Zoe Kavanaugh never thought she’d have her chance at redemption, but she never stopped trying to find it.
For a witch, Zoe Kavanaugh was a sorry excuse for one. She should have died years ago. Instead, she became a dark witch, died only to be resurrected — not once, but twice — before being restored as a light witch by the first and most powerful Earthen witch to emerge in centuries.
After devoting her new life to help the Earthen and her friends end the chaos ruling the world’s supernatural community, she’s sent to Austria with the notorious Vlad Țepeș on an important fact-finding mission. Her job is simple: help Dracula interview a prisoner. She thinks the mystery of how a weak light witch can assist the most infamous and intimidating vampire the world has ever known and navigating her growing attraction to him are her biggest problems. But she should’ve known better. For Zoe, nothing is ever easy.
Conjuring words from the ether allows me to weed through all the pain in my past, so that I might find myself again.
My name is Sarah Doughty and I suffer from complex PTSD, depression, and debilitating anxiety as a result of long-term childhood trauma. And if I don’t have a migraine, I have a headache. Every. Single. Day. I've done my best to adapt.
My books are a way for me to escape my mind and experience a magical world. But deep down the problems my characters face are real. In many ways, they feel vivid and alive, which in turn helps me see the world in a better light.
I’ve shared them online for anyone who wants to read them — for free, to offer someone else hope, or the same, temporary escape as they did for me.
I haven't read any of Doughty's other Earthen Witch books, but that didn't matter as I fell into Zoe and Vlad's story. Previous characters were introduced in a way that was both natural and gave me an idea of their own stories, ultimately making me all the more intrigued to go back and read the previous books. Zoe's story was one of redemption and rebirth as a hero, and I really loved the way her character grew in both confidence and strength. Her transition into a "hybrid" was fascinating, although I won't go into the details for fear of spoilers, and I really enjoyed the use of astral projection. Vlad, her love interest, oozed sex appeal, and the (many) scenes they spent "together" were very hot. Definitely an 18+ read. Overall, would definitely recommend to paranormal romance lovers who enjoy a healthy dose of heat.
