Placeholder for the manga up to chapter 1111
The Egghead Island arc had no business being THIS good but here were are. Kuma's backstory got me balling my eyes out, and now the Gorosei stuff is getting more threatening by the chapter. This really feels like the beginning of One Piece's endgame and I'm stoked to see what surprises Oda still has in store for us.

Are we building up to a new Marineford-type battle here? The build up feels familiar and I'm so into it. Marine forces heading to Egghead? Yes, a million times yes. I want to see Kizaru fall to gear 5, it would be so fun. Would in fact love Marineford 2.0 or Ohara 2.0, however you want to categorize it.
Also this volume gets an automatic 5 stars for Garp alone, because what a guy!
Oda could make the next 10 volumes pure info/backstory/worldbuilding dumps and I would still be in awe every single chapter. Just the fact that he can still build upon so many things from way earlier in the story is amazing.
One Piece could never be long enough for me.

IT'S SUCH A GOOD VOLUME!!! tho i kinda wish the Yamato thing was in the last volume like have them talk it out with the crew or i would have loved it more if it was something like Luffy being worried about Momo and the others an Yamato then decided they'll stay in Wano so Luffy can have some peace of mind.....

Things are heating up on Egghead Island! Dr. Vegapunk – who has more brains than sense or self-restraint – has been looking into the same question of the “void century” that got Robin’s island wiped off the map…while also building weapons for the government! So, really, no one should be surprised that Egghead is now under siege by some of those same weapons…especially since there seems to have been a mole on the inside! (To which Nami’s response is: Oh, we have to evacuate? Whelp, time to rob this place blind!) Though, technically, Vegapunk has a mole of his own inside a key government agency…

My only addition is that makes TOTAL sense for how Vegapunk sees the world and himself! He is very much the kind of man who puts his own intellectual curiosity (and ego!) first, and would tend to label anything associated with the body or emotions as lesser…and feminine. And, like Oppeheimer and some of the other scientists who inspired him, he’s TERRIBLE at thinking through the implications of his research. In describing something that is basically the-internet-you-could-plug-into-your-brain:
“Dr. Vegapunk: If all of humanity could mutually update Punk Records on a regular basis, we could create an entire SEA OF KNOWLEDGE!...One day, humanity will be able to SHARE A BRAIN!...
Jimbei: Won’t you have issues if ideology gets inserted on top of everything else?
Dr. V: …That’s a very smart question to be asking. But science will never advance if you spend all your time worrying about it!”
It is good to see how much influence the Oharan scholars still managed to have, inspiring , and that is still alive! In fact, because of that So it looks like Usopp’s desire to go to that island WILL definitely have to be fulfilled at some point!
I did not particularly want to see Rob Lucci again, given that I hate him for his role in what happened to Robin in Water 7, but he isn’t a particularly interesting villain. But, if he had to show up, Gear 5 Luffy just beating the snot out of him as he’s trying to show off his own awakened devil fruit is a pretty funny way for that to go!
There’s quite an interesting subplot with Grandpa Garp showing up to help Helmeppo rescue our best-boy-marine Koby from Blackbeard. Plus we get confirmation that Princess Vivi is still alive – and find out who she’s with!

EGGHEAD ARC - PART 2

2. i like that it's clear that dragon despises war, but he is willing to fight and sacrifice for what is right, for what the world should be and how people should be treated.
3. i hope that elbaf is going to be an arc that focuses a bit on usopp, too. i know there's been already moments of his overcoming himself and obtaining observation haki in dressrosa, but he's always wanted to become a brave warrior of the sea and visit elbaf, so i do hope something comes out of that. also elbaf is switzerland confirmed
4. saul is alive omfg DERESHISHISHSISHISHISHSI
5. i wanna study medicine under dr. vegapunk T_T all the organ growing and manipulation is soooooo heckin coooool
6. kaku, you can try to be as cool as you want, but i will never forget you try-harding to be cool as a giraffe
7. those futuristic shoes give me a tiny bit of a claustrophobia case, because why do the feet (imagining) feel so squished
8. nami says she doesn't want vegapunk onto the ship because then they would be hunted by cipher pol zero, but they're hunted by cipher pol zero anyways because of robin, so it doesn't make an extra difference? (though i think she means that the world gvt puts extra focus on them (once again))
9. zoro with a turtleneck is the biggest blessing clothing-wise this arc.
10. i am somewhat traumatised that for one, weevil's mother is the ACTUAL buckingham stussy from the rocks pirates (i love that we're getting so many extra information about former crews and stuff, like shakky being the former empress and head of the kuja pirates) and that the real stussy and the clone are so far apart in aesthetic and feeling and everything [shudders]
11. i hate you, oda. stop showing me children getting tortured (kumaaaaaaaa [sobs])
12. i kind of like the eagle news man, because even though i don't trust the news outlets and the news people since they have an own agenda and can decide what to publish and what to omit, how to turn around the words and such, he at the very least defies the wants of the government, bringing out crucial information anyway - also he is protecting vivi (and wapol?) !!!!
13. WE'RE HAVING ANOTHER BETRAYAL SITUATION? also, i LOVE the idea of the temporary alliance, i am so hyped for the collab of them fighting together heheheh
14. edison and chopper are made of the same cloth and i love them both dearly

16. the fight between shanks and kid is going to be fantastic. kid lost an arm to beck, without shanks even being there. i feel like kid is mightily outclassed by shanks, but i am more than excited to see how the fight even goes, how shanks will deal with the devil fruit power and vice versa, how kid deals with the impact of shanks' haki and fighting style. speaking of fighting style: we've never really seen them fight. we've seen shanks' crew squabble a little bit against some no-name bandits, but we've never fully seen them fight, and i am more than excited to see everybody's potential.

