Grant saved Elliot in the locker room from an assault, and everything screams in him to protect the boy.
Grant tried to suppress his dominant, alpha male instinct. He had a boy once and failed as a Daddy, it broke his heart and spirit. He just can’t with Elliott, also he’s twenty years his age. Luckily Elliot isn’t his student at the university.
The boy is a ballet dancer and it shows, he has a divine body. But he looks miserable, he’s broke and needs care.
Elliott is only eighteen years old, lonely and alone, taking care of himself after his father died two years ago. It’s almost impossible. What would he give to have a guy like Grant take care of him. After Grant saved him he gives him a ride every day. The man is just delicious and far out of his league. He yearns for his attention and wants so much more.
But circumstances bring them together where Grant takes Elliot home.

Some nasty things are happening around them and in between, they try to strengthen their relationship. Elliot is innocent and inexperienced, Grant is a sweet patient Daddy. With both their issues, it still isn’t easy. But they are strong as is their connection. Some sweet, hot scenes are built, it’s one big learning process, hot af!
A widely written narrative, with a slow buildup, for me at times a bit too, that’s on me, I was impatient.
Both men were sweet, vulnerable, and flawed. It made them genuinely.
The writing style was appealing. The story was captivating.
There was a wonderful Daddy/boy dynamic, which ends with an HFN there will be a continuation! Looking forward!

I read this in one sitting - could not stop reading about Elliot and Grant and how perfect they are for each other.
Elliot is 18 and is a struggling dancer - he loves ballet and has a promising career, but he's also juggling a stressful job, a crappy living situation, major financial issues (some of which I don't know if I get, since it's credit card debt from his father and that's not how it worked for me? But anyway), and loneliness. He's had to grow up quick to make it on his own. Also! It's never flat out stated - but I totally feel like Elliot is demisexual. The way he describes his interest in people up to Grant just screamed demi to me. (Honestly, I wish authors would USE these terms to help educate readers that it's not just gay vs straight. Anyway - off my soap box lol)
Grant is a college professor on the track for tenure, although he was a high school teacher - where he taught Elliot. He starts helping him when they reconnect at a gym, and is dealing with his own baggage.
These two could not be more perfect for each other. Grant is the perfect daddy and Elliot is a sweet, submissive boy, and the two just really shine with they are together. It's a bit of a slow burn, because Grant wants to make sure there is plenty of consent and his maturity and experience aren't translating into taking advantage, which I really appreciate.
I think this is the first book from this author, and it was a very very solid read for me. I'd probably give it more like 4.5 stars just because some things did seem a bit worded and longwinded, and could have been culled down to just a bit tighter, shorter writing.
The second book in the duology comes out in June and I can't wait for it! This author will definitely be on my radar!

I received an ARC of Finding His Boy by KD Ryan in return for an honest review.
When I first started reading Finding His Boy I thought that I was going to struggle with the book but this quickly proved to not be the case. I thought the first chapter was a little too wordy and, even though we were looking at the same scene through the eyes of two different characters, I felt that we weren’t given enough new insight to warrant this way of writing. However, my feelings quickly changed as I was drawn into the story.
The story is told from the viewpoints of Elliot and Grant. Elliot is young, an aspiring ballet dancer, and heavily in debt through no fault of his own. He had been lovingly raised by his police officer father who died suddenly when Elliot was only 16.
Grant had been Elliot’s teacher at high school and has since become a university lecturer. Elliot does not attend university and only uses their facilities as he can’t afford much else.
When Elliot is attacked at the gym it is Grant who saves him and this is the start of their relationship.
Grant wants to be a daddy and Elliot needs to be taken care of. There are many obstacles though which need to be dealt with before these two can get on to their happily ever afters.
The book is well written although that writing could have been a little tighter. Sometimes I thought that it wavered between fair and good but usually I would describe the writing as good.
This is part one of a two part series and I will definitely be reading part two when it is published.

