A dreaded engagement. Secrets spilled. Blood shed. All before dinner is served. Jasmine and Yacouba's world's collide in the most extraordinary way. Do they have staying power? Or will their fire burn out as quickly as it ignited?
This is a prequel to the upcoming dark romance series, The Consortium. It will introduce new characters and a few old. Expect the first full-length novel this fall.
Do y’all remember the dinner scene at the cabin in the movie “Why did I get married”?! Chyyyyy when I tell you Yacouba was Angela and Mike rolled into one with the way he was spilling that piping hot tea!!!!! 😩😩😩 Secrets were not safe after he rolled up in Jasmine and David’s dinner to get revenge and expose a few frauds in the process!! And you know where I was?! Here 👏🏽 for 👏🏽 it 👏🏽!!!!
Jasmine was a successful structural engineer and when I tell you sis had her ish together, it was together and held tight with gorilla glue!! Unfortunately despite her success and the black girl magic she sprinkled in her path, she allowed her age (not even 30 😒) and 5 year relationship with her on page perfect, mediocre áss boyfriend to have her getting ready to settle into a life that she truly didn’t want oh BUT GOD!!! AKA Yacouba came to wreck sh*t in the best way possible! LISTEN!!!! Dandridge had me at 6ft7 with the thickness of a mountain with the way she described Couba!! The man was a walking, talking orgasm and let me just say he can have me going nighty night any time, any plaaaacceeeeee!!! I’m saayyyying!!!! 😈😮💨
Now y’all know we love a good kidnapping situation!!! Yassssss press your finger against my neck any day if I’m going to wake up at the Miller Estate and be catered to the same way Jasmine was!!! Yacouba’s original plans to use Jazzy as collateral quickly turned into him finding his soul mate! 🥰🥰
I LOVED EVERYTHING about this story and I was THOROUGHLY entertained from page 1 to page 160! The Kiki’s and the cackles were plentiful and all the feels were felt! I’ve already jumped into book two but had to make sure y’all knew that this a book you want on your TBR!! This was my first DM read but it will NOT be my last!!!
Anyone who gave this book less than 4 stars is smokin’ that stuff. Yeah, I said it! Red Roses and Regrets was a phenomenal read. I’ve been wanting to read something by Dandridge Monroe for a while now so, shoutout to my book bestie Rashawnda for influencing me. When I tell y’all this book read like a scene from the Young and the Restless, All My Children, and a telenovela thrown in for a lil razzle dazzle. Jasmine has been waiting on her man to propose and tonight’s the night. She’s been looking forward to this moment for five years but, for some reason, something doesn’t feel quite right. That’s because it’s not. Just as David is down on his knee asking Jasmine to marry him, Couba comes through and blows his entire spot up. When I tell y’all, Couba snitched like he was a woman scorned. The chickens came home to roost that night because, Couba told all of David’s business. If he knew about, so did everybody else. David did this. David did that. David said this. David said that. David was laid up with such and such. David pulled up to such and such’s house at this time. David pulled off at this time. Now, I can’t tell y’all exactly what he said. You gotta read the book for that pipin’ hot tea and, lemme tell you, it's HOT! All of David’s skeletons came tumblin’ out of the closet and, unfortunately for Jasmine, she finds out in the most embarrassing way her fiancée is not the man she thought he was. To add insult to injury, Jasmine is kidnapped because David had the audacity to steal from The Consortium. What started out as a kidnapping for payback turns into a whole damn relationship over the course of a weekend. Jasmine said, “David who?!!!” I loved this book. Red Roses and Regrets was thoroughly entertaining from start to finish. Couba was everything you’d want in a book bae. He was 6 feet 7 inches tall, had tree trunk thighs, was antagonistic, messy, petty and, I was here for all of it. Jasmine was equally sassy, slick at the mouth, and tested Couba’s gangsta and patience every chance she got. These two were absolutely perfect for one another. Their chemistry literally sizzled throughout the entire book. I am 100% invested in this couple and can’t wait to see how their journey ends in book two. This is my first read by Dandridge Monroe but, it definitely won’t be the last.
This book threw me for a loop because it was so much drama going on at the beginning of the book! Jazmine was on her way to a special event planned by her boyfriend David. The entire time she felt as if something was off and not right about the whole thing. That’s when Yacouba came in and destroyed all hope of a happily ever after for Jazmine and David. A few of Jazmine’s family members and David’s raggedy momma showed their a*ses but Jazmine got the last laugh! Not after being fake held for ransom and close proximity with Yacouba though 🤭. I was here for it! This book ended with me having way more questions and the circle that Yacouba is in and who did David snitch to in the FBI?? This series is about to be good and I can’t wait for the next installment! Messy family drama, criminal organization, close proximity, sexual tension, and more are all in this book! Definitely recommend!
But it was good. I need to know more about those organizations and I also wanna know more about Jasmine and Couba. I like them as a couple and I think she’s a ride or die.
