I've been writing as long as I can remember - I won my first book writing contest in first grade! Over the years, writing has become, for me, a way to praise God and see Him at work in my life.
Although I have a degree in Mass Communications from the University of MN, my real writing experience started when I penned the The Warren Report - a bi-monthly newsletter that detailed our ministry highlights.
Living in Russia meant I never lacked for great material - and those experiences naturally spilled out first into devotionals and magazine articles and finally into my first published story, "Measure of a Man," in the Tyndale/HeartQuest, Chance Encounters of the Heart anthology.
Susan and husbandI grew up in Wayzata, a suburb of Minneapolis, and became an avid camper from an early age. My favorite fir-lined spot is the north shore of Minnesota - it's where I met my husband, honeymooned and dreamed of living. The north woods easily became the foundation for my first series, The Deep Haven series.based on a little tourist town along the shores of Lake Superior. I have to admit - I'm terribly jealous of Mona, the heroine of my first full-length book, Happily Ever After, a Christy Award Finalist published in 2004 with Tyndale/Heartquest.
Our family moved home from the mission field in June 2004 -- and now we live in the beautiful town I'd always dreamed of! God has amazed me anew with His provision, and blessings -- and allowed me a season when I can write full time for Him.

“The truth I know is that God isn’t a fairy tale. And that He doesn’t make mistakes . And that my feelings, or fears, don’t change the fact of His love for me.”
I've liked some of this author's books better than others - and I think I like this one best of all. The characters were people I could root for, the plot compelling, the messages amazing, the romance *chef's kiss*.
Sometimes the characters this author writes start to blend together and I think "I've seen this person before" in how they act and think, but not the case in this book. The characters were very unique and I liked them.
I know everyone has different ingredients they like, and I liked that this one seemed toned down in the intensity while still being suspenseful, and the main characters were mature and grounded. I've already fallen in love with all the characters in the Minnesota Marshall family in this introduction and look forward to the rest of the series- I loved the brother relationships, the way Jonas just told Fraser what he needed to hear and the dynamics in how Creed and Fraser viewed each other and their relationship grew.

"A purpose is a good thing. But it can be an idol . God is not a purpose. He’s a person."
"We are never more loved than by our God."
I have major book hangover now and keep going back to reread parts of this one.

Okay so wow. I’m on a Susie May kick recently and ya know what? It might be best to space these books out. All that action and intrigue gets your heart racing and you lose sleep over these books. But dont space them out too long, or else you’ll end up lost in a universe where characters crossover and everyone knows everyone (except maybe you, the reader).
All that to say, I just got finished the Air Alaska series and started Fraser because it was free on Kindle and if I thought Air Alaska was a wild ride, this Minnesota Marshall’s series has proven more so.
I loved the faith content in here. Solid, rooted in truth faith displayed in very real and imperfect people.
— “But the good thing is that feelings do not define truth. God’s word defines truth. Don’t try to bend the truth to justify your feelings. Instead, stand on the truth you know.”
— “My dad says that the greatest enemy of hope is forgetting God’s promises.”
I’m not a fan of royalty tropes (I just don’t think anyone can write it authentically without coming off somewhat fairytale-ish). And I detest when the story is over but not really over (you know, gotta-read-book-2-to-find-the-answers-but sometimes turns into a mega saga) — it’s signature Susie May, though, so I knew what I was getting into.

I finished this book days ago but couldn't bring myself to mark as read because I didn't want it to be over.
I devoured it.
Loved it.
And want more.
Good news that this will be a 5 book series because I am here for it!
Susan may Warren has a unique flavor of Romantic suspense that I can't get enough of. Anyone familiar with her Montana Marshalls will find much the same in her Minnesota Marshalls, and at the same time notice that this series has a flavor all it's own.
It has those deep, multidimensional characters, fantastic romantic development, and the healthy dose of danger and intrigue that has you wondering what is going to happen next.
I loved Fraser's growth and seeing him work through his inner struggles as well as the external. He is a protector and a leader that puts others above himself,and I loved those qualities about him.
Pippa was a unique heroine that I really enjoyed she had her own wounds in her past, and I loved seeing her grow.
The banter and initial friction between Fraser and Pippa was so entertaining and I loved how their relationship felt natural in very interesting situations.
It was such a satisfying read and it left me eagerly awaiting more at the same time.
Love!