The book started really great and I enjoyed reading it, couldn't put it down. But after a couple of chapters I got bored - everything was described so long, for pages even. The story was struck in time and we got pages filled with past events, how and why is the way it is right now. It was so boring, when I only wanted them to do something, I got pages to read about their past and feelings. The book biggest problem; it's over written. It could be more enjoable without those boring pages.
The storyline is really slow (even without the boring monologues), but I liked how Grant and Elliot got closer to each other day after day. I thought it would be a real teacher/student book, but Grant was just a former teacher of Elliot's.
The Daddy/boy relationship was good, but light. Elliot was really in a need of a Daddy but I couldn't see in Grant the caring for a boy and I couldn't imagine him as a Daddy either. Anyway, they were perfect for each other.
I missed more romance(don't know what is with the books I read recently, but less and less romance are in the books), and it was really slow burn book. I thought they would't get into bad at all, and the only thing I saw is the book is almost at the end and nothing happened between them.

Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. Grant treded the university gym but what was he to do with a busted treadmill that was getting repaired. When a plea came from the showering room, Grant leaps to help the younger man. Students was off limits only He was former student, Elliot only now he was no longer in that category. When a mixed up rumor starts about the attack, can Grant fix it in time? Both have an urge that they fear is to dark to reveal but will those same things hold them apart.
I mean I can see why Elliot had a freak out but Grant instead of just talking with Elliot, Grant was a club bathroom talking with a complete stranger and what was the odds? it was freaking hilarious the whole scenes at the store with Matilda (sex toy grandma)

Elliot is a young lad in need. He needs both financial, and emotional support, and is still processing the grief surrounding his real father's early passing.
Grant had been Elliot’s teacher in high school, and has since become a college professor. Elliot never even got his GED, but has started working in the school's warehouse unit, in order to supplement his meager earnings as a troop member in the local ballet. Though Elliot does not attend university, his job allows him to use their gym & pool facilities. When Grant rescues Elliot from a sexual assault in the university showers, the two cross the m/m event horizon. Neither can control it, they are just drawn toward each other.
There is an element of fantasy fulfillment in age gap tales that I, as an aging gay man, can easily understand. But this book also showed some glimmerings of what might motivate a younger guy into being interested in a daddy-boy relationship. In some ways, I guess, I was extraordinarily lucky growing up. My dad worked long hours but there were never any doubts that he'd not rather be spending time with me and my brothers. Having always had a father figure when I most needed it, I'll never fully appreciate the need for a “daddy” that some men feel throughout their lives. This tale gives those who might not understand it, a peek behind that curtain.
First-time author K. D. Ryan does a wonderful job of reflecting the points of view of both main characters, making this a bit more than just fantasy fulfillment. But the presence of a plot here doesn't preclude some very erotic sex scenes. This is the portrait of a loving daddy-boy relationship – with some elements of dominance and submission and an emphasis on edging. It includes a wide range of erotic firsts for the initially virginal Elliot, and the duo's bedroom activities grow increasingly more intimate as their relationship grows. The sex is not only consensual but contextual. It's clearly not a Tom of Finland style fantasy read.
I can highly recommend this to anyone who's a bit curious about the whole Daddy-Boy dynamic. It does a good job of showing us how and why some folks would find that appealing, and is even hot for those of us less enamored of that particular bent. It's an engaging read, with likable characters who are easy to come to care about. It's sexy hot in spots and laugh out loud funny in others. I think I'll have to award at least one extra heart just for the character of “Sex Toy Expert Grandma” alone. Plus, Elliot's chagrin after trying to use the product “Granny” recommended actually triggered some pleasant memories of adolescence for me. The whole joy of discovering I was beginning to have a man's body and the freedom to enjoy it was both liberating and a bit scary.
If half stars were permitted here at GoodReads this would be a solid 4 1/2 star book.

When his highschool teacher became his knight and shining armor in a terrible moment, Grant know consumed his every thought.
Grant knew he should stay away from his ex student Elliott but he just couldn't. Everything in his body wanted to protect and take care of the boy. The obstacles that had were more than any couple should have to bear, buy could it be worth it?
I loved this read. Grant and Elliott were adorable together. Grant's past of getting hurt closed him off to do much and it was enjoyable to see he could live the life he wanted so much again.

