I’ve been in love with Rian Walsh for as long as I can remember. He has held many titles over the years. He’s my brother’s best friend. One of the Bastards of Grove Hill—part of the Five Families.
He’s also responsible for every single time my heart has been broken.
I’m the good girl of our bunch of miscreants. I get good grades and I do what I’m told.
I only ever buck up to Rian and it’s a toxic cycle I crave. I love him and I hate him at the same time. I need the push and pull like a drug, but when the push and pull become one entity, how can I be expected to walk away from the one thing I’ve always wanted?
Him. It’s always been him.
Careless is the third book in the Bastards of Grove Hill series. The series starts with Reckless which follows Finn O'Reilly and Francine Gray. It's not necessary to start the series with Reckless but it will give added context to what happens in Careless. For a full list of content warnings, please visit the author’s website.

This book is a first from this author and I wanted to try it because of the tropes. Degradation? Sign me up. It was book 3 in a series.
I will be honest that reading it was a little confusing given then I didn’t read the first book so I didn’t know all the characters. But I only cared about the main characters so I wasn’t really losing out.
I liked Sorcha as an FMC, she seemed realistic with the conditions that she has and she was relatable. My heart went out for her because she didn’t need to be insecure, she was beautiful as she was.
Rian though, he was so assuring to Sorcha and he gives the irl boys a run for their lives. Maybe it’s because parts of me identified as Sorcha, I really loved the possessiveness Rian had for Sorcha.
Only reason why this is a 3 star is because I don’t really see it as a forbidden trope, I don’t get why Sorcha can’t like Rian just because he is her brother’s best friend. To me that isn’t off limits but that’s my personal opinion.
The story of Rian and Sorcha is full of ups and downs, heartbreak and heartache.
Rian is best friends with Sorcha's brother Finn, and part of the founding families of the Bastards Grove. He's been obsessively stalking and protecting Sorcha for many reasons but the main reason. She is his.
Sorcha has had a crush on Rian since he helped her up after being picked on and shoved to the ground. But because he's her brother's best friend, the pact the Bastards have, she thinks he looks at her as a "kid," and her body dysmorphia she hides that unobtainable desire deep.
The hardships and emotional pain both these characters struggle with is heartbreaking. I couldn't help but want to beat the ever loving snot out of Rian when he tries to push her away. But his brutish mannerisms, downright degrading attitude, and his undying protection and eventual devotion won my heart over. He's brutal and probably a psychopath but I absolutely love his character.
Check trigger and content warnings. Rian eliminates anyone who touches or is a danger to Sorcha and their relationship from the outside could be seen as controlling but definitely gives me Dom and Sub vibes with degradation and humiliation kinks as the primary. It's primal and mostly down and dirty and I'm here for it. Can't wait to see how their stories evolve.
This book is book two in the Bastards of Grove Hill Book two. This story follows Sorcha, the only daughter to ruthless Nigel O'Reilly Rian, her brothers best friend. This book, I thought, was even better than the first, and I thought it couldn't be matched... Damn I was wrong. ZEPPHORA can really suck you into this series. It is just that good of a series.
Book two follows:
Sorcha, who is not the only girl in her family but also Fins little sister. Her family doesn't understand her at times. She obsessed at times over keeping routines for the up keep on her body cause of her health condition. She thinks she will never find someone because she's on the thicker side. She's had a thing for Rian for years.
Rian is obsessed with his friend Fin's sister. He's been obsessed with her for years. He uses random hookups & other extra "dark" ways to handle not touching her. If Fin only knew the level, Rian went to keep guys away from his sister. This book has a lot of twist and turns, a lot of darkness with talks of touch her & d!e, talks bout death, pcos, not feeling comfortable in your own skin, sexual content and profanity. This book will put you on a journey into a world you don't wanna leave. This story was fire and can't wait to read book three.
Sorcha's story is everything.. but surprising & exciting is definitely on the top of the list... Her past intrigues us as readers .. as we read in the 1st book we know of some of the outcomes which makes book 2 even more interesting.. I love the forbidden romance, the touch her & unalive feeling... The forbidden love that she has for her brothers best friend... I can't wait to see what book 3 brings.
