The dragon king has finally found his mate. Me.

For centuries, every woman in my family has vanished on the night of her twenty-first birthday, then returned telling tales of being shamefully ravaged by a man who could turn into a dragon.

Tonight he came for me.

I fought, but he just tore off my clothes and spanked me until I was wet and ready for him.

The brute didn't take me right then and there. He made me beg for it first. But even before he marked me as his, I knew he wasn't going to send me home after he mounted and claimed me.

The dragon king is never going to let me go.

Because I'm his mate.

Publisher's Note: Dragon King includes spankings and rough, intense sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

A rift in the realm!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙💚💜❤️
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍
Character development: 😟🙁☺️🤓
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Hayleigh - a week before her twenty first birthday, she left university and went to her father’s new house in Connecticut. She was stuck there alone in a snowstorm and while looking for a flashlight she found her dead mother’s diary. She found that her mother and every other woman in her line for as far back as she could research had all disappeared on their twenty first birthday. Some were gone only a day, some a week, some a month, but all were eventually returned, and they were different when they came back. Many went crazy and some, like her mother committed suicide sometime later.

The Hero: Kol - he is the dragon king of Blaiselheim, the realm of fire. Centuries ago, a witch foretold the end of his realm when the barriers between realms opened. Only the claiming of a human female with magic in her blood once a generation would close the rift between worlds and hold off the Armageddon/Ragnarock. On the twenty first birthday for each female of the bloodline, Kol would kidnap the woman and take her to bed which would close up the rift for a time.

The Story: Kol came for Hayleigh on her birthday, despite the fact that she had hidden out in spain in a place that nobody would look for her. She found that she was attracted to him, and he was able to play her body like a fine instrument. Though she was different than the ones that came before her, not only in how she made him feel, but for the fact that the rift didn’t close once he claimed her.

This book was super steamy, it seemed like it was just one steamy scene after another for quite a while. Even though I did enjoy the storyline, it was probably a bit too much for my tastes. I found myself wanting to find out more about the prophecy, what magic was in Hayleigh’s blood and more. The last two hours of the audiobook were more about the story, with less intimate scenes, so I did like that it finally got there.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via Dual narration. It was narrated by Dave Wisniewski and Samantha Leatherwood. Samantha has a soft, feminine voice which was very pleasant, and Dave has a super deep voice which matches Kol perfectly. I liked them both and was pleased with the narration.

umm so he slept with all her female ancestors?

Including her mom?????
I mean I like dark, but this is sick. Ohh but she is different because he didn’t kiss any of them but her and her wiped them from his mind after screwing them. HA!!!!! 🙄
Seriously? What author thought that an immortal dragon king that screwed the fmc mom, grandma and etc was a good plot line?
Could have just said his family males always took the female at 21 or something.
So this chick gets moms and grandmas sloppy seconds.
DNF and author on never read again list.

Dragon King by Sara Fields is the first I've read from this author. I enjoyed this book and read it in one sitting, but I'm not sure if I'd read another from her. I definitely got some Beauty and the Beast vibes, which I'm here for.

I truly enjoyed Hayleigh as a character. She had no idea that the women in her family disappeared on their 21st birthday for undetermined lengths of time. During a snow storm over holiday break, Hayleigh stumbled upon a ruby necklace and her mother's journals. It was through these journals that Hayleigh learned her ancestors returned broken from wherever they went. She fled to a remote cabin in Spain, hoping to avoid her ancestors' fate. Alas, fate cannot be outrun. The Dragon King, Kol, found her as easily in Spain as he would have anywhere else.

Kol has been the Dragon King of Blazelheim for centuries. In order to save his people and world, he must take a human who is both fated to him and carries magic in her bloodline. Enter the Ward women. All of Hayleigh's ancestors had been meek and mild, but not her. Her defiance entices Kol and delicious punishments ensue.

Some of the issues I had with this book revolved around wordbuilding, or lack thereof. Blazelheim, Hellheim, and the overall world (worlds?) were intriguing, but needed more worldbuilding. A prophecy is mentioned a number of times, but it was never truly shared with the reader.

