The Arrangement

Rate this book
Grey Blackwell drives me crazy.

He has ever since high school, even before I had a tiny lapse of judgment for a couple of months and he promptly broke my heart. I’ve avoided him ever since, but now we’re both back in our hometown for the summer for the first time in years and he’s just as annoying as ever.

Annoying and hot.

To top it all off, he’s now a successful NFL quarterback and more popular than ever. I’m determined to stay away from him, but then he suggests an arrangement.

Just for the summer. Just two old friends seeing to each other’s needs. No complications and absolutely no feelings involved. I know I should say no. I know it’s not a good idea, but I can’t help it. I’m tempted.

I mean…what could possibly go wrong?

Scenes throughout the book were written in Chile, Argentina, Peru, Mexico and Colombia. I first read Ariya Cox's debut book a couple years ago, and I loved it. So I was excited to see she had a new book coming out, and The Arrangement did not disappoint!

Paige and Grey have known each other for years. I liked getting to see a bit of their past with a dual timeline that included chapters set during high school. They had a lot of chemistry with some great banter, and it was interesting seeing everything through Paige's POV. Sometimes it took her a bit to see everything clearly, but she viewed Grey and their relationship one way for a long time so it wasn't an instant change. You can see/understand Grey and his feelings fairly easily and I would have loved to get even a chapter or two from him.

The writing and storytelling were easy to read and engaging. I really enjoyed getting to read another book from Ariya and I am already looking forward to whatever she writes next!

Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.

Universal

Paige and Grey have spent most of their lives sparring with each other, and actively disliking each other, even when hooking up in high school. Now as adults she's back in their hometown and she's having a hard time not falling back into their cycle of hooking up then avoiding each other. Can they do the casual thing this time, without any feelings popping up?

Grey's feelings for Paige are different than the ones she claims to have for him. If all she'll offer him is a casual summer arrangement, he'll take it. He'll take anything he can get with her, and just maybe he'll get her to admit to the same feelings he has. Perhaps this summer will change everything for them.

Damn but this "arrangement" was a rollercoaster. I wanted to shake Paige more than once. She was so in denial, so deliberately oblivious to what was really going on, that she hurt Grey and herself. Honestly, I don't like her character, but I do love Grey. Not only is he sweet, he's so patient with Paige (and forgiving too), just waiting for her to realize the truth of their feelings. Despite disliking Paige's character, I love everything else about this story. The writing flows, Grey is amazing, and the secondary cast is interesting too.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

Grey Blackwell drives me crazy. He has ever since high school, even before I had a tiny lapse of judgment for a couple of months and he promptly broke my heart. I've avoided him ever since, but now we're both back in our hometown for the summer for the firs time in years and he's just as annoying as ever. Annoying and hot. To top it all off, he's now a successful NFL quarterback and more popular than ever. I'm determined to stay away from him, but then he suggests an arrangement. Just for the summer. Just two old friends seeing to each other's needs. No complications and absolutely no feelings involved. I know I should say no. I know it's not a good idea. but I can't help it. I'm tempted. I mean...what could possibly go wrong?

Grey and Paige have known each other their entire lives. They grew up together. He was the football star and most popular guy in school. She was the smartest girl but not very popular at all. They were rivals to the bitter end. Always arguing and him really getting under her skin. Now their best friends are dating each other and they begin to spend more time together. Until she gets her heart broken and knows the best thing to do is avoid Grey at all cost. However the time has come for her to go back home for the summer. She is in between jobs and he is in the off-season. Again with their best friends still a couple they are thrown together a lot. After all when your best friends are getting married and you are going to be around each other for the summer why not strike a deal to be each other's secret hook up. They just never expected their secret time together and agreed to not catch feelings for the feeling to begin to creep in a takeover. Paige is clueless of what to do when those feelings keep surfacing. After all she is still carrying some serious baggage from their time in high school. Will this ever work out or will they leave it there after the summer and never see what could have been?
I have to say that I was a little disappointed that we only got Paige's point of view for the entire book. I really would have loved to have gotten Grey's point of view too. I really wanted to know what was going on in his head. It is also told in alternating timelines of the present and the last two years of high school. I also got a little frustrated at Paige. I mean come on. The guy got under your skin so bad in the past and you never ever thought to think this guy has a thing for me? Does she not remember a time when guys are horrible to you but really just want your attention and to be the love of your life. It's a cute book. I didn't not like it at all. I really liked it but again I so would have loved to have had Grey's point of view.