This book is perfect if you’re looking for a forbidden brothers best friend secret romance. Rian is the epitome of jealous possessive. My only issue is that I wish it had more action. This book mostly revolves around day to day life with sneaking around with someone you aren’t supposed to be with. Which, it’s nothing to do with this book, that type of plot it just not my favorite all the way around in general.
I’m not new to Zepphora’s world, so hold on tight as she takes you on an exhilarating ride.
Sorcha is in love with her brother Finn’s best friend Rian. Being on the curvier side, Sorcha knows that Rian sees her as his best friends little sister and nothing more.
Together they play a dangerous dance, the flirting, touches, whispers and words ignite something inside them both, both knowing they can’t deny what is happening between them.
But what Sorcha doesn’t know is that he has a dominant yet jealous and possessive personality when it comes to her solely because he doesn’t want anyone else to be around her except him.
Rian is an unapologetic asshole, he is the epitome of touch her and I’ll unalive you type of guy. Sorcha is strong and doesn’t take any of his bullshit, making the sexual tension between the two of them undeniable.
They circle around their feelings for each other, wrestling with their choices. They know they can’t be together, there relationship forbidden, because if they were found out, there would be consequences for the both of them.
They become careless, throwing caution to the wind, they give into temptation, into each other, leading to a decadent entanglement one of pure pleasure and raw passion, and it was more than they could have ever imagined.
And as they grow and develop in their relationship, Rian helps Sorcha explore her kinks, limits and boundaries, for she loves being degraded, the praise, pain and spanking thrills and excites her, taking her out of her comfort zone, taking her beyond expectations, she knows with Rian, she will never be the same again.
Rian knows more about Sorcha than she knows about herself, he is fiercely protective of her and ensures that she is safe at all times, being an O’Reilly, who they are, and what they do, she would be seen as collateral if they were to step out of line, and he will go to any lengths to make sure that doesn’t happen.
But in between it all, truths are shared, exposed, a sense of betrayal piercing Sorcha as she learns things, from her mother no less, that her family, isn’t her family and that she has a half-sister who is her friend. And in this moment choices are made to keep this secret, not only for herself but the sake of her sister. But regardless of the outcome and the circumstances of the situation her family love her as does Rian.
He knows she struggles with her body image, yet he loves everything about her and who she is as a person. It pains him when he hears her talking about herself in a negative way but when he’s with her, he makes her feel good and beautiful about herself, and if that pole dancing scene is anything to go by, she knows she’s in for a whole lot more.
The smut level was blazing hot, those smex scenes were nothing short of panty melting, wicked, and depraved, down right dirty and physically erotic. It had all the pleasure, pain and passion one would expect, none like Sorcha has not experienced before.
If that ending is anything to go by, it is definitely preparing us for what will unfold in book three!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

There are some trigger warnings attached to this book that you will need to check on the author's website. This is the story of Sorcha and Rian. She has been in love with him for as long as she can remember. Rian is her brothers best friend on of the Bastards Of Grove Hill. He is part of the Five Families. However she knows that he only sees her as his best friends little sister. However they both are very flirty, always touching and whispering words to each other. It is getting to the point where neither of them can deny what is happening between them. However she is totally unaware that Rian has this dominant and possessive side to him and it really gets to him to think about her being around anyone else except him. He is gosh a really butt when he wants to be but really gives off the touch her and you are in big trouble vibes. However you are going to really love him I feel like. Socha is a strong female character that is strong and doesn't take any of his crap. They certainly have a scorching hot chemistry between them that will keep you reading this book from beginning to end needing to know what was going to happen. I really loved reading this book and I need to go back and read the other's since this is my first time reading a book that Zepphora has written.
Sorcha has been infatuated with Rian, her brother's best friend since her late teens. He has feelings for her but refuses to act upon them. A jealous bad boy, he tries to keep men away from her, all the while indulging in meaningless sex to displace his frustrations.
This book was initially captivating, heavy intrigue, a psycho, possessive hero and a confident heroine. It combined forbidden brother's best friend with secret society and the violence and dealings of their underground. And as much as I tried to give this storyline a chance, in the end I found it frustrating.
