Aaron's Awful Allergies

Rate this book
Aaron loves animals more than anything else in the world. But when he is diagnosed with allergies, the doctor tells him that his pets -- a dog, a cat, six kittens and six guinea pigs -- have got to go. After Aaron reluctantly finds each pet a new home, he discovers other ways to make animals a part of his life. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America reports that an estimated one in every five adults and children suffers from allergies. Aaron's Awful Allergies will have special appeal for those millions of children living with allergies.

Aaron loved animals and had many pets. In the summer he got sick and the doctor said he was allergic to his pets. They all had to go. Aaron was very sad for awhile - until he discovered the benefits of a different pet from his parents, and how to still enjoy animals. Fabulous illustrations.

He really loves his dog and animals so much. He then discovers he has an allergy to animals. I would use this as a journal to what is something you've wanted so bad but can't have it and why.

We need more books about children's allergies and the difficulty to say goodbye to your pet friends. I loved the first part of the book, but disagreed with the second part.

The golden fish had to go through a lot of very stressful and dangerous situations (brought to a movie theater, pulled to a tree house, transported in a cart on the street). It is not presented this way, but there would have been a high chance for this fish not to survive so much stress. I didn't feel like Aaron was taking a good care of the fish.

This book might be given to a parent by a teacher if the family has just found out about someone in the family being allergic to the family pet. Did I use family enough? Hahaha! It is a good way to show that there are other animals and creatures that can be loved and appreciated.
