The Bloodstone imprisoned Sol. They want the power behind her birthmark. She wants to stop them from attaining their dark gifts.
As she fights to free herself, she discovers a magic she never wanted. Each day it whispers broken promises in her ears. Promises that make her question her people, the Bloodstone, and the fractured bond she shares with her husband.
For one question rises above the rest. Is she Kyanite or Bloodstone?
The answer may lead her down a path she never wants to flee. Or it may write her Fate in the sands, leaving her no choice but to escape.
Author Captive is an enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance with plenty of tension and steam. It’s suitable for 18+. It’s the second in a series.
LiAnne Kay lives in Northern Indiana with her husband, six children, and five cats. She’s a plant mom, a part time ninja, and a black belt. (Actually, only one of those is true.)
LiAnne Kay has been writing since she was a child. In her free time, she enjoys long, scenic hikes, snow, (yes, snow!) photography, coffee, and anything Pride and Prejudice.
I’ve been waiting months for this book to be released so I’m disappointed that I feel as I do.
I feel as though there could have been a lot more editing, the story didn’t flow so well and I felt as though the sentences were short and abrupt, we were being told everything even though the story was in first person.
There wasn’t any character development and the story only really picked up in the last few chapters.
It was fine. It had the same issues as the first one. Despite literally everything else, the FMC couldn’t stop herself from obsessing over the MMC having sex with her. Her whole narrative was very much how she can fit into his life and his world and when she is literally suffering, he just didn’t care or do anything. It was her fault she didn’t assimilate into the role he wanted her in. She gave up so much, but is supposed to be happy. Ugh it was so frustrating. The ending was interesting, but not enough for me to keep reading. I almost DNFed tbh.
Finishing this book was actual torture. First of all, if I ever have to read the word “bedded,” “bed,” or “bedding” again in the near future, I will have to pluck out my own eyes. Also, what a downgrade to go from Gabriel to Hector? Couldn’t we at least get an equally poetic name like Gabriel—wtf is Hector?
Sol was incredibly immature and annoying. She went from feeling betrayed (rightfully so) to going on and apologizing to everyone and then seducing Hector again 🤢 .Also, I didn’t get her cursing and killing spree—it would’ve been better to be a lot more descriptive in these scenes.
Pretty sure I won’t read the last book. It had so much potential, but honestly, the characters ruined it with their wishy-washy morals.
*Captive*, the second book by Lianne Key, picks up right where *Betrayer* left off, and I really appreciated that it didn’t waste any time getting back into the action. The continuation felt seamless, and I was drawn in right away. However, while I liked it, I have to say this book didn’t captivate me the way *Betrayer* did. Something about it didn’t resonate as strongly with me, and I didn’t feel as connected to the characters or the story this time around. It’s still a good read, but for me, it falls short of the first book. That said, I’m curious to see where the series goes from here!
DNF at 25%. FMC was all about revenge for the murder of her mom but hey the MMC is hot so even though he executed my friend and even though he keeps me tied up like a slave, I'll just forgive it all because I just can't help how sexy he is. OH FFS. This is not what we mean by enemies to lovers.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Genre: Fantasy Spice: 🥵 yes Series: The Cursed Bloodstone, book 2
Thoughts - ughhhhh yes!!!! This jumps straight in where book 1 ends and you can’t taste the hate Sol receives! There are so many secrets revealed it really keeps you on your toes for who’s motivated for what outcome. Special mention to the first bedding! I don’t know if I was more happy for Hector MMC or Sol MFC to have them finally give in. There are also some side characters that you want to succeed that meet their demise which I really enjoyed, gave me game of thrones vibes that no one is safe. Definitely recommend book 1, then book 2 because you know you’re going to need to know what happens!!!
Plot - with Hector revealed Sol must try and survive her new reality. She’s been through worse when she trained with the mercenary army. After a series of events she’s forced to keep company with the one person above all other she should hate, because she does hate him, right?
* Magic * World building * Cliffhanger * Barbarian MMC 🫠 * Determined MFC * Secrets and mystery * Forced proximity
“I don’t have everything I want.” “Yes, you do.” Sadness flares from his eyes and his tone as he speaks. “I don’t have a wife who’s happy to be by my side.”
2 generous stars If you are the author don't read this
I'm not going to click the spoiler box cause I'm gonna tell you right here that I am going to spoil this book. Don't want spoilers? Then don't read my next paragraph. Just scroll on by. If you want to read what happens in this story without the actual drag that this book is then good news you just have to continue reading because I hate myself enough to want to figure out the interesting bits of this story.
Spoilers:
Sad news, this story contains like no plot points that explain literally anything.