So far so good, almost made it a 5 stars but it's starting to get annoying how redundant it's getting regarding the misscommunication trope. LOL they don't let Grey say SHIT LMAO, they are interrupting him 24/7 everytime he's about to say something Important that will help the story progress. But I do love the groveling and the angst. It's annoying how much of a gaslighter Paige is. Like it's craaaaazy ( and I thought I had issues) she really is a women in a male dominated field. She gaslights the shit out of Grey and I kind of feel bad for him LOL. I'm on page 205 and if they actually ever get married they are going to get a divorce because they have sirious communication issues.

Well... I just finished it. Tbh after all that drama the ending was a little lack luster. Did she really need to come to terms that she as IN LOVE with Grey after hearing it from her best friend? I mean, after everything and considering she's a 25 y/o woman, couldn't she come up to that conclusion Herself? I didn't really like that. Tbh, for somone that was so direct it seemed like she just sort of went with whatever other people told her to do. So now that your friends approve you are gonna go and date Grey? I hate to say it but he deserves better. But also, Grey was so stupid... Like. Lost puppy just looking for her love everywhere. And OMG how can you be so successful and 25 years old not be able to give a proper confession to the girl you've liked for years.

These are adults that refused to have any sort of proper communication. as soon as the MMC was going to say something Important FMC would cut him off 💀💀 it was terrible LOL why couldn't they just be honest and direct with each other.

I relate a lot to Paige because I'm also emotionally blocked and of course I don't believe I'm deserving of love and I have had opportunities were super hot guys have wanted to date me and I'm just like "oh you just want to play with me and I'm not about get heartbroken" so I fully understand but honestly at some point it was so repetitive to continue the self doubt narrative on this story and honestly I didn't really see how Paige was *actually* able to overcome that self doubt narrative, even through the second to last paragraph the self doubt was still there. I feel like she never really overcame it.

And lastly, the author doesn't focus the epilogue on the actual couple from the current book. There's nothing more I hate than something like that, what a way to ruin the readers experience... Why even out an epilogue if you were going to do that. Girl bye.

Also, I didn't really get how Grey brook her heart. Gurl you kissed him too while you had a boyfriend LOL.

I did enjoy this book and at some point it was 5 stars for me but now that I finished its a 3 stars.

Grey and Paige grew up together. Grey was a football star and the most popular guy in school. Paige was the smart girl and not all that popular. Paige and Grey are kind of rivals in school, he tends to get under her skin and they argue all of the time. When their best friends start dating they end up spending more time together. Then something happens and Paige ends up with a broken heart and does everything she can to avoid Grey for years.

She is home for the summer, in between jobs, and Grey is home for the off-season as a professional football player. They again are together a lot because their best friends are now getting married. They strike an arrangement, since they are both home for the summer, they will hook up but keep it a secret from their mutual friends. But spending so much time together can lead to feelings and Paige doesn't know what to do with those feelings, especially when her feelings are unresolved from high school.

This book is only told through Paige's point of view and it alternates between timelines. The current summer and their final two years of high school as well as a couple of years of college. It was obvious through the whole book that Grey was in love with Paige and had been for years. And I would have loved to have some chapters from his point of view. I went back and forth through this book with wanting to scream at Paige to open her eyes and feeling for her and her need to protect her feelings. I loved Grey throughout the book, he was sweet even when he was trying to challenge Paige. He was putting himself out there over and over again and had the patience of a saint!

I really liked the alternating time lines, I loved seeing how they got to the place they were in. Each part we got from their past explained the current time period well. I also really liked the friend group, the characters were fun and it seems that this book is the start of a series and I am hoping we get books for each of the side characters.

I did feel that the ending was kind of rushed, I liked the slow burn of the romance between Paige and Grey and would have liked to see a little more of the ending. But the epilogue ends on a real cliff hanger so I am hoping maybe there will be more to Grey and Paige's story in book 2.

Read this if you like:
*enemies to lovers
*second chance romance
*celebrity/sports romance
*friends with benefits

Paige knows that letting her heart anywhere near Grey Blackwell is dangerous, the last time she let him in he broke her young heart and she's never really recovered from it. From that point on she considered him the enemy, always kept him at an arm's length and used her sharp tongued barbs to let him know just where he stood with her.

With running in the same circles she knew there would be times she'd run into him again, but through the years she's found ways to avoid him and keep him at a distance where she likes him. But now that they are both home for the summer it's going to be tricky keep him far away where he belongs, especially when her friends keep bringing him along when they go out. Which makes it hard to keep her heart in check...

