This is AI.
It has to be. The dialogue is written like bad fan translated yaoi manga from the 1990-2000's someone downloaded of IIRC.
Don't know what that is? Thank your lucky stars. Because neither do I and I lived through it.

I got exactly three pages in and my girlfriend is mad at me for making her read some of the experts.

Not only does the first sentence of the synopsis not even make sense, the quote used from the vampire Armand ALSO does not make sense.

Like many others I was drawn in by the cover and honestly, that looks like it might be AI too.

Don't read this. Don't give it a download, don't waste your time.

No one ever give this Author access to writing tools ever again. I'm not being mean, I'm just thinking of the sheer torture and misery of their future victims.

If this was given to Prisoners of war as a way to pass the time it would be a violation of the Geneva convention.

I have kindle unlimited.
I did not pay to read this.
I still want a refund.

DNF @ 12%.

The cover is absolutely gorgeous, as is Hamilton H. Hamilton. I know this, because everyone keeps saying so and he keeps describing himself. And his clothes, and very minute details that I don’t need to know about, like him closing his eyes while he was he’s his hair so he didn’t get soap in them.

I also would not have touched this book had the blurb mentioned that he is an instructor to three 15 year old boys and the boarding school/academy for vampire slayers. More slaying, less teaching. I don’t want to read pages of lessons.

I don’t know kc this book is supposed to be serious or parody (what with a name like Hamilton H. Hamilton). The narrative feels too introspective. And it keeps lapsing into an omniscient POV, which is driving me nuts.

Alright so here's the deal with this book. Are you looking for a vampire romance novel that is filled with fantastic world building that feels like you are RIGHT there? With explained magic systems and other fantastical whimsy? Probably not the book for you.
If you are looking for a good story, one that reads closer to the fanfictions that you don't admit you read at 2AM? this is it.

My only real complaints were ...
1) I get it. Hamilton H. Hamilton is a hot little twink. I GET IT. Please stop telling me in painstakingly detail what he is wearing, doing (seriously? He held in a belch? ok) and so on. I swear this man couldn't BREATHE without me learning his "chest heaved in his womanly frame".
2) Some of the word choices, the main one being "taste buds" instead of tongue when making out.... please just repeat yourself and say tongue again. I'm begging.

Now that being said. After the halfway point of this book? Everything changed. Suddenly the writing elevated and the story grabbed me like NO OTHER. What was going to be a 2 star review jumped up to a 3.5 IMMEDIATELY. the ONLY reason it's not 4 is because I don't think I will re-read it, however I WILL be buying the second book.

This book is self-indulgent, like a second glass of wine when you're hiding from the kids in the pantry. If that's your speed, run with it.

look the one star reviews are valid! i get it! i totally do! but besties i spent my formative years reading destiel and sterek ff if you honestly think a lil mpreg will weird me out or scare me you are sorely mistaken 🤭

once again this book was objectively bad but it ticked all my boxes. mind says one star heart says three stars slash three point five stars soooooooooooo

can’t wait for the next book in the series even though i legitimately THREW my kindle down after reading the last few chapters. my boy dominick is such a stupid little shit i just know his internal thoughts are going to be a complete chaos. i mean, “Well, shit,” Dominick put his hands on his hips. “This is a little embarrassing, but I’m a bit of a whore, Hamilton. I like to fuck both men and women, and sometimes I never see them again after the night is over.” hello i want to pick his brain asap

Vampire Hunter (or slayer if you wanna be Buffy about it) falls in love with a vampire, his mortal enemy. It's a tale as old as time. A pairing that is the bones for a story of conflict and angst. But this one is not. I've not read a fluffier book in my whole life. It was stuffed with so much fluff I feel like I'm entitled to a free cotton candy after having completed it. The Tale of Two Killers is a misleading title, one that promises so much more than it delivers on.

SPOILERS TO FOLLOW

My issues with this book run deep and I feel it best to break them up into a numbered list (Jenny Nichols style).

