Aiden Stone is a six-foot-two former Marine with a permanent scowl, dark hair, and dreamy blue eyes.
He’s the oldest of the Stone brothers, and his “by the book” family has battled mine for control of our small town for generations.
The last thing I should do is sleep with him. Or nearly run him down with my truck. Especially since he's sort-of my new boss...
It doesn’t help that my grandmother (the mayor) is a former magician, and my mom is a psychic (sort-of)... And my dad died in a failed escape-artist attempt (that my mother is convinced was a murder).
Trust me, I know crazy, but I’m just plain ole Britt Bailey, Shania Twain-loving, non-magical forensic photographer. Yes, I take pictures of dead things, but I don’t see them in my bedroom at night.
I only want to see one thing in my bedroom at night, and when I’m called home to help Sheriff Stone on an investigation, he actually stops frowning for a minute, and my teenage fantasies get very real.
It’s a terrible idea. We work together, he’s seven years older than me, he’s a single dad, he hates all things magic, but a little taste, and we can’t say no.
Until the town crime wave turns personal, putting everything on the line, and we’ll need more than a magic bullet to get our happily ever after.
(A LITTLE TASTE is a small-town, grumpy single-dad romance with a touch of light suspense and lots of tasty spice. No cheating. No cliffhanger.)

"I’ve found the place where my nightmares end, and my dreams come true." I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I’m in my small-town romance era. When you add a grumpy sheriff, who just so happens to be a single dad, and a nice mystery to the mix, it’s pretty much irresistible. Apologies for the pun, but just "a little taste" of this book would never be enough for me! How would I be able to stop myself from turning the pages?
"Aiden Stone is the hottest man alive—People magazine just hasn’t found him yet." You know, Aiden is one of those heroes I always love. A law-abiding, small-town sheriff with a touch of loving single dad… and a dirty mouth. And yeah, he knows what to do with it too. His kid is adorable as well, but finding a way into his heart with his past is not gonna be that easy.
"All I know is I’ve never felt this way for a woman. She could hurt me in a way no one ever has, and I don’t like it." Britt left town to study and, due to a recent wave of vandalism, is asked to come back. She’s a crime scene photographer, which means she has to work up close and personal with Sheriff Stone—the guy she’s always wanted but never had. Maybe it’s time to shift gears. Or, as her favorite singer Shania Twain would say, she’s gonna get him—good!
"I won’t sleep tonight if I don’t taste your lips." As soon as she’s back in town, she almost runs him over—not a good start at a new job, right? And he’s not so nice to her because there’s this thing between their families… and also because he’s struggling to take his eyes off her. Britt? She’s making everyone fall in love with her while trying hard not to imagine the things she could do with her new boss… if only…
"What do you want?" "Something I can’t have." "Why can’t you have it?" "He doesn’t know I exist." "Look at me. He knows." To be fair, he’s technically not her boss. To be fair, his kid is absolutely in love with her. To be fair, she wants him, so all he needs to do is give in. Yes, her mom is a tarot card reader, and he despises anything to do with magic. But while there are so many reasons for them not to go there, there are also twice as many for them to do it. And is it hot? If you know Tia Louise’s work, you already know it is. I’m sure they broke some noise regulations in the process.
"Sleeping together is still a bad idea. But I’m liking it more and more." Something fishy is going on in their small town, though. Stuff is getting stolen, produce is getting destroyed, and then someone dies. Adding to that, Britt’s dad’s death was never fully resolved. What can they do to solve this mystery? And will it bring them closer or destroy them in the process?
I absolutely LOVED his brothers (Alex is my favorite already, so dibs!) and her friends are the kind you wish you had had growing up. The small-town folk are pretty awesome too—I wouldn’t mind living there.
"Now get upstairs and get naked. The only place you’re going is to bed with me." Trust doesn’t come easy for Aiden—and I understand why. I think he doesn’t believe in magic because he doesn’t believe in love, which is its own brand of magic anyway. But as Britt keeps infiltrating a heart that he thought was dead, you see what an awesome guy he is. Even if I would have liked to shake him a couple of times for him to stop being blind.
"With enough love, you can do anything. You can change your life. You can even change your mind. It only took a little taste to find the love of a lifetime." Tia Louise spins a web that takes us across town, from real-life stuff to tarot cards, from a very real murder to a dream-like ferris wheel ride, from zero faith in anything to believing there is magic in the world. And it sometimes comes in the shape of someone who shows you how to love again.
This has all the fun, all the great banter, and all the spice!
Britt and Aiden were fire together! I had so much fun watching them fall in love. While this is full of explosive chemistry and laugh out loud moments, this couple had some real issues to overcome both separately and as a couple. The angst was relatively low up until that point but when things took a turn, my heart shattered. This book really hit me in all the feels and it’s been a long time since that’s happened.
