful, the other is hopeful and amusing. Emily is an uptight and an entertaining klutz. Stone is closed off to people, especially women, but nice guy underneath it all. The two of them dancing around each other makes for some really funny stuff. On the other hand Molly situation is far from funny. They all have family issues that made them the people they are. It's an interesting book that I enjoyed reading. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author.
I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review.
Loved it. Emily was trying to go from being a good girl to being a bad girl after hiding out for months after walking in on her fiancée cheating with the maid. Her attempts are funny at times but one of the riskier things she does is gets her pilots license where she realizes Stone is her teacher. You will laugh at some of the things Emily does but you will also want to slap Stone for being such a jerk sometimes.
I loved this book so much!! It has so many funny, funny moments. Emily is a good girl and makes up all these rules to live by. Until she decided to find her inner wild woman. Stone has a ton of responsibilities, he can not take on one more thing. Until he meets Emily. There is also a great second story running through the book about Emily's sister. I can't wait for the next book in this series!!
Small town romance between polar opposites that's both sexy and sweet...another great read from Heatherly Bell. Emily is trying to change up her good girl ways, and Stone is definitely the guy to help her do it. I love the two background stories with each of their sisters and how that effects Emily and Stone, too. I look forward to more from Fortune Valley!
Wonderful love story with lots of emotion. Stone and Emily will make you laugh, cry and fall in love with their story. This book talks about love, forgiveness, family and putting yourself out there for the course of life to just take over. Easy, fast reading that I couldn't put it down.
An amazing story. The emotion throughput would grip me so much that I'd have to step away every now and then. Emily and Stone have great chemistry. Plus you meet Emily's sister Holly. I found myself intrigued with Holly and rooting for her. Ms. Bell really nailed it!
I recicved a free copy in exchange for an honest review. I love Heatherly and I love that I can depend on her for An emotional sexy read. I love these characters and the chemistry was off the charts. Another amazing read by Heatherly tthat I highly reccomend.
I usually like Heatherly Bell's books, but this one is a total miss for me. After putting this book aside in January because I just couldn't get into it, I forced myself to try again but coming back fresh did not help.
Emily is supposed to be pushing the ripe old age of 30 (oh the horror!) and has been engaged and out in the world, but she comes off more like she's a thirteen year old child. She isn't a "too stupid to live" heroine, but woooow she is teetering right on the borderline. Worse than being an airhead, she was a total doormat. If there was a word that described being a doormat's doormat, her picture would be next to it in the dictionary. Everyone runs roughshod over her and she allows it. I was praying that by 50% she'd have started to grow a spine, but instead she's still weak and pathetic. Yes she's still taking flying lessons, but she's lying to her father about it. You see, she's not allowed to make her own life decisions because (I kid you not) her dad is a "real American man" and a "real American man keeps his daughters safe!" Oookay then. I guess that American men who let their children make their own mistakes and decisions (such as joining the military) are unAmerican, but since he eats red meat, dislikes the vegan family in town, and lords over his family he's a true American. The entire family is a few sandwiches short of a picnic.
There was also a lot going on in this story. Molly's storyline held absolutely no interest for me but there she was, every few segments, acting like a child rather than a grown up and a mother. I had zero desire to see her make her way back into her daughter's life because she didn't deserve it and that little girl sure didn't deserve to have an unstable, immature whackjob in her life.
While this won't turn me off of Heatherly's books in the future, I'll be sure to wait until they go on sale to avoid spending five bucks on another royal clunker.