I need to know if David is going to die. Like even with having his money back now, David needs a lesson and DeeDee needs to be beat up again cause why do she have so much audacity. I was honestly tired of her, he proved time and time he didn’t want you and you still chased him to win and still lost at the end.
Yacouba, Yacouba, YACOUBAAAAAA 😍😍🥰🥰! The way he came in STEPPINGGGG!!! If Dandridge Monroe doesn’t do anything else, she’s going to write a FIRE 🔥 MMC!
As much as I loved Yacouba, Jasmine has definitely made it to the top FMC list! The way she hands out an a** whipping deserves a standing OVATION! I loved Jasmine’s family as well, her dad, mom, & sister Jada 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾!
David & Deidra 🥴🫠🤦🏾♀️! I’m a so anxious to see the outcome of these clowns!
Well, just damn! My first read by this author, and I must say, where the hell have I been? This read kept me on my toes, deep thinking and laughing my ass off! 😂 Miss Jasmine was so looking forward to this night, as she believed she wanted to become engaged to David. But, something was telling her hold on girl, something ain't right! As the night progressed, that nagging feeling became more prominent, and she took notice. When Yacouba entered the room and cleared his throat, I knew all hell was bout to break loose! Man, the bombs he dropped and the things that were exposed, blew up David's whole spot! Now Yacouba has to sit on Jasmine, as they figure some things out. I swear these two were hilarious! Bougie Jasmine turned into sassy Jazzy quick as hell, and I was here for it! She and Yacouba just fit! She done changed this man's entire world in one weekend! I'm invested and want to know more about the consortium! Will the plan Jazzy put into motion work? Cannot wait to see how all this plays out! What a ride! Loved it! 👍👍👍
This book was so entertaining from start to finish! I started this book right before bed thinking I was gonna read a little bit then finish it in the morning and ended up staying up late to finish it in one sitting.
Yocouba is everything I never knew I wanted in a book bae. He was so got damn messy and antagonistic but in a very funny way. His chemistry with Jasmine was natural and literally sizzled throughout the entire book. This is easily one of my favorite books by Dandridge Monroe.
Jasmine feels like today just may be the day her boyfriend David of 5 years finally decides to make things official. However, when she finally gets to the venue she can't shake the feeling that something is off. On top of that David's mediocre azz hasn't talked with her parents and it's clear that this man doesn't know her at all. While she is trying to figure out how to get out of this bs, Yacouba steps on the scene and saves the day.
When Yacouba starts spilling all the tea. It's clear that Jasmine doesn't know the man she has been with for the past 5 years either. Whew this was some messy ish...Her underhanded cousin really was tryna one up her but was left with a trash azz consellation prize. David is in debt with Yacouba and he decides to take Jasmine as collateral.
Yes to the kidnapping situation. Now, idk what my problem is but this 6'7" fine AF man sounds like a treat to me. I'm down for a little nighty night to wake up to this tree of a man. Jasmine and Yacouba have a connection out of the gate. Things move from 0-100 despite the kidnapping situation and I was here for it 🤷🏾♀️. Iykyk. These two act like they've known each other for years so I'm eager to see how this turns out for them. Off to the next book.
tbh, i wasnt really a fan of this one. had some good gems once jazzy started to realize that david was a f boy.. butttt yea. 80% of it was spent with them getting to know e/o in two days. the ending got a lil interesting but i dont think im advancing to book two.
Insta love. alpha. He falls first. Light kidnapping and DRAMA baby! What I enjoyed most is how the story takes place within a week. It had good pace and good writing .
When I started reading this story earlier this morning, I was not ready to holler and scream with glee. Talk about a story with an abundance of testosterone, whew, you all! The story started tame and then went buck wild with an energy I enjoyed to the fullest point of enjoyment. Jasmine was blindsided by her shady man of five years and was unknowingly rescued by a better choice. And her cousin wasn't about anything. You will scream and hold your breath with how much you will like this crazy journey. I am ready for the next story. Also, Yacouba could hide me any day.
“Hell nah. A superhero has to sacrifice everything he loves for the greater good. I’m selfish as fuck. I’d burn down the whole world behind those I love, no questions asked.” Yes, please! Bring on the OTT male main character willing to cross any line for his love.
Dandridge Monroe knows how to tell a good story. The Mafia-adjacent crime parts are sensible, smart, and on point. The characters are well-written and designed. I have a clear sense of what each character values Jazzy is a breath of fresh air as a FMC.
#FlowerPower She's smart, composed, clear-headed, and about her business, but she does have some vulnerabilities. Her loyalty is a double-edged sword. What I like about her is her ability to lay out her points quietly but firmly and then wait. Either her standards will be met, or they won't. I love her whole approach, and Yocuba was a gift as a MMC.
#Manpower He drops great gems like: "He’d default on the payment this month because his @ss was gonna ☠️ and I’d have a nice crib to sell to someone for cheap."