Along with all the falling in love, there was a mystery that started out relatively light but was layered on top of other lightweight crimes. However, that soon changed and Britt and Aiden were faced with real danger. I tried to figure out who the who-done-it was but failed with each guess. And holy heck, I bit my nails completely off before I reached the conclusion.
As if the romance and mystery weren’t enough, this story is laced with quirky characters that I loved and I want soooo much more of them! Thankfully, this is the first in a series of standalones that will be set in this small town.
such a perfect quick, spicy, and suspenseful read!
britt’s back in her small town to help investigate a series of crimes happening and who does she get to work with? the extremely hot, single dad sheriff. their two families have been rivals for years so between the case and their families, there’s a lot standing in their way.
this book couldn’t have released at a better time. sweet and spicy with an adorable kid and dog and the suspense really kept me hooked the whole way.
I really enjoyed the characters, Aiden and Britt. They were fun to read about. And I liked the dual POV too. Plus the mystery aspect was a nice touch too. Overall this was a fun story to read and it’s good vibes, sexy talk from Aiden and the cute moments from Owen (Aidens son). —single dad —small town romance —insta lust ~30% in is the first spice scene —HEA
But there were a few things that threw me off.
There was a lot of dialogue & information that didn’t flow with the story super well. I also wasn’t a fan of some of the things Aiden said to Britt in the bedroom. It made me uncomfortable and wasn’t my cup of tea. For the most part, I did enjoy his sexy talk but there were a few things that weren’t for me.
Overall, this was a quick romance about a sheriff and a detective that was fun to read with lots of good spice and a great HEA.
dnf at 32%. idk if there was a single good thing about this book other than how adorable owen is. i was either unaware or overlooked the fact that this man was in the marines so red flag 1. red flag 2 is that this feels like copaganda, yk damn well a cop wouldn’t try that hard to solve crimes. 3 yk the grown woman lowkey saying a child is attractive. 4 the fact that every time he describes her it’s blonde and nice ass nothing else. 5 the fact that if this man was my boss i would be going straight to hr, idc how attractive he is and “grumpy” he is. 6, the fact that a grown man is yelling at a child for an innocent mistake a 7 year old would make that isn’t the end of the world. 7, the fact that they cant even work together without saying how much they wanna fuck and its two seconds in. and there’s probably so many more i just dont care enough to keep going.
This book was just perfect for me. I get crazy all over when the story includes a hot sexy sheriff of a small town and his love interest being a strong heroine that doesn't let people walk over her.
To be honest this book reminded me of The Coppersmith Farmhouse and this is why I went right in with the story. Also, I had so much fun reading it, especially in the beginning. Since their first meeting, the sparks were flying. And I was enjoying the ride 😁.
Britt's family were a little strange, but with them the story just became better. And she is also very good at her job. Which made her even more irresistible for Aiden. I know that he was trying to resist her with everything he got, but then again how can you not resist her. She is just perfect. And let me tell you something...the spicy scenes between them...OMG they were so so good 🥵🥵🥵. The love, the passion, the fire...everything was just how I expected it to be and even more. I am so happy that I had the chance to read their story and I can't wait for the next books from the series.
I received an ARC and this is my voluntary review.
When I saw the blurb for the book, I got excited. I love a spicy romance with a suspense or mystery element, so I really thought this would be up my alley. I’ve only read one other book by Tia Louise, which I DNF’ed. That was two years ago, and I didn’t remember my reasoning, so I just ignored that. I have a feeling, now that I’ve read this one, that it was just due to the way TL structures their books. It felt a little all over the place and not as fleshed out as it could be. I was genuinely surprised when I reached about the 80% mark, not because I was so sucked in, but because I didn’t feel like a ton had happened.
That brings me to my number 1 issue with this book: Aiden and Britt. They got together pretty quickly, which didn’t really bother me because it was a physical thing, not like they were instantly in love. However, unless it all happened off page, I do not understand how the relationship was anything other than physical. We never really see them talk outside of work; we just see them have sex. I felt like Britt had more of an emotional connection to Aiden’s son, Owen, than she did with Aiden himself. Also, if Aiden mentioned how young Britt was one more time, I was going to lose my mind. She was a whole ass adult (28), just like he was (35). He acted like he’s 20+ years older than her, and it drove me absolutely insane.
The mystery element was fine. I just wish we would’ve gotten a little more of that or maybe more of her mom’s magic. I really thought that was going to be more important than it was. I just feel like more details could’ve been added to make this book so much better. I really wanted to love it, but it just didn’t hit the mark. Overall, it was fine. It didn’t take me long to read, and I may go in for the other books as they’re released if I need something light to read.
I was excited to read this one because it seemed like it had a hint of romantic suspense especially when a forensic photographer gets invited back to her hometown to help the sheriff figure out who is causing all this crime around town. I enjoyed the audiobook!
