The Centipede's Mate

Rate this book
Stranded.

After barely escaping with my life from a prison transport ship, I find myself stranded on an alien planet that looks devoid of any sentient lifeforms. I don't know what galaxy I'm in, let alone what planet. With my transport shuttle out of commission, I'm stuck on this desolate planet until further notice. And to top it off, I'm still handcuffed with no feasible way to defend myself against this planet's predators.

Until him.

Vedhral rescued me from certain death, but I'm afraid of him. Though humanoid up top, his lower body is shaped like... a centipede. And I hated bugs. But after navigating our language barrier, I find myself growing closer to him. He's kind and protects me from harm, but he keeps saying I'm his mate. Even though my heart is softening for this big bug, I can't stay on this planet with him...

Can I?

Warning: This book is a science-fiction alien romance. It contains swearing, violence, mature themes, and a humanoid centipede lover. Only recommended for readers aged 18 and over.

could have used more

So it’s a very good story. No real errors. Well done. Excellent editing. The only thing that keeps it from 5 stars is I would have loved a lot more within this book. More details more description more knowledge. Since there are more books coming I look forward to them but I would love to see an extra 50-60 pages for a more complete and detailed story

Sweet MMC but slightly annoying FMC

The FMC, Eden, lands on an unfamiliar planet in an escape pod after escaping from her prison ship while it was being attacked. The MMC rescues her and decides he wants her to be his mate.
There were plot points that didn’t add up such as the MMC being mad that another predator on the planet was trying to eat the FMC when he believed she was a vulnerable “youngling”. Like… that’s what predators eat. Anything that is weak, young, sick, or otherwise vulnerable is literally the staple of any predator’s diet. The second point that bothered me was how quickly they picked up one another’s languages when the MMC had never been exposed to another language and the FMC had no technology to assist and was frankly terribly at explaining words.
Yes I know these are nit picking points, but they took me out of the story.
I would have preferred more background on both MCs.
I liked that the MMC was consent oriented and protective in a good way. He was your average “I will die to protect my mate” powerful MMC. The FMC needed saving more than once because she got into risky situations frequently. She was straddling the line of “I’m independent and can take care of myself” and “I can’t actually take care of myself in this situation but I’m going to refuse help because I won’t be seen as reliant on anyone” pretty hard.
The spice was pretty well done; could have used a few more descriptors though.

Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Steam: 🌶️🌶️
Tropes: forced proximity, language barrier, mating heat, size difference, double 🍆

If you’re looking for some interesting alien smut, this is it. This book features your typical jungle alien planet with strange and dangerous creatures, including the MMC.

The MMC is the last of his kind - a centipede and vaguely humanoid alien. The FMC is stranded on this planet after an emergency landing in an escape pod. The MMC is very sweet and protective. Eden, the FMC, is really wary of him at first due to his intimidating size & appearance. They do break through the language barrier quickly (like a week) and she begins to care for him.

I felt like there could’ve been some more detail such as the mating heat. It’s mentioned a few times but nothing really comes of it? There isn’t a heat induced mating frenzy or anything. I also was a little confused during the first sex scene … like, I think it was DP? I’m pretty sure it was but it was from the MMC’s POV and then when we switch to the FMC’s, it’s the morning after. She only reflects that her 🐱 is sore.

Overall, I liked it! There was some plot and an interesting research facility so I’m interested in what comes next.

No sé ni que opinar. El libro es adictivo a la par de raro pero me ha gustado, creo que las descripciones son bastante acertadas y detalladas y me lo he leído en un segundo.

This was super cute! I'm surprised it doesn't have more hype, what with the dude having two peens and the monster romance readers eat that shit up (I would know).

A cute and fast read

Vehdral and Eden are cute. This is a fast-paced book. Eden crashes on a planet in a restricted area of space. She is attacked by a creature of the planet and is saved by Vehdral.
Vehdral is the last of his kind. Then he comes across a strange being that awakens his mating instincts.
Vehdral is a sweetheart, a cinnamon roll who is protective of Eden. But he doesn't think her incapable, just small and needs to be protected.
The ending leaves it open for more story, but it's not really a cliffhanger.

Like I said, it's very fast-paced. But it's good. I do wish a bit more story was in the book. I was left wondering a bit about things, but it wasn't things that took away from the story. The world building was good, I do think a bit more of the world could have been added, but what is there was vivid and intriguing. The character development was a bit lacking for Eden. She just kind of suddenly wanted to stay and loved him, but Vehdral was awesome, and his development was cute and endearing.