Poor Elliott. He’s worked so very hard to keep it together. He’s stepped up and done what was necessary. Grant has been just going through the motions, too afraid of getting hurt again.
The dynamic of these two was different from the beginning. It started off with Grant in the protector/caregiver mode. The things he was willing to do to support Elliott were wonderful. Elliott went the extra mile, too. The fact that they both realized the implications of a relationship such as theirs was great, too.
Another great read!

Finding His Boy is the first book in a duet in the Safe Harbor series by K.D. Ryan. It's the first part of the story of Grant and Elliot. This story is about a Daddy finding his Boy and has a 20 year age gap. I loved their story. It was sweet, sexy, hot, fun and very well written. Can't wait for the second part of their story.

Elliott and Grant take you on a heroic and emotional ride. One needs saving from circumstance and the other needs saving from his past. From the beginning you can feel the loneliness each man is experiencing and begin cheering them on to finally take the step to be together.
As an age gap romance there is always that push and pull of ‘how will others see us, should we do this and is this healthy for us emotionally’. This book has a very short struggle as both men seem to be in sync with each other’s desires and kinks.
Wonderful descriptions of the world they are living in flesh out the story and plot letting the reader feel they are right there with the characters experiencing the plot lines. Very believable characters who make you wish they were real people.
This is pretty low on the angst scale with only a few teary moments. I do want to point out if sexual assault is a trigger this may not be for you as attempted assault comes up in several places in the story.
Some of the plot lines end too quickly and you may feel like there is more to the story, which will probably be covered in a sequel or told from a different characters point of view in their book.
Definitely worth the read if you are looking for a lower angst book that puts two lonely people together as only a daddy and boy can be.

I have read a lot of Daddy books, all over the spectrum of the trope. I also read A LOT of age gap. If the younger one is a new adult, the writing has to be done so well that it doesn’t feel icky. We know they are technically an adult and consent is there, but if the character is immature and there is language surrounding the the relationship/kink that’s almost infantile (and not in an age regression way), it can get squicky. I read a lot of taboo and new adult, but this book made me uncomfortable. I was excited after reading the blurb and it started out well, but it spiraled into poor editing, one dimensional characters, and a borderline ooky relationship. And the internal dialogue detracted from the rest of the relationship and story development as well. This was just a big miss for me.

Former high school Language Arts teacher turned professor, Grant, has to use the student gym showers if he wants to make it to his class on time after a workout…. Hoping to hurry through a quick shower, his plans are thwarted when he runs into someone dangerously close to being sexually assaulted in the showers, he never dreamed it would be two former students that he taught in highschool.
Elliot’s been trying to ignore the dumb jock that been creepin on him at the gym, but sometimes ignorance is bliss, right? Until it isn’t.
On his own since he was 16, Elliot is just doing the best he can to survive until he gains a little bit more experience on stage and can be free from the debt his father left having unexpectedly passing away when Elliot was a teenager.
I have to say, I loved Elliot. Yes, he was immature at times, but he’s 18, what do you expect? He’s also very sweet, stronger than anyone gives him credit for and his shy innocence is only half the reason Grant feels so attracted to him.
It’s a slow burn type of read, where both men go slow, even though their attraction for each other is immediate and page-scortching. Grant having been burnt by a younger man once before and Elliot just not knowing how to navigate a relationship because he’d never been in one before….but it was sweet and real and well worth the wait, especially when we get to Grants kink and how effortlessly Elliot falls into it.
I did spend half the book wondering why this assaulter seemed to get away with what he did and intended to do in the showers, but fear not… the bad guy does not get away with being a bad guy, although I do wish we’d have gotten to see those consequences!
Overall though, once I picked this book up, I did not put it down. I enjoyed watching these two navigate a new relationship and work through such normal and everyday problems, as well as some pretty heavy stuff that they worked out together. I feel like there was a few things I would’ve liked to have been resolved, like what was going on with Grants brother? Does he ever come around? What about Elliot’s dad’s lawyer stuff? Something seemed way fishy about that. Will Aerick and Kyle get a story? I’d be intrigued by that…. Will Elliot meet Grant’s family? I feel like his mom could love Elliot and give him the mom he never had…
So, okay… I wouldn’t mind another book or two about these two, or really anyone (aside from creepy shower guy, unless his is from prison and we get to see all the terrible, awful things that happen to people who do what shower guy tried to do)…
It’s a great read and if you like slow burns with dirty talking Daddy’s and shy, sweet, innocent boys… well, this one is definitely for you. I’ll be (im)patiently waiting to see who’s next!