More the half of the book reiterated ad infinium the main couple's not being able to be together because Rian was her brother's best friend. The words, the actions, the non-action put on repeat the "forbidden" and "we shouldn't" over and over. It felt like contrived conflict, no substantive arguments, plot themes that were obstacles other than "they shouldn't." No true compelling arguments to the contrary, and past 20% of the book, this stalwart theme not only hindered the story's progression, but also made the book more frustrating a read.
While their attraction was hot, their love affair, the spice was frustrating with its constant push pull and denial because Rian shouldn't touch his best friends sister. (Of course, they could do everything else but culminate the deed -- I guess to highlight the intensity.)
Rian's unhinged ways really came across inauthentically, as if gratuitous violence appealing to shock value rather than the situation warranting it, in an obvious attempt to show how crazy he was.
The word "blacklisted" not only was used incorrectly and without sensitivity, it was written more 20 times. We get it: Rian placed barriers to talking to Sorcha.
I also found the depiction of hypothyroidism under researched and simply an element for the heroine to have wrong with her. I can appreciate trying to have readers relate and body positivity, but there is more to the issue than relaxing and shocking the metabolism with a weekly cheat meal.
Overall, the elements of a great story were apparent -- I have enjoyed books by the author -- but the execution wasn't there this time.
The amount of excitement I had when this ARC popped up on my kindle was insane! 🥹🖤 This is the 2nd book in the Bastards of Grove Hill Series! This baby releases on 3/24! So let’s talk about it. 😉
*Blurb* I’ve been in love with Rian Walsh for as long as I can remember.
Alright so I KNEW I was gonna love Rian going into this because I loved him in Reckless. He was a complete asshole in Reckless, and although he was still an asshole he was definitely a hot one. 🥵 The sexual tension between Sorcha & Rian could be cut with a dang knife. When they finally got down and sweaty I was screaming for them!! Rian is definitely your touch her and unalive type of guy… 😉 I adored Sorcha to pieces! I love a strong and curvy FMC. Zepphora put so much thought into her character and I loved every bit of it. I really enjoyed all of the banter from Sorcha & Rian, they reminded me of my own relationship in that aspect! This book was entertaining, had me frustrated, happy, sad, and was spicy all in one!! Especially at the end. 🥵
I read Careless- book 2, before reading Reckless- book 1 & when I finished I immediately read Reckless. The timeline kinda threw me, in book 2 it ends around prom time, but in book 1 we pass prom & by the end it’s 18 months later. So book 2 ends on a cliffhanger & now after putting the pieces together & reading book 1- I can’t wait for the next book- Hopeless. I have so many questions regarding Rian & his baby. And where that leaves Sorcha. Rian is obsessed w/Sorcha, he’s been fighting & hiding his feelings for her for years. He’s a jealous, possessive, obsessive psycho. He’s made it so no guys date her, yet he’s w/different girls daily. I loved how strong Sorcha was, she was determined not to let him control her, & she didn’t bend for him. As much as these 2 were toxic at times, they were great together too. I just didn’t like the sneaking around they did, everyone knew about them except Finn. I also would’ve liked more insight into Rian’s thoughts about his baby w/Clara. It was mentioned at the beginning & never again. That whole plot is what has me dying for book 3. I can’t imagine how Sorcha is going to take the news & I feel my heart breaking for her already. She’s always loved Rian, & she’s always been the only woman for him, but this is huge- him having a baby w/someone else. Gahhh I really need book 3!!!
If you haven’t read the first book in the Bastards of Grove Hill series it’s ‘Reckless’ and it’s about Finn and Francine’s story. You should definitely read it, but it doesn’t have to be read before this book.
The Second book. Careless. Which this review is about , is about Finns Sister and her forbidden romance with Finns best friend! Rian and Sorchia !
Rian is of course gorgeous! Dark! Mysterious! Dangerous! He’s an asshole and a man whore but he’s Finn’s best friend and one of the Bastards of Grove Hill.
Sorchia is Finn’s little sister. She’s a curvy girl who struggles with PCOS as well as a Thyroid disorder. But she doesn’t let that stop her from being her best self! Her dad and big bro are very protective of her ! She has to be watched and protected at all times being the only girl in the family So who better to watch her and make sure she’s ok… big brothers best friend Rian.