Fraser is an action packed adventure with a primary romantic attraction that develops between Pippa and Fraser, but also a side romance between Princess Imani and Creed, as they are running for their lives.
The author likes to incorporate characters from other series and earlier novels and does so in this book, yet I believe that readers could jump into this one and follow along nicely even if they have not read any of the stories with the connected characters.
I really enjoyed this novel and even though the scenarios that the fictional action heroes must fight through are usually over the top and not something we normal people endure, it felt realistic for the situations that Fraser and Pippa were in.
The attraction and romance developed in a very natural way for the characters, who both also had other emotional and physical hang-ups that they were dealing with. The faith thread was also woven into the story in a realistic way, as these two characters discussed things such as whether God was real, if God was done with them, and even the possibility that the characters were depending more on themselves than on God.
I’m looking forward to reading the future books in this series and getting to know the other Marshall siblings.

Susan May Warren just has a way with words that seem to keep me attuned to every word, feeling, action that is taking place in her books.
This book was riveting, gripping and so inspiring. I loved how the author wove profound truths of faith into the story through the lives of the characters. I pulled a lot of quotes. That's how inspiring it was. Inspiring and refreshing.

I told myself I was going to enjoy this first book in what has become my most anticipated series of 2023, nice and slow. You know, savor it like the mature, disciplined woman I am. As you can imagine that did not happen. I inhaled this book and loved every minute of the journey. It was everything I love about Susan May Warren’s romantic suspense.
Oh, and the journey Susan takes her readers on with this one! I turned pages well into the night. Fraser is such an excellent character—a leader, a man who lives on principle, always putting himself in harm’s way for the people he loves. I’m always going to love a protective hero. His inner struggle, and the truth Susan wove through his story was profound. Many highlights saved in my Kindle on this one. Bold, biblical truth that was refreshing to see.
Pippa had such depth and was a joy to get to know. Much like Fraser, she was principled, loyal and courageous. I love, LOVE the tie in with her origin (no spoilers here).
Fraser and Pippa’s banter was something to behold. There’s even a meet-cute…okay maybe not cute, per say, but it’s, ahem, electric IYKYK. I love the way they worked together, trusted one another.
I loved the other two POV’s told in this story, which is difficult to discuss without spoilers, but getting a little look into those two lives and brains makes me all the more excited for the continuation of this series. I can only imagine (and have haha) where we will go next in book two with Jonas.
Readers can expect heart-pounding action, suspense, twists and turns, the perfect romance, biblical truth, characters you will love and root for until the last page and appearances from many past characters. Fraser was an explosive beginning to the Minnesota Marshalls and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Really enjoyed listening to this one. The narrator gets 100%.
I don’t read a lot of romance suspense, but this book makes me want to change that. This had all the Swoony vibes I crave with the added level of suspense and chase. Of course I also appreciated the medium faith thread too!
I can’t wait for the other books in the series to come out.

Fraser by Susan May Warren jumps into the world of the Minnesota Marshalls. The story is populated with a number of characters who are familiar to readers of Susan May Warren's world. She keeps diving into characters that readers have seen their stories. It is a nice feeling. It is like returning to a family reunion. I would like to see how the Montana Marshalls and the Minnesota Marshalls are related. Anyways, the plot in Fraser is full of adventure while the hero and heroine are trying to rescue their clients and run from danger while fully fighting the growing emotions toward one another. Being the first book in this new series, Warren has kept to her constinant style of suspense and romance plaguing her characters. Fraser is definitely a novel that Warren fans have come to expect and she does deliver. It will keep the readers up past their bedtime as they want to find out the resolution to the encounters between Fraser and Pippa. I can't wait to add this book to my Warren bookshelf, which is turning into a couple of bookshelves with the number of stories that she has written. Readers will not be disappointed.