The Arrangement is kind of a mix of enemies to lovers and second chance romance, these two have a past that involves ill feelings and broken hearts and it's forced them into this enemies phase, but secretly they both still like one another, just not so sure they want to declare it out loud for fear of the past repeating itself. They've done their best to avoid one another through the last few years, but with both of them being home for the summer they find themselves together far more and their feelings for one another start to change. Like hating one another less and craving one another a little more... which could be dangerous, or the best thing that has ever happened to them!

I really enjoyed this first time read, the words flowed nicely, the banter made me smile, the steamy moments did not disappoint, and the characters were easy to connect to... a great escape if you ask me! Highly recommend!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

The Arrangement by Ariya Cox

This was my first book by this author. This book had me hooked as soon as I read the blurb. However I must be completely honest I’m not sure how I fully feel about it. I’m confused by it in a way I really enjoyed it because the author has a great story and I really liked Grey but for the first time in a while I just don’t really connect with our female character. I just was not a big fan of Paige. I just didn’t really like her much and found her to be a bit annoying. Like right off the beginning the first chapter at the bar she was a little pathetic but not in a sad way more of I’m bored and i can do what I want way and the way she was with her friends was a bit annoying. I didn’t like her communication skills they were really lacking. I get she was in the younger si de but she was just behind lacking communication and I just didn’t like her behavior towards Grey at times it was just too much. I am so use to and love when we get both characters point of view and I think we really needed that here to get his side. Idk I think a lot was off but the storyline was there. I am giving it a reread and maybe see a different perspective. I think you should give it a try too.

Love this couple!

I was NOT expecting to love this book as much as I did! This is my first book by Ariya, but I love sports romance, so I figured I’d give it a shot.

Paige is visiting her parents in her hometown while waiting for her new job in NYC to start. She only has a couple months to kill, so when she runs into her nemesis, star NFL QB Greyson Blackwell, she figures they can co-exist for a couple of months. We find out that Grey has always had feelings for Paige, but she definitely didn’t see it. He still feels the same, so even though she keeps trying to keep her distance, he does *the most* to spend time with her. When he suggests an “arrangement” where they scratch each other’s itches (if you catch my drift), she finally decides to let loose with him…but she doesn’t expect him to attempt to break down her walls in the process.

At first, I was like, “HOW CAN SHE NOT SEE HOW HE’S FELT ABOUT HER?! IS SHE DUMB?!” But then I saw things from her POV and it made more sense. I really really enjoyed this book and we even get a teensy cliffhanger at the end to set up the next one!

4 Star Review

It seems like Grey has always drove Paige crazy and even as adults and they crossed paths again, to Paige it felt like things never changed. To her Grey was the same as when they were in high school. But one thing is for certain - that man hasn't changed, he is still hot as hell.

Grey and Paige may have always bumped heads, always at each other's throat but they were still friends and a bit more than just friends. Well life goes on and they move on and then Grey makes it to the NFL and Paige moved away for work.

Once they both found themselves back in their hometown, it seemed like old time. But they decided on an arrangement but will it be two sided or one sided because one is bound to fall after all!

I was pumped to read this book and it totally had me hooked. I loved Grey, he was a sweetheart and so over his head in love with Paige even though she seemed oblivious of his feelings for her. Deep down, she felt the same way, but she was in denial (boo)! But this book totally had me all in and I loved it!

Ms. Paige McGown has moved back to her childhood small town where everyone knows epyour business. She didn’t want to but being guilted by her mother and her best friend Mel up coming wedding. Hometown living it is. But, Greyson Blackwell the famous NFL player is also back home. Her arch nemesis in high school. He is always getting under her skin. Everyone sought him out, she didn’t. What could go wrong with this scenario? Oh Flashbacks of summer of Junior year most of Senior year of high school and one night of 3rd year of college.

Anyways, as Paige waits until her new job in NYC to start in fall she is to help Mel along with her Finance Micah in the wedding planning. Technically not a lot, but good old Micah doesn’t want to be bother. Yo, hold the phone what? Oh so Micah’s best man is Greyson, so he too will help out. Oh this should be interesting right? No I got pissed at Paige’s character. Closed minded about anything Greyson. Wont tell her friends her feelings about him. Could have saved her a lot, revelations were made at the end of the chapter. One’s feelings was made during high school and desparately wanted to convive one’s feelings but was never able to. Blocked but always trying to, saying he wrong things, not intentionally. But always showed their intentions. Was it received? Also am I talking in circles? Probably. Also this does end in a cliffhanger. Who’s gonna get married?