The Plot: there wasn't one.
2. Joking. There wasn't an over arching plot. The book was more a compilation of smaller plots tied only together by Hamilton and Dimesius' love. It made the pacing absolutely horrendous. We start with Hamilton meeting and then proceeding to obsess over Demisius until he wears the vampire down and they fall in love. Meanwhile Hamilton contracts and is dying of tiburculosis. It's a non problem because it's treated immediately and he's cured of it. But wait now there's a murderous vampire serial killer. Oops now he's dead and is no longer a problem. But uh oh Hamilton is actually an intersex man with a womb and ovaries and is capable of getting pregnant somehow despite the fact he doesn't have female sex organs. But they are happy and excited. Dhampir baby is born with no problems but now Hamiltons students know he's in love with a vampire. So they want to kill him and they do. But he was bit by a vampire like 3 years ago and carries a single drop of vampire blood so he drinks it while dying and becomes a vampire. The kids lock him up in a dungeon for all eternity.

2. Hamilton H. Hamilton: it's a dumb name. It gives the vibe that the book is meant to be comical and lighthearted. It's not comical. Not at all. Unless you're laughing at how dumb some of the stuff that happens. And that's absolutely unintentional. Hamilton himself is a Mary Sue type character. He's the best slayer. But despite that we don't typically get to see it. We are only told. And once he starts dating Dumesius he turns into a submissive damsel. He even cowers when a vampire comes at him and relies on Demsus to protect him.

3. The other characters: They have no distinguishable personality. They are pretty much all the same character copy and pasted. Dominick aside, they don't have their own individual voices and they feel all like the same baseline character. The vampire and slayer elite were also nearly brain dead. They are working together but pushed hate and vitriol on the foot soldiers. Slayers hated and wanted to kill all vampires because they've only seen the bad. The elite doesn't allow them to see the good despite the fact that they're allies.

4. The dialog: It doesn't line up with the setting. It's placed in the 70s but everyone has a very formal way of speaking that makes them sound timeless. This isn't too much of a bad thing but the formality of it makes it feel unnatural.

5. The perspective: it's confusing. At first it's 3rd person personal for Hamilton but will suddenly swap to a new character between paragraphs. It makes no sense as it doesn't feel omniscient. It feels like within that paragraph the voice only knows the character.

6. The romance: I didn't buy it. I didn't feel that Hammy and Drumesius had no chemistry what so ever but after they start dating the story squeals to a hault to tell you how much they love each other. But it's so insta love. You don't see the development of these feelings they're just suddenly there. In the early stages of the relationship it feels like the romance develops off screen as they "talk" but in a way that has no detail, no definition. It's just stated that they talk. Then time passes and their relationship deepens in ways we don't see. We're just told about it. It's a horrible violation of show don't tell. Show me how much they love each other don't preach to me about the endless, deep pools of irrevocable passion that Hamilton feels when he looks at Doug Dimadome. It's okay to have time skips if you actually show me their relationship when it's on screen.

7. The length vs. The content: This book is over the length I typically go for. I usually read in the 300s but this one clocks in over 400 pages. That wouldn't be a problem if what was in those pages was interesting. Despite all the events I listed above, it doesn't feel like anything happens. It's just beyond boring at times which is why I think so many people apparent dnfd it. The last 25 percent of the book I thought I might too. This is during the pregnancy stuff. I ended up skimming and skipping large chunks and still don't feel like I missed anything. It couldn't have been seriously compressed and edited down to a respectable length. It only got interesting at the very, very end. And jt made me wish that the end had been expanded on and the padding in the middle had been removed. Which leads me to...

8. This feels like a 1st draft: I don't know if any editing was done. But the grammar In this novel was atrocious at times. It was in serious need of a good few proof reads, edits, maybe rewrites. 2nd and 3rd drafts. Maybe this could have been a great novel had it been given the time.

Overall, this book FEELS like a debut novel. The thing is, I thought the authors prose was immaculate and had they put more thought and care into the characters, plot, and editing, I think it could have been good.

I have some ideas as the how the plot could have been condensed to make it more interesting. For starters it should have been a murder mystery. Vampires and Slayers should be allowed to know about the alliance because that secret breeds hate. The crazed vampire serial killer plot line should be the main focus as they search for and try to take him down. Hamilton is assigned as the slayer to investigate Demisius is appointed by the Vampire elite to help him (Yes I don't think he should be a Vampire king.) During their investigation they fall in love. Hammy still contracts tb. He is weakened and almost killed by the killer when he gets too close. He gets bit just the same but kills the killer in the process. They try to cure him of tb but it's NOT working so Demisius gives him some of is blood if he decides he wants to change to survive. His racist also crazed students find out about it and attack him. The ending plays out the similar. Hammy changes but is prisoner of the students. Demisus uses his brain and telepathically contacts Hammy since hes his maker. He kills the students and frees him and they live happily ever after. Er whatever.