We get bits of magic, family bonds, and sweet friendships.
It definitely kept me intrigued & I couldn’t wait until we got all the answers we were dying to know!
Owen was so sweet & I loved the relationship he had with both Britt & Edward (her cutie pup). Aiden was a sweet dad and so broody i just couldn’t help but love him…especially with that dirty mouth ;) ow owwww
Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5
Tropes: Single dad Small town Workplace romance Boss x employee Forced proximity Age gap (7 years)
Unfortunately this book didn’t work out so well for me. Lots of love out there for it but I really struggled to get into it. There wasn’t anything that grabbed my attention and I wasn’t invested in the story. HEA? More HFN. Cheating? No ( Not between H/h)
If there’s one thing I love it’s a small town single father romance, and yet this book didn’t deliver.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved Owen and Aiden. They were so cute and we understand why Aiden is so cold and protective. He was lied to he’s lost so much and he just wants to protect his son and his town. He’s a good man who just needs to open his heart.
Britt on the other hand. Has this big “returned home” moment and like she hasn’t even been gone for a year, but they treat it like that. You would think she turned her back on this town a decade ago, and honestly I would have preferred that. When Aiden mentions how he never saw her in the same light he does now she mentions that she was a lot younger then. No she wasn’t, she was literally home 6 months ago. She was an adult then, she’s an adult now.
Her mom is crazy, her grandma is unfit to be a mayor, you got Aiden working with people who don’t care about facts and on top of that Britt is never held accountable. She’s unfit to do her job, she’s a liability and she sure as heck shouldn’t be on a case where there is a conflict of interest. When Aiden is justified in his anger everyone babies her. This whole book is everyone babying Britt because “she made a mistake”
It’s strange how everyone is with Aiden, including his brother. They just all jump to the defense of Britt because she’s sorry. Aiden is the sheriff and Britt lost her credibility.
The best part of this book was the small town aspects, little busy body characters and Aiden’s family. The worst part was the psychic’s I think it could have been written in a way that didn’t paint them as unhinged and crazy who didn’t listen to reason. I wished that if we were gonna have a huge crime to solve it was executed better.
I don't know what it is but something was missing for me in this book. I didn't connect with the the MCs and I can't find the spark or chemistry between them. But maybe that's a me case.
They've known each other since it was a small town. But they only felt that connection six months ago when Britt was about to leave their town to pursue a job in a different town.
Then some mysterious things kept happening in their town where the h' grandma was a Mayor. Said grandma requested for the h to return and help with the investigation (she was a forensic photographer).
She returned then worked closely with the H. While working together they had also explore the attraction between them.
I liked the suspense part of the story. It made me think hard who was the suspect and his motives for doing those things.
But in the romance part, it felt meh. Idk, but they felt bland together. Though I have to say the steamy scenes were 🥵 no issues with those scenes.
Overall, this book made me feel hot and bothered at times but the swoon factor over the MCs wasn't there for me. Some readers may probably like this book but Aiden and Britt's story just didn't do it for me.
One of my new favorite small town romance books. The plot was focused on a criminal that was trying to hurt people in a small town. I truly enjoyed the mystery aspect of finding who the killer was and the two main characters trying to fight the attract that was between them.
While I enjoyed this book, a couple of things bothered me–though mostly subjective.
First of all, it was way too instalove for me. It’s suggested that Britt and Aiden have a past, and that it’s almost second chance, but not at all. They had one conversation, and not even a kiss. Then they meet again, and they’re in love rather quickly. Not buying it.
There’s attraction though, that I can’t deny. And once they get it on, it’s hot. I wasn’t a fan of Aiden’s dirty mouth though. I felt it wasn’t right for the character–small town sheriff and father, quite respectful of rules and all, I didn’t see how his kinky streak fit with his personality. Especially since he hadn’t dated in a long time.
Why hadn’t he? Because he’s a widower. And that’s when the author unfortunately uses one of my pet peeves, the “I haven’t loved anyone that much before, even the woman I married” (and had a kid with, in this case) trope. That Aiden’s feelings regarding his late wife had changed, I understand–and you will too when you read the book. But that he somehow denied the love he had for her altogether left me with a sour aftertaste. I don’t think that trope elevates Aiden’s feelings for Britt; for me, it just shows him as someone who would marry a woman he doesn’t really love. Not a great trait.
My last problem is very personal and subjective. The theme of this book is to believe or not to believe, what challenges faith, magic… You get the gist. The feud between Aiden’s and Britt’s families revolves around that. How and why they both decided to forego believing is more than just a common ground. It’s really a big part of the story. And it felt a bit proselytic to me.
But the characters were interesting, especially their interactions. There were great side characters too. The crimes and investigations kept me hooked. And the whole small town and its long history were quite enjoyable. I can’t wait to read more about it.