What dude you know will... ✅️walk up in a spot uninvited. ✅️Interrupt a surprise engagement. ✅️Rat out a cheater to the girlfriend. ✅️Mollwap the guy and drag him throughout the venue. ✅️Ladynap the dude's girlfriend. ✅️make plans to murk the dude and sell his house for profit 😄.
I didn’t realize this was the prequel to the Consortium series but girl Yacouba is fineeeeeee. I just wanted a quick read in between the long books I was reading and this was perfect! It was only 100+ pages so I don’t have much to say but the pacing was good, storyline messy, and even though everything happened quickly it was very believable? I would’ve fell in love too, shit. We gotta work on the grammar though my goodness.
I’m definitely going to dive into this series soon, I’ve been on a kick of reading about a family full of single brothers 🙂↕️
Yacouna is definitely THAT GUY!! He plays no game and gets to business. Even with the handsome darkness to him he still has a loving side. I love how he was with Jasmine after everything. Now as far as goes Jasmine i like her. Glad she didn’t let that lame (David) try to little girl her after his mess was put out on front street. We all know that some family members ain’t ish and then there are others that will step with and for you. That was for sure displayed in this read. From beginning to end the story was moving.
I can’t wait to read the rest of the series and meet the other characters.
This is a NTMA and I really enjoyed this great introduction to the series. While I’m typically not a fan of insta love, the writing and story were executed very well and managed to capture as well as hold my attention, plus the chemistry between J and Y was 🔥. Looking forward to the rest of the series 🥰
I really enjoyed this story. Yacouba saved Jazzy baby from a disastrous future. David and Deidra were trash for treating Jasmine like that and acting like they didn't do anything wrong. Can't wait to read part 2
First timer here and let me tell you this book is gooood. There’s humor and laughter throughout the whole story. They have passion and chemistry for days. Jasmine dad is hilarious. They play no games.
So wild and messy! Yacouba's entrance with that little cough to get everyone's attention and then wrecking that piece of shit David's life was perfection.
I enjoyed this story and getting to know the characters. David and his audacity took the cake for me. He thought he was way more than he was. I liked the chemistry throughout the book. Can't wait to read more.
I love a good messy scene and baby Yacouba coming in dropping gems on top of gems was chef kisses. Jasmine , dragging her cousin was wild, but what was even wilder, her cousin decided to be in her house but hiding the most untrustworthy sneaky secrets.
Jasmine knew good and damn well she did not want to marry that clown. David deserved to get his ass beat up and down the hall by Yacouba lmao.
Yacouba was ready to rearrange his entire life for Jasmine off of one glance and I love when a man is immediately obsessed. I love that he had the forethought to build a home for his future wife and kids even though he wasn't in any kind of relationship when he built it. And even though he already built the house with a family in mind, he still wanted to get Jasmine's thoughts on the house because if she wanted anything changed he would snap his fingers and make it happen.
Jasmine was time enough for Yacouba and she is the perfect match for his lifestyle. Yacouba is my man my man my man. I can't wait for more of The Consortium series.

All within a couple of days this chick gets kidnapped; the kidnapper and the kidnapped fall in love and BOOM, she is now his rider for life ... I'm assuming she will become apart of the Consortium. Maybe, book two will pull me into the storyline more than the initial book ... I would hate to DNF this series! Come on Dandridge Monroe, make me fall in love with this series!!!
This relationship escalated so quickly I'm not sure I can call it insta love. Jasmine how do you go from expecting your man to propose to you to another man's queen with plans to run his empire when you have no idea what that is. Ma'am what?! I think this book was less about their relationship and more about the circumstances that set things in motion for this unclear underground operation that's not real estate 😅
CN: cheating, gaslighting, mentions of drug addiction, gun
What exactly are you supposed to do when the love of your life walks in the room… at you and your boyfriend’s engagement party that you didn’t even wanna be at? Whew. Jasmine didn’t have the answer either, but baby, when Yocouba stepped on the scene? It was over with. That man came in smelling like power, moving like danger, and looking like a walking threat to any woman’s self-control. And the bombs he dropped? Oh, he cleared the whole room and Jasmine’s relationship in one breath. Honestly, he did her a favor—because the tea that came out after? Let’s just say the five years she spent with her “man” were five years too long. What started as a chance encounter turned into a wild ride full of secrets, betrayal, and one man dead set on making sure Jasmine belonged to him. Now listen—this book had me GONE. The kidnapping? The forced proximity? The way Yocouba was obsessed from day one and didn’t hide it? Yeah, I was locked in. And Jasmine held her own even when the world was spinning around her. The chemistry? Fire. The drama? 10/10. The start of what’s clearly a deep, dangerous love story? Yeah, I’m sold. This was the perfect intro to The Consortium series, and I’m already halfway down the rabbit hole. Don’t walk—run to read this.