I really enjoyed this book, but I can see why not everyone would like it, I would truly recommend looking up the trigger warnings.
The writing does have some grammar errors at the beginning, but it gets a lot better. As some have said, the story does feel like fanfiction, but I don't see that as a bad thing, it was entertaining, funny and cute, I believe it only has that feeling because of the fast pace and the vampire plot.

Talking more about the good things, the romance was so good, I would definitely read another story just about Demi and Hamilton being in love and domestic with each other, they truly were so cute I can't stop thinking about some of the quotes I saved.

But, it is not just romance. The story introduces some hard topics such as illness, hate, and death. In the end, It left me with so many emotions, but I'm definitely reading the next ones.

"He wouldn’t be caught in this situation if it wasn’t for the affects of the condition he was in."

This book is just begging for an editor - using affect in the place of effect should never make it into a published book! Even my phone's autocorrect is trying to fix that quote.

Pronouns are your friend. You're allowed to say "He" instead of constantly referring to your characters as "the blonde man" or " the Austrian boy" over and over again.

Constantly slipping into an omniscient point of view makes many passages confusing, and I kept needing to reread to understand what was going on.

Aside from the writing, I just didn't care about any of the characters. For the first half of the book, I was hoping Demi would die so Hamilton could have an enemies-to-lovers run with Dominic. There was no tension in the relationship and the baby added nothing to the story. Basically, if at any point the next sentence of the book had been "and then everyone died. The end." I would have felt absolutely nothing.

"I am yours in a manner I have never belonged to another. I will love you and protect you from all, return to you always, treasure each moment we have spent and each we will spend together in this long life. Never will I allow a single night to go by where I do not remind you of my feelings. And though I have said such words before, I will say them however many times I must so that it is always known what thrives within me for you. I've discovered that you are truly what I'd been waiting for all this time."

I must be crazy passing through an existential crisis but idc if this was a fanfic on Wattpad or that needed more editing, it was entertaining and cute, that's all I ask for in a romance.

I really wanted to like this tbf. Pretty boy vamps with a dash of magical mpreg baby? Sounds funny, i'm in.

But god the writing style ended up feeling so so juvenile. I don't know if this had anyone legitimately editing it, because it sure didn't feel like it, unfortunately. The overuse of epithets - like we know that Hamilton is a slayer, you don't have to mention it every other sentence. We know where his students were from already. Just use their goddamn names and/or pronouns. It's like writing 101. Also the constant overdescribing of what everyone's wearing... no one cares. We don't need five billion sentences of what colour blouse he was wearing or if he had on tight black pants. It's redundant.

I'm just irritated because I am so genuinely disappointed. Sure, I know the quality of self-published/indie books can vary (so can the quality of traditionally published books too, let's be real) so I'm trying not to be too harsh. But the writing style threw me off so bad. Then the pacing and Hamilton's instalove (you can tell me as much as you want that they spent time together for weeks, but if it doesn't happen on-page then it doesn't count imo) started to grind my gears seriously.

Why were these two in love? I can buy Demi-whatshisface , at least he knew of Hamilton before, found him pretty and powerful and kinda pined but Hamilton? What else is there except Demi is respectful and handsome - apparently?

Also... there really isn't a plot. You could have gone anywhere: explore more vampire-human relations, build up conflict of one of H's students going rogue earlier and way, way better instead of just boom, vampires are monsters, let me murder them all wah wah.

At least the e-book didn't cost me that much. :p

I kept seeing this book on TikTok as being absolutely stunning, and the fact that it included Mpreg was really appealing. However, it is not. It is really disappointing. For starters, the pov. At the beginning you can think it is mc's pov in third person, but you keep reading little bits of the other characters thoughts. The plot is lacking to say the least, everything happens in a rush, and you can’t sympathize with any of the characters because you don’t really know them. The mc is the best slayer ever, but you don’t see him do a thing related to slaying. And don’t get me started with the mpreg, because what in the wattpat??? Don’t lose you time and go find something better to read on ao3, you’ll thank me!

