Noah always wanted to help the community of Hyde Cove as an officer. He let his personal life take second place to protect the people and the town he loved since childhood. He thought he had it all under control until forced into a dangerous confrontation with Jay Kirk, who tried to gun him down.
Years after the Jay Kirk incident, three masked men show up on the town fair's opening night and give Noah an Surrender or everyone in Hyde Cove will die.
Using every resource and fighting a trio mysteriously connected to Jay Kirk, Noah takes on a wild night of massacre, grief, gun battles, and the overwhelming presence of death. Will Noah have what it takes to stand against these people set out to ruin Hyde Cove once and for all?
A fast-paced brutal story of revenge. When a couple of police officers come across a known criminal in the town they made a fatal mistake they won’t see coming for years to come. A town faces the wrath of a family’s scorn.
A brutal, thriller with elements of extreme horror sprinkled within. I really enjoyed this read. Pesavento really managed to pack a punch in 124 pages.
I LOVE A REVENGE STORY, I can't help it its the Scorpio in me 🦂 part police procedural part gore fest stabby stab kill kill this was an adrenaline fueled one sitting read, imagine The Bill (if you're from the UK) meshed with The Purge, yeah, I know right, you're ordering it as you read this right? This created a palpable atmosphere of desperation and tension, the constant threat of violence had me quite literally on the edge of my seat, Josephs writing expertly captures the terror and carnage you'd imagine, for a shorter novel the characters felt all too real, our protagonist Noah was easy to root for his story a heartbreaking one, I enjoyed that element and thought it added more depth and relatability to the story, the kills in this book are graphic and Joseph does not hold back, an arresting (see what I did there) brutal revenge story covered in blood and gore, highly recommend this to all of you!
Hyde Cove By: Joseph Pesavento Publisher: BookBaby Published Date: February 21, 2023 ASIN: B0BWKCLVT4 Page Count: 128 pages Triggers: gun violence, gore, masked attackers, revenge, grief, death, small-town terror

What Did I Just Walk Into? A small-town cop thriller and a slasher had a bloody little affair, then dropped the result right into a town fair with masked psychos and a whole lot of bad decisions.
Here’s What Slapped: This book gets moving fast and does not bother pretending it came here to be polite. You get masked killers, rising body count chaos, revenge-fueled mayhem, and a lead character who actually gives a damn about his town, which helps keep the story grounded while everything goes straight to hell. Noah is easy to root for because he is not just Generic Cop With Trauma. He feels tied to Hyde Cove in a way that makes the danger matter. The tension builds well, the action scenes hit hard, and the whole thing has that gritty, one-night-of-terror energy that makes it stupidly easy to keep flipping pages. Also, the house party sequence? Messy, brutal, and exactly the kind of scene horror readers eat up.
What Could’ve Been Better: Because it is so short, some parts feel like they could have used a little more room to breathe. The villains are creepy, but I would have loved a bit more depth there, and some of the emotional fallout could have landed even harder with a little extra page time. The story works as a fast, bloody sprint. I just wanted a touch more meat on the bones before the next bullet started flying.
Perfect for Readers Who Love: small-town horror, masked killer stories, revenge plots, police thrillers, fast-paced slashers, and books that feel like a late-night horror movie marathon in paperback form
As the small quiet town of Hyde Cove prepares for their annual street fair, lieutenant Noah is caught off guard when three masked individuals give him an ultimatum. Either step forward and surrender for leaving Jay Kirk for dead or be faced with a night of violence where innocent lives will be taken…
This novella is a bit of a police procedural mixed with horror and splattered with blood and gore. In 128 pages you’ll find a story of an officer with a heartbreaking past of choosing his career over love and also a dark tale of revenge. The antagonists of the story have a point to prove and they don’t hold back when it comes to leaving their mark. Readers beware, there are descriptions of graphic murder involving children and it’s pretty horrific. The author does not shy away from creating scenes of utter carnage. I really enjoyed the unhinged characters and their masks descriptions made them all the more terrifying. Officer Noah was a solid MC whose courage and compassion made for an interesting character to root for but there was a strange decision that was made that I couldn’t picture happening in a real life crisis. But overall, it still made for a pretty entertaining story that I devoured in a day.
