A Thousand Oceans

Rate this book
Dane Andrews is a man’s man. He’s steadfast and strong, and always loyal to a fault. He’s bossy and cocksure with a wicked smile. Those eyes will permeate your soul and promise to melt your panties. After twenty years of dedicating his life to serving his country, he makes the choice to retire and return to civilian life.
It’s a choice that proves to be harder than he anticipated. Suddenly faced with idle time on his hands and a major lack of daily routines, he finds himself at loose ends. Out of nowhere, an old family friend offers him a real estate opportunity. He jumps at the chance to return to the little town where he spent his childhood summers with his late grandmother. Her old house is now his and in need of some attention. He finally has some direction for his new life.
The much younger Charlie Oceans is a survivor in every sense of the word. She’s closed off to the world around her and perfectly happy that way. She’s lost and lonely with only her inner sadness to keep her company. Love and trust are mythical concepts to her. Alone and guarded is how she feels safe. That’s how she intends to remain.
Dane is captivated by her from the start. Their souls intertwine almost instantly. He knows what she needs and how to give it to her. Charlie tries to fight the connection, but the bossy man is not giving up. Making her his is his new mission. Like all good daddies, it’s his job to teach her what no one else has.
Little by little, her walls come crumbling down. When she lets him see the secrets of her past, his heart breaks for her. His daddy instincts kick in and send him in search of the answers that will kill her ugly demons once and for all. He goes on a hunt to avenge her honor, but Charlie has no interest in knowing hidden truths. Not knowing is what she needs. It goes against his need to fix everything, but he agrees to leave it alone.
Just as the two start to move forward, Dane unexpectedly finds the truth. It’s worse than he ever imagined. He does what he can to make it right, but who is it right for? That’s the thing about truth. You have to decide if it’s worth the pain it will cause. Charlie has lived with enough pain to fill the ocean. Her daddy wasn’t supposed to hurt her. When he does, forgiveness is her biggest challenge yet.

I am emotionally devastated. This book had me feel so much heartbreak and I just really want to hug poor Charlie.

Daddy Dane can do no wrong that man has a sweet heart and he was absolutely the best for Charlie!

I loved this sooo much!

As I sit here having finished “A Thousand Oceans” I can only hold back tears long enough to write this. I was never one for Daddy romances. I don’t think I could call anyone daddy during intimate moments. Dane and Charlie make me rethink this thinking and the strong connection it gave them. The awful pain and the letting go. The support and love it takes to help someone heal. Finding someone to love us enough to let us be ourselves is one of the lessons learned from this amazing story. Thank you Summer for the gift of your words. I love it! ❤️

Wow!!

Where to even start?! I loved the characters. So wonderfully flawed and relatable. I loved the storyline, very intriguing and with descriptive imagery that made me feel like i was there. It was a very emotional ride that I enjoyed every minute of!

What an amazing story. My heart breaks for Charlie. Throughout the story, I kept asking myself how I would have reacted or how would I have felt. She had so much to deal with, with the occurrences of her past and the present-day events, the secrets of her past that she held close to her heart and the unknown of her past that consumed her thoughts and happiness. Now, I for one, don't get the "daddy" thing. Sorry. There was enough age difference that I could see Dane taking a daddy, protector roll. But I could think of other words to call Dane if I was Charlie! I really enjoyed the overall storyline. The characters were awesome. The descriptions were perfect in setting of the scenes. I really thought we needed a day trip to Charlie's store. Now I'm curious as to what Author Summer Layne will have next for us!

Oceans worth of tears

Each chapter took a piece of my heart until I was left shattered, broken and empty. Her best book yet.