I'm kind of surprised I even made it to chapter three. I wanted to like this book, because the cover is pretty and the blurb sounded interesting but... The writing was not great. The book was set in 1950 in the first chapter, then the 1970s (at least before I stopped). With how the characters talked, you'd think the book was set in the 1870s! I don't need 70s slang, but everyone sounded so dull when they spoke.

The writing was wooden, stilted, and the author tried using words in places that didn't work (example: "...looking straight up into Hamilton’s equipped eyes..."). What does that even mean? There were also a lot of epithets, which drives me batty. The POV also seemed to switch from 3rd limited when the MC was alone to 3rd omniscient whenever another character showed up.

This book needs to be edited, then edited again for good measure.

DNF @ 35% LIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD. Reviews are for Readers.

TikTok is still a liar. And it strikes again.

… Look I have read some really bad vampire books and just had a silly fun time, but this book was straight up unreadable.

Like… the characters would go on random tangents out of NO WHERE. Bro would just start yapping with no start to the convo or not following up with what the other persons said. Also, this was like PEAK Insta love like on page 30 the MC was literally talking about falling in love after like two convos… and the MC had the same convo about being interested in each other like four times (probably more to be honest).

There is no conflict LMAO. Literally one of the characters is sick and the other ones spends 130 pages half heartedly trying to convince get treatment and then they do. WOW. crazy…? I have no idea how this books is 330 pages (because I refused to read after the 130 pages mark when the love interest started info dumbing about his not that tragic past that I didn’t care about that started out of no where) like there is no plot and the romance is literally wrapped up and basically finished by the 150 page mark???????????

Also, literally the premise of vampire hunter x vampire would be super easy to do at least enjoyably but it was fumbled so bad. There was no of the questioning of duty vs. Love or the forever questioning of each others desire or intent with getting together with who should be their enemy… it was “Oh we met once… didn’t really talk at all… and then now I am in love with you” in the course of like 30 pages.

the worst part is the writing. It is terrible. Like each sentence to paragraph to page seems to have been written in a vacuum and BARLY follows the its predecessor or continues into the next. There is also no excitement or passion in the writing and did not ignite any emotions at all. It was like the book the entire time was like “oh this sounds like a good idea or fun” so I cam either going to glaze over it or tell it to you in the most bland way possible. The MC straight up does not have an internal dialogue half the time so it literally is character did a, character did b, and then some of the worst BARLY comprehendable dialogue disgraces the page. Each scene between the main leads were literally so short but somehow so boring.

Overall, the best part is the cover and the title. This read like a book written for the dark broom closet on wattpad where the cringe 2011 vampire first drafts are supposed to die. And I mean it is written exactly like fanfic. This plot maybe would have worked if I had an entire cannon to understand (even though the writing still would have been horrific) but it really suffers from the lack of editing or original thought.

If you want an interesting vampire x hunter book, Silver Under Nightfall by Rin Chupeco - slow burn and action heavy but of much better quality.
If you want a pure vampire romance, Karla Nikole’s Lore & Lust is fun (I read this a few years ago but remember enjoying it) and so is How to Bite your Neighbour and Win a Wager.

The Tale of Two Killers was a book that I wanted to like, Vampires are like my thing. [Mpreg not as much but i'm working on that] Now like many other readers i was drawn into this book after seeing the beautiful cover and i decided to read it even though the mc being called Hamilton did throw me off a little i decided to continue on my vampire mpreg journey!

Now, the main downfall of this book is its writing its just not great, and with a plot of fantasy, vampires and vampire slayers it was just too much and did not work within the writing style. It kinda dragged and did not connect you to any of the characters, i could not of give less of a fuck about any of them, they did not have much depth and just kept repeating the same little things about them over and over so you got zero connection with them including the main character [hamilton] They were all very one dimensional and really needed fleshing out more before developing into a story this big.

The plot was actually pretty interesting. I loved the idea behind the vampires and vampire hunters and the political side of that and how Hamilton trained other hunters. I would of liked to read more about that process, I think this book has alot of really good ideas, just not great executions. Even the main romance fell short with it being very insta love, like they're supposed to hate each other but they just suddenly get together? Now im a sucker for romance and can normally overlook basically anything if i find the romance good but even that wasn't, i think i honestly cared more to see this world actually be built on and plot fleshed out more than i did the romance as it was just kinda boring? Like I said the characters are really one dimensional so the characters interacting when supposed to be romantic are just kinda like watching paint dry.

