B. Joyce has managed to write a complex, empowering and emotional novel once again. In this second book in the series we get to know the characters on an even deeper level while each of them stay unique to themselves. The theme of finding yourself still going strong but add in the idea of soulmates which adds an extra layer to it all. It's truly a delight to get to know the cast better, to read and live with them through their hardships old and new.
The worldbuilding also continued to be top-notch. Our knowledge on the magic system is getting expanded. It has been woven naturally throughout the story line which I think takes a lot of craft and dedication to do. And the continued sensitive topics in this series are treated sincere and with care.

I'm looking forward to all that is coming in the future for these characters and B.Joyce's books.

I really loved the first book in this series so when the author contacted me to review her second book I jumped at the chance.
I LOVE these characters. They are flawed and relatable, far from perfect people and grow so much in this book. I saw myself in each of them and practically every chapters had me in tears. The Main characters deal with so much in this book. This book like the last book had multiple points of view which kept the story moving along. I appreciate a love interest that doesn’t try to fix his partners problem like Lance learns to do, reminds me of Kristoff in Frozen 2. Rin’s friendship with Eloite and Johanna grows, stretches and deepens, the kind of support Rin longs for. I feel like this book wrapped up nicely (no major cliff hanger) but I wonder if there’s more to explore.

Wow, what an amazing sequel. B. Joyce draws you into the world's of her characters. I feel like I was able to grow in understanding of them while they grew in understanding of themselves. An absolute page turner.

a story of growth and learning oneself

Although I did not agree with everything presented in this story, I adored it. There is such a strong focus on mental health and growing into what one is meant to be — and this is shown in fantastical ways as well as through the depiction of difficult realizations and conversations. The super abilities, the enhancements and uses of essence, are vividly described and so well complement these themes of healing and growth (I mean, that ending…). At the same time, the author does not shy away from difficult themes — certain family members! certain romances! — in breaking hearts in order to show the characters’ development as people. Even the worldbuilding, with the energies and the worlds beyond death, is complementary.

As a whole… this story is amazing. I might disagree, but I can find no flaws. Even the cursing works. This book is a MASTERPIECE, and it needs to be read.

SOUL TETHER is a fantastic follow up to B. Joyce's debut YA Science Fantasy novel, MOON BEETLES. In it, we dive deeper into Rin's character and the past trauma that has lead to her current circumstances. Her relationship with her mother, father, and brother--via flashbacks--is heart-wrenching, and we truly begin to understand the depth of her pain as she attempts to forge new friendships and relationships with Eliote, Johanna, Lance and others.

As with in MOON BEETLES, the action scenes kept me on the edge of my seat and the emotional play between the characters is tense and believable without feeling like typical teenage angst. These characters each have real issues at stake, complex relationships with their families, conflicts between who others expect them to be and who they want/need to be.

This second novel really brings the themes of book one into the forefront and explores them in depth, and I loved the added layers we got to see with each of the POV characters. I especially loved the inclusion of queer and ace characters, the complex nature of the antagonists, and the sophistication of the world-building where there are no easy answers and characters must explore "grey areas" in their own motives and the outcomes of their decisions.

Fantastic work, and I'm looking forward to the next one!

B. Joyce writes Soul Tether with raw vulnerability. Each Character becomes more real and deeper as their story's unfold and intertwine into the big picture.

I loved reading how each one heals and begin to trive. I've fallen in love with the main character and her capacity to love and protect others even as she is still finding herself working through her own pain.

B. Joyce writes with such clarity that you feel the story. Not just the characters, thoughts and feelings, but she makes you feel the setting and the mood of each scene so you are pulled into their world.

I loved this second book as much or more then the first book, Moon Beetles, and I can not wait for the third. .

Thank you for once again making me laugh, cry, feel, and live again in this world. It may be imagined but it rings true for each of us.

I'm always nervous to read the 2nd book in a series cause their usually hit or miss. This book, definitely a hit! So much drama! I love how much detail B Joyce goes into focusing on depression and anxiety. It makes the book that much more relatable. The characters all experience their own versions of this and are so different because of it but somehow work really well as a team. The emotional connection between Rin and Johanna is so precious. Cant gloat anymore without spoiling but long story short love this book.