Elliot’s been trying to ignore the dumb jock that been creepin on him at the gym, but sometimes ignorance is bliss, right? Until it isn’t.
On his own since he was 16, Elliot is just doing the best he can to survive until he gains a little bit more experience on stage and can be free from the debt his father left having unexpectedly passing away when Elliot was a teenager.
I have to say, I loved Elliot. Yes, he was immature at times, but he’s 18, what do you expect? He’s also very sweet, stronger than anyone gives him credit for and his shy innocence is only half the reason Grant feels so attracted to him.
It’s a slow burn type of read, where both men go slow, even though their attraction for each other is immediate and page-scortching. Grant having been burnt by a younger man once before and Elliot just not knowing how to navigate a relationship because he’d never been in one before….but it was sweet and real and well worth the wait, especially when we get to Grants kink and how effortlessly Elliot falls into it.
I did spend half the book wondering why this assaulter seemed to get away with what he did and intended to do in the showers, but fear not… the bad guy does not get away with being a bad guy, although I do wish we’d have gotten to see those consequences!
Overall though, once I picked this book up, I did not put it down. I enjoyed watching these two navigate a new relationship and work through such normal and everyday problems, as well as some pretty heavy stuff that they worked out together. I feel like there was a few things I would’ve liked to have been resolved, like what was going on with Grants brother? Does he ever come around? What about Elliot’s dad’s lawyer stuff? Something seemed way fishy about that. Will Aerick and Kyle get a story? I’d be intrigued by that…. Will Elliot meet Grant’s family? I feel like his mom could love Elliot and give him the mom he never had…
So, okay… I wouldn’t mind another book or two about these two, or really anyone (aside from creepy shower guy, unless his is from prison and we get to see all the terrible, awful things that happen to people who do what shower guy tried to do)…
It’s a great read and if you like slow burns with dirty talking Daddy’s and shy, sweet, innocent boys… well, this one is definitely for you. I’ll be (im)patiently waiting to see who’s next!

Finding His Boy is only part one of the Safe Harbor series.
What made me want to pick up this story in the first place was a combination of curiosity to see how it would handle the age gap between the main characters, as well as interest in reading about a character who is a male ballet dancer. I’m happy to say that the age gap between Grant and Elliot is handled well. It’s not ignored in the typical “age is just a number” excuse and is also handled in a mature way. The characters recognize that this could be an obstacle in their relationship and take time to discus how to handle it. As for the male ballet dancer, my only complaint is that I would love to see more. It’s a very interesting aspect of Elliot’s life, but takes a secondary role in the story. This is a romance story, first and foremost, so the relationship between Grant and Elliot takes center stage. As a reader, if the only complain I can come up with is that “I want more” then the story is a success.
Most importantly, the chemistry between Grant and Elliot is genuine. Often when romantic characters have an age gap, there doesn’t seem to be anything drawing them together other than physical attraction. At first, I was afraid this story would follow the same pattern when Grant and Elliot first met and had an immediate physical attraction from the moment they saw each other. However, Grant and Elliot do not jump into a physical relationship right away. They take time to make sure they are on the same page with what they want from a relationship, and spend time together just enjoying each other’s company. This allows their relationship to grow naturally and gives the reader insight into what attracts them to each other than just physical appeal.
When starting this story, readers should be aware that this is the first book in a series, and it is written as such. It reads more as a ‘part one’ than a standalone story. Finding His Boy does exactly as the title says. It is a story about Grant and Elliot meeting and starting their relationship. There are some self-contained obstacles that are handled relatively quickly by the end of the book. However, there are other larger obstacles that aren’t solved by the end, such as the disapproval of family and the differences in their careers, that I assume will come up in future stories. It is a good start to a series, with plenty of promise, and I look forward to seeing what comes next.

