I've always had a soft spot for a military man and Beau shattered my heart into a million little pieces. Though I couldn't imagine the terrors of war that invaded his dreams, his anxiety and fear truly resonated with me. Perhaps even more significant than the romance, this story shed light on the importance of mental health, finding support when needed and opening up to others while expressing vulnerability. As the author addressed these issues with sensitivity, my heart broke for Beau as it twisted into a whirlwind of emotions.
Celine and Beau complemented each other perfectly with a genuine, natural ease between them. Celine achieved fame and fortune, succeeding in reaching her dreams, but she was always felt as if something was missing. She and Beau were like puzzle pieces, completing each other when they came together but lost on their own. Steamy scenes were filled with fire and ice, deep emotions and conflicted feelings exploding under the surface. Thoughts and fears were expressed without words, actions saying so much more than words possibly could.
While this book can be read on its own, starting from the beginning of the series adds so much more. I loved how Coach Scotch cared for his players and how all of Beau's teammates showed up for him when he needed it most. I also loved the dynamics within the Turner family and the support and love Beau's family members extended to him. And, as always, the true star of this family was Gran, a 90-year-old spitfire who anchored them all.
The third act break was so heavy with emotions, tensions simmering and filled with anger, resentments and pain. Beau needed to break apart before he could start to heal and I wanted nothing more than for him to find the peace he was looking for. He had to learn to trust Celine and trust in himself, to find confidence in his decisions. I loved how Celine provided a calming presence to Beau through everything as she never gave up on what they meant to each other. And I loved watching Beau discover how worthy he was of love and how much love he truly had to offer.
The epilogue wrapped things up nicely but the bonus epilogue, one year later, was absolutely beautiful. Filled with unconditional love, a sense of peace and hope for the future, this made a difficult emotional journey undeniably worthwhile.

Oh, this one almost hurts. Okay, so it does. But only briefly. And believe me when I say that hard work goes into making happiness and lasting love a reality for Beau and Celine. They were once everything to each other, then nothing for years, and now? Now Beau has a chance at something with Celine again. What that something is, he’s not sure, because he’s got a lot of deal with, but something nonetheless.
But can you move forward when some of the past is strangling your present? Beau needs to figure things out, fast. Because he could destroy everything that matters to him if he doesn’t. And his issues are nothing to laugh at. Or even “issues”. They’re the reality for veterans, so be warned. PTSD is a thing here, and it’s accurately portrayed. From the anxiety and the misery to the stigma around seeking guidance or someone to talk to, this author isn’t shying away from the difficult stuff. And she handles it all wonderfully. Books like this one make me so happy because, while the stigma of mental health needs remains and this is sports romance, the work is being done to make us all a little less afraid of considering mental health just as important as physical health. And the awareness of PTSD makes this story even more fabulous and impactful. But I digress. Like, a lot.
Celine and Beau manage to find their way, of course. They navigate fears and worries and old hurts. They communicate more often than not. Celine is strong when Beau needs her to be, Beau is strong when Celine needs it, and together they’re the powerhouse they always knew they could be. Their journey from once was to maybe now to forever together is not one to miss. I promise!

I love a good second chance romance and Beau and Celine’s was extra sweet.
Celine is a big movie star now, living in LA but her heart is still in Tennessee. Beau is a veteran, a professional hockey player and still in love with Celine. They were each other’s first love.
Celine gets an opportunity to film in her home state which brings her home, back in the fold of the Turner family she grew up with. Beau’s family. It’s awkward at first, not sure how to approach each other but that sizzling chemistry is still there between them.
Beau is dealing with PTSD, which so many veterans return with and go untreated until something snaps. Beau is on edge, dealing with the nightmares of what he saw and experienced in Afghanistan. I liked that the author brought in a real situation and gave it a spotlight. It gives the reader a look into what a person goes through with PTSD. The struggles they face and the loved ones that feel hopeless to help. Beau was lucky to have his teammates, family and Celine to help him get the help he needed.
This was a pretty quick read that packed a punch. I’m enjoying this series and can’t wait to read the next book.