This book gives all the best feels of : Bullying Praise ( Good Girl) Degradation (spit in mouth) Stalker Gang/brotherhood Touch her and you die (MINE) Forbidden love BDE (big d energy)
AND … it ends on a cliff hanger !!! Ahhhh !
I loved the spice in this book! I loved the story and twists that I did not see coming! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series !
This was my first read from Zepphora so I did not know what to expect. However, the blurb drew me in so I decided to give this one a shot. I really liked this story and am glad I decided to read it.
Careless is book 2 of the Grove Hill series. I did not read the first book and did feel I missed out on some elements of the story, especially the other secondary characters, however it did not take away from the main story plot of book 2. Readers are introduced to Rian and Sorchia, I believe they were mentioned in the book 1, so for fans of the series - they may already have the historical context revolving these two characters. This is a heated story about falling for her brother's best friend. It's filled with emotions, angst, drama, darkness, possession, some bullying moments, and a forbidden love - I was all for it. Rian is the typical tall, dark, handsome, and mysterious character who will stop at nothing to protect those he cares for. I loved the spice in this book and I did not see the twist at the end. Warning - cliffhanger!
Overall, this was a surprise and I will go back and read the first book of the series. If you're a fan of bully romance with hints of darkness and forbidden love, I highly recommend!
I first want to start this review by saying that I didn't know that this was the second book of a series.... (please see emoji with me smacking myself in the face.)
Although you don't really need to read the first book in order to understand these characters' story, it helps establish the book world. I needed more information about this book world just a tad because I didn't understand the main character and her family dynamic in the least, but with some time I did. So if decide to read this book first, that was my only complaint.
I did like these characters and their story a LOT, butttt....
I needed more BANTER. It almost felt too fast for me in a way. I wanted more angst and lead up before the first scene together. I wanted more time to get to know them and get to know Rain's obsession. I am always enchanted by a sexy stalker stalking from a far.
Don't get me wrong, I lovvvedd this main character, this leading man, and this steam, but I wanted more angst.
However, the steam is knee slappingly good and there was one scene that I had to read twice because it was soooooo damn good.
Overall, I very much enjoyed this book and am now on my way to read the first book in the series!
Make sure you read these in book order and pay attention to every word. So you don't miss anything. Again, this is another story of Zepphora's I sat up to read to the end. I can't get enough.
This man is hot, Rian, but he is Finn's best friend. Finns sister is Sorcha. These bands of brothers have their rules and relationships. Period. So what happens when you get put on Sorcha duty all the time? Well.....🖤🌶🔥
Sorcha has been hot for Rian since well, forever. Because of her insecurities about her mother leaving her when she was born and because of her weight. She has a hard time believing that Rian might like her. She's also worried her brother might end their friendship with Rian, and that won't be good. There are a lot of new side characters in this book as well. So folks pay attention. It's gonna get dicey. There are some serious twists and turns that blew my mind that I never saw coming.
I was floored.
I accidentally read book 3 before 2. Which can make everything quite confusing. So, with that being said. Make sure to read them in order. So, not to miss anything. I promise you won't want to.
This book is hot, spicy, and full of Alpha, possessive males who won't give up. So what do they do? Put a tracker on your car.
This is a new to me author and damn I absolutely fell in love with her depraved and dark writing.
Although I didn't read the first two books I will eventually find the time to get back to Finn's story but for now I want to say that Rian certainly had my ovaries in overdrive. He had claimed Sorcha since she was a child because they've all been friends since they were children. But for some reason she's forbidden to Rian and if Finn were to find out that Sorcha and Rian have feelings or each other and end up acting on their feelings then there could be repercussions.
But Rian is at the point where he just doesn't care anymore. To hell with what people think and Finn is too busy with his girl to even care what Sorcha is up to these days. Rian watches Sorcha like a hawk and nothing gets by him without him noticing. But hot damn their sex scenes are downright sexy. I love how rough he can be and Sorcha loves how he treats her too, she gets off on it.
The chemistry between them is off the charts and I can't wait to see where their romance will lead in the next book!