The spice spicy, but because of the length of the book, there wasn't much, but it was good!

I have a huge fear of anything with a bunch of legs so I was like “I’ll probably DNF this when it gets too….leggy.”

Well I did NOT because this was cutie adorable and a perfect read on my vacation! I don’t think this necessarily did anything unique in terms of plot. It pretty much follows the beats of your usual crash landed human + primitive planet + alien love interest. Which is great! Those things work for me for a reason and that’s not a bad thing. I did wish the ending hadn’t been so rushed and I know you’re probably like “it’s a novella Tori”.

Well that is true. What is also true is that I wish it had been like maybe 25-30 pages longer. Because some cool experimental bug creation was teased and I wanted more!

Nice story

Nice quick pace story. I wouldn't have minded if it was a tad longer to flesh out some Of the scenes, but it was a good start to the series

3/5 ⭐️s

Not a bad read for a relatively new author!

I went into this a *little* hesitant, but Vedrahl was the SWEETEST. He just wanted to cuddle with Eden all the time, and if that had been the whole book, I wouldn’t have complained.

Eden and Vedrahl’s relationship was cute if not a little basic. It’ll be interesting to continue following A.I Lustre’s writing to see how their writing progresses because there’s a lot of potential here.

There were some pacing issues and abrupt character developments, but overall I enjoyed this fast and fun read!

Yes, I will admit that this is rather fast moving, but...it's also sweet, y'know? Sometimes you just need a sweet, straightforward romance, without a lot of plot, a lot of angst, etc. I appreciated this for what it was, centipede-i-ness and all. Eden and Vedhral are cute together, they interact well, everything makes sense, and...

Quite honestly, I could not ask for more.

This seems to be a newer author of the genre, as there's only 2 or so books out by A.I. Lustre so far, but regardless, I think I'm going to like their work, so I'll be following along.

I'm guessing the next romance book in this particular series might focus on Eden's sister, Evie?

(Also, as an aside, LOVE the artwork for everything here--thank you, it's really helpful to have visuals for what alien monsters look like in romances. And, as we all know, the anatomy is important, wink wink.)

This was...okay. It was almost like a short knock off of Ensared by Tiffany Roberts.
SPOILERS AHEAD

Similarities:
• FML crash landing on random planet.
• FML rescued upon first meeting by ML.
• ML is half insect & a loner (though this is not by choice with Mr. Centipede)
• Language barrier.
• Forcing FML to remain in nest.
• Teaching FML to weave.
• Rival tribe of insectmen who are dangerous.

In this story, Eden crash lands on a random planet where she immediately finds herself in danger. Her cries for help awaken her insect male lead to rush in and save her, which he does easily before bringing her back to his nest. Upon awakening from her ordeal, she is understandably freaked out to be in the company of Vedhral who is half man/half centipede.

The language barrier leads to minor misunderstandings though they quickly learn each other's language (like insanely fast) and she allows him to hunt for her/feed her and take care of all her needs while trying to get him to relax enough to escape him. He warns her of the dangers outside the nest and practically begs/demands she lay low. Eden is having none of that and promptly leaves the nest the moment he goes off to hunt.

Of course danger finds her in the form of feral scorpion men who injure Vedhral, forcing them to seek safety. She warms up to him a little but still is plotting to leave the entire time. As rescue comes in the form of her sister and a man who has screwed them over in the past, Eden is determined to solve a mystery (don't want to spoil), mate with Vedhral (whom she was adamantly against all this time), and stay with him.

This whole book is very rushed and honestly feels like this all happens in a span of a few days, maybe a week. Perhaps if I had read this book before Ensared, I wouldn't feel like it was such a rip off. I spent more time thinking "Ah....just like Ensared, what's next? Ah that too..." rather than finding anything really unique.

And for anyone wondering about Vedhal's assets...double the fun (he's got two), uniquely shaped, large af, hidden until ready for action.