5 Star Review of Hero’s Risk (Tennessee Thunderbolts #5) by Gina Azzi
Oh my, what a wonderfully emotional addition Hero’s Risk was to the Tennessee Thunderbolts series. This is Beau Turner and Celine Hernandez second chance at love story and it was one that moved me to tears but left me smiling at the end of their story.
I was riveted to this story from the first chapter to the last. It was well written with characters whose story you cannot help but become invested in and was an entertaining, emotional read.
Beau and Celine have history and it was wonderful until she walked away and broke Beau's heart nearly a decade ago. He joined the Marines but after being honorably discharged is now a professional hockey player for the Tennessee Thunderbolts. However, he is also a veteran, dealing with the very real struggles of PTSD.
When Celine returns to town Beau feels the need to make peace with the past. Can he let down the walls he has built to protect himself and face the past. Can Celine and Beau finally communicate honestly with one another? Will they let the hurts of the past destroy their chance at happiness?
Beau’s PTSD is handled realistically, with respect, integrity and added an additional layer to the overall story; the anxiety, fear and struggles were real and palpable whilst reading. Their journey was like being on an emotional roller coaster but what a journey it was.
Hero’s Risk is a raw, realistic story that was both heartbreaking and heartwarming.

I had a hard time with this book. I just wasn’t feeling these characters, their connection & just didn’t enjoy their story as much as some of the others within this series. I have had a harder time with this series of this author. It seems forced, the story doesn’t flow like it should.

An Unforgettable Second Chance Love Story!
I literally could not put this book down and finished it in one sitting! Hero’s Risk is a second chance romance that takes you on an emotional journey. Beau is a goalie for the Tennessee Thunderbolts hockey team and former military man who likes to keep to himself. His time in the military left him with deep scars and demons that were difficult for him to overcome and kept those struggles to himself. Celine is a Hollywood actress who left her hometown and her true love to pursue her dreams. Miscommunication is the Achilles heal to any relationship, especially when the couple is so young. This is what lead to this couple’s downfall all those years ago. You can tell that these two loved each other but needed to work together and trust one another for their relationship to stand a chance. There were many ups and downs and steamy moments. I loved the way his teammates rallied together to help him. I absolutely fell in love with these two characters. Gina Azzi delivered a beautiful and memorable story. I highly recommend this story, as well as the rest of the series. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the next couple. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review. Even though I received this for free, I have purchased the ebook copy of this book and the rest of the series for my Kindle.

After serving his country he returned home a changed man and has a career he enjoys playing hockey for the Thunderbolts and being there for his family. He thought he was adjusting to civilian life once again until Celine comes back into his life.
Celine left everyone and everything behind to pursue her dream of acting until her next project brings her home. She has never forgotten her first and only love and when the reunite the chemistry and connection between them is stronger than ever. The aftermath of everything that Beau has been through creates some turmoil as before he can plan his future he must make peace with this past.
The love that Beau and Celine feel for each other was never in doubt and all Celine wants is to be there for him but for a man who has always protected everyone else he needs to realize that accepting help is a strength and not a weakness.

I was at chapter 4 and was already a crying mess. I hate crying!!!
Beau.. Can we wrap that man in cotton and not let anything bad happen to him ever again? They have a past that is filled with young love and not communicating properly. But now after almost a decade things have changed and they're hoping it could be different this time.
But here's the thing : I can't get over the feeling that Celine did not deserve him. Don't get me wrong I like her just fine, but I can't shake the feeling she did not do her part for their HEA. But what matters the most is they managed to get to the other side and find peace and happiness in each other's arms.
My first read and 2023 and its a 4* and if this is any indication how the new year will be, I'm here for it.

My heart hurt for both Beau and Celine. But I loved that they got their second chance and Beau is able to get the help he needs with PTSD. I feel so much love around them, especially from Beau's family. I loved that they're don't feel weird having Celine back and took her in as if she never left. And it's what makes her realise how much she missed the Turners and Beau and wanted it again. I enjoyed their story a lot.

I think deep down in their hearts that there was no one else for them. Beau could never get over his one and only love, Celene. She was the same. They didn’t admit until she was back in their hometown to film a movie. She followed her dream of becoming an actress after high school. Beau had always thought that she didn’t want him as much as he did her and that she threw their relationship away. In her excitement of getting a role that made her career one can understand where Beau would believe that. He’s a scarred hero that couldn’t fully let go of his one true love.