✨ARC Review✨ 🥵🥵🥵 Yes this is how I’m starting this review. I have no words. Holy hell this book is phenomenal. Rian is just, fucking everything, but I’m a sucker for the asshole and knew I was going to love him from the glimpses we got in Reckless. Sorcha is a strong curvy queen and together they are like ecstasy.
I love their story, a forbidden romance of brothers best friend where they are drawn to each other and cannot keep away. His love is possessive, obsessive and is the true definition of touch her and die (he proves this multiple times). This whole book is so incredibly entertaining and I loved their banter the whole way through.
The sex in this book was everything my little degraded heart could want and that last scene of them together had me needing to change my god damn panties. 🤌💋😏
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🪵Burn: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 🥵Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ ⚠️Triggers: murder, stalking, dub-con, breath play, spanking, praise, degradation, underaged drinking, drug use, negative body image, chronic illness, and spitting
This is book 2 in the Bastards of Grove Hill but it can be read as a stand-alone, it follows a different couple than the first book (Reckless) does. However, book 1 does add some insight to what happens in Careless as the story line matches up a bit time wise.
Zepphora did it again with another AMAZING book! I was not expecting the plot twists within this book.
This is a brothers best friend/secret romance book. Rian is the epitome of tall, dark, and broody. Obsessive/OTP and takes “touch her and 💀” to a whole new level. He is MORALLY BLACK. Sorcha is a curvy, bubbly personality, off limits FMC. She has been in love with Rian for as long as she can remember and even though he’s always there watching out for her he is also the cause of all her heartbreak.
This book is dark and has a laundry list of trigger warnings (full list can be found on Zepphora’s website).
This book does end on a cliffhanger to be finished in book 3!
Careless is book 2 in the Bastards of Grove Hill series by Zepphora. Careless follows a new couple on this dark, suspense-filled romance. This book is full of triggers.. please see author's site for more info.
This book is sexually explicit in nature intended for those over the age of eighteen. Read with caution.
This is my first book by Zepphora, and I am a new fan! I will be going back to read book 1, Reckless, and ALSO checking out other books by this author!

** Sorchia is Finn’s little sister... from book 1.
I really love the banter and sweetness relationship between Rian and Sorcha. It made me very happy that you included a plus size queen in your bastards of grove hill series.
This is the second book in this series but it can be read as a standalone. Sorchia has been crushing on her brother's best friend but he always goes for girls that are nothing like her. Rian is dark and twisty but cares when it comes to certain people. He is a jerk that every girl seems to want but he wants his best friend's sister. She is off limits so he has random hook-ups with girls who are the complete opposite of the girl he has always wanted.
Sorchia is a little on the heavier side because of her hypothyroidism. But she works her butt off to be as fit as she can. Rian finds her attractive; he actually obsessed with her. So once he makes it known how he feels he becomes possessive, jealous, and overprotective. It was hot. These two have a connection and I loved reading about it. Great read.
Go read reckless before reading this! This is book 2 in Bastards of Grove hill series.
This follows Finn’s sister Sorcha and best friend Rian. She’s loved him since she was little. Rian is definitely morally grey, a bit psychotic and at times makes you hate him a little bit.
Sorcha is a badass, even though she’s struggling through a lot, but she gives back as much as she can take. Which makes her a great match for Rian, she’s not going to bow down to him or break.
This book has a cliffhanger that I need answers for! Zepphora again has made a book that sucks you in and takes you through turmoil, family issues, forbidden romance and spits you out, leaving you wanting more!
Definitely read the trigger warnings and don’t blame the author for things you come across that you didn’t like because you decided to not read the warnings.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Zepphora is a new author to me. Careless is Book 2 in the Bastards of Grove Hill series. This book follows Sorcha & Rain's story.
Both Rian and Sorcha has been in love with each other since they were younger - actually Rian is obsessed with Sorcha. He is OTT protective over her - touch her and die way. The whole time they both were walking on egg shells in avoiding their attraction/feelings for each other. When they finally got together, they hide to hide their 'relationship' because of Finn (Sorcha's brother & Rian's best friend).