Technically I finished this volume a couple weeks ago, but you know how it is with Manga and these platforms. Especially the "collected" editions lol
I can tell you one thing: It sucks being up to date with One Piece. It sucks ass.
Nothing against ass-sucking, no idea, but wow this is annoying.
From what is going on at the moment, I know, it is probably the perfect time to be caught up with the series. But still.
Frustrating is the word I'd use mostly.
I am not the biggest fan of Egghead, to begin with.
It seems a bit forced and not coherent with the rest of the one piece world.
The exposition that is provided is freaking awesome, but still is just that in the end: Exposition. I'd have much preferred, if some of it would have been sprinkled in a little bit more before, just to give it more meaning here.
Nothing major though, just preferences I myself have for storytelling, that the medium of Manga can't technically provide in that regard.
Oda Sensei really does the best a Mangaka can do here. It's still incredible. And some of the later chapters... Wow... Absolutely breathtaking. The implications are so huge, we still can't really comprehend, it is absurd.
So: Great as always. Some highlights, some lowlights so to say. But it is still a build-up for this arc and for that, let me say:
Wow, does this feel unique.
Structure-wise, Egghead does some things, no other arc has done before. I don't want to spoil anybody, but the concept of an "active" Protagonist is taken to a new level here, even for One Piece.
Goda really doesn't give a single shit about storytelling-structure. And it shines.
Really really excited for the future, even if the journey might be frustrating from here on out.
I'm glad I can take it with the greatest pirate-crew in the history.
I will follow you to the edges of the world, my captain.

Volume 106: Chapter 1066-1076
Saga 11: Final Saga
Arc 32: Egghead
22 years ago, after the Incident of Ohara, Vegapunk visited Ohara debris and found thousands of book in the lake. A group of giants from Elbaf took the book and keep it. Monkey D. Dragon agreed with that action. Dragon, who is inspired by Professor Clover, will make sure the Will of Ohara keep lives on. He will change the world by founding the Revolutionary Army along with Emporio Ivankov and Bartholomew Kuma. Dr. Vegapunk always visit Elbaf to read Ohara's books and he memorised everything. Robin knows that Jaguar D. Saul is still alive.
At the scrapyard, Luffy's group meet the real Dr. Vegapunk. He ate Nomi Nomi no Mi that makes him a brainy human. He can gain knowledge unlimited and his brain will grow accordingly. He cuts his head and put an antenna. So, his brain was located in the place called Punk Records. Dr. Vegapunk said that the ancient robot was from 900 years ago. 200 years ago, the robot attacked Mariejois but run out of power in the process. The robot was hid there to be studied. Dr. Vegapunk asked Luffy to bring him out from Egghead. He wants learn more about the world and make a free energy for everyone.
CP0 arrived at Egghead Island and requesting to enter but their request was denied. CP0 with the help of S-Bear's power, they managed to infiltrate Egghead. S-Hawk, S-Snake and S-Shark were deployed with the command of Sentoumaru to stop CP0. Atlas come forth to fight Lucci but she was defeated. Luffy's group confronted CP0. Marines was received report from what happened in Egghead and Admiral Kizaru was deployed to Egghead.
Dr. Vegapunk said that he can create paramecia devil fruits using lineage factor method. He then infused the blood of the user into the Seraphims and he called it the green blood. That's why the Seraphims can used a devil fruit ability. At Kamabakka Queendom, Kuma used his devil fruit to fly him away to Red Port in Red Line.
Luffy fights Rob Lucci who has awakened his devil fruit. Sentoumaru and the Seraphims arrived. Sentoumaru have the authority to give order to the Seraphims. Lucci trying to wipe out Sentoumaru to gain the authority to give order. Luffy defeats Lucci and escape to Labophase along with Jinbe, Chopper, Bonney and Atlas.
Sentoumaru was defeated and CP0 got the authority. Egghead was lockdown and all possible route to get out was sealed. The dome that protect the Labophase suddenly going offline. CP0 infiltrated the Labophase. Kaku encounters Zoro who on guard. Stussy get Kaku and Lucci into sleep after she suck his blood. Stussy is the clone of Miss Buckingham Stussy of the Rocks Pirates. She is the first successful MADS' clone. Vegapunk got the Seraphims under control.
Bonney wants to kill Dr. Vegapunk because he killed Kuma. Bonney enters a Paw Room where Kuma's memories were placed. Everyone were looking for Dr. Vegapunk and they formed a searchy party; group 1 (Nami, Brook, Edison), group 2 (Chopper, Robin, Atlas), group 3 (Sanji, Jinbe, Stussy), group 4 (Usopp, Franky, Lilith, York). Luffy, Zoro and Shaka stay at the command room along with Kaku and Lucci.
The Vegapunks lose control of Seraphims. Group 4 was attacked by S-Snake. Luffy and Zoro was attacked by S-Bear and S-Hawk. Lucci and Kaku offer a truce and want to join hand to fight the Seraphims.
Sphinx Island, Whitebeard's hometown, was attacked by Marines who want Whitebeard's treasure. Edward Weevil fight the Marines and save the island. Garp was on his way to Hachinosu to save Koby. Wapol and Vivi are with Morgan from World Economic Journal.
Kidd and his crews arrived at Elbaf and ready to fight Shanks and Red-Haired Pirates.