Fraser Marshall, the oldest son of the Minnesota Marshalls, has been a doer, a protector, until now. His last assignment with Jones, Inc. left his right hand severely weakened and with little feeling, making him a liability to the team until he recovers. He grumpily recuperates at his family's winery while his parents go to Europe to see his adopted brother Creed race. Then he receives a call from Creed that he is on the run with Imani, Princess of Lauchtenland, after she witnessed a murder in Geneva. Fraser sends them to where another brother is vacationing. When he can't reach the brother, he hops a plane to find Creed because that's what brothers do, even for ones they barely know.
Pippa Webster's year guarding the impulsive Imani has been anything but easy. As an American, she's been accustomed to her freedom and having Pippa for a bodyguard has sent Imani into rebellion and frequent escapes. When Pippa gets separated from Imani and Creed at a pub, she starts hunting the pair down, but she finds someone else ahead of her, Fraser. The two chase the young pair across Europe, but something is wrong when Imani identifies the murderer as Pippa's boss.
This was an exciting story with interesting characters who are struggling to find who they are when what they've known has been stripped from them. Relationships blossom, both romantic, fraternal, and friendly ones. They learn lessons about God's care when things go wrong.

As an American, she's been accustomed to her freedom and having Pippa for a bodyguard has sent Imani into rebellion and frequent escapes. The start to a brand new series, Fraser is the oldest of the Minnesota branch of the Marshall clan, he is struggling to make sense of his future after an injury and trying his best to trust. He is a man of action, trained to protect and serve, I loved his dedication to his mission despite his initial differences with Pippa.
There were was great character development over the course of the story, and I liked seeing Fraser and Pippa get to know each other and their relationship grow. The setting and characters may also be familiar to fans of Rachel Hauck, though this book could also be read as a standalone.
Overall, this was an exciting and entertaining read, filled with intrigue and danger, based in faith. Fraser and Pippa have entertaining banter, and I loved seeing how it changed in little ways over the course of the story. Action filled and laced with danger, this was a wonderful read that engages all the senses, I'm excited to see where the series goes!

Fraser by Susan May Warren offers an intense story of adventure, danger, and romance. I enjoyed Fraser and Pippa’s growing relationship as they traversed Switzerland and Italy in pursuit of Creed and Imani. Fraser and Pippa are well-matched in skills and personality. The danger accelerated their relationship a bit, but the occasional banter and romantic kisses felt perfectly timed. Between the suspense and romance, it was hard to put this novel down.
Fraser by Susan May Warren kickstarts The Minnesota Marshalls series. The novel borrows from Susan May Warren’s previous series and Rachel Hauck’s House of Blue series. It is not necessary to read the other books as Fraser works as a standalone. I found the ending satisfactory, but several situations were open-ended as this book leads directly into book two, Jonas. I’m eager to read the rest of the series. Four stars.

Thoughts:
So... The only reason I read the whole series was because I heard they were all really interconnected. I wanted to read the last book, but I didn't want to be confused and missing things the whole book. And I am glad that I read them. It was confusing, with all the characters, and references to previous book (Susan May Warren has a bunch of different series that are all connected) but still really, really good! There is romance, all clean of course, danger, excitement, princesses, bodyguards (a must), and a whole lot more. I think I understand how it all fit together, but not fully, which makes this the perfect series to re-read.
I know that I read these really fast so maybe next time I can slow done some, now that I know what happens, and catch everything I missed.
Favorite character, part, quote.
Characters: Creed, Hudson, and York (Yes, I know that he bearly shows up. He was actually in the book for only a few pages, but with that and the references... I know I like him. He loves the Lord.)

That one quote basically explains the whole confusion of all the Marshalls, what they do, and all the trouble they get into.

This book has everything: inspiration, non-stop action, a princess, a bodyguard and a swoonworthy hero! Fraser Marshall was wounded on his last op and is currently working for Jones Inc, but he is still having trouble accepting that he can’t do all the things he used to do as well as he used to do them. Then his younger brother Creed calls for his help. Creed is in Europe and happened to have been with a princess from Lauchtenland when she sees an assassination. So, Creed protects her and calls Fraser to come to the rescue. The action is fast-paced with plenty of red herrings and false trails and a love story simmering in the background. The plot is somewhat unbelievable, but the author made it seem realistic with all of the details about the kingdom and the monarchy there. The characters were all realistic, both heroic and original. I enjoyed getting to know Fraser and I am already looking forward to starting the next book in the Marshall series. This family is unbelievably blessed and talented with brains, brawn and faith!