So what does this story contain? Well we start exactly where we left and Sol has just been imprisoned for attempting to murder Hector and she attempts to escape 1 time but don't worry she will spend all 350+ pages thinking about the fact that she can't stay and needs to leave especially once her Kyanite magic fades and she needs to go get rejuvenated. Oh and if you were not sick and tired of her complaining about wanting Hector to bed her, good news, she still spends an awful lot of time complaining until Hector finally has a change of heart and he fucks her! The smut scenes are not good. They are even oddly time and just feel awkward. I know you're going to say but she was a prisoner. Yeah she doesn't stay that way for long. Remember the women and children that were sent into the mountains to protect them because the Malachite tribe attacked them? Well, the Malachite tribe found them in the mountains and slaughtered them. Sol saves Praxus's baby and fights against the Malachites and suddenly she is no longer a prisoner and everything is back to normal. Sol still spends the whole book holding her prejudices against the Bloodstone tribe and that never changes despite the fact that the Malachite tribe attacks the Bloodstones at least one more time. What else did we learn? Hold onto your britches but Sol's mother who died, yeah that wasn't her mommy. Cuz her mommy is a Bloodstone! Through an old crone that they pick up in the mountains, her jar of spells, a book of spells, the marital tattoo, and the fact that Sol healed someone while in Bloodstone territory they are able to give magic back to the Bloodstone! Don't worry Sol is mortified and hates it. Sol has also spent too much Kyanite energy healing people so she needs rejuvenated but she can't do that because that's deep in Kyanite territory and even though she now loves Hector so much and loves fucking him so much it would mean leaving him and she knows she would never come back because they are an abomination.
Do you know what's weird? All tribes have magic that can be used to kill other people except maybe the Kyanites. Past that every tribe has the same shitbags and shit situations. Every tribe takes slaves, has husbands that beat their wives, mistreat people but somehow Sol believes so deep in her heart that the Bloodstones are the problem because that is what she has been taught to believe. Even though she has seen that they all aren't terrible people.
Also I'm just going to call it and say that Sol has 0 problems with her Bloodstone magic. Sure, the first time she accidently murdered a bunch of Malachite attackers wasn't exactly her fault. But then she would say "I curse XYZ people, person, whatever" and the curse would happen and a couple times an innocent bystander was the cost of her using her magic. She could've stopped herself and sought out help to make sure that she didn't use her magic like that but no. She takes 0 accountability for her actions and her desire to murder is very high.
TLDR: Sol remains prejudiced even though the Bloodstone are no different from other tribes. Hector eventually beds her and they do it multiple times. Sol's mommy is not her mommy and her real mommy is a Bloodstone. Bloodstones are able to get their magic back. Hector wants to rule all of Tarrobane but not in a tyrant way but as a way to bring peace. Everly has magic which is to time travel. She sends Sol back in time because she needs to rejuvenate and honestly I still don't understand why she had to go back in time.
Catch me on book 3's review if you are plot curious like I am but don't hate yourself as much as I hate myself and want to find out what happens cause I will post a TLDR there too.
This is slow burn. Book 2 FMC focussed on survival, unravelling consequences & what does revenge look like now - with a relationship aspect now that has no lies in the way.
Book 1 FMC focussed on revenge & in a forced relationship made of many lies - on both sides.
Lianne Kay - Thoroughly enjoyable book 2 you have obliterated me!
This certainly will be vibe and feels review as I dont want to reveal too much. But i can tell you when the book dropped this morning I had to finish it!
Even though Sol & Hector are not starting in a strong position together in book 2 (due to knife or two getting in the way) the Author really takes the opportunity to flesh out their relationship through difficulties and mistrust proving underneath it all there is something stronger than what they are facing.
I absolutely love how Hector is confident, beautiful and completely in control - yet he fell first - this continues to be very attractive. He does clearly darkly love Sol and you will see what that means. Very Possessive actions are made.
This author wasnt afraid to make Sol dark, snarky & very reactive.
Sol I think has been greatly misunderstood, not sweet not meek and easily likeable at first - She is product of lies and manipulation, past trauma & a lack of positive socialisation.
The juxtaposition between Hector and Sols whilst both unstable lives.... he had greater support network to be something else where Sol's was very limited to be anything but the weapon of others.
I am enjoying that Sol is perfectly flawed but determined for answers - truths and open to love and being loved..... well she is trying to believe in redemption for herself - Kassandra in book 1 was true friend I think almost made Sol believe in a change for a better Sol.
Genuine effort with found family had been a real pleasure even with direness of brutal unstable world they live in - see them in humour and jest - has been great to page turn on these moments.
The found family is impeccable these beautiful friendships, between all barbarians is solid you feel like your part of this inner team Aston, Gray, Hero, Luc, Leah, Cenric and Praxis. Plus Everly & Quinn i love those two ( i have theory on Quinn but im waiting for next book).