By the end, I had questions because some questions posed within the story were left unanswered. Why did Hayleigh's previous ancestors return as shells of themselves? Why were some returned after hours, weeks, or months? Hayleigh was determined to find the answer in Blazelheim's library, but she never did.

Dragon King had a little bit of dubcon (I'm here for it, but you may not be), some forced pleasure, a whole lot of spanking, and a great deal of potential. The spice was plentiful, but I ended up skimming toward the end. I love me some spicy scenes. I'm all for it. I just felt like the scenes were the same. I need some variety.

Sexy but...

I did enjoy this book quite a bit, however there were some issues I could not overlook. The plot was a bit rashed something that might be attributed to the spice of the novel, since there was more spice than plot. The feelings, relationship and the eventual resolution at the end also felt sudden with the FMC being too forgiving that almost felt weird...

Repetitive smut/not enough plot

*SPOILERS*

I won’t summarize what this book is about, there are usually summaries aplenty in reviews. I liked the idea of the plot I just wish there was more depth to it. There were so many points that just barely get touched on and disappear. Such as generations of abduction/possible rape of FMC family line. Her mother committed suicide over it, yet she doesn’t talk about it to the MMC who is the one who committed these heinous acts. Yes he had to for the safety of his realm (but of course🙄) but she still never felt the need to ask? Hey sexy dragon man who kidnapped me along with all my female ancestors so did you rape and torture my mom and grandma? Nah, who wants to know that minor detail when this possessive, bossy, controlling, alphahole makes you forget everything with a couple spanks, a tail and a giant peen. I mean how can knowing what happened to your mom compare to that?

Supporting characters minimal and forgettable. There were a couple brought in briefly but not enough to enrich the story much.

The conflict arc was quickly thrown in and over. FMC was kicked out by MMC which allows her to be kidnapped and mistreated for a week. Then all of a sudden he is there to save the day. There wasn’t anything about him realizing he was wrong, no time fraught with guilt and worry. Nothing about what he did the week she disappeared, just kicks her out then bam saves the day and says I’m sorry. There wasn’t any groveling or reflecting on what a jerk he was, just sorry with little explanation and abracadabra… forgiven. Also she had been starved, barely given water for a week and not a bath in sight yet he saves her and goes straight to spanking and rough sex. Malnutrition, dehydration, a week of dirt, sweat and who knows what else caked on this poor girl and thats the most appealing activity? All I could think was a week tied up and dragged through the dirt and first thing he does is put his mouth on her various body part 😳.

Last point I will mention here is about a character named Mais, shes a baddy. After FMC gets rescued from Mais and her cronies, Mais runs back to her realm with a last evil smile directed at Fmc. Ok so how is that going to play in, does she come back for revenge. Nope never see her again. Ok so last evil lingering smile means nothing… got it.

I lied that wasn’t the last point…. Please come up with an alternative to shame or shameful. There has to be other adjectives then that?

Sexy times were page after page of repetitive scenes with a lot of spanking thrown in. They were very much lather, rinse, repeat.

I respect the art of writing and storytelling. Regardless of my personal critique I admire and respect all authors. The review is my very subjective opinion and therefore take it with a grain of salt.

Destiny has come for them both

Get ready to burn with this one. I love how the characters are just getting by on their own, but once they are thrown together they start to thrive. She’s sassy, he’s demanding and the sparks fly from the very beginning. Of course the story is just as interesting as the battle of wills these two have going on in the bedroom. I enjoyed watching the realm handle the invaders and the danger that seemed to be lurking just around the corner. This book was a great read and I really hope the author will add more to the tale.

You can't run from fate.