This looks to be a debut novel and color me impressed. Please note that this is a 2 part series, so this book ends in a HFN, and picks up in the next book. I, for one, love that. The longer the better. I love being submersed in a new universe and love story.
What I loved about this book:
1. It felt natural. This wasn't some contrived, insta love, story. The two MC have a shared history. Grant and Elliot reconnect in the showers of the gym after Elliot's encounter with Tanner. Grant's natural Daddy side emerges as his "alpha" wanted to ensure that Elliot stayed safe. Both are attracted to the other, but harbor misgivings.
2. Elliot's not a doormat. I can't count how many Daddy/boy books I've read where the submissive just follows the Daddy's lead automatically. I love how Elliot submits, but also fights for his independence in the beginning. He stands up for what he wants and doesn't allow Grant to just completely take over without his consent.
3. Their vulnerability. I love how the author portrays the hurt both men have suffered and how they are re-building their lives. I really connected to Elliot as someone who was basically on their on at 18 working and trying to keep their head above water. I appreciate how Grant shares his interaction at the club with Elliot and the scene confessing their love was so sweet.
4. The scenes were realistic. Elliot's a virgin and I appreciate that Grant didn't just take him in a moment of passion. I hate when authors don't write realistic scenes. Grant buys plugs to help Elliot work up to taking him, there's plenty of prep and lead up to the big event.
5. The power exchange. Once again, the author did a good job of conveying the power exchange between the two.
What I didn't like about the book.
I have to admit that I enjoyed most of it. I will say that I was a bit on the fence about the age gap with Elliot being 18, but I think it was handled really well.
I really enjoyed this book and I'm glad that I discovered this series after both books were published.

Elliot's life hasn't been easy. He had to grow up way earlier than his peers. He was pursuing his dream job as a professional ballet dancer and he was struggling to keep his head above water. When his high school teacher became his knight in shining armor in a terrible moment, Grant now consumed his every thought.
Grant knew he should stay away from his ex-student, Elliot, but he just couldn't. Everything in his body wanted to protect and take care of the boy. The obstacles they had were more than any couple should have to bear, but could it be worth it?
I loved this read. Grant and Elliot were adorable together. Grant's past of getting hurt closed him off to too much and it was enjoyable to see he could live the life he wanted so much again.

This is a great start to a new series with interesting characters and an intriguing storyline. Elliot and Grant are at very different places in their lives but they do have a strong connection and smoking hot chemistry. Grant is still allowing events from his past to stop him from seeking out a boy to love and Elliot has been struggling for two years since the death of his dad. The very large age gap between them causes a bit of angst for Grant and he will have to decide if the opinions of others is more important than his feeling for Elliot. They also have to deal with a few other issues as they slowly begin their relationship as well as learning if their wants and needs in the bedroom will line up. I really like that Grant is so careful and caring with Elliot as he introduces him to a Daddy/boy dynamic and that Elliot is so sweet and very mature for his age. There are a few hilarious moments in this story that I loved and the secondary characters are great. I do wish that the ending was less abrupt but hopefully all of the unanswered questions will be dealt with in the next book.