& I sure love Luc - Since the first book this difficult and unstoppable powerkeg of character with alot tragedy surrounding - he's still hotly intriguing .
⚔️New Adult Spicy Dark Fantasy ⚔️Strong Female Lead ⚔️Spicyas&on page ⚔️Barbarians ⚔️More secrets ⚔️More twists ⚔️More clues on Sols Hidden identity ⚔️You be satisfied where the HFN gets too these too are hot for each other. ⚔️Escape attempts ⚔️Found Familyreally gives sanctuary for Sol
DNF'ing at 53%. There's too much push and pull. The story will make progress and take a step forward then get yanked two steps back. The heroine has a constant inner dialogue going that one minute talks about how much she likes/cares for the Bloodstone people she is with and then the next she's planning her escape. Plus, she uses magic for the Bloodstone people and doesn't want anything to happen to them, yet it's such a terrible notion that magic be returned to them so they can protect themselves?! It just doesn't make sense. When I started to feel the frustration a little too much, I came here to read other reviews to see if it would be worth trying to hang on and finish, but given the reviews I've read, it just doesn't seem worth it. Not to mention.......and this is a spoiler so do not continue to read more if you care... ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ In one review I read that at the end of this book, the heroine goes BACK IN TIME. You mean to tell me that the author goes to that extreme to revert the progress of the story?! That's just not going to work for me. Alas, I guess I was just not meant to see the MMC and FMC get together, but in all fairness, after as much time as I've put into the first book and this one, it's a shame that the author thought it wasn't a good idea to have them together yet anyway.
Im as frustrated as I was with the last book! lianna kay must know what she is doing because ive preorderd the last book. I must know how this story ends!
I still feel there is a lot of plot holes, similar to the last book. The ending always seems to be the thing that pikes me!
I would give this a 3.5. I have rounded down simply because I am so annoyed that I have to wait months to find out how this ends. Plus I had frustrations with the last book that i hopes would turn around with this one and seems to be the exact same.

Im glad Hector and Sol finally got together. But even that was a source of frustration- one minute it wAs all I hate you then . Not. I loved the side of Everley we got to see- i would’ve been really interested in their story. It is an interesting story overall, with the waring tribes, the magic etc but there just doesn’t seem to be depth to each of the books. Yet again it feels like I blinked, the second book was read, and now im waiting for the third. Nothing really major has happened here bar than Sol going back in time at the end. Book 1 and 2 could have been one book to make it more interesting . I think Im just reading because I want to know how the story ends now.
After I read Betrayer, book 1 in The Cursed Bloodstone series, I’m sure Lianne Kay got tired of my messages begging for a snippet of what comes next. 😬 Well, she delivered! 🙌🏼 Lianne Kay has done it again; entrapped me in a captivating story and left me hanging…in a good way. This fantasy series has magic & romance, war & desire. Lots of steam in book two, and I love that they are a married couple.
As a result of her actions at the end of book 1, Sol finds herself prisoner again…to her husband’s people. The Bloodstone still plan to use her to unlock their magic, but she’s determined to do whatever it takes to prevent that from happening. Unexpected encounters make her question her true identity. She may have to choose between what she needs and who she wants.
I love a good series that keeps you wanting to know what happens next, and The Cursed Bloodstone does just that. Definitely looking forward to book 3.
I really enjoyed the first book. This one held promise but didn't deliver. The story moves insanely rapidly yet there's the same constant issue/tension between Sol and Hector. It became so repetitive!
Sol's character also seemed to really shift. She went from badass vengeance mercenary-trained 20 yr old to desperately wanting to be a good wife and eventually mother?? In a situation that is not in any way settled wherein a character might normally shift their goals or desires. It's like the author couldn't help herself from ruining the FMC with vacillations between some weird barefoot and pregnant ideal and badass warrior magic wielder. This is not a judgment on the life choices/goals but rather how it didn't fit in the story properly at all.
If I never read the word "summit" again it'll be too soon. The search function claims it only appears 12 times in the book but it's the word used for nearly every one of Sol's orgasms. Not climax, peak, release, or even the word itself: orgasm!! It was so weird it made the already lackluster and tame sex scenes feel like it was a sex ed class being taught by someone who only knew about sex second-hand. Also, the first time they went all the way there was 0 foreplay or lead up and he magically pops his peen right in?? It was also sudden like they were talking and then I literally had to reread the last few sentences because all of a sudden It Was Finally Happening™️. Very odd.
