We all make mistakes.

But what if you’d made a mistake that endangered the world and everyone on it?

In the compelling finale of redemption and technology-gone-wrong, inventor Storm Freeman has one final chance to take back the device she gave to the world.

The Gatherer delivers free infinite energy along with an illness with no known cure. Afflicted herself, Storm is heading back to the compound where she built the device to put an end to the suffering. But when she encounters a Gatherer so corrupted from her original design that she hardly recognizes it, she’ll need all her strength and that of those around her, to finally stop the lethal device she created.

“The Storm is an exciting, thought-provoking read. Colleen Winter’s beautiful writing builds to a powerful, emotional ending that is guaranteed to leave readers eager for whatever she does next.” - Adam Hamdy, International Best-Selling Author of THE OTHER SIDE OF NIGHT

I like to explore. Books, ideas, and beautiful places. My happiest days are spent discovering a new trail in the woods, a new book, or the thread of an idea as it becomes a story.

As an electrical engineer and a former journalist, I have one foot in both worlds, bringing together the wonders of the technical world and the stories that explore them.

A stellar conclusion to a thrilling series!

Storm is determined to stop the damage she has created with her invention of The Gatherer. After struggling against the effects that exposure to the machine inflects, the question is, will Storm regain her strength and mental abilities enough to come up with a way to stop them. Her journey to this point has been wrought with danger, not only from the effects of the Gatherer but also from the military she once belonged to. Even her mother is now working with the military to keep the unlimited energy creating Gatherers working. With the odds stacked against her, it will take all her know-how, the help of some friends and maybe even her life to put an end to the suffering that she has caused.

I really enjoyed Storms journey from start to finish. Her character as well as the supporting characters are well fleshed out, relatable and likeable. The author does a great job of creating suspense and tension within the story that kept me turning the pages. The conclusion and ending were surprising but satisfying. All-in-all, this was a very entertaining book and series that I highly recommend.

This dystopian / sci-fi story was a very timely and too close-to-home read for me! Here in Texas, the heat has been taxing our power grid daily - too hot and too many people! We get warnings every day, and we get rolling power outages on a bright sunny day.

Colleen Winter has written an electrifying trilogy - 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐦 being the conclusion - where Storm Freeman has invented “the Gatherer,” a device that supplies free energy to the world. (We could all use some free energy right now!) But this sounds too perfect, right? It is…

I’m jumping in at the conclusion of this series and I wish I had read the prior books - just for more background. Storm’s invention has grave repercussions. For one, it’s causing an illness that has never been seen before and there’s no cure - and Storm herself has been inflicted. Storm is desperately trying to remove her device from the world - realizing the mistake she made. But of course, the government has gotten involved and corrupted what was designed for good.

Although I don’t read a ton of sci-fi, I was very impressed with the writing. It’s scientific and intelligent, yet it is charged with raw emotion and suspense!

Thank you @suzyapprovedbooktours and @winter_colleen for a spot on tour and a gifted book.

In THE STORM, (The Gatherer Series Book 3) Colleen Winter draws her readers in and keeps them spellbound. The protagonist, Storm Freeman, has invented a device that supplies the world with endless electrical power. Sadly, it also spreads a plague that renders large numbers of the population extremely ill, including Storm herself. In a brave move, she takes on the government and the army to destroy this monster before it destroys the world.
The setting, oftentimes bleak and cold, creates a feeling of desolation and hopelessness and carries the reader along with the protagonist to discover a device even more corrupt and lethal than the original. The characters that join her along the way are well-developed and contribute to the emotional journey that brings the novel to an unsettling, yet satisfying, end.
With fast-paced writing that flows, and a well-thought-out plot, the reader is led to critically think about all science and inventions in our world. Winter escorts her reader on a journey of possibilities and potential stark realities that is science fiction at its best. The credible premise of this book makes it a read that will stay with you for a long time.

Fantastic conclusion to the series. Read it in two days, the highest praise for any book. The end of book two leaves you wondering how on earth it could be wrapped up in one book and this book accomplishes that, although it leaves you wondering until the very end.

After book 2 I have been anxiously awaiting the final book and this book was well worth the wait!

The whole series is filled with strong characters that draw you in and in The Storm continues that. As there are different story lines going on, you can't wait to get back to where each was left off as they are both extremely compelling and you want to know how the characters are doing.

The Storm, along with the whole Gatherer series leaves you thinking about electricity and energy in our world in a whole new way, as the world is alarmingly close to real life.

This is a speculative fiction novel with a dystopian theme which is full of nonstop action.

It has technology and energy as the enemy. The creator of the technology, Storm Freeman, is in a race to fix her mistake (with help from a few others) because so many people have become terminally ill.

This is the third book in the series and even though it can read as a stand alone, I would like to read the other two books to get a sense of the Gatherer’s (the energy source) origin story along with more back story on some of the characters from this book.

The book is told in multiple points of view. With each point of view, I felt the real sense of urgency to get the Gatherer stopped. There are also two children characters in this book that really impacted the plot in a good way.

Books like these always make me think that these realities could be not that far away.