2/5 spice 🌶️🌶️
Space pirates, human centipede, and evil scorpions oh my. My main question: what was the point? It was short so I expected an erotica. This is not that. Okay so it's more plot based than I expected. No biggie. No need to dock the author for my misunderstanding. At least the plot was good right? No.
The first 40% of this book is all about now they can't understand each other and there is one scene where he licks her nipples without consent because he didn't know what they were. The next 30% has one spice scene and a journey, and the last 30% is the conclusion and has more spice than the other 70% of the book combined.
What's my beef? Let's talk about my beef.
Characters: The FMC is okay. I think a few of her choices were stupid but no one is perfect. Now the alien dude? I don't get it. He doesn't know what a human is but two paragraphs later he knows what her hips are? I get it it's fiction but I expect consistency if you're gonna be plot heavy.

Plot: Okay we have a chick on an alien planet with an alien who wants to mate her. What else? They can't understand each other? Mkay. Anything else? See it feels like it should be an erotica and it reads like one.. minus the erotic.

Spice: THE WHOLE DAMN POINT is that he's a centipede alien. They do not use this fact for the spice. It's written very much so like he's just a human. Yeah has two peens. But that's not unique to him, a lot of smut has two peen monsters. I was expecting something freaky with the combination of a bug alien but it was just.. like a human with a strap on.

Overall I'm really sad, with this cover (the anime one on kindle, not the freak horizontal centipede head) I was expecting some freaky nasty shit which it didn't have (that's fine, not everything is gonna crazy and freaky) but then the plot was so empty and forced.

**spoilers** Good, though could have been great.

Okay, so I'm a suckered for this kind of story. You've got your stranded woman who meets the scary beast native to the island and they learn to communicate... but there were just too many threads for me that were just not used properly.

Spoilers below!!!

Our heroine is actually an escaped prisoner... I really think she could have been a great character if she was a bit more of a "space pirate" if you will. But rather, she seems like just an ordinary girl with basic survival skills. I feel like she would have been more compelling if she had more motive than just to get back home.

I also found it odd that they could learn to communicate so quickly. He learned complex English very quickly, and yet still doesn't know major words. (He can conjugate, but he doesn't know the word 'promise')

There were also a lot of grammatical or just random errors that should have been picked up by an editor. And honestly, that took it down a star for me.

Eden (h) escapes from a prison ship attacked by pirates and crash lands in an escape of on an unknown jungle planet which seems to be home to a number of insect-like species. She’s terrified when a giant purple centipede-man, Vedhral (H), rescues her and takes her to his underground home. The pair struggle with communication issues with one another, but as they spend time together they get to know one another and Eden finds herself drawn to Vedhral who’s been insisting all along that she’s his mate. Vedhral would do anything for his mate even as she continues on her quest to escape the planet. Ultra-hot and steamy alien insect romance with planetary danger and adventure. Must love lots of legs and special eggplants.

When I heard about this is I was like, okay I have to at least check it out. And even though centipedes gross me out even more than spiders I'm glad I did! As a community (the monster fudger community) we need to come up with a term for when you're grossed out but also into it. Horn-icked? Something that has the same vibe as "scaroused".

Vedrahl is a big ole cinnamon roll of a bug man, very sweet and respectful and just a good bean all around. I was very hornicked for giant centipede man with two dicks. Go big or go home, right?

Beyond the uniqueness of the character it's a pretty standard "human woman stranded on alien planet" sort of premise. It's a bit Naomi Lucas-y as plots go. Think Naga Brides.

What A Great Read.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, after having seen some art and the cover that sparked my interest. A new author for me and an unusal character.
Eden ends up crashed onto an unknown planet after escaping a prison fate. She is rescued by Vedhral, the semi humanoid centipede. Despite the language barrier, they do eventually manage to communicate. I loved Vedhral, his rescue, his caring, nuturing and protective character. Despite Eden wanting to get off the planet, they learn to communicate and a surprise visit from her sister and with other issues to resolve, lead each to declare how they feel. Evie was lovely and knew how Vedhral felt towards Eden, she saw the same of Eden.
I look forward to reading more from this author. :)

it was cute

It was a cute read. *spoilers* Some of Eden’s reactions were a little annoying. I think it would have been better if they had left the planet and lived on earth, I mean they’re were other aliens so I was assuming it wouldn’t be as weird. Also the guy that came on the ship with her sister was a real piece of work. I didn’t get his reactions after meeting Vedhral if he had met other aliens then it shouldn’t have been so weird about Eden and Vedhral together. His reactions I just didn’t get. Also. Eden just set on leaving and leaving Vedhral without even asking him if he wanted to come, but she was ok with sleeping with him and leaving. Like that wasn’t cool. I hope there’s a story with her sister Evie. But other than all that it was still a cute read

Loved!!!!