While I can get on board now, I am not a believer that one knows the love of their after dating in middle school and high school. First, no one dates in middle school; you hang out, maybe walk to a near by diner after school and have your parents pick you up. And second, priorities and outlooks change from those years into adulthood.
The description says nine years ago Celine broke [his] heart and eight years ago stomped on it; she moved to Los Angeles after high school. This makes Beau 27 or 26. Bea, his sister and the youngest of five, is 23. By this timeline, all five kids (two are a set of twins) are just, at most, four years apart. Wow, that is as close together as biologically possible. In the first chapter it says Beau was 14 when his parents passed; Bea was nine. This means now, he is 28 (or 29). But he says its been eight years; he was not 20 when he finished high school. Now, at least 10 years post high school, the timeline is off.
"She made cupcakes for Brody's birthday party." He and Blake are twins. Would he not have had a party too? Or been celebrated at the same one?
"Pulling a plate and utensils from a cabinet..." Who puts utensils from a cabinet? They reside in a drawer.
When you are a public figure and you execute a negative action, publicly, how are there are no (professional) repercussions? This is unrealistic.

Emotional and heartwarming! With the fifth book in her always entertaining Tennessee Thunderbolts hockey series Gina Azzi delights her readers with a little more angsty of a character than we are typically used to from her. Beau comes back from the Marines a changed man after all he has seen and done while serving his country and seeing him begin to heal both from the love of family, friends and teammates as well as being reunited with the love of his life is really sweet as a backdrop to the sizzling romance occurring between him and Celine. Filled with heart, humor and happily ever afters!

Slightly bummed about this book. This had a lot of potential - there was a lot of story and context that could be added, a lot of depth to the characters and the storyline that was missed and would have been a great addition.

It’s all about second chances at love when it comes to Azzi’s fifth book in the Tennessee Thunderbolts Series with Hero’s Risk. This sports romance revolves around two characters who might seem to have it all on the outside, but yearn for something so much more and that is what ultimately brings them closer than ever.
For Beau Turner, achieving his childhood dream of playing in the NHL means everything to him. After being honorably discharged from the Marines, Beau worked hard to be able to play for the Tennessee Thunderbolts. It’s hockey that keeps him sane, even though he’s been having a hard time readjusting to civilian life. While in deployment, Beau’s life completely changed as he is no longer the person he used to be when he was in a relationship with Celine Hernandez. As childhood friends, she was there when his life turned upside down, becoming his everything in the process. Until Celine got the opportunity of a lifetime and moving away from the future he’d envisioned for them. I loved the chemistry between the characters, Beau is warm and protective when it comes to Celine and that’s clear from the very start. Azzi dives into the world PTSD and how it impacts people’s lives. We get to see their journey to their happily-ever-after and it’s full of ups and downs. Although Celine is a famous actress who should be used to being in the spotlight, she craves her roots and going back to where she grew up puts a lot into perspective. They both are able to lean on each other and the ending is sweet and worked for them really well. I would highly recommend checking out the book as well as the rest of the series!