“We all make mistakes.

But what if you’d made a mistake that endangered the earth and everyone on it?

How far would you go to fix what you’d done?”

And, what would you do when some people do not think it’s a mistake at all? This is the 3rd and final installment in the Gatherer series, where we find our FMC ill and trying to reverse what she unleashed into the world. Colleen’s writing is articulate, yet passionate. Her scientific knowledge lends itself to the flow of this gripping story with just the right amount of exposition. This story was emotional, and I felt everything right along with the characters. The setting was stark, but at the end was left feeling that one thing we all need…hope.

This is one of those stories that stays with you. I highly recommend!

THE STORM is relentlessly captivating and unsettlingly realistic for a Dystopian Sci-Fi novel!

This third book is a smart, compelling, and suspenseful read... EVERYTHING you want in the final installment of a thrilling trilogy.

We all make mistakes, and this is a reminder that sometimes we are willing to do whatever it takes to correct them or die trying. I highly recommend The Gatherer series. Each book gets better and better with the writing style, and there is chilling suspense at the end of almost every chapter, which keeps you flipping pages into the early morning hours. No sleep will be a big part of reading this book, at least until you read the electrifying conclusion.

The Storm by Collee is book 3 in The Gatherer Series.
This near future dystopian science fiction is incredibly creative and highly addicting.

Storm Freeman, the main characters has created something that will give unlimited electrical power to the entire world. What a scientific discovery. Unfortunately, it also spreads a plague creating a devastating illness.

The government doesn't care about the sick, only the technology and Storm takes them on in an incredible good vs evil plot.

This book was absolutely incredible. The world building, and the characters were so well written.

I highly recommend reading the first two books in the series to get a great background.

This series had all the elements that I love in a dystopian novel. The corrupt government, rogue agent, and inventor affected by their own creation. After the second book, I thought there was still a lot that Storm would need to do in order to find a solution to the gatherer problem and this book was a good conclusion to the series. I liked getting multiple POV and that the chapters indicated who’s it was, I was missing that in the first two books. There were many action scenes and the technology was written well and easy to follow. I felt immersed in the story as if I was a character myself.

Loved this one too ❤ 😍

This book made me love Maria and how supportive she was. Amanda was a good friend too but she can be too confident sometimes, which led her to being caught. Well, I didn't expect Alicia to help Stanton 😅… Wait a minute, it feels like I am giving a summary. This won't do. Well, I loved the idea of fighting evil with evil 😈
This series is a book that stays with you and leaves you thinking about a lot of things. I loved Storm's journey from beginning to end and how she was trying to fix what she did. She thought she created something good for the world but there is no free thing. Everything needs a sacrifice. It all depends on who is willing to shoulder it.

Been waiting for this one for a while, and finally it is here: “The Storm”, bringing Colleen Winter’s “Gatherers” trilogy to its thrilling conclusion. I love this series: the flawed but courageous heroes, the brilliant speculative geoengineering at its core, the action and the pathos…I could not put this book down, and though I admit I sniffled a bit, I found the ending to be as satisfying as I could have hoped for. I was eager to know how Colleen Winter was going to get Storm out of the predicament she was in at the end of Book 2, The Disruptors, and the wait was worth it! Comparisons with current global situations are inevitable, as this becomes a riveting cautionary tale about big implications for our planet and all creatures who share it, from what may appear to be easy, or obvious, choices. The ending was chilling, gripping and provocative...it lingers with me. Could there be a Book 4????

𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘨𝘳𝘪𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨!

What a ride, this is the final book of this series, and even when I didn’t read the first two I didn’t have any trouble at all following the story. It was wild, intense and impossible to put down. A great read for fans of dystopian and scifi.

So, this was a giveaway, I had no idea what it was about, and just started reading, after a couple of chapters I found it hard to put down, and also began to understand some of what the book was about, and that there was at least one book before, there were in fact two!! It was a great read and would have injoyed reading the ones before, too late now but hopefully there may be more!

This action packed book was a real page turner for me. Storm was such a compelling character and I was on the edge of my seat for most of the story. The secondary characters were unique and well developed as well. I read this as a stand alone with no problems but am tempted to go back and read the first two because this story was incredibly thought provoking.

The raw emotion of Storm Freeman's struggle to undo her scientific mistake, even as the mistake is killing her, is described in a cool, cerebral style. The contrast kept me reading and the ending left me satisfied. Recommended for fans of Asimov and Niven.

The explosive finale to the series begun in The Gatherer, which supposes a near future when a device that can create endless energy begins to sicken the populace and foments societal unrest. In each book, the creator of the device, Storm, is helped by stoic soldier Maria and others as they traverse Canadian wilderness and foray into government facilities and refugee camps trying to undo the harm the devices cause.

Winter's spare prose and clean plotting move the characters through ever-growing odds against them as they grapple with who they are in the face of danger, the meaning of family and spirituality, and how to survive obstacles brought by society, government, and the harsh natural environment. It's not quite a story of man vs machine but it does ask the reader to think twice about the convenience of smart devices and modern technology.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I purchased the first two books in the series independently.