Ah, a series set in my home state! (well, sort of – most of the action took place elsewhere…) Susan is one of my go-to authors, and once again she made me fall for the characters, Fraser in particular (but the slow uncoiling of the uptight “Pips” was good too). There was less internal conflict/resisting of desires which I appreciated. On the other hand, the plot seemed less compelling and more nebulous; we never do unravel the sinister plot, and Susan seems to have developed a fascination for tasers (one too many IMO). I know he’s going to have his own book, but younger brother Creed’s character could have been better developed. I wanted Fraser to learn to live with his injury and find new meaning in life (besides the girl), rather than the typical romance-novel resolution hinted at here. Also, the final scene (intended to set up the next book, no doubt) left a lot to be desired. Why four stars? Maybe it’s just me, but Susan’s more recent books seems to have less rigorous editing. I noticed quite a few typos, and MANY instances of dialogue without a “{name} said” after them, which often made me confused about who was speaking.

I am so glad to get back to Susan May Warren's books. So thankful that they are on KU now.
This was a more realistic story than most of her stories, not so say I didn't love them too. But it was nice to have one that was not so intense, as that is my preference.
It was great that this really involved two couples, Fraser with Pippa and Imani with Creed and showed the background on how they all met. The settings of both Italy and Switzerland in this book pulled me right in. But also I love that Lauchtenland from Rachel Hauck's books had such a prominent role.
I'm ready for the next in the series now!
Susan never fails to leave me with memorable quotes too:
“but I do know that the chief aim of darkness is to make God look worthless. To make faith seem worthless.” “ Faith is what holds us together.”
“But the good thing is that feelings do not define truth. God's word defines truth.
Don't try to bend the truth to justify your feelings. Instead stand on the truth you know.”

Susan May Warren never disappoints when it comes to contemporary suspense. Adventure, drama, action what more do you want?
A great start to a new series. Although I think the way these series are linking we may need a map to remind us where we have meet these characters before Ha!
I give 5 stars to Adam Gold for an excellent and engaging audio performance. You are quickly becoming a favourite narrator!
I will say that this story does cross the line a little with a few cuss words. Please don’t Susan I love reading your books and I have really come to rely on you as a trust worthy Christian author :)

I enjoyed reading the adventures of the Montana Marshalls, so I was thrilled to see that the series had another branch off with Fraser kicking off the Minnesota Marshalls. The series starts off with a bang, when Fraser gets caught up with Princess Imani and her bodyguard, Pippa. I thought that the story was well written, full of suspense and adventure. While there are characters from the first series, this can be enjoyed as a stand alone.
I look forward to seeing where this series goes!

Wow. Susan May Warren has done it again! She is able to write romantic suspense that is both heart wrenching and inspiring. I love her writing so much and I am very excited for this series. The first book was an international whirlwind full of familiar characters (this is a standalone but some of her past characters are back) and action-packed adventure! You will not want to miss this exciting new story that will keep you guessing and keep you reading to the end. The characters are relatable and flawed. The romance is realistic. The dialogue is superb. The faith aspects are beautifully written.
Definitely something you should be reading if you enjoy romantic suspense full of faith and action!

Another solid romantic suspense from Susan May Warren. The royal family aspect probably didn't grab me as much as some of her other books, but I liked the main characters. An enjoyable light read.