Wow… I absolutely LOVED this book! I have been eagerly waiting for Beau’s book, and I was so in love with this couple. Beau and Celine were childhood sweethearts, and they knew they were the one for each other. But circumstances pulled them away from each other when Beau joined the military and Celine went to California to live her dream of being an actress. Even though distance separated them, Beau was ready to take the leap until Celine got the call of a lifetime.
Ten years later, Celine, who is now a A-list actress, is back in Knoxville making a movie, and Beau is still mad about what happened all those years ago. She just thinks that he stopped talking to her for no reason. Beau has a lot of his own scars from the military that he has never resolved. Okay, please hear me out why I decide to give this book 3 stars... I enjoy reading all previous books in the series so far and I've waited for Beau's book since I finished reading "Playboy's Reward" because second chance is my most favorite trope and Beau and Celine seemed to have a chemistry when they reunited in that book. So yes, with everything combined I have a high hope for it. But while I'm reading Beau and Celine's second chance, I feel disappointed in a lot of things that happen in this book.
First, I like Beau. He is a good man but he needs help with his mental health and he is so stubborn to do so.
Second, I find out that I don't like Celine because she is selfish. She hurt Beau in the past but when Beau's family tries to get them together, she just go with everything his family throws at them while she still haven't thought about how much hurt Beau've endured (roll my eyes.)
Third, Beau needs someone who loves him dearly and understand his baggage which (Thank God) Celine seems to finally achieve in the end but before that is another story.
And the last one, I do love Beau's family but I aren't impressed with their matchmaking skill in this book.
I don't think Celine and Beau should have their second chance at all. Too much misunderstanding and too much heartbreak so I can't feel their chemistry anymore and at some point I give up. Insanely emotional and heartfelt, Beau and Celine had me on the brink of tears a couple times but left me smiling in the end, and I loved every single up and down. In the fifth installment of the Tennessee Thunderbolts series, we find Beau dealing with a lot of feelings from both his severe PTSD from his time spent serving in Afghanistan and given that his ex and childhood/high school sweetheart is coming back to their hometown for a few months for work. Celine’s an actress that’s set to play what could be her biggest role yet in the place she grew up where so much of her heart still is but so is her long-lost love. Eight years prior, things abruptly ended between these two, but neither have ever gotten over the other. Now with Celine being back in town and still close with Beau’s family, they’re back in each other’s orbits, which doesn’t exactly go smoothly. Can they reconcile the past and get along all these years later, or will too much time apart and everything else Beau’s dealing with get in their way?
This story had me feeling all of the things, and the emotion literally jumps from these characters. Both Beau and Celine never got over each other, and it’s like you can feel their heartbreak. I’ve always thought that one of the saddest things is to watch love die, and that’s what these two did for so long. To say their past is difficult would be an understatement, but to see how hard their relationship has become and then to watch it develop again is riveting. I couldn’t get enough of their story, even when it didn’t seem like things would or ever could work out.
And the characters are beyond loveable. Like all of them. Though my favorite aside from either Beau or Celine would have to be Beau’s grandmother. She’s darling but assertive and all around cheeky. Loved her. Celine’s a sweetheart, too, and you can easily see how it would be hard for Beau to ever get over her. But I think my favorite is Beau. He’s a genuinely good guy that’s always done right by everyone, but now he’s reeling from all the horror he’s seen from when he was overseas and the state we find him in when this story begins is fragile but he’s trying so hard to hide it. There were moments that my heart hurt for him, and I love how his character is written.
This second-chance romance is absolutely gripping, and everything Beau and Celine go through to get their HEA make this a fast-paced must read. I adored this story and can’t wait to see what’s next for the Thunderbolts.

“Hero’s Risk” is an angsty and emotional second chance romance between hockey player Beau Turner and Hollywood starlet Celine Hernandez. I thought this book was really well written, I could see the chemistry between Beau and Celine from the start, but also the pain. These two have hurt each other in the past, but at the same time, they gravitate towards each other. Beau is definitely broody, but he’s dealing with a lot of trauma. I loved his protective streak. And Celine!!! I thought she was very down to earth despite her fame, and I loved that she wasn’t afraid to stand up for herself when she needed to. I would definitely recommend!!!

Oh, my poor heart! I love a sweet second-chance romance, and Beau and Celine filled this need! There are moments when you just want to swoon with how perfect these two are. Sweethearts from a young age, loving each other has never been their problem. Timing has been the enemy. These two deserve to find that happily ever after so badly. There are moments when you get to see into their past, to the fun-loving couple they were before careers and adulthood interfered and forced them to take very different paths. The support of a loving family helps bring them back together and I wanted to reach out and hug them when the times got tough. This is yet another heartwarming edition to the series and not to be missed!
The bright lights of Hollywood called Celine away and the battlefields of Afghanistan ended up claiming Beau. Many years later, when a new movie is being filmed in her hometown, Celine returns home hoping that she can reconnect with Beau. Even while he’s living out his first dream of an NHL goaltender. He has support of his family, and his team, but nothing will ever replace HER. Now, she’s back in town filming a movie. Is this his chance to make amends with Celine and get back his person or has the past broken him enough that even she can’t glue the pieces back together?
Celine went to pursue her acting dreams after high school. She left behind her small town, family, and her first love plus his family. Beau may have popped up a couple times after she left but once her big break came, she went for it. Her love for Beau never changed even though they weren’t together. He always held her heart. She’s now back in town filming a movie and visiting a family that was like her own. Beau might not be thrilled about it but she just wants some sense of normalcy. Can she get that with him or are their lives just too different to blend?
Beau was such a wonderfully broken man whose instinct was to protect anyone that he loved. It didn’t change whether it was his ex girlfriend, his family, or his team. His anxiety and PTSD plagues him all the time even when he tried to avoid it. I thought this was a great representation of someone who is ex-military and showing true/ raw emotions. Celine just wanted to help and be let in. (As a military spouse, I can say first hand, you just want to feel helpful in anyway to ease their burdens and pain from ptsd). You could tell how much they genuinely loved each other from any interaction. They broke their own hearts, and no one can put them back together except each other. I am loving this series and can’t wait for more! Bring on River!