Hayleigh is approaching her twenty-first birthday and has heard stories of the women in her family line vanishing on that day. She is left alone by her father once again. When the weather turns nasty and the power goes out she begins searching the large house for candles or a flashlight which led her to the basement. When she stumbles on a picture of her dead mother her old journals and ruby necklace. What she discovers leads her to flee to another country try to hide from her fate.
Kol is Dragonborne a dragon shifter and King of Blazelheim, the realm of fire. Hayleigh comes from a legacy that serves his family and keeps his realm from being torn apart. Unfortunately none of them could handle his realm and all died after going crazy. That is until he comes for her he feels she's different.
Their storyline has danger, suspense, mystery, betrayals, prophecies and of course undeniable chemistry between the two.
I would of liked to see more plot and back story on both of them. There was a lot of unanswered questions that were never answered like why did her family line return less than whole, what was the prophecy, why didn't she continue to seek answers after her trip to the library and what about her father? Did she just disappear and leave him wondering?
Overall it was a decent read and the epilogue leaves you thinking about the next book.
I received a free ARC through Booksprout an I'm voluntarily leaving my review.

3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ round up to 4 since there in no half stars.

Dragon King is a dark, shifter, fated mates romance. This book was difficult to put down and it was so hot. I loved the characters, the spice, the plot, the writing, everything.

This book makes me think of a saying - “you can’t avoid destiny by running away from it.” Hayleigh and Koi were meant to be and there was nothing that could stop them from coming together. These two were phenomenal characters, she was sassy and he was demanding. These two had a rough start, but I loved watching them fall in love.

I can’t wait to read more by Sara Fields.

This is the first book I’ve read by new-to-me author Sara Fields and boy did I love every second of it! Steam from the start! What a first meeting! And it kept getting steamier! Kol is a dream come true. It was a sweet read, despite their dubious first encounters. The only downside is that it ended. I would have loved it to continue a bit longer, but Sara Fields does have other books I plan to indulge in.

This was a page turner for me. I loved Hayleigh and Kol and the spice was great and creative. If you loved Cinna from Hunger Games, you’ll love Kenna! Kenna filled a hole in my heart I didn’t know was there. If you know, you know. He didn’t get many scenes, but I loved all the ones he was in.

Spice level (1-5): 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Kink level (1-3): ⛓️⛓️ spanking, delayed gratification, praise, double pen, back door x tail action, shifter smex, belt, kitty slapping, dub con, light bondage, hand necklace etc

Unbeknownst to Hayleigh, all the women in her family disappeared for a time on their 21st birthday. Her mother never gave her any details before she died. All Hayleigh now knows is that once they came back they were never the same. They came back broken. Determined not to suffer the same fate, Hayleigh flees to a cabin alone in Spain for her 21st birthday. But fate is not something you can outrun or hide from, and Kol has come to collect. Kol will do anything for his kingdom, even copulate with a human whether she likes it or not. Doomed to the same fate as the rest of the women in her family, just what did Kol do to them? So far all Kol has done is awaken new feelings inside her. Just how will this turn out for Hayleigh as her feelings for Kol start to look like something she shouldn’t feel for her captor?

I’d recommend Dragon King to anyone who enjoys steamy shifter romance smut. It has Vicious Lost Boys vibes, minus the why choose. It is a fast burn teetering on insta lust, but it’s a good one! Even if you don’t like fast burns, I encourage you to give this one a try. The steam is hot, Kol is a dream, the writing is great and the plot is interesting.

Warning: Reading Dragon King may make you think about your phone’s battery life. May make you wonder if there are bears in Spain. May make you realize all clothes look the same torn on the floor. May make you remember that sometimes new lacy underwear can make you feel smexy even if no one is going to see it. May make you say “Please, my King.” May make you imagine everyone’s head shaped like a potato. May make you go to cabins in hopes that a King from another dimension will come to swoop you away. May make you realize that you didn’t knock something over, it just lost its fight with gravity. May make you wish your SO had a tail. May make you curious of all the things you could do with a tail. May make you love dragon shifter romances. Read responsibly.

These are always hit or miss., this actually falls kind oh in the middle…

He’s a dragon king and everyone of her ancestors are taken on their 21st birthday to places unknown, eventually returned but are just a shell of their former self.