This is the third book I’ve read by the author and I’ve yet to be disappointed. If you have yet to check out any of his work, Hyde Cove would be a good place to start. Although, I’d still highly recommend his short story collection titled Madman and his novel Death Cleanse, those are still my top faves!
Hyde Cove is a pulse-pounding chimera of a book, weaving together a tapestry of dark crime procedural, home invasion terror, and buckets of gore as an entire town is torn apart.
Pesavento continues to define his voice in the horror genre & this book is written with passion that leaks directly from the writer's veins. Brother Berserk, Brother Sight, and Brother Ecstatic unleash a night of absolute unrepentant Hell on the little town of Hyde Cove, and as the novella unfolds, you learn more about how the family's twisted history is connected to the town itself.
Tight prose, immersive storytelling, and once Pesavento stabs his pen into the hearts of readers, he has no intention of removing it until you're bled dry by the final page.
Loved this book. I am such a sucker for small town crime / police procedural -type stories. We are given an amazing MC and some really, really bad dudes. There was a particular event early on the book that made me realize very quickly that our antagonists weren't going to hold back, and that made the entire scenario feel so much more desperate as the plot unfurled. Can't wait to read more by Pesavento, this was a really great introduction to his work. He's definitely got the chops to set up tension and develop excellent characters.
Noah is a small-town detective, who, years ago, chased a young Jay Kirk out of town and off a bridge after Jay robbed a bank. Years later, three masked killers are back in town to get revenge.
A bloody, violent rampage of a novella, that felt like watching an exciting action movie! Scary bad guys, a strong, likable MC in Noah, unlikely buddies, a teenage party, axes, shotguns, bombs and fires.
A frolicking, badass thriller that kept me up too late last night turning pages.
What a massacre these townspeople endured! Not for the light hearted because this novel is brutally murderous! So much blood, gore, and pain that has been inflicted here. This is the 3rd novel of Pesavento's I've read and his growth is continuing to amaze me. Not my most favorite novel of his but there was a great twist in the end. All in all...long live the Kirk Name!
Think The Purge as a police procedural. The plot is fast-paced, the mask baddies are creepy and sinister, and the ending comes together with a very cool unlikely alliance. Very quick, enjoyable read and I’m hoping for more Noah cases in the future!
This book had me hooked from page one. Sat down and read it in just a couple of hours, which I never do. I had to keep going to see what happened next! This was my first from this author, but will definitely not be my last!
This was such a fun story. It's about a small town that gets attacked by three mysterious masked killers. No one was safe. This satisfied that itch of horror stories that have ridiculous kill scenes of characters you aren't attached to.
The storyline does have a little bit of meat to eat so you don't feel starved of character growth or a driven plot. Are these murders senseless or premeditated? You'll have to find out.
The main protagonist, who happens to be an officer of the town is a great character. I connected with him and actually cared about all his challenges during the chaos of the town. Race, revenge and rage are major themes in this. The author did a great job of having them in this story and not overtly hit you over the head with them. I appreciate that.
Overall, I figured out part of the reveal but the scene where everything happens was amazing. I really felt like I was there during the showdown.
I will continue to read more from this author. This is my first of his and he really impressed me.
I highly recommend this super fast paced read if you liked the movie The Strangers and the classic Friday the 13th.
This is a sadistic revenge story with some horror, blood and gore sprinkled on top and I loved it! Pesavento does a great job at keeping the reader engaged, entertained and on the edge of their seat.
This is my second Pesavento book and he does not disappoint.
I was left wanting more of his writing so I will definitely be reading anything he writes.
This was a great fast paced story with very credible villains. You can definitely feel their evil while you read. The characters in my opinion were very well developed. liust found another favorite author. My bookcase is going to need another attachment.