🏈The Arrangement🏈

By Ariya Cox

Rating: ⭐️4/5

Emotions: ❤️ 5/5🌶 4/5

Paige is a young woman who is still trying to find her place in the world. She is a special kind of girl, very unique in her way and manner. With the species men as well as in her friendship with her friends. Not just your average young woman.

Paige and Grey have a lot of history. And nothing about that is as easy as it seems. But they also have different memories about them, or experiences. I would have loved to read a few chapters in Grey’s POV. Because throughout the book there were moments that made me want to know his thoughts and feelings.

Their banters and encounters were hilarious and funny. Got LOL moments. Despite everything they were able to work through it all and find out about their feelings toward each other. The end was surprising and left me hanging with my jaw on the floor. I am excited to see what will happen in book two?

Being that this was my first time reading one of Ariya’s books I was honestly not so sure what to expect when I first came across the arc signup . But I’m such a sucker when it comes to reading the trope of sports / high school and second chance romances . So I decided to give it a shot and I’m just so happy I did . I was hooked from page one , on the edge of my seat anticipating what would happen one second to the next . I smiled , I laughed, I cried and I rooted so so hard for Paige and Grey to get the happily ever after they both clearly deserved. Angst , witty banter , humor , romance , friends to lovers , rivals , opposites attract, heartbreaking and heartfelt moments, awesome world building, drama , miscommunication, tragedy, secrets , page turner , unforgettable and unputdownable. The Arrangement has it all in spades . It’s the type of love story that’s going to grab onto all your emotions so quickly and pull at your heartstrings in ways you definitely will not be expecting

Grey and Paige have known each other forever. Growing up in the same small town, Paige felt like she had to work hard to achieve her goals while everything fell in football star Grey’s lap. But there is a thin line between love and hate, and in high school they secretly were together for months. Flash forward a few years, Paige is back home to spend some time with her friends and be in her friend Mel’s wedding before moving to NYC. Grey is in the NFL but spends his downtown in his hometown. They come up with an arrangement this time, but will they be able to stick the rules?

Both of the main characters were frustrating in so many ways. They were grown adults - can they not be honest with each other? And how can Paige not see what is right in front of her all this time? But that would not make for a good romance novel I guess! You will love Grey’s character.

I read an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Grey and Paige have always known each other, right from elementary school but High School is where things started to get difficult. He was always pushing her buttons, stirring and he was everywhere! And then things really started to change.
Paige is focused, feisty, independent and stubborn but has a bit of an insecure streak when it comes to relationships.
Grey is popular, gorgeous, kind, funny and the school’s star quarterback on a path to greatness and he likes to push Paige to be her best because she doesn’t back down from him, she always tells it like it is.
I loved this story. The characters are deep and emotional, the plot realistic and engaging. It’s emotional, funny, steamy and a HFN, BUT there’s a cliffhanger and I’m really looking forward to book two.

I received a free copy from the author and this is my honest review.

I loved this one. I couldn't read it in one sitting, but every time I picked it up to read it, I was hooked and didn't want to put it down. Grey and Paige have known each other since high school. They bicker a lot and push each other's buttons. They also have great chemistry, and you know they like each other. It takes Paige some time to figure out that Grey doesn't hate her. Paige can sometimes be a little frustrating, but she's still a loveable character. In this story, we get the present and the past, so we get to see how they were in high school. I really liked these two, and I was rooting for them. I loved everything about this story and will definitely be reading more books by the author. The epilogue has me wanting more from their friends Mel and Micah.

This small town romance sucked me right in when Paige found herself back home for a few months in between jobs and hoping to spend time with her friends and family. The only problem is that her high school nemesis Grey is also back home.

This whole book is written from Paige’s perspective, but you can definitely tell from the beginning that these 2 have some unresolved issues to work through. The way the story builds and their relationship grows is so wonderful. The feelings are all there and there is just a perfect amount of steam.

This was my first book by this author, but it definitely won’t be my last. The way this story played out had me all up in my feelings, and I loved it.

This is my first read from Ariya Cox, and it certainly won't be my last.

When I first went into this book, I was not expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. The found the writing quite easy to read, and engaging. Give me any book with a sports romance, and the second chance trope, and I will always pick it up.

Paige and Greyson had a wonderful storyline. These two characters had such a wonderful connection and chemistry, somewhat without even trying. I do love how you get to see a change take place over time, and it wasn't an instant connection. Rather, you get to see the banter, chemistry start to build, until eventually, it is impossible to deny, and avoid.