Few issues as always.
- There’s not that much to the story overall, fairly slow going
- Not that much description of the worlds or places in general
- Nothing is ever actually explained to her about anything. Not why she’s there, not what they need from her, not who they are or where she is etc. 😒
- He throws he out, banishes her fro being a traitor (she not) and then as soon as comes for her it’s like nothing happened, should have had a backbone…

One thing that if you actually think about it just comes across so weird, is the fact he’s effectively taken possession of all her female ancestors before her. Her mother, grandmother and potentially had sex with them…….. 😶
You never actually find out why her ancestors come back broken/suicidal. Is it the place or him that does that too them…..

I'm 60% in and she HASNT ASKED A SINGLE QUESTION ABOUT WHY SHE IS THERE OR WHY HER MOM OR GRANDMA ETC WAS THERE.
Not one question you guys, just constant sex and wondering if he's "the one "

So it NEVER COMES UP.
I mostly finished the book and she just never asks.
She never asks how the whole tradition started, or what was supposed to happen, or whether he remembered HER MOTHER who he obviously fucked into insanity, she doesn't ask ANYTHING.
There is zero world building. Like the world sounds cool but then at the end she talks about hotels and tents and I'm like oh, that isn't how I was picturing it.

This is just erotica honestly. It's not bad erotica but it's pretty repetitive.

I honestly have no idea what to say.

There wasn’t much plot or story line. Hailey seemed to not care that Kol had basically abused and r*ped generations of her family that left them mentally scarred. All she cared about was more orgasms.

Ok for a quick ‘palette cleanser’ I guess

I enjoyed the story, a variation on the theme of the fae realms - with dragons and without the fae. There was a lot of very rough and sometimes violent coupling, which tainted the story a bit for me. But there was love, betrayal, war, more love and a happy and slightly surprising ending. Overall, four stars.

Sara Fields returns with a brand new dragon shifter romance between two unlikely individuals who were always fated to be with each other. This might be my favorite release from her to date because of the way she has written Kol and Hayleigh. It had the perfect blend of romance and spice that the author has always been known for through her work. Despite their rough start with each other, I loved seeing these two slowly start to care and fall in love with each other. In addition, I also enjoyed the push/pull relationship between these two because it further heightened their sexual chemistry and love scenes. It was incredibly erotic, dirty, angsty, and intense.

"A man like me was meant to rule, not to love. That was my destiny."

The story starts out with Hayleigh, who was an ordinary young woman until she discovers her family's secrets and is eventually kidnapped by Kol—who needs her to save his kingdom. What made this kidnapping even more intriguing is that Kol has done this to previous women in Hayleigh's bloodline and they have all been deeply traumatized by it. However, it soon becomes clear to Kol that Hayleigh is different and that there is something special about her to him. As they begin to spend more time with each other and he claims her innocence, Kol wants to keep her for himself and realizes that he is in love with Hayleigh. But, fate has other plans in store for them.

""I will give you everything if you only agree to be mine.""

In the end, I thoroughly enjoyed Kol and Hayleigh's incredibly steamy and romantic story as they discover and fell in love with each other. This book does have some elements that might be offensive to some readers but that did not detract from how much I liked this book. I was captivated by their love scenes and the danger that came with Kol's intensity and obsession. Fans of Sara Fields will absolutely be thrilled to read this book because it features a dominant and possessive hero who falls first and is deeply in love with his sweet and submissive heroine.

A SOLID 2.5 STARS! Do not be fooled by the "Ah-Ma-Zing" title.

THIS WASN'T BAD, BUT IN COMPARISON TO OTHERS I'VE READ, IT WAS A TRAIN WRECK. DRAGON KING WAS PURELY SMUT with spanking and disciplining kinks if you're into that sort. Personally, it got boring when there isn't much else (emotionally and plot wise) going on. There's just so much spanking you can read before you just zone out. I kid you not.