I really tried to like this book, but it all felt like such a filler. Most details felt like an afterthought. It was starting to get interesting basically by the very end of the book and maybe the exciting bits here could have been added to the book before this and made into one better paced book. The jump from her being captive to 'my wife' felt sudden though somehow, the sex even more abrupt and anti-climactic after Sol thirsted for him so long. The transition just happened without them even communicating properly, they only started to really address things just before she time travelled. So much felt out of place idk man, I'm reading the third book in hopes that it will pick up on the ending's excitement but past selves and all that get complicated and I can't expect things to be clear. Here goes nothing..

I have mixed feelings about this story. It starts off with her keeping the same thoughts “I must not let them get their magic back” and she stays true to this course. The parts that get me are the ones where she begins to love Hector and want to see his people well but still not want to be Bloodstone. In battle or when she’s wrong, she’s all for using bloodstone magic, but soon after she is in disgust with herself. I’m glad to see their relationship progress, but in the next instance they take ten steps backwards. He keeps too many secrets while she continues to tell him the truth, even when she knows it may hurt him.
Captive is a continuation in The Cursed Bloodstone book series (book 2). It has a little more spice (🌶️🌶️🌶️) than the first book and, I would say, a lot more action, but no real twists or a-ha moments. The only negative thing I would say is that she used the word cotehardie WAY too many times (so many in fact that I groaned every time I saw or heard that word) and maybe I just noticed it because in the audiobook it was really noticeable. Other than that little annoyance, it was a fantastic read. If you can get past that, I would say it is definitely worth reading! I rate it at 4 1/2 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
DFN 38% Chapter 23, I just I can't. I love a stubborn girlie, but I can't read from the POV of a hypocrite who cannot see that the actions she despises so much aren't the same actions she is either planning or doing. I don't even hate that she is struggling with attempted regicide who happened to be her husband. But I can't read someone who actively is like "I know my people cursed your people but honestly you deserved it and if I can I'll kill everyone I hold personally responsible for the death of my mother BUT HOW DARE YOUR PEOPLE ATTACK MINE FOR CURSING YOU!" I wanna like you I do BUT DAMN I CAN'T

Ohh I love that Hector and Sol finally get together as a true married couple. Their bond grew so strong. I do not like Sol's holier than thou attitude. I understand she is the key to freeing the Bloodstone magic back to their people but I don't like how she condemns them all. Thinking it is too dangerous to have. It is their right and people to have their own unique gifts - given back to them. She's hurting Hector every time she bad mouths his race, which also turns out to be her own. She curses people left & right but still refuses to help give the people back their power. Its maddening.
I am bewildered! I enjoyed this second book as much as I enjoyed the first one. I really get into the skin of Sol, the character that narrates the story from her point of view. She is a fierce woman with her own flaws and judgments to deal with. But what I enjoyed most was the respect her husband bestowed upon her, whether in battle or inside their room. Of course, there are moments when you need to step on his toes. Something that I really wish to happen in the third book. From love to betrayal and back to love again!
I enjoyed this book a little bit more than the previous one, only because the characters were a little bit more consistent and fleshed out in this one. Both of the main characters had more depth and the events of the previous book made their interactions more interesting and filled with more layers. Which is something that was honestly missing from the previous book. Overall I enjoyed this one because it was a good take on an enemies to lovers. The ending though I have some issues with but I'll talk about them in the next book cause it starts up right where this one ended.
4.05/5 She's an amateur writer, from what I can see BUT she has a potential❤️ Her storyline was AMAZING but there were some plot holes (that made me think that maybe she is still new to writing as her writing style in general is good but the flow of the story isn't that special). I've said it in my previous review of the previous book: her world building is great. It's a breath of fresh air and I'm here for it (☆▽☆)
Not a true “I really liked it” but it was pretty close. I’m chugging happily along in this series! I’m in the middle of the final book and came back to write this quickly.
The “bed me” demand/desire on repeat got old to be honest, even if it does serve a purpose in strengthening their magical bond. I’m glad we got to see softer moments from Hector. And I have to say, I didn’t expect the end of the book to go where it went, ha!
The first book I really liked and couldn't wait to read the this one. I wasnt a fan of the chacters voice while reading both books . This one sadly I had to push through it. Unfornately, I felt that the book had gone to stand still and I had push through a few more chapters to see if anything would change . It didnt seem to change any in story. I got through half way of the book and just couldn't finish it.
It's much better than the first one. I found the writing and plot to be much more concise than the first book. It's still a little bit like a video game, where characters did things just to progress the plot. The progression of the plot happened in odd time frames.
The premise of the second book was really good, and flowed well from the first.
I liked this a lot more than the first book however I’m not sure how I feel about that ending?! Also would love more world building but that’s just preference. MMC and FMC are cute but not one of my fav book couples. Still a fun read though. Looking forward to book 3 but kinda scared for whatever’s next…
