A human girl ... a mysterious stranger ... a forbidden attraction ... a deadly craving...

All Blaire wants is to survive the tedium of yet another family summer vacation to Greenrock Island, Michigan with her best friend Jack and their parents. She's counting down the days until she can escape to college as far away from her parents as possible.

But something feels off this summer. Their parents lock themselves away in the den and day-drink, leaving Blaire and Jack to entertain themselves. And then there is the hot guy with intense green eyes who Blaire caught a glimpse of on the ferry...the one she can't stop thinking about.

***

Roman feels compelled to visit Greenrock with his sister Ellis for the summer. And when Blaire shows up unexpectedly in their very private hideaway, he's convinced she is a danger to them. But his cravings for her go far beyond anything he has ever felt before. Either way, he has to keep her away from them, for everyone's sakes.

Because Roman has a huge secret...one that has the potential to end Blaire's life, if he succumbs to it. But Blaire has a secret too—she just doesn't know it yet...

As the pair struggle against their need for one another, forces beyond their control are gathering, preparing to converge on Greenrock and tear apart everything the two hold dear.

About the author

Layla Pine

Layla has been writing stories ever since she could pick up a pencil and shape words. The most memorable works of her tween and teen years included a rap version of 'Little Red Riding Hood' and an embarrassingly spicy high school camp/murder mystery (which was possibly a sign of things to come).

Layla studied Communications at Newcastle University in NSW, Australia, and worked as a buyer and marketing coordinator in the education sector, before joining her husband in the family retail business. That's still her day job (she's very lucky her boss is pretty lenient, or she'd never get any writing done).

Layla lives on an acreage in regional NSW with her husband, two rambunctious children, four mostly feral cats, and an ancient German Shepherd who still thinks he's a puppy. Oh, and some angry Plovers that swoop her every spring without fail.

12/05/24 - update to include my reread, I forgot how bloody incredible this book is and I enjoyed it so much more this time around! Super excited for Taiga this year! We read this for our indie author book club and I’m so glad we chose it.

*************
I have to admit it took me a minute to get into this book, but once things got going holy heck! I need book 2 asap! I devoured the last 40% of this in a few hours.

This is the adult version of Twilight that I wanted but never got, with some extra on the top

I want more!

Ok, so this book was so good I don’t know where to start. I don’t want to add spoilers, because that’s the best parts! I’ll be as vague as possible!

Although the story started a little slow, it definitely amped up fast and kept me hooked! I loved the mystery and appeal of the stranger on the ferry and the evolution of events. This story gives a fresh perspective on vampires and shapeshifters, namely Drinkers and Shifters. It’s fated mates, but with a cool twist.

I liked the “small town” feel of Greenrock and how Blaire and BFF Jack have to endure a boring summer of family bonding before going off to college. Nothing is as it seems here and Blaire begins to fall for the mysterious Roman. Roman on the other hand is definitely feeling weirded out by his premonitions. He knows something big is going down and needs to get to the bottom of things, while being completely caught up in Blaire and figuring out why he is so attracted to a Candy (human).

Add in some shady government dealings, power hungry leaders, bad blood between Drinkers and Shifters, family drama, hot and steamy romance, and you have the perfect combo! I couldn’t put it down and I absolutely can’t wait for more after that epilogue!

I have so many thoughts about what’s to come and I am here for it all!! There were plenty of 💣s dropped that 🤯! I normally figure out where the story is headed and although I grasped some, Layla was able to just throw out some more information that had me go omg! The spice is so satisfying and you don’t have to be teased and left thigh clenching too long! Roman is a dirty talking, pet-naming, praising male and it is delicious!

Highly recommend and you will not be disappointed!

Layla, Layla, Layla, what am I going to do with you. You wrote in my book a quote that I made you think wicked thoughts, but, my goodness, you had me hooked from the first couple of pages! An effect a book hasn’t had on me in a long time, and, pleasantly, gave me this experience for the first time since returning to the hobby.

Your really seamless transition between scenes and clever flow and display of different character voices and perspectives was effortless.

It doesn’t go unnoticed that you love what you do as a writer and that you took the time to create something you could and or should definitely be proud of.

The scenes are written with just enough detail to make the reader vividly feel that of the characters.

The lead ups and wind downs were perfect. Your story was easy and fun to follow, and had it have not been for needing to go to work and play catch up with sleep and doing other adult things, would’ve been a true, no brainer, can’t put downer.

I’m excited to continue to engage with you as a true fan of your work, and you can consider yourself to have gained another life long follower who will definitely be exploring your other existing and new coming works.

Thank you for the experience. It was fun, quirky, sexy, well written and has me still reeling from the feelings it had given me. My first masterpiece review.