Gina Azzi is killing it with this Tennessee Thunderbolts series and this second chance romance for Beau Turner and Celine Hernandez is everything.
** with Beau being a former Marine that did some tours in Afghanistan- his character does suffer from PTSD and those feelings, experiences and anxiety are all a part of his story- if this is sensitive subject matter for you then read with some caution.

I just knew that there was some unfinished business between Beau and Celine when these two interacted in Rookie's Regret - Beau's sister Bea and his teammate Cole's book. But the wait for these two was totally worth it. These high school sweethearts that parted ways reunite 10 years later and find that the hurt, time and distance didn't break the attraction or the torch that they each were holding. Beau has that good boy, small town, protector yet gentleman personality and while it is sometimes overshadowed by the emotional scars on his heart and mind after his time in the marines- it doesn't dim his swoon appeal in the slightest. Celine has this lightness to her personality and while she has achieved some fame in her years as an actress- at her core she still is that quiet life girl that craves home and family.
For the most part this story is pretty quick paced but not rushed. Celine and Beau seem to fall back into this easy and comfortable relationship. It's not overly angsty but it definitely has its moments where the drama, hurt and heartbreak takes center stage- though much of it is from insecurities and lack of communication between these two. Beau's thoughtfulness gave me little heart flutters and Celine stepping up for Beau when he needed her to had me beaming, especially after feeling so broken for Beau and the emotional turmoil he was enduring.
Now that Beau and Celine have rekindled their relationship- it's on to River! He's a bit of a mystery and I can't wait to see him unraveled next.

Beau's thoughtfulness gave me little heart flutters and Celine stepping up for Beau when he needed her to had me beaming, especially after feeling so broken for Beau and the emotional turmoil he was enduring.
Now that Beau and Celine have rekindled their relationship- it's on to River! He's a bit of a mystery and I can't wait to see him unraveled next.

This was a beautiful angsty read about finding second chances and dealing with trauma.
Hollywood star Celine Hernandez is back in her hometown. Her latest film is on location, so she came early to catch up with some old friends. What she did not expect was catching up with her old flame Beau Turner.
Beau is also back in town as the starting goalie for the Tennessee Thunderbolts, and he has yet to deal with the demons he has taken home from deployment. Celine being back also adds another layer of complication to his life.
I absolutely love the dynamic between Beau and Celine. Their dance -- literal and figurative -- around each other is so much fun to watch. Gina Azzi puts a lot of care into their second chance arc, especially with Beau's post-military issues.
I also adore the dynamic between these two and the rest of the Turner family and between Beau and his team. Azzi created a fictional community that a reader would love to be a part of.
This is the fifth installment of the Tennessee Thunderbolt series, but it can be read as a standalone. No offense to the first five books, though, but this reader is ready for the sixth one. Bring on the bad boy!

Hero’s Risk is an angsty, second chance romance. If you love lots of pining—for good reasons—along with a side of hockey romance, don’t miss the latest installment of Gina Azzi’s hockey series.
Beau and Celine have known each other since they were kids, and were each other’s first loves. But when Beau enlisted in the Marines and Celine got her big break in Hollywood, they went their separate ways. Eight years later, Beau plays hockey for his hometown Tennessee Thunderbolts and Celine returns to town to film a movie. But neither one has truly moved on. This book was a second chance romance that really worked well for me. I liked that their wasn’t any major incident between them, but their careers and circumstances got in the way. They both have regrets, and are sad that they aren’t together. Another complication is Beau’s PTSD as a result of his military service.
Celine and Beau have chemistry, and I’ve been rooting for them since they first appeared in Beau’s sister Bea’s book. A bonus is Beau’s connection to his teammates. Even as he struggles with his PTSD, they help him deal with his emotions and his relationship with Celine. Their unwavering support, along with their quips and banter, are the highlight of this book.
Hero’s Risk is another fantastic stand alone in the Tennessee Thunderbolts series. If you are a fan of second chance romance with angst and hockey too, Gina Azzi has created a story you’ll adore.