What I Loved: The premise sounded right up my alley. And Elliot, he was all kinds of adorbs.
What I Liked: Kyle, Elliot's friend, was a great friend to Elliot. I liked Grant, but it took me way too long to warm up to him. He was very arrogant at first and I found it unappealing. He did get better, but I wasn't completely sold on the whole Daddy/boy scenario, maybe because it took so long for them to actually get together.
What I Didn't Like: Okay, so the book was long, but it felt longer for me because of all the descriptions and how much time we spend in Grant and Elliot's head. There was way too much introspection/backstory and not enough relationship/character development and I found myself skimming through some scenes just to get to what I really wanted to read, Grant and Elliot's love story.
Overall, it was an okay read. It was well-written, but it was too wordy for my taste. That doesn't mean that others might not love it, it just wasn't a good fit for me. *shrugs*

I really, really felt the stress Elliot was under at the beginning of this book and how scary it was for him to be out there all on his own with no one to lean on. He was working himself to death trying to hold on to his dream of ballet all the while working the warehouse job to keep some food on the table and not be living on the streets and my nerves got strung tight reading about him. It was a huge relief when Grant showed up and was there for him, but there were also the things Grant was dealing with and his reluctance to fully commit to what they both needed and wanted. The title of the series is just perfect here. These two do find a "safe harbor" with each other and the angst level getting to that was just perfect for me, not dark and heavy but emotionally complicated. Can't wait for more in the series and I hope they hit this same tone.

Finding His Boy is a great start to the Safe Harbour series. It’s not a stand-alone though since it’s more part one of an ongoing story. This one is exactly what the title states; it’s about Elliot and Grant meeting and working through a number of obstacles as they begin their relationship. Firstly, there is the age gap issue, which I’m pleased to say is handled maturely as the characters actually communicate about what it could mean in their relationship. It also deals with Grant’s struggles about his past and his fears that it will happen again. Some smaller issues are resolved by the end to give a solid HEA, and there remain a few bigger ones that we’ll need the next book to see how they turn out. I can’t wait to finish their story!

This was a new author for me and I would definitely read again. I did enjoy the story but I found at times it was quite slow in the build up and even when they did finally get their act together it was still a bit slow to get anywhere.
Grant has had his heart broken by his previous boy to the point that he never wants another but when he sees Elliot his previous student in a difficult situation he can’t help but step in.
Elliot is young man with an old soul. He has had it hard for the last 2 years and just wants someone to take care of him. He knows that some one is grant. Now he just has to get grant to see him as something as other than a kid.
There is a few obstacles thrown at them along the way but it’s an enjoyable read and if you like slow burn this is the one for you.

Ever read a book that just grabs you from the first page and won't let you go? Finding His Boy had me losing track of time all weekend. It was so interesting to read about these two men exploring the pull toward each other and discovering that they had the same kink in common. The respectful open dialogue had me cheering at points and there were quite a few parts that had me laughing out loud. With some smoking hot scenes, excellent character development and perfect pacing; this book held me enthralled from beginning to end. I am really looking forward to more books from this up and coming author!

I loved Grant and Elliot. Their relationship has this forbidden element, but that’s what makes it so exciting.
Elliot is such a sweet boy, but he suffered so much. He had to grow fast, missing so much as a child, but that’s what makes him who he is. And then Grant happened. He carries pain of his own too, and I think that’s why he connected so well with Elliot and feels the need to care for him and protect him.
Their chemistry is undeniable and they are so damn cute together, I loved them.
Their journey was a rocky one, but everything that’s worth is never easy. I can’t wait to read more of this author’s work 💗

Sweet
Really liked the story of Elliot and Grant. Poor Elliot has been all alone and shouldering through heavy stuff without any support. Grant has been equally alone after being hurt and betrayed in a previous relationship 10 years ago. There is a 20 year age gap but they just draw each other into their orbit. So very hot scenes. I’m glad Elliot stood up for himself with both grant at being steamrolled and against Tanner. Yayy. Honestly thought there would be a confrontation with Aarek but there wasn’t.

It would be great and will be a fantastic read if only this story is less than 300 pages *sigh* Too much inner monologue and naration to describe things. After reading first few chapters, I ended up skimming until the end eventhough the sex scene is flaming HOT!

Holy moly, this was good! I seriously loved Grant and Elliot. Elliot has had a tough go at life, but he’s persisted and gotten through what life has thrown at him. Grant is a Daddy but suppresses that side of himself. Both men have issues. The story did leave on a HFN but I cannot wait to read more, sooo good. I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received.