it’s speculated that machinery excavated at a certain site dated back to the same era as the kingdom and potentially created during the void century. the history of the void century is believed to be the history of a conflict between an alliance of 20 nations and this forgotten advanced kingdom. the 20 victorious nations then became the world government and made sure that this ancient kingdom is erased from history.
vegapunk went to ohara after it was bombed since he knew professor clover. although the tree of knowledge was burned down, the lake at the center of the island was filled with books dumped in by the scholars of ohara. the giants of elbaf were fishing the books out. dragon and vegapunk were there to see it happen. it was then when dragon declared he was going to raise an army who can fight the marines/world government. a year later, dragon, ivankov, and kuma founded the revolutionary army. SAUL IS ALIVE. HE TOLD THE GIANTS ABOUT THE BOOKS. vegapunk went to elbaf and read all the books so he could continued ohara’s research.
at luffy’s end, they meet the actual vegapunk (old man) who ate the brain-brain fruit (memorise unlimited amount of knowledge). each of the “satellites” is an expert of their own key field of study. [omg, he needs to teach/pass on the information to the straw hat crew before CP0 comes around] vegapunk finds out that the defective fruit (made after researching kaido’s lineage factor) he left on punk hazard was eaten by momonosuke who is a pink dragon.
the iron giant luffy’s side found attacked the holy land of marijois 200 years ago, but was built over 900 years ago. the world government ordered its destruction but the scientists were curious so they hide in on egghead. vegapunk couldn’t figure out the iron giant’s power source. vegapunk wants luffy to bring him away from egghead island. CP0 is own their way.
meanwhile, kuma is with the revolutionary army.
CP0 has arrived at egghead. kizaru is on the way.
vegapunk’s theory on devil fruits: they’re made from wishes of people of evolution. the powers actualize these sentiments. these unnatural aberrations angered Mother Nature.
sentomaru is with vegapunk and his command overpowers CP0. he’s helping straw hat. as long as sentomaru is conscious, CP0 cannot command the seraphims.
kuma appeared at red port. Kid is reaching elbaf. garp is going to rescue coby from Blackbeard.
vegapunk promised to keep kuma’s secret from Bonney. she’s found the room where kuma’s pain and memories are stored.
stussy (robot) is a mole in CP0 planted by vegapunk. lucci and kaku were cuffed with seastone. THE REAL STUSSY IS EDWARD WEEVIL’S MOM?! weevil was taken away from ryoguku.
an elder is on the ship with kizaru. his command is the highest (higher than vegapunk), he can control the seraphim.
kuma (pacifista mark 3) is fighting the marines.
vivi and wapol are with the news guy.
someone is trying to kill all of them on egghead so luffy and zoro let CP0 guys out of the cuffs.
shanks is at elbaf and wants kid to give him the poneglyph rubbings.

I loved this volume. It just felt like a volume I’d encountered during the height of my earlier period reading One Piece. Sure it felt a little convoluted at points like any of the Post Timeskip arcs, but unlike Wano things in general felt more focused. There were huge lore drops about the ancient kingdom, Ohara, the void century, etc. and unlike with Wano I actually care about all of it, mostly because it ties in with Robin’s background (as well as the Revolutionary Army and Elbaph’s giants). I also enjoyed hearing more from Vegapunk’s role in One Piece mythology. As part of his explanation on Luffy’s “Gum Gum Fruit” and status as Nika The Sun God, I really liked hearing Devil Fruit lore and Vegapunk’s theory on what they represent as “wishes” and “evolutionary variations” for humanity. In general I just liked how we’re actually progressing the Egghead Island arc and doing a better job tying it in with the broader One Piece universe and particular characters like Kuma.
Other noteworthy parts of the volume:
- Saul the Giant living is great
- Rob Lucci and other members of CP9 being back as CP0 was fun. Also cool/amusing that despite their improvements they still can't match up to Luffy anymore.
- Small moment but I love Franky acknowledging his old enemy and buddy Senor Pink
- Garp and Helmeppo are going to rescue Koby!
- It started last volume but I find it neat that the Chapter’s cover stories now are directly linked to the events and characters of the chapters instead of happening concurrently.
So yeah, maybe its too soon to say if Egghead will be a hit of an arc, but this was the first time in a while after sitting through Wano where I found myself not feeling like One Piece had become a chore to read.