Dragon King started off promising, with the male lead being a powerful, arrogant alpha-hole and our heroine was a fighter. I enjoyed the rising chemistry/sexual tension until everything descended into...a comical disaster of editorial math for sales + marketing. If the author had given more time for the MCs to gradually develop their relationship naturally, I wouldn't have been horrified by how the almighty KOL suddenly turned into a lovesick puppy overnight when a few hours ago he was a raging God. THAT bugged me and thus, I took one star off the ratings. I love a good, protective hero but not when he loses the essence of what made his character shine.

Secondly, after they finally have sex, KOL chose to listen to his mage's poisonous assumption about our heroine being a spy sent by the enemy. UM HELLO!!! The sheer stupidity of him believing those words made me questioned his intelligence and THERE WAS NO GROVELING. There were SO MANY VALID signs (even if not cold hard evidence) that proved HAYLEIGH was innocent - point being - HE FUCKING KIDNAPPED HER HIMSELF!! If she was the enemy, I'm sure she would have been adept in sneaking her way into his kingdom. I've never read a stupider excuse to push the story into a climax.

Thirdly, I couldn't believe a mortal girl from the 21st century could suddenly wield a sword and swing it around like she's been training for the last 100 years, when she's only turned 21.

OVERALL there were a lot of horrendous GONE WRONGS that flushed this story down the drain. WHAT A WASTE OF POTENTIAL DRAGON ROMANCE!! I sob at the thought. This would have been wonderful if the plot, characters and pacing were done well, and not just FOR WRITING'S SAKE an CHURNING OUT STORIES in mind.

Hot and Spicy

I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this. I am not going to lie; I saw a snip of it on TikTok and immediately downloaded it. Sara Fields is a new to me author and I enjoyed this immensely.

This was the perfect read for me right now. I have been reading some intense plot heavy books and I needed a change, so when I saw this book on TikTok, I immediately dove in. I both enjoyed and didn’t enjoy the length of the book. On one hand the length was perfect for my current mood, short sweet and heavy on the spice, but I also feel like so much could have been done with the story if it was full length. Certain places could have been expanded on more and I would have loved to get more detail on the world we were transported to.

The characters for me both hit and miss. I absolutely love Kol. He is definitely what you would expect with a Dragon King. His personality fit and I love how he was depicted and that tail work? Sir, you need to stahp!. I couldn’t really connect with Hayleigh. At first, I could see where the author was going with her character but I felt like it’s kind of fizzled. I was expecting this head strong Alpha female type only she ended up being the opposite. I didn’t really understand her lack of development, especially with how she ends up at the end. I would have liked more push and pull between the two so we could see more personality from her.

The world is fascinating and I wish we were told more about it and had more detail about how it came to be and the layout etc. like I said before this had promise to be an amazing book if it had been full length so we could get those details and have a more fulfilled experience. But for what it is, the world build was still great. I’m still curious about it and am looking forward to seeing where it goes and when we will get to go back. Im not sure if this book is apart of a series or not but I’m looking forward to finding out and if it is, I can’t wait to explore the next book.

Heroines . . . Sometimes I really wish that their inner monologs would just shut it. It makes me wonder if I sound that indecisive and crazy about my important decisions, too. I have a really hard time liking these girls that make bad decision after bad decision, just because they don't want to deal.

"Oh shate!! I'm trapped in a mythical, parallel universe by a very angry dragon that says I have to get it on with him. NOPE!! There is no way I think every touch of his is like wildfire,
blazing along by skin. I feel totally nothing for this guy. I'm going to run away into the great UNKNOWN and face whatever perils there are to find my way home (even though I had to use dragon magic to get here -I will refuse to believe that)."

Where the hell-o Kitty does she think she will go to get home? The intergalactic train station?!? Then before she leaves the dragon comes back covered in blood after a battle, but she doesn't even ask what is going on in the surrounding area. Just takes a trip across the hellscape like she is going to picnic next to the lake of hell fire after picking ash daisies.