So yeah the overall plot had some good ideas but i wouldn't really recommend it, but i'm sure there will be people who enjoy this so if you like the ideas than still give it a go!

Where's the rest

I should've known, thisss book really hit the spot written amazingly it's a stunning book with a good dose of domestic life 😍(love me some domestic life) but...

There's a cliffhanger.

I hate cliffhangers now I have to wait till the next book for my happily ever after🫠

I knoww a lot of people disliked this and points valid a lot of the whole human getting pregnant is simply not explained and so on but I really like this it was like a breath of fresh air for the vampire x slayer genre 😵‍💫🫡 hopefully next book is better.

Finsihed June 8th, 2024. This book took me out of a reading slump fully. I won't lie, the beginning did feel a little fanfictiony, being like the vamoire slayer is the most powerful waaaa. But it was an enjoyable read. The love between the 2 main characters is so good. The plot points were hitting. A little weird at times. My only complaint is when Hamilton gets pregnant, it did feel like suddenly he was useless? And a little after? BUT THE ENDING???? Vile. Evil. The author knew what they were doing. They said read the next book if you truly wanna know. And now I have to. That sick smart author.

I find appalling that people are comparing this to fanfic given the absolute masterpieces I’ve read in fanfic, which this is not.
Anyways, does this have world building? NO, it’s pretty basic but not a dealbreaker if you’re looking for an easy-light read.
Does it have relationship building? NO, after a handful of meetings they are completely infatuated, MC is already in love and ML is ready to accompany him in sickness and in health. NO buildup whatsoever. The fact that they are already in love after so short interaction is anticlimactic.

It’s really sad because I do believe the characters and story had a LOT of potential, but it’s so badly executed that I found it hard to read.

Boy do I have some stuff to say about this book.

First of all, I was in the anime/manga world for around fifteen years, and have read mpreg stuff since around ten years ago. And I have to say that this felt like some yaoi mpreg manga I wouldn’t give a second glance to. But I’m not the type to DNF, so I finished it anyway.

This book is too damn long, with unimportant details. I don’t need to know what all characters are wearing and in what colour all the time. And the author kept repeating the same point in different kinds of paraphrases, it’s hurting my brain. I have ADHD, and it says something when I can remember how repetitive something is. It means that THEY WERE REPEATED TOO MANY TIMES.

Julius’s backstory could’ve used some more stuff. He was too obsessed for not enough reason, I feel like? Idk. His character growth could’ve used some more polishing. Kingston seems to just be there, and Samuel only took my attention near the end. Poor boy. Other characters are also just…there. They’re not developed enough for me to feel anything for them. I’m the type to cry over death, even for a side character, but I didn’t feel anything for Teresa.

And did I mention how the classic-yaoi-manga is too strong with this one? Enter the pretty, feminine, might-as-well-be-a-girl MC but also strong as fuck with a body that defies the law of biology, and the ML that is too perfect and powerful for this world with a broody, mysterious aura but also the most kind and understanding being ever. The word cliché came from this kind of pairing. And don’t forget the baby with two toned hair. Like, what in the anime???

I skipped a lot of things. Like I said, this book is too long and some stuff were dragged out unnecessarily. The spicy part made me sleep. I’m not joking, I literally fell asleep when they had their first sex.

And the mpreg. *sighs* I’m very well versed on mpreg. I’ve read a shit ton of mpreg stuff. And this one looked like it was thrown in on a whim. If I was Hamilton, I would’ve freaked the fuck out if I got pregnant and tried to claw the fetus out, not cry tears of joy. No one explained how he was able to get pregnant till the end of the book. Maybe they’ll explain in the second book but I felt like it would be better in the first one. Just a simple explanation would be fine. Like an elder’s bite or sex on a particular moon cycle or whatever. BUT NOTHING WAS EXPLAINED. Last time I checked, biological males can’t conceive.

It got interesting near the end tho. But I was a bit baffled when the CC ended that way with just a simple sentence from an angry elder. Doesn’t make too much sense when the author never mention how tense the alliance in the CC has been this whole time. Anyways, the author left it on a good cliffhanger that does make me wanna torture myself with the sequel. So I guess there’s that.