They have a secret, she will find it out. Why are they different, why is she different?

I have no words to explain how much I adored this book. This was fantastic, amazing, addictive and full of mystery!

Wow wow wow wow wow!!!

I so want to write soooo much BUT I can’t say much without giving spoilers(the mystery is fire!)

The plot and storyline is so well done you will be lost in the world of greenrock.

I love how Layla puts in chapter numbers and names!

Multiple POV first person with random snippets in between in third.

This is definitely up there in my top reads of 2023 it was perfect and unique. It had a chunk of mystery with hilarious witty moments whilst also chucking in some spice for us!

This is the second book I’ve read by Layla Pine and it certainly didn’t disappoint!

Literalllllly RUN don’t walk to get your hands on this masterpiece. My life will be shitty until I have my hot little hands on book two!

Layla Pine’s "Greenrock" is a delightful novel that captivates from the first page to the last. Pine’s storytelling is both enchanting and poignant, making for a truly engaging read, is set in the charming and slightly mysterious town of Greenrock. A human girl, a mysterious stranger, a forbidden attraction and a deadly craving.
Blaire wishes she was off travelling the world like all her other friends after graduation. But she’s off to GreenRock island with her parents, her parents friends and their son Jack. Blaire and Jack are best friends who have grown up with each other since birth.
Something feels different this summer, her parents wanting this holiday before she goes off her University suddenly start locking themselves in their den and day drinking, leaving blaire and Jack to look after themselves.
Roman and Ellis travel to GreenRock guided by a premonition drawing Roman to the island. With his black hair and striking green eyes Roman is anything but human.
Blaire and Roman must fight their dangerous attraction to each other while also trying to find out what each other could truely be if not human.
I absolutely loved this book so much. From beginning to end it had me not wanting to put it down. The passion of forbidden love, the sexual tension was through the roof.
And then the 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 was to die for.
The intriguing mystery of working out what Roman, Ellis and Farida are while also waiting to see what Blaire and Jack turn into. I absolutely cannot wait for book 2 and see what happens further with all these beautiful characters.

When Blaire and her childhood best friend Jack go on a family holiday to Greenrock they have no idea what awaits them and how their lives will change forever. This book is more than just a "boy meets girl", it's nail biting, soul gripping and one of those books you just dont put down! Whilst holidaying Blaire meets a hot guy with the most incredible emerald eyes *Roman* whom she can't stop thinking about and is compelled to know. Roman was drawn to visit Greenrock with his sister Ellis when he comes across Blaire his cravings for her go beyond anything he's ever experienced, he knows he needs to stay away from her because his secret has the potential to end Blaire's life. But when he can't stop thinking about her and her him their worlds collide and magic unfolds, there's danger, lust, spice and SO much more in this incredible paranormal romance! Layla Pine really bought this book to life with her passion for writing and I inhaled every word that had me totally immersed! I can't wait until book number 2 !!!

Excuse me, Layla but how do you bring out such amazing books? You are a phenomenal writer and I will recommend you forever!

I adored this book just like all her others. Greenrock was such an interesting read with Blaire and Jack having one last trip to Greenrock before going off to the big bad world. But wait… Roman and Ellis have come to Greenrock too because of a premonition Roman had… Blaire’s parents are acting shady AF… why?

You’ll have to read it to find out. You won’t be disappointed 😏

Wow!

Paranormal romance isn’t my usual genre to read, but I loved the first novel by this author that I just had to read this too.

I was not disappointed. So well written and the mystery of it all kept me from putting it down. While this book is a stand alone for Roman and Blair, there is lots of elements in the storyline that I’m looking forward to reading in future books of this series.

Thanks for another amazing book Layla!

Blaire is such a great FMC with a lot of relatable traits that makes her quite funny and likeable, same goes for the other characters in this story. Well written with a fun, easy to follow plot and lots of action too.

OMG

Where is book 2.

Poor Jack, its hard when the one you love doesn't love you and thinks of you as only a brother.

Blaine when you find the one you need to be with, you do what you have to. Even if others are involved and try to stop this happening.

Roman, when the one you love turns up there is nothing you can do to stop whats going to happen.

Blair and Roman’s story.

I have to start by saying that I don’t read a lot of fantasy; I tend to read it as a palate cleanser every now and again. But I struggled to follow what was happening in this story. Keeping names and “sides” straight is very hard when nobody’s really who they seem to be.
If you like double-cross mystery type stories with a fantasy spin, you’d enjoy this book.