"Oh Gina, you just about broke me with this book. I have been looking forward to reading Beau’s story and it was everything I could have imagined it would be.
Make no mistake, Beau is broken. He has his wonderful family, his teammates and as the book progresses, his ex girlfriend Celine - they all have his back and want nothing but the best for him. Reading him navigate all the ups and downs that is now his life was heart wrenching at times. In all this Celine is his rock, even when his actions or words looked like he was trying to push her away.

Where to start. This was heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time. Watching Beau grow from the person he is in the beginning to the one he is at the end was an amazing part of this book. I didn’t like how easy it seemed for Celine and Beau to fall back into each other in the beginning but things are never as they seem either. I enjoyed watching these two grow to know the people they are today and see the differences to who they were as high school sweethearts.
The journey of this romance should come with a box of tissues because I could feel so many of the emotions that poured from the pages.
There were definitely things that I didn’t like, but they were more personal than about the book itself.

Having read the first three installments in this series i couldn't wait to dive back into it! As soon as i found out about this book i started looking forward to it. I picked it up and got right back into the Tennessee Thunderbolts world! I so enjoyed this story!
Beau and Celine's journey captured my attention right from the very get go! Once upon a time, Beau and Celine were each other's everything. Celine went for LA to become an actress and Beau went into the Marines. Years later, Celine is back in town to film a movie and Beau is a hockey player for the Tennessee Thunderbolts. Will they ignore the feelings that never disappeared? Or were they meant to be in each other's lives?
I really liked how Beau and Celine had history, the way they were brought back into each other's lives, and how quickly i was pulled into their story. I didn't know how they'd face the past, everything they'd been through in their lives, and of course, what their hearts felt. There was such a realness to Beau, what he went through, and his tackling of his PTSD that truly got to me. I loved the the caring ways and chemistry between Celine and Beau. These two and their story had me feeling so much with them from start to finish!
It was awesome being back in Tennessee at The Honeycomb and getting more of the Tennessee Thunderbolts crew!

If you love second chance romances look no further than Beau Turner and Celine Hernandez’s journey in Hero’s Risk ( Tennessee Thunderbolts #5). I was drawn in from the first few pages and there was no putting down until the final word was read and I’m sure I will be revisiting this couple time and time again. I went through every emotion as I joined them on their heartwarming journey, I was moved to tears but by the end I was smiling like a Cheshire Cat.
Celine and Beau were sweethearts but she broke his heart when she walked away nearly a decade ago, time has moved on for both of them and Beau after serving his country is now playing professional hockey for the Thunderbolts. On the face of it his life is perfect but what he hides well is the PTSD he struggles with on a regular basis.
Celine is now back in town and Beau is determined to make peace with the past but is he ready to let her back in his life and he is prepared to let the walls down that he built to protect himself…….

This was an emotional roller coaster and I’m so glad I joined the ride, I loved everything about this book, I adored the characters and I found myself cheering them on as the took a second chance but what made this a very special read was the way this author wasn’t afraid to raise the subject of PTSD and the anxiety and fears that Beau suffered with. Hero’s Risk is a beautifully written journey and the perfect addition to this wonderful series. Great job Ms Azzi.

This about tears your heart apart at times. Beau is going through so much pain and is not reaching out to get the help her needs. I loved the idea for therapy his coaches had, to get him to eventually realize he needs to talk to someone. The author did a good job with the PTSD part of the plot, it was realistic. Celine went after a career she wanted, but still wanted beau. She didn’t realize how much she missed home. Their journey was interesting; they both needed each other. I liked Beau’s family from the last book, but enjoyed them more in this one. You have to read this to see how they find their way back together, and work through the hard times. I highly recommend this highly emotional but sweet book. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