First let me start off by saying I hate Centipedes, millipedes, spiders, scorpions, it’s the legs, yeah pretty sure all those legs freak me the F out. But……. I picked up this book because another author recommended it on her page ( an author that made me want a spider mate even though I am terrified of spiders) and man was I hooked from the get go. This was such a great read! So kudos to this author for writing a centipede alien that I would be absolutely terrified of and making me fall in love him. The spicy scenes were so flipping hot and I mean double eggplants, whew, I’m fanning myself over here!! Will definitely be reading more by this author.

Amazing!!!

Extremely well written I was only edge of my seat reading this And I was so sad when it ended I felt like the story telling was extremely good and I also feel like the world was really interesting I feel like they're definitely more to the story there's just so much Plot development here And I feel like it's weird for the story to end like this there's still a lot of questions that haven't been answered I would be so thrilled if there is a second book omg!! In the spicy scenes like oh my gosh No words can describe how awesome they were A must read Just for that😫🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶

I love the weird… So when I stumbled across this little romance, I thought to myself “A centipede huhhh…well, what the hell.” And, even though he’s a bug-man, and it’s sort of icky, this was written pretty well, was interesting, inventive, and sweet. I really appreciate that the author didn’t use the old, standby of a universal translator, letting them instantly communicate; instead, they had to get to know each other the old-fashioned way. What I did not appreciate, was the lack of prep… Holy cow, ouch.

Eden

Eden is on her way to prison when the ship gets taken by pirates. She was able to escape, but has landed on a planet that seems to be uninhabited. She soon finds that there are aliens on this planet and one in particular wants her to be his mate. She still wants to go home to her family though and when her sister shows up she's determined to fix her ship and go home. When her centipede alien saves her once again though she realizes that she loves him and doesn't want to be apart anymore.

3/5 stars! This was an enjoyable quick read in the monster romance genre. I enjoyed learning about Eden and Vedhral's story. I did feel like there were too many similarities/overlaps between this story and Tiffany Roberts' Spider Mate series than I was comfortable with. I recognize there will be some overlap with alien insect romance, but there were portions where I had deja vu because it reminded me so strongly of that series. Overall an enjoyable read. If I find evidence it was plagiarized, I will be updating my rating to 0 stars.

This was a chance read. I love the unknown species authors take a try at writing. They pair them with humans and make it work.
This book was one of them. Vedhral is a sweet male. If you get past the fact he is a centipede humanoid that is. Eden does just that. It takes them awhile to get a language bridges so they can communicate with each other. But when they do she finds he just wants her to be happy and he wants her.

Aliens that are truly alien 👽

I came across this book and actually loved all of it....I too am not a bug fan, but the author did a wonderful job on making you care about the MMC. He was a cinnamon roll. There was great world building as well...plus an interesting story...not gonna lie. I am so curious about the "lab." Even though this is a short read, the author was able to get a lot of story in.

I am looking forward to reading more in this series.

Cute. It was aight.

Pros:
-An alien Hero who actually looks alien
-Consensual sex
-H has two peens. Meaning he has double the fun
-H is adorbs
-Writing is decent

Cons:
-Meh heroine. She makes dumb decisions
-Lack of tension, the drama felt shallow
-Subpar smut. Perhaps AO3 has ruined me :(
-Too short for proper world/relationship build
-No real chemistry between the h and H. Felt like most of it was lust

Overall, worth the read for something short and sweet.

It’s almost a shorter, choppier version of a Tiffany Roberts book about a spider

The story was okay but somewhat rushed and wooden. It sometimes lost it natural progression which me feel like I had missed something. I truly enjoyed that Vedrahl was handsome both inside and out which drew me to keep reading. Nothing annoys me more in an alien romance that having a monster character that is incompatible anatomically and unattractive. The artwork was amazing.

Simple and cute

The main female character was nice but also boring at the same time. She couldn't decide 'not to leave or to leave', until she puts herself in danger TWICE after the main male character gets injured TWICE and then she decide I'll stay, the male character deserved better. Not much spicy 3/5 but cute little story.

I was actually really surprised that I didn’t hate it. It was interesting, there was enough conflict that keep me invested, and the spice was well done. Some of it muddled up, and some names are super similar so it was easy to get them confused.

If you don’t mind throwing off your recommended reading for a while, it’s not the worst thing you’ll read.