OMG!!! What a ride....I devoured this book, reading it every chance I got....
It captured me right from the start and I have so many questions!!
The main characters are amazing, the story was great and well written. I adore Blaire and Roman, have a soft spot for Jack and Ellis and am intrigued by Farida!!
Science, magic, vampires, shifters....hunger, anger, pain, torment, lust, devotion, love, spice, betrayal, heartbreak, death....the roller-coaster of emotions was fan-bloody-tastic. Book boyfriend #736384 has now been found with potential for another in the next book 😉
Keen to read more from Layla Pine and keen to discover answers to my many questions in the next instalment of this series ❤️❤️❤️

“7/5/24- A ‘ can’t put this down’ kind of book. Filled with mystery in the beginning and leading you on the most delicious journey with a side of thrill and danger . Definitely cannot wait for the next”

The review that started my reading journey all that time ago. Revising this book for a re-read just cements how amazing it is. This, the first book in the renegade stranger series, follows Jack , your home grown football hottie and his best friend since childhood Blaire the cheerleader just begging the summer to end before they both go off to college. Dragged to Greenrock yet again by their families like every year before , for one more round of enforced family time before freedom, thinking nothing exciting has or possibly ever could happen on this little sleepy island. But oh how wrong they are.
From the moment Blaire sets eyes in the dark handsome and broody Roman, something pulls at her. And nothing is the same from that moment in. This is not your normal supernatural romance , though there is plenty of that ‘ touch her and die, fated mates ‘ spice factor that oh my gosh can we have more please. The deep and trilling story line that Layla writes among the characters we become so invested in will keep you on the edge of your seats and ready for book two. Worlds collide and factions split creating danger and destruction in its wake, but will Jack and Bee be safe and figure out what the hell is happening and what the hell they are becoming? Well… we will have to find out as we read on next time; won’t we.

“It was very ‘these aren’t the droids you’re looking for’ … Are you like, a Jedi or something?”

4⭐️ So I like legit smashed this book out within a day. I’m not a fast reader. Say like medium pace. I usually read about 40-60 pages per hour. So not like lightning but definitely not nanna with her walker speed. I finished this within like 4 hours! It was sooooo freaking good. I devoured it like Roman eating his Candies! I had to know what was happening.

All the pieces of the Greenrock puzzle get laid out pretty quickly within the first few chapters, but it’s up to you to work out where the edges are and fill in the blanks as you go along. I had my hunches on this but I did not pick the intricacies of the deception and layering of plot pieces. It was stunning!

Roman is like this dark and mysterious badboy with green glowing eyes that you just fall into. His emerald hues just ensnared me straight up and I needed to know what he was and how this was all connected. By the lighthouse scene I was trying to work out how to summon my own version.
Blaire is a sweet and innocent yet feisty and fierce FMC. She was a great match for Roman.
The side piece characters in this were great. Lots of depth which you don’t often get with side pieces. I really enjoyed their banter and the history they all shared.

Spice is nice. A bit of primal kiss chasey action never did anyone any harm. The combination of elements in the spice is delicious and left me wanting more to be honest.

I’m super invested in this series now and I can’t wait to find out more about Jack and his journey! Great read!

Blaire and Jack have been best friends since they were babies. It’s their last year together before they both go off to college and their families have insisted that they spend the summer together at Greenrock, an isolated, slow coastal town.

Blaire feels that something feels off, for all their parents insistence on them going to Greenrock, they’ve barely seen their parents and Blaire and Jack are pretty much left alone to enjoy their last summer together.

Blaire bumps into Roman, the hottest guy she has every seen with the most intense green eyes. She can’t get him off her mind, but every time she sees him, he is rude and arrogant and insists she stays away.

Roman hasn’t been to Greenrock in years, but this year he feels compelled to visit. When he meets Blaire he can’t shake his desire for her, but he knows that his craving for her could potentially be deathly for her, but something about her keeps drawing him back.

But as Roman soon discovers he is not the only one with a huge secret, Blaire and Jack also have a secret, they just haven’t discovered it yet.

This book started a little slow for me and was a little confusing at the beginning, but then it just kicked off and everything feel into place and I just flew through the rest of the book. I am not a huge reader of paranormal romance but by the end of the book I was hooked.

Shut up! This book was amazing! I think this is my favourite Layla Pine Book ever I haven’t been ABSOLUTELY CONSUMED by a book like this in ages.

It had everything I could have wanted and dreamed of in a Paranormal Romance!
I love the plot, the story is so unique and amazing it had me chewing through the book so fast, I just couldn’t put it down!
I absolutely LOOOOVE Roman, he’s mysterious and brooding and all things swoon worthy I love him! He’s such a protector and I do love a good healthy dose of jealousy too 😂
Blaire is so funny, relatable and such a badass!

