Things are about to get seriously spooky for Alex Neptune in his fourth action-packed adventure - perfect for fans of Percy Jackson and Dragon Realm!
When an ominous sea fog rolls in to Haven Bay, Alex, Zoey and Anil are ambushed by mysterious crab-legged creatures, searching for the glowing skull of the notorious pirate Brineblood.
Escaping to crumbling Argosy Manor with the skull, the friends must enter three magically trapped and deadly dangerous bottled worlds, to retrieve the prongs of a powerful trident that can stop Brineblood's zombie army. All they have to do is face a cataclysmic eruption, a flood of evil and a forsaken town - while trying not to die horribly. Oh, and if they fail Brineblood will rise from the dead...
David resents the fact that he was not raised by wolves and was therefore robbed of a good story to tell at parties. He turned to fiction to compensate for his unremarkable existence.
He achieved 1st class honours in BA Creative Writing and MA Writing for Children at The University of Winchester, where he went on to teach on the BA Creative Writing course for three years. He hopes that one day all of his students will surpass his own achievements.
David’s debut YA novel, Panther, will be published by Constable & Robinson on their Corsair imprint in May 2015. Panther is a funny, touching, and occasionally unsettling coming-of-age story, which deals candidly with the stigmas and misunderstandings surrounding depression.
David has also worked as an award-shortlisted freelance games journalist and has been published as a poet.
With Zoey and Anil having been gifted water magic Alex is no longer alone but instead finds himself in the role of teacher, while he is still coming to terms with the power himself.
But there is not much time for lessons when a mysterious fog and the mysterious clicking noise it contains rolls over Haven Bay and the safety of the town is once again threatened.
The zombie crabs are after Brineblood’s skull and after previously deciding that Argosy was not trustworthy enough to hold onto the skull his house is a last refuge to keep it from a greater evil.
Faced with a frozen water dragon it is up to the three fledgling magic holders to locate three trident prongs that when reunited would have the power to save them all.
What follows is a portal adventure and treasure hunt featuring volcanos, floods, penguins, monsters and some people who may not be what they seem.
The loss of the water dragon to icecubeness in this one drives Alex, Zoey and Anil to work together and learn from each other to achieve their goals.
As with the other books I really enjoy how the kids aren’t completely on their own with this and benefit from ongoing help from family and a variety of sea creatures. Alex’s Grandpa and sister Bridget are also excellent human characters to have along for the ride.
This is such an enjoyable series. Fast paced and action packed with an undercurrent of climate change/protect our oceans messaging that weaves into the plot smoothly.
Zombie Fighter’s ending has set - 2025 release Dragon Champion - up to be an epic concluding battle to a very fun series and is a book I will definitely be on my anticipated reads list for next year.
Was great to be back in the world of Haven Bay with Alex, Zoey and Anil and their amazing growing band of misfit found family. Although this is book 4 in the series it isn't necessary to have read the others and you're caught up on any plot you've missed, so although the series is great this can stand alone. I'd agree with the age range of 9-12 as there were parts of the book where I was on the edge of my seat. I raced through this book and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed this! This series is great and this is a worthy addition to it! I loved the worlds caught in the bottles concept and the quest to go get the bits of trident back… I really enjoy how it all ties back to same baddies in different ways. Also… the friendship and the magic in these books is just lush.

All of the children enjoy the Alex Neptune series and this one is a great one to add to our family library. The books are exciting and just a bit scary ( not nightmare fodder thankfully). Keep up the good work David Owen, we need more Alex Neptune books.
I loved this one! It was creepy, funny, exciting, and it had a new take on time travel that I've not read before. I loved the idea of specific moments in time being trapped inside bottles. I love the magic and the supernatural elements, always with an underlying environmental message. It was a brilliant read! Thank you for the ARC!
Owen takes us on a pacey ride with Alex Neptune and his gang, as they race against the clock to destroy Brineblood and his zombies.
It's the fourth book in the action packed series, but is easily read as a standalone.
It's exciting, fun and there are some surprising elements that were just brilliant. When it comes to world building and the unexpected - bottles worlds, time travel - Owen is genius & I love his writing style, and his imagination!
It's enjoyable, entertaining and definitely recommendable