The MMC, he is as expects. He is a told A-hole. Enough that I almost put the book down because I couldn't hate both characters, but he grew on me as his character became more complex. The girl, alas, she could have died and I would have been okay. She was too all over the place, neurotic. And how was she not weirded out that she was sleeping with the same guy that had slept all her ancestors, including her mom, for the couple hundred years. I mean, they all ended up going crazy. Did he drive them crazy or did the situation?? It was never clarified, but so weird. Why didn't Little Miss questions everything ask that?.

really?

There are so many things wrong with this story that’s hard to know where to start. Spoilers:
Our h discovers her mother’s diary. She learns she committed suicide because something took her when she was 21 and did god knows what to her. So our h runs away to Spain to hide before whatever that thing was comes for her. When she gets to Spain, you do not feel like you are in Spain. You could be anywhere. No mentioned of euros v $ or of food or sights that are specific to Spain. She could have been in the middle of nowhere anywhere. For that, why waste those pages. She was fine in CT.

Then we find that the man that comes for her is the same man that took her mother. Never in the entire book is this addressed. I would want answers. Why me? What did you do to my mom that made her want to kill herself? And I would think there would be a turnoff.

Then the plot unfolds sort of strange. When the king “interrogates” her about being a spy, which, how could she when he kidnapped her, but when did he get so angry. He kicks her out? Doesn’t lock her in The dungeons? Is he an idiot king?

When he comes to her rescue, she just forgives him? She was with the bad guys an entire week. She was weak and dehydrated. And to top it all off, while a huge battle is going on where the king is desperately needed, he flies off to have his way with her? Like… I guess he’s an idiot king.

Just like his sudden anger wasn’t told right, neither was his change of heart. The author should have started the story with the h getting the necklace the night before her birthday, getting kidnapped and then used those extra pages to flesh that part of the plot out.

Disappointing, it sounded like it had potential.

...a centuries-old dragonborne alpha male, king of a different world ...destined to kidnap/capture/use each generation of the Ward Females' Line over & over to use their combined magic to heal the rift between realms of Blazelheim and beyond. A young 20 yr old woman - days before of her birthday & on winter break from college will literally be coming face-to-face with her latent magical destiny in the form on one dragonborne alpha king.

Hayleigh, running away from Kol in the forest, captured, she fully sees him fir the first time...

"...He appeared to be human, but only just. His irises were bright red and if I looked close enough, I could see tiny flames flickering inside of them ... A thick, dark beard covered his mouth, but the ends of his hair glowed dimly like burning embers. His hair was long enough to reach his shoulders, which only made his unnatural gaze smolder that much brighter ... His scent surrounded me. All at once, I was cast in a world of smoke and ash..."

Dragon King by Sara Fields has dark fantasy magical themes, a|| types of sizzling s€x 🔥🥵, some Beauty & the Beast snippets, sprinkled c@pt¡ve/c@pt○r tr○pes infused with *all* of Sara's trademark r○ugh s€xual elements 😏 (Read the TWs!) all balanced with small emotional moments of tenderness & love. I definitely enjoyed reading about Kol & Hayleigh! Sara knows how to bring out the sexual tension and the beautiful submission that follows. What will happen between Kol & Hayleigh? You will have to read Dragon King to find out! (...aaaaannnnddd it looks like their will be more stories coming from this dark fantasy world!!) 😊🌴🌺 I received an ARC thru Booksprout for my honest review.

-000000.0 stars and song I am my own grandpa is stuck in my head

Okay welp where do you start? As I was reading this with astonishing disbelief the song I am my own grandpa started playing on repeat . Not that this resembled the song in any way but the close family intermarriage in the song kinda struck me as
I was reading this.
So we have a dragon shifter that's gotta close something by finding his mate? Not to sure as I obsessively started skipping when I got the point of him having sex with her entire female line as well as her mother . 😖. ( somehow this did not click when I was reading the about this book ..bad Ray ..bad Ray 👀 ) Now I didn't follow the line yo see who in her line did it but the hint of abuse was there as her mother was gone 6 months and was depressed .I figure ( even if the writer didn't mean for it to be why) that after being taken and really I don't know ..beat ,force , didn't want to leave Dragon or seduced ....who knows ,that when she got back she realized her daughter would be taken and have the same experience that her mom just had.