If you like fated mates, “mine”, possessive MMC, mystery, “vampires and shifters”, dirty talking MMC, touch her and die, human girl meets mysterious stranger, spice, hidden secrets, secret government organisations, slow burn and more you will chew this right up so freaking fast!

Honestly this plot and uniquely twist on shifters and “vampires” was so insanely good. It had me guessing from the very beginning of the book. Knowing that things were happening in the background and seeing hidden secrets throughout the whole thing and then how it all came to light was INSANE!

Layla you have put done your self I cannot wait for the next one to hit my kindle in release day! Can’t wait to know how the rest of this story goes and follow along Jacks journey!

Why did I feel like a deer being stalked by a wolf? Why did I suddenly want to get caught? - Blaire

My first Layla Pine book and it was so good, I struggled to put it down. This paranormal romance is a like a new-age take on vampires and shifters, with a storyline that had me going “OMG” and “WTF is happening” literally every 5 minutes. I had so many questions that were mostly answered throughout the storyline thankfully.
I love Blaire and Roman - their chemistry was off the charts and the bond once they “joined”… hot AF ❤️‍🔥
I really loved the story and the mystery of who’s who, what’s what and why is this all happening. The twists and turns were so well done but that ending! It left me with so many more questions than answers lol lucky there is a sequel!!
I’m excited to get into book two to see what happens with Jack (that poor guy suffered so much, I hope he gets a happy ending) and to learn more about this world and the characters in it.
Plus, knowing that book 3 is being worked on, that’s even more exciting!!

first thoughts
finally. a fresh paranormal storyline cut with a thrillers edge....&growly alpha possessiveness that remained consistantly throughout & 18+spice. Has the usual Dark paranormal rigour - but chk tws& cws - if your not familar with modern darker PNR&Fantasy elements.

Page Turner Hooks:
🪨I enjoyed the suspense in the mystery revealing & not knowing as each page turned what was going on....clever clever clever supported by simply refreshing elements especially with the addition of attactive new PNR concepts.

🪨whilst there are other players in this storyline Layla deftly doesnt lose sight and continues to deliver on the main characters intensity.

🪨Striking writing in the Raw supernatural Maleness in lead Paranormal character Roman(dangerously pantherlike).Everytime it was his POV,HIS BEAST,his voice came in loud and strong everytime Roman appeared in another POV he simply stood out.

🪨Roman was crafted to be that delicious, difficult alphahole... he spoke and acted as he should not being grafted into character speaking and saying what a female wants to hear, Layla did not make that mistake - I will reread her books for that very reason.
-Blaire Human delectable & daring - open minded and questioning.... but still hopeful.
- kickass friendships
- Jack has that SNAG vibe for now ( nice guys finish last... lets see if he comes back leaning morally gray - or just his affable self- theres nothing more attractive than a "better man than that" read too! bring on book 2 )
- I am so in love "Ellis" (has a touch of Claudia from Lestat vibes... but nicer edgy, cooler but a hilarious pragmatic dangerous smartarse )

🪨Mystery vibe is awesome

🪨Worldbuilding Secret world, similar paranormal concepts reawakened and turned on its head.

🪨Humour loads and spades of it

🌮🌯🌶💣💥yes sexual tension to explosive Spice,Spicy,Spicer.

Layla Pine is a literary god and I cannot put into words how much I loved this book.
Reading this reminded me why I love books and stories so damn much. The entire way through I was hooked and I loved that it wasn't completely predictable. It is such an original story line, I never felt like I had read something similar previously, which is a huge achievement when I have read so many books, most blending into each other with similar plots and character development.
Greenrock is well-paced, exciting, sexy, thrilling, AND gorgeously written.
I highly HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

Greenrock is a paranormal romance with a mouth-watering vampire MMC. It's got smut, multiple POVs and a fated mates trope, what more could you want?!

What a ride

Omg the first part of this book was a little slow but I get that with world building and character building but hot damn the last half was super hard to put down. The chemistry between Blair and Roman woah of the charts. The banter between Jack and Blair was hillarious and sweet and kinda sad because of his feelings. It was just action packed and exciting to get some answers. I need more answers though and I know book two will have some and it’s intriguing me. Lots of spice in the second half of this book. Lots of action and mystery and intrigue. WTF moments. Book two will be loaded for bear.

'Don't talk to strangers.'

You never know who is lurking in the shadows watching and waiting. They might be addicted to Candies, but you seem a little different to them. You smell different and even taste different. What are you? It's a secret that needs to be found out.

Blaire and Jack are headed to Greenrock for their last summer vacation before college starts. But they both didn't know that this last trip was going to be full of secrets, attraction, and action. Who knew a tall dark stranger with green eyes would tip their world upside down and maybe add a little spice along the way.

And that cliffhanger ending! Loved it.