What an incredible start to Susan May Warren's new Minnesota Marshalls series! I am totally enthralled that the author's books/series are weaving together to incorporate old and new characters in the continued search for a global villain. If you've never read the author's books, that's ok - you'll still love the action, adventure, suspense, romance, and faith that align perfectly in these pages. But if you're a fan of the author, you'll scour her previous books to revisit the events alluded to in this book and appreciate how everything and everyone fits so nicely together.
Fraser, the oldest of the Minnesota Marshalls, is a former soldier now working with private security company but wounded from his last job and haunted by failure, worthlessness, and restlessness. Pippa is a capable and straight-laced secret service security detail from Lauchtenland, guarding Princess Imani. Meeting of Fraser's youngest brother Creed and Princess Imani sparks an international intrigue and race for survival - and this brings Fraser and Pippa into close proximity as they use their abundant skills to find and protect their loved ones. Fraser is a worthy Susan May Warren hero - formidable, capable, funny, tender, and loyal. Pippa is an excellent partner and counterpart to Fraser with her matching capability and strength. Seeing my other favorite characters like Ziggy, Roy, Ham, Jake, and Aria was the icing on the cake. I can't wait to get to know Jonas Marshall better in the next book and I'm holding out hope for a book about Winchester Marshall though he isn't technically part of the Minnesota Marshall family.

How sweet to have another new series by Susan May Warren! Now we get to meet the Minnesota Marshalls and all that’s happening with them.
I love when an author weaves into her stories characters from past book series. It’s like seeing old friends and catching up with how they’re doing.
In this book, we get to see some familiar members and then are introduced to some really interesting drama with a whole new group of people.
In this book, there is non-stop action, a bit of suspense, romance, drama, running for their lives, kidnapping attempts, shootings, pain, Oh, the pains!
I don’t think I could endure being tased as many times as Fraser was! WOW!
I feel so sorry for these characters and what the author puts them through. She does it all in a way that will keep you stuck to your chair, not wanting to put the book down!
Susan May Warren is a gifted writer. She has the most fantastic way of weaving stories together and drawing us in with all the vivid word pictures she paints. She has a beautiful way of speaking truth to our souls through her words, and she brings us God’s life lessons through her characters.
She is one of my favorite authors. Whatever Ms. Warren writes I’ll read, because I know I’ll be captivated and blessed in a way that is life-changing.
I highly recommend you pick up this new book. You just might end up like me, waiting on pins and needles for the next book!

If you're from Minnesota, which Fraser and Creed are, now is the time to say UFF-DA; just saying. And Princess Imani's personal bodyguard is tracking them down. And Pippa Butler takes her job very seriously; she's the type to taser you first and then ask questions.
Fraser is the first book in The Minnesota Marshalls series, and like most of Susan May Warren's books, it is part of something bigger. There is an undercurrent of danger with ties to Russia and rogue CIA operatives, and they've now turned their eyes on the Minnesota branch of the extended Marshall family (read the Montana Marshalls series for more of this tangled mess), specifically Fraser and Creed, and can I just say uff-da again, because this is a big international mess that they have landed in the middle of. And, of course, having to try to play the part of hero has made both Marshall men see the women who've managed to get caught in this major-to-do as something extra special. (Much to Pippa and Fraser's consternation because, hey, they both have people to protect, lives to save, jobs to do, etc.)
Overall anyone who has read any of Susan May Warren's recent books (or series) is sure to come across a familiar character or two (or three). And as Fraser has been working with Jones, Inc. yes familiar faces are definitely about to be called in for some help when things go from bad to worse.
Almost from the get-go, there is drama and ever-mounting suspense as Fraser and Pippa work to find out what's going on and to find Creed and Imani before the killer finds them. Were they just in the wrong place at the wrong time, or is something bigger going on? Until they can answer these questions none of them will be safe. I love how many familiar faces from her previous series are in this book. If you haven't read any of Susan May Warren's books before, you can still enjoy this book with its references to other books. It's like making a new friend who makes references to incidences in their past. You can still enjoy them and slowly learn more about who they were before you met them.
This made for a great after-a-long-day-at-work-escape with the only problem being I wanted to keep reading all night long, because who wouldn't want to know if they escape, and Pippa and Fraser can locate Creed and Imani? Okay, so maybe this isn't the best read before bed, but it grabbed my attention, and I just had to know what was going to happen next. There is nothing graphic to give you nightmares, but there is suspense and romance that combine in an intriguing balance. Overall I have no problem recommending this to others who love reading contemporary Romantic Suspense (a touch more of both than the Love Inspired Suspense books but nothing over the top).