I am thoroughly looking forward to whatever Ariya will write next.

4/5 Stars!

OMG, that ending you can't just leave me hanging like that. Although I tiny voice in my head was saying Micah was going to do something like that. I just didn't want to believe it. I loved Grey so much he was my favourite 😍 Paige on the other hand was harder for me to like, sometimes I wanted to shake her and just tell her to be quiet and listen to what Grey has to say. Other times, I liked her as she stuck up for herself and refused to change who she was. I wished we had got some other POVs, especially greys and Mels. Overall, though, I loved this book.

Grey and Paige have know each other all of their lives, end when he breaks her heart she avoids him at all costs. Now Grey is a successful NFL quarterback, and Paige’s arch nemesis, and they find themselves back in their hometown for the summer. Old feeling resurfaces, and they come to an arrangement, but what happens when their feelings develop into more? This is a well written story which has family, friendships, heartbreak, secrets, emotions, humor, and love, which leads to an entertaining and compelling page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Grey and Paige have a history. Through the use of past and present narrative, the reader slowly uncovers that their rivalry isn’t as simple as it seems. Their banter is entertaining, and at times even laugh out loud funny. At times, you will find yourself wanting to shake certain characters (especially that cliffhanger epilogue - can’t wait for that couple’s story!!) Can Grey and Paige overcome their misunderstandings and misconceptions?

4.5 stars (I would have loved to have a chapter or two - past and/or present - with Grey's perspective)

This was a new to me author, but since she wrote about my favorite subject (football) I definitely had to read this book, and I'm so glad I did!

I loved the characters of Grey and Paige. They've known each other forever, and when he shatters her heart, she ends up giving him the cold shoulder.

Grey is now a hot shot QB, and is back in their hometown. These two come together and their chemistry is still as hot as ever! Will their arrangement though lead to heartbreak, or a happily ever after?

I will definitely be reading more from this author!!

It’s quite an interesting story, filled with angst , second chances . I liked the characters they were all so great. It was a great read , I liked that Greyson was protective of her . They had some cute scenes together. They also have really great chemistry. Greyson fell hard and fast , it truly was so adorable ☺️. I definitely recommend reading this book.

Grey pro athlete and Paige have banter like no other. They have been in each other’s lives since high school. There no strings attached arrangement is supposed to be no big deal but will that be the case? It had a good storyline and my first book for Ariya that I really enjoyed.

I am always a sucker for a sports romance. Add in a second chance trope as well this has a recipe to be an amazing book. I am giving this 4 stars because I loved the story line. The insecure high school girl grown up to be about the same and the popular boy in school who always said his truths to grow into the same genuine person. Greyson and Paige play off each other in a way that is fun and painful to watch. They push each other without trying and realizing.

Agreeing to an arrangement over the summer to take care of each other may not always be what you bargained for.

This is my first book by this author! The cover caught me and synopsis hooked me! I really wanted to love this story and I struggled with my rating because there were moments when I was completely enthralled with the characters but what was frustrating was not having Greys POV! Even if it was just a chapter here and there I really wanted his side of things. I wanted to know what kept him in love because at times I really struggled to like Paige!

That was the other factor in my rating! Paige is young and is still finding herself and her place in the world, so some of her behaviors I can excuse but I just never fully got her hesitance with Greg. I also found her friendships to be odd! I don’t feel like she communicates very well with anyone and that really shocked me because I would think her and Mel would be more open! I loved how honest they were with her but she was really one sided!

I am looking forward to the next book in the series and hope with that one we get dual pov because he has some serious explaining to do!

Paige and Grey have known each other pretty much since childhood. Grey is a professional football player spending the offseason training in his hometown. Paige is home for the summer before she starts a new job. They have a friend group in common so they end up spending a lot of time together….but boy do they bicker! Grey wants nothing more than to get along with Paige and more…but boy oh boy does she snap at him every second she gets the chance. This book flashes back from their relationship in High School to present time to give you the full story. They eventually start spending some one on one time together, but is that enough for him? Do they have they same feelings for each other? I really enjoyed the dynamic of this friend group and I truly enjoyed Grey. Paige was a little immature for me and I found Her to be a bit annoying. But in all I really enjoyed this book and the story it told. The story was well written and I’m looking forward to reading the next book.

I loved this book ! I usually don’t go for sports romance but the dude on the cover totally convinced me 😂 Grey was so patient . He was cocky but when it came to his love for Paige her he knew he loved her. Thank you for this arc !