I really enjoyed this at the beginning as there was quite a bit of humor. To me, at least, the storyline tapered off to practically only sex scenes once Kol decided to deflower Hayleigh. Sex including pain might be okay once in awhile but Every. Single. Time? And not just a little but the kind that causes Hayleigh to black out. Kol seems excessively brutal when he takes her virginity, not only vaginally but when he vanquishes her ass. Yeah, he can fuck forever since he’s a supernatural but if he loves her as he claims he might show a little restraint. I guess she likes it so whatever. It seems silly that she’s embarrassed by her nudity after all the violent sex she and Kol have engaged in.

King Kol banishes Hayleigh because he believes she has betrayed the kingdom. She is escorted out of the city by Elysia (the real spy) When the battle breaks out at the rift. Hayleigh morphs into some kind of being with feathery wings. How did her new armor adapt? Are her wings visible at all times or is she able to retract them? I get the impression that they’re constantly out in the open.

Kol said he’s been ruling for 400 years. That means Hayleigh’s mother and other female ancestors had sex with him to close the rift. Doesn’t that bother Hayleigh at all, especially since it was the reason her mother committed suicide? No resentment at all? There's also a lack of consistency in the amount of time her ancestors were absent from hearth and home. “Some of them were gone for simply a few hours. Others were gone for a week, or months--there was even one that vanished for a whole year.” Why the differences? Inquiring minds want to know.

“You are destined for me. That is a fate you cannot fight.” - Dragon King by Sara Fields

When Hayleigh learns that her mother died due to a mysterious kidnapping, she is determined to escape the fate that every woman in her family suffers from. Yet she cannot outrun Kol, the dragon shifter king of Blazelheim. And he’s determined to use Hayleigh to save his world no matter the cost. But some things must come to an end, and enemy forces are on the rise. Can Hayleigh and her king’s love survive it?

Did someone call for a dragon daddy who is a glutton for victory and punishment? This supernatural shifter romance by Sara Fields has our heroine not only discovering a world of magic and mayhem, but also a new submissive side to her that craves the merciless attention of the most powerful dragon in all of the realms. And oh, how he is happy to oblige.

Kol is, without a doubt, the kinkiest supernatural MMCs this bookkeeper has read since the Halloween Boys and our favorite small town demon Leon. Possessive, equally parts degrading and praise, and wanting to make you burn with just a touch or a lick, this King Kol is a very merciless soul that will have readers lining up outside the royal bedroom for their turn at riding the big bad dragon.

The story does leave you with more questions than answers by the time we reach the end, however, as we only get a glimpse into the worlds mentioned, the other characters, and the history of why Hayleigh’s family gets abducted every generation. As for the romance, it felt a bit rushed around the second half, leaving this bookkeeper wanting just a bit more than our HEA provided.

While Kol and Hayleigh’s romance may have come to an end, hopefully we might get to revisit Blazelheim or another world in another installment.

Final Smut Archive assessment: Who needs wax when you have a dragon’s seed?

I received an Advanced Reader Copy and am voluntarily reviewing it. Hayleigh Ward is alone over Christmas holiday and her birthday and stuck in a storm. She finds her mom’s things in the basement while searching for a flashlight. She found a beautiful ruby necklace and a journal. The journal talked of a journey that all Ward women took on their 21st birthday but did not go into detail of exactly what the journey entailed. Hayleigh decided that this journey was not on her list to do and went to a cabin to hideaway.

Destiny can not be thwarted. Hayleigh’s destiny came in the form of Kol, the Dragon King. The prophesy states that he must lay with a human woman in the Ward family to keep his kingdom safe. He has done this for centuries. Hayleigh was different from all the others from the very beginning. Their meeting started with a punishment being doled out.

Will the prophesy be fulfilled? This book is full of magic and monsters, kings and queens. All faithful to something whether it be good or bad. This fast-paced story is action packed and will take readers on an unexpected wild ride. The attraction between Kol and Hayleigh will leave readers panting. Sara Fields makes you comfortable with situations that are uncomfortable. She has definitely made a believer out of me and found a fan for life.