“I… don’t know who I am. I can’t move my hand, and… I don’t know, I’m stuck.
“I just… I feel like my life is over. That everything I worked for is… dead. And with it is the guy I used to be. And I don’t know who this new guy is. All I know is… I think God is done with me.” There. He said it. The truth. Whether he’d screwed up, whether he was being punished or just benched… “My career is over. And that’s all I had. All I am.”
Another beat, and he could just see his parents, shaking their heads, disappointed. And not that he’d been the kind of man to need his parents’ smiles, but… Okay, he liked being the family superstar. Liked being the one his parents named in a sentence first. Fraser, our oldest, former SEAL, special ops warrior. Whatever.
“But we’ve also been praying for you. And the first thing you need to hear is that God is not done with you yet.”
His jaw tightened. “It feels that way.”
“I know. But the good thing is that feelings do not define truth. God’s word defines truth. Don’t try to bend the truth to justify your feelings. Instead, stand on the truth you know.” The truth he knew.
“I’m not sure what that is right now.”
“That truth has never, will never change, despite your feelings. God loves you. And no one, not even your parents, will love you as much as God does.”
“It doesn’t feel like love.”
“Feelings aren’t truth."
It’s just… what now? I’ve spent my entire life… doing something. And now…”
“And now you have to simply be.”
"This time-out God has given you is His way of showing you that you need Him more than you need a grand purpose."
“I don’t know how to be. I’ve always had a purpose.”
“Son. A purpose is a good thing. But it can be an idol. God is not a purpose. He’s a person. And maybe He’s saying, ‘I love you for who you are, not what you can do.’”
“I sort of want to be loved for what I do.”
“No, you don’t. Here’s the truth. If you ever thought you were enough, then you were making yourself, your abilities, an idol. And you will fail yourself.”
Right. He lifted his hand, looked at his bloody knuckles. “I think I already have.”
“Then maybe, right now, God is rescuing you from yourself. God isn’t done with you yet, Fraser. You just need to get out of your own way, stop looking for your glorious purpose, and lean into the God who loves you. And then you’ll truly learn the meaning of the verse that says ‘I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.’”
Faith is what holds us together. It’s our foundation when the world is shattering around us.

Oh my word, I have no idea how to even begin with this book. Fraser by Susan May Warren has blown me away! This book IS. SO. GOOD!!! I must admit that I am extremely behind in Warren’s backlog. I feel a little overwhelmed by how fast Warren is able to release stories. But I saw Fraser and said to myself, “You will read this series.” So, here I am, done with book 1. And what a ride. This book is engaging from page one. Very early on there is a moment on a hanging gondola — yeah, I was TERRIFIED. And the intensity just kept ratcheting up from that point forward. The characters are fantastic. At first, I was quite confused with all the name dropping and cameos — it made me feel a bit lost because I haven’t read too many of Warren’s books lately, so I didn’t know who people were or the events they were referencing. But once the story got to just Pippa and Fraser, Imani and Creed, it was smooth sailing and I had no problem with following the plot. Fraser is my absolute favorite character in this story and my heart hurt for him big time. What a hero! To be a true Alpha male and then to suddenly be sidelined with no sort of grand purpose must be excruciating. I love the message Warren weaves in regards to Fraser and his identity. So many of us get wrapped up in our identities that we make them our whole lives. Maybe, without being aware of it, we even turn these identities into idols. Fraser struggles with being sidelined because he loved being the Alpha, the man in control, the man who could always do. I mean who doesn’t dream of being super capable at something and then being loved for it? But once Fraser can’t do, he flails because what’s his purpose? And that is totally expected, but it’s in the not-capable moments where he realizes that he has become reliant on self and not on God. WHOA! I had to stop for a minute and really think about all the hats I wear. Do I make idols of my identities? Do I rely on my abilities and not on God? I love, love, love that this absolutely excellent story had me self-reflecting and turning to God.
There is actually so much more to be said about Fraser. I can’t do this book justice in just this one review. In fact, I’m not sure I’ve done anything in this review. But I do highly, highly recommend this well-written and intense Romantic Suspense. If you haven’t yet read it, do yourself a solid and purchase a copy today. You will be very happy you did!
