David Burke is a mild manner something who tries to enjoy each day a bit more than the last. It dawned upon him at some point that life was racing him by and he wasn’t nearly as young as he used to be.
So now he spends his nights and lunch hours and any other free time he can putting down on paper all the stories that have collected up over a life time.
I would have given this book 5 stars if it wasn’t for how Burke ended the book. I know it will be a crossover and I’m fine with that. I planned on reading warlord for hire so that just made things more exciting… the thing that angers me is that I’m sick and tired of this Cara fiasco. Really Burke, lay off her man. How many times can one person go back to the shadow? How many times can one person be corrupt? How many times can a person listen to what’s obviously a voice that doesn’t have her best interests in mind? She went into the chrysalis to evolve to be a better person for Aden. She talked about how misago tortured her endlessly and killed her and brought her back and gave her enormous amounts of drugs that would kill a normal human while she tortured her… yet as soon as she wakes up she instantly listens to a voice that’s clearly trying to manipulate her? That’s so LAME. Truly you have enough material to make perfect villains than to continuously drag Cara into your plots. Can’t she simply be happy? Also can’t Aden and his bonds simply accept her? I think it’s rather cruel what they’re doing to her. She saved kenna and yet they still threw her away. What can she do to win a spot in their lives? Also what about Tess? Also why doesn’t he include eve in his family time and group fun? Aden sickens me. His bonds sickens me as well. She was only good enough for fun while no one was looking but that was the only love and cuddles and affection she got. That’s pretty disgusting and disappointing if you ask me. Isn’t she supposed to be one of his wives? Or does she not count or matter? Don’t be sloppy, you can fix these things. It’s easy.
All I can say is poor Cara and Tess. The author needs to figure out their status in the story. Cara has tried repeatedly and seems to be the series' most tragic character. I am caring less and less for Aden. Is it he can't learn or he won't learn?
Introduction: Greetings, fellow beings of HowlStrom, the icy realm where winter reigns supreme. It is I, Kiba Snowpaw, the alpha male Ice Wolf with the power of ice magic, who has ventured into the world of literature amidst our century-long winter. Today, I shall share my thoughts on "Prism Academy- Shadowfall" by David Burke, a tale that has resonated with the cold depths of my heart.
Basic Plot Summary: In this fifth installment of the Prism Academy series, Aden, our protagonist, finds himself surrounded by enemies, both from within and outside. The emergence of a new adversary signifies that it's time for Aden to shed his inhibitions and face the challenges head-on. With the looming threat of the shadow, Aden must rally his allies and strengthen his bonds to ensure victory. The fate of the shadow hangs in the balance, and the outcome remains uncertain.
Analysis/Evaluation: "Shadowfall" is a tale of resilience, bonds, and the internal and external battles one faces. The narrative is gripping, with a blend of science fiction and fantasy elements that keep the reader on the edge of their seat. The story's pace is relentless, much like the fierce blizzards of HowlStrom, pulling the reader into its vortex.
Characters: Aden, the central figure, is a character of depth and complexity. His journey, filled with trials and tribulations, mirrors the challenges we face in HowlStrom. However, the character of Cara has been a point of contention for many. Her continuous descent into the shadows and her repeated attempts at redemption have left readers divided. Tess's role in the story also remains ambiguous, leaving one to ponder her significance in Aden's life.
Structure: The book is structured in a manner that allows for a seamless flow of events. The transitions between scenes are smooth, and the narrative is cohesive. The author has skillfully interwoven various plot points, ensuring that the reader remains engaged throughout.
Impact: "Shadowfall" leaves a lasting impression on the reader. The story's themes of trust, betrayal, and redemption resonate deeply, much like the echoes of a howl in the vast expanse of HowlStrom.
Hook and Thesis: The book's hook lies in its intriguing premise and the challenges Aden faces. The thesis revolves around the idea of confronting one's inner demons and the external forces that threaten one's existence.
Praise and Critique: The tale is commendable for its intricate plot and well-developed characters. However, some readers have expressed dissatisfaction with the portrayal of certain characters, particularly Cara. The excessive emphasis on intimate scenes has also been a point of critique.
Evaluation: Overall, "Shadowfall" is a captivating read that offers a blend of action, drama, and emotion. While it has its flaws, the story's strengths overshadow its weaknesses.
Comparison: Compared to the previous installments in the Prism Academy series, "Shadowfall" stands out for its heightened stakes and intense character dynamics. The narrative has matured, reflecting the growth of its characters.
Conclusion: In the icy realm of HowlStrom, where challenges are a part of our existence, "Prism Academy- Shadowfall" serves as a reminder of the battles we face and the bonds that sustain us. It is a tale that will resonate with many, and I, Kiba Snowpaw, recommend it to all who seek a thrilling adventure.
May the frosty winds of HowlStrom guide you on your literary journey.
I like the story and all, but two major and one less-major irritant detracted from my enjoyment of it. 1. Too much sex. Yes, I know it's a harem book, but there were a LOT of very extended sex scenes, at a level of detail not useful to the story.
2. Whiny MC. A lot of occasions, but particularly after an unavoidable collateral damage event. Fortunately he got over it, but did his self-loathing/doubt really need to be in there that much?
2.5. How many times did he need to stand around letting the enemy get ready, while saying "get ready" to his people? I note at least two major occurrences where it was really obvious.
Otherwise, if you've read up to this point you know what to expect. There's one more coming with some more cross-over stuff from another of the author's series. I'm still on board, but I needed to vent.
So this is the end of this arc. Good wrap up. I might add a thanks to the author for bothering to end a series/arc as to many orphan series in the Bibliowild. Great book and good hero/MC. He is the great guy next door for all but his enemies. I am looking forward to what series this book leeds to as the is no prism Academy any more(?).
Another great book in a great series, most of the plot was satisfyingly resolved but some issues are still left open which lets me hope that this is not the last we see of Aden
I for.one can't wait.to see what happens next in this world!!! As always an exciting blend of science fiction and fantasy with some slice of life thrown into keep it interesting!!!
Damn, this was a good one! Well there all a good, but book five just kicked ass so much. I hope book six keeps up the momentum. Prism is one of my favorite super hero books, keep writing them Mr. Burke
A good entry in the series and a solid conclusion(?). I enjoyed the character growth and story development. Feels like an ending but could definitely open up to other storylines as well. Hope to see more.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fun and entertaining. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and engaging. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This book is definitely worth checking out.
I’m worried about how the disappearance of the light will impact humanity’s development moving forward and the removal of the old way of creating supers.
I’ve lost interest in the series. Too much too fast and keep adding more. At this point the side characters are place holders and only the new addition gets any real character.
