This was quite sad, on so many levels. I think for the most part the author balances the depth and complexity of emotions Haru goes through rather well. In this volume we got to see more of her true feelings, and beliefs she was suppressing to protect herself. This was certainly a tragic tipping point, and I can only hope she gets her revenge. Frankly I’m kind of hoping she’ll burn this whole damn world down with the demon king.
So far I really like that as a main lead, Haru hasn’t been instantly crafted into some badass fighter. She has strengths but they aren’t obvious, and her role as a sex worker (though an unwitting role) isn’t portrayed as shameful even if people try to make her feel that it is. She’s only trying to survive.
Now I think she’s acknowledged that no matter how many things are working against her it’s time to fight the system that oppresses her and other women, risks be damned.
Of course I don’t think her motivation is that inclusive yet and that’s ok, I like that she’s not falsely portrayed as altruistic. She’s practical, but also afraid and angry.
Hoping the next volume delivers some justice, and our girl gets a win
Haru has put as good a spin as she possibly could on her life as a sex worker in a fantasy world overflowing with sexism and misogyny. She's made friends, she has aspects of her job she enjoys, she has goals she works toward. It's far from ideal, but she's found a groove and is willing to just get along with what she has.
But in this manga adaptation of the penultimate chapter of the original novel, she finds that despite her strong mental armor the cruel men of this world can still hurt her . . .
I've read the novel, so I knew what was coming, and still it hurts -- even more than the first time.
But I also know what comes next . . . and I now have the expectation that the finale is also going to hit harder the second time around.
This volume is brutal, honestly. I keep saying each one is my favourite because they keep getting better but this one is definitely pulling my heart strings and takes more of a sad tone to this. Nonetheless it’s amazing.
Little Haru really defies the odds, keeps prioritising her needs, decides she wants to stick to the job she has and fight the relentless misogyny and awful men in this world in a bid for women to be seen and heard. Haru is still finding her strengths and is a stoic character with a lot of fight.
For reasons I won’t spoil, this volume had me in a chokehold, really distressing and tragic.
The art work is honestly stunning, absolutely gorgeous.
rough volume. haru's resilience and selflessness really shines through here. shaquraso's fate is so damn sad....I have no idea what's going to happen next but I am scared for haru!!

This is becoming a very sad series. The story is good, though some might say disturbing, and the artwork continues to be amazing. All I can say is I hope she has her revenge in the end.
Wow! Didn’t see that coming and that end! This manga is the epitome of flying under the radar classic. How it’s not talked about more is mind-boggling. And can we talk about the artwork? Stunning!
Showcasing just how fucking shitty humanity can be. This was a tough read. Especially when getting to know everyone. I really hope in the next volume we get some revenge.