I usually love high school romance but the FMC in this book annoyed/frustrated me a little. It ends in a cliffhanger-ish.
Tropes: ▪️ Dark High School Romance ▪️ Brother's Best Friend ▪️ Forbidden Romance ▪️ Stalking ▪️ J/P MMC
I love the brothers best friend trope, and since this is the second book in The Bastards of Grove Hill series, I was excited to have more of Sorcha and Rian (introduced to readers in Reckless). Sorcha is a mid size queen! She is bubbly and raised among the bastards, so I love how she can easily navigate the morally gray men she’s surrounded by. I love the language surrounding her struggles with her body image, and the steps she takes for herself to overcome those issues. It’s a full “ yaaass queen” moment. Rian is such a grump but I can’t help but swoon over his bad boy ways and filthy mouth. The dual perspective read over intense situations was beautifully heartbreaking, but left me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend this for anyone who likes their books dark, romantic and spicy.
This is the second book in the Bastards of Grove Hill series and you definitely need to read these in order.
This story follows Rian and Sorcha. I absolutely love the brother's best friend trope and Zepphora does not disappoint. Sorcha is the only girl and is treated and protected. She has lots of personal issues that she is dealing with and the way that Rian helps her through them is perfection. Rian is an obsessive psycho and I loved every second of it! Who wouldn't love someone who will unalive anyone who looks at you sideways? The spice is off the charts and the story is *chef's kiss*
There is so much going on in this book and you have to pay attention to everything. This is not a singular storyline, so nothing is unimportant.
I am so happy I found the B@stards of Grove Hill and I cannot wait for more!
Rian and Sorcha oh my god! The couple I didn’t know I needed to read all about! I think this whole series is going to have me in a chokehold by the way I’m reading them, but each book has me obsessed. After reading the first book I wondered if Sorcha and Rian had some secret love affair that no one really knew about but this was so much more than that. While Rian seems overly protective and obsessed with Sorcha, he is really showing how much he loves her even if it means risking his friendship with her brother and ignoring the warnings from her dad. They both needed each other so much and seeing them come together and having this crazy whirlwind of a relationship form made it so hard to put the book down because I wanted to know what would happen next! I cannot wait to get more of their story!!
THIS. MAN. QUOTED. ANTHONY. FUKIN. BRIDGERTON. And Sorcha said DIDN’T EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE IT. Sorcha: if you are not going to appreciate Rian, by all means send him my way 😘 Rian is so much better than Finn and you cannot convince me otherwise.
The ending was a little weird like the story just ended? But not nearly as weird as the ending was for book 1, Reckless.
𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗟𝗟: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗖𝗘: 🌶️🌶️ 𝗛𝗘𝗔: semi-cliffhanger? 𝗧𝗬𝗣𝗘: Series 𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗦: Bastards of Grove Hill World #2 𝗔𝗨𝗗𝗜𝗢𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞: Duet narration

This was a quick read for me, the blurb was intriguing and this books is a standalone but past of an interwoven series. I love a best friends sibling trope and this was done well. The plots was east to follow with some drama, secret, suspense and steamy times.
Loved the concept of Sorcha, strong character who struggled with her body image and acceptance. It was really easy to relate to her with those issues and the unrequited love that she has for her brother’s best friend. Rian is your typical possessive alphahole who is completely obsessed with Sorcha but is unable to act on his feelings due to his friendship and family ties. There isn’t a cliffhanger ending per se but more of a to be continued.
4 stars as I felt there couldn’t have been better world building but I haven’t read book one so not sure if I’m missing some information from it. Looking forward to book 3
Who doesn’t love an mmc whose obsessed with his girl!
This next book in the Grove Hill series was nothing less of an exciting read. The moment this book hit my email I was on it. I devoured this read in a day and struggled to put it down to get my chores done.
I read book 1 of this series in preparation for this book and the cliffhanger in that book had me on the edge of my set for this one. This book was filled with plot twists and loveable characters.
I can’t lie I loved Rian in this book but at times I wanted to punch him for his choices. Sorcha was such a fun fmc to read, she was such a strong character that I really enjoyed seeing grow between these two books.
And with the ending of this book I can’t wait to read more,