This was not IT. Honestly, I don't know where to start to even put my thoughts into words, much less words to accurately express what I'm feeling and thinking after finishing this book. But boy oh boy this was a task to get through, nevertheless, I will make an attempt.

First off what threw me for a loop was the explanation or evidence to back up the existence of the MPREG aspect of the book. At first, I wrongly assumed Hamilton, one of our male lead characters, was of a supernatural background after bearing witness to his unusual feats as a mere human. Quite frankly, any reason other than the reason we were given would have sufficed, but we can't pick and choose how a story is shaped. But moving on.

These were the tamest vampires, outside of Twilight, I have ever read about. Many of the usual characteristics we are used to are not present in this book. Not that I find anything wrong with variations, but I felt I was reading about two normal people and when something supernatural is mentioned I would be confused why it's there.

Another thing I found disconcerting is Bosier not firmly establishing in which era in time she wanted her character's speech patterns to follow. And then her overly descriptive writing of their attire. I didn't need to know that Hamilton wore bell-bottom jeans, platform shoes, and a flimsy top to go shopping. Be prepared to know exactly how each character is dressed for every scene throughout the book.

Also, just as a warning, there are unexpected POV switching within the same conversations or when there are multiple people in the room.

Finally, as difficult as the book was for me to finish I am genuinely curious how the second book will continue the story, especially from a different POV, while still trying to achieve an HEA for the original couple.

For everything else, I'll let you discover those little nuggets for yourself.

There are a few things that readers should know before they get into this book. One being, you will get hooked. The plot was amazing, weaved together well, however I do have some complaints before I get into why I loved it.

There was way too much telling/descriptions of scenes, a big pet peeve I have personally is when an author describes every outfit they wear, every room they enter, the way they do their hair everyday. The smaller details could be replaced with extendable plot lines, especially towards the end when the book felt rushed.

(Semi Spoiler): Unpopular opinion, but I HATE nicknames! I loved reading the book, but cringed every time there was a new nickname introduced. I lost it when Hamilton started calling Demesius, Demi…but that’s just a me thing. (And had no effect on my star rating).

Now for the positive review! Pushing away what I’ve complained about, it was a genuinely amazing book! You have the cute lighthearted romance, you have the family dynamic, you have the heartbreak, and that cliffhanger! I mean come on, WHAT!? I’m genuinely excited for number two. Not only that, but because the author is a small author, they’re easy to reach for any questions you may have on the novel. It hooks you from the beginning and you just keep reading to see what will happen. The plot deepens itself so much from beginning to end, however with the pregnancy trope, it felt just a bit rushed, but not too much. It was on the verge of a sweet spot, but I wouldn’t have minded an extra chapter or two on it.

Yes, I would recommend it. Yes, I would read it again. Definitely try giving it a chance before you decide not to read it, I’ve seen a few too many negative reviews on the book that may turn away other readers.

I really tried to like this I mean I made it halfway through the book. If that is not effort, I don’t know what it is. Someone suggested that this was written by AI, and I don’t know about that, but maybe who knows. What I do know is that this does not read like any of the vampire romances that I am used to reading or that most of the romance girlies are probably used to reading .

I think I was more titillated by “Twilight” than I was by this book. For a vampire romance, there is surprisingly very little to no biting, very little to no blood drinking, and actually very little talk of vampire Lore. I only realized that these vampires could not go out in the sun, because they finally mentioned it like 40% through. I know this seems like an obvious thing, but so many authors have their own ideas about vampire lore I feel like getting some basics down should happen pretty early.

This author treats the couple and honestly the vampires, essentially like normal people with the exception of occasionally mentioning that there are in fact vampires walking around and vampire slayers, which is what Hamilton H. Hamilton‘s role is.

If you want, what is an essentially healthy well functioning, well paced couple that has a normal progression into their relationship, featuring some heavy petting and hot make out sessions that are NOT well described and just knowing that one is a vampire and one is a vampire slayer without any biting then this is probably for you.

If you want a hot, dominant vampire and a deadly twink vampire slayer with spicy scenes and biting and action-packed, vampire slaying and vampire possessiveness there is none of that here.

Unfortunately, even the background plot just isn’t particularly captivating