Hayleigh Ward is having a lousy birthday/holiday break. Her Dad isn’t here to celebrate with her and she is stuck in the home alone. When she stumbles across a box with information about her mom, she digs in. But it sounds like a depressed woman falling over the edge. What will happen on her 21st birthday? She isn’t going to stay in the open. She is going to hide and wait it out. But fate has other plans for her. Kol knows his fate. He has to come for the human female. Humans are beneath him. But something about Hayleigh intrigues him. These two are linked by a magic that holds both their realms. Was it all this time that the King never found the true mate that would seal the darkness. There are a few unanswered thoughts. Was he around when her mother was alive? Or was that a prior king? Hayleigh has no idea about what is going on. Thank goodness for all these kinds of naughty readings that she is accepting. She brings out a softer side of Kol. I wasn’t too happy with him at one point. I was as hurt as Hayleigh as well as offended. He let his anger dictate his path and almost lost the treasure that he needed. And what a shock to what happens during the battle. Did not see that coming. And the bonus was great. I was wondering if there would be more to the story since there were other kings.

Wow…sit back get comfortable hang on once you start you won’t stop until the last page has been turned. Hayleigh feisty, sassy, doesn’t just take it laying down especially after finding the dark secret concerning her family for centuries the dragon king has been taking the women and bringing them back so broken, they are just a shadow of themselves never to gain back who they were before they were taken. Kol sexy as all get out dragon needing to find the right one to help save his kingdom so kidnapping women of the bloodline is his only choice and so when he takes Hayleigh hope that she is the one soon realizing she isn’t like the others. She is unique, special everything he could want in a women claiming her innocence was just the start for him to realize he has fallen for her, she is his mate but will she ever feel the same for a man who basically introduced himself by way of punishment, she wants answers as to why the other women came back broken, where are they headed because fate has thrown some things in their path, will she be the calming force she needs to be for him, will she learn her magic in time, and is there a HEA for these two?.

Thank you to Talk Spicy 2 Me and Sara Fields for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is kind of a mix between what you’d imagine historical romance and shifter/PNR romance would be.

Hay Leigh is a normal girl who’s at her fathers place for her holiday break at school as well as her 21st birthday. However, her dad isn’t there (typical).

Kol is the dragon king of Blazelheim. He’s a dragon shifter so most of the time he’s in human form but can shift to a dragon when he needs to protect his realm from the portal that’s splicing it’s way open.

In order to close it, temporarily, he needs to take what’s his. Hayleigh.

This was a pretty decent shifter romance. I’d say a 3.5 out of 5 (rounding up for GoodReads). The spice is like a 3/4 out of 5. There’s probably 75% spice and 25% plot.

Things I didn’t like were; for how long this book is, there’s not too much of a story. Or at least it didn’t feel like it? Not a lot of back story for Kol or his world. More so backstory for Hayleigh but still not much.

The quickness with which their romance blossomed was odd, but not unheard of.

All in all, a good shifter romance.

What mystery plagues all the Ward women on their twenty-first birthday? Why do they disappear for an indeterminate length of time? Hayleigh is way too close to her own birthday. Will she be able to remain calm until she discovers the truth? Why do the returning women speak of dragons and elves?

Kol is the king of Blazelheim. He is a dragon shifter. His goal is to protect his realm and people from attack by Helheim, the Dark King. Somehow, the Ward women help to balance the rift between lands. But Hayleigh determined attitude is different. Her anger and defiance intrigues Kol. He is forced to punish her because of her aggression, but he does not want to harm her. The longer they are together, the more they come to care for each other.

This is an erotic and salacious story of an experienced dragon shifter who longs to entice and care for a strong, sensitive virgin human. Will she learn to accept her yearning for the dragon king as well as her devastating craving for pain mixed with her pleasure? Will Kol and Hayleigh find a way to combine their talents to save Blazelheim?