Quickie
- Series: standalone - Hashtags: #romantic suspense #small town romance #age gap #single dad #family feud - Triggers: murders, mention of cheating - Main couple: Britt Bailey & Aiden Stone - Hotness: 5/5 - Romance: 3/5 - + nice introduction to a new town and its folks - – love came way too fast, in my opinion
This is a new author to me and let me tell you, this will not be the last book I read from her 🤎
The story takes us to a small town where there is a dispute between two families and our main characters are part of it Aiden Stone and Britt Bailey, the Bailey family is "magical" but Aiden is not a believer so he has a certain aversion to them. I liked the story of this couple, when a crime wave attacks the town, she comes to help the sheriff solve the case, what they don't know is that there is a big mystery; and the tension between them? I LOVED it, also that it has VERY little drama and I felt it more than necessary.
This book hooks you up from the beginning, it has everything I love to read: a former SEAL, single dad and grumpy!!!! a mystery and a nosy little town.
I already want to know a lot more about the other Stone brothers ´cause come on, I feel like I'm going to love them ❤️🩹🥺
🫂thank you @authortlouise and @greyspromo for gave me this arc in exchange for my honest review 📚!!

This book had all my favorite tropes—small town, grumpy/sunshine, single dad. There was also a murder mystery thrown in there, but the romance between Aiden and Brit was the main focus of this book.
I absolutely loved Brit and Aiden was the hot, grumpy (yet lovable underneath it all) sheriff. They had intense chemistry right from the beginning and I was glad that this was not a slow burn (everything seems to be a slow burn lately🙄). They act on their attraction around 35% or so. It was a very hot and intense scene. Once they get together, there is still a great amount of tension between them. They work together, so they try to keep their distance, but they really can’t keep their hands off each other. Things do not stay hunky dory for long though.
The way things played out was suspenseful and intense and totally kept me glued to this book. I also want to say that I loved his son Owen so much. He was funny and adorable. He was a huge presence in this book and I loved every scene he was in.
this was so good it made my chest hurt!! aiden and britt were destined to be together from their very first conversation. they connected immediately and even when they were apart, they were drawn together and always on each others minds. he’s such a grumpy broody ass and she’s such an underestimated badass sunshine girl and i love her with my whole heart and soul 🥺 the way these two love each other is so heartwarming i love it here
i loved the relationship britt had with aiden’s son owen as well as with one of aiden’s brothers who she was close with in school. the small town dynamic was perfect and fun and the suspense part of the plot was done so well it made me ANXIOUS in the best way.
so so so glad my best friend got me into this series & i can’t wait to read more!!!
This book was very intriguing and wild. I saw one person talk about it and immediately downloaded because of the single dad trope. Immediately I was hooked and interested.
Britt and Aiden families are rivals but they now work together. I enjoyed their relationship but I wasn’t as connected to the characters. Aiden was mean to britt a little too much without being apologetic towards her family. And I needed more about Britt and her mom’s relationship. It felt like we got some parts but no closure?
A good standalone that has it's spice and plot... but the small town was a little too small town for me lol...
They ruined the pickle farm!
Aiden is a former marine turned police officer for their small town. Britt is in town to help solve a case after leaving and becoming a forensic photographer. She's bringing her skills to assist in solving who is damaging the farm of the residents in the small town. The families of the two do not get along as Britt's family does magic and cards and Aiden's family is more factual. Both have family members that died. Good drama and case solving with plot.
Idk if you’ve ever seen those weird cat cafe detective / psychic books on kindle with the purple funny cartoony colors - this book is exactly like what I imagine those would be like and entirely not my thing.
Also, the main characters relationship was very fake. I didn’t like any of the characters in general. They seemed like they were written by a stale 60 year old. And to top it off there was this part where the female mc lies to the male mc about something huge and he’s told he’s over reacting and to forgive her and he should’ve ran tbh
3.75 ⭐️ A quick & fun small town romance, with a side of mystery. I felt a little disconnect between Britt & Aiden. I wish they had more of a backstory than him not really noticing her until later in life, even when she was best friends with his brother. Like when did his attraction to her start? But overall a quick, slow burn small town romance read.
Thank you to the Author Agency for sending this book for my honest review
I don’t know about this one. I enjoyed some things and disliked others.
POV: Dual, 1st person. SERIES or STANDALONE: Standalone. TROPES: M/F adult, age gap, work colleagues, single dad, small town romance with a bit of mystery. SIZE: LOC4223 (last page) Kindle pages. CHARACTERS: Aiden (35) & Britt (28).
PLOT: 📚📚📚📚/5 ROMANCE: ❤️❤️❤️❤️/5 SPICE/STEAM: 🌶🌶.5/5 DARKNESS/TRIGGERS: 😈/5 (death of parent, taken captive)
I wanted to 4 star this because Tia Louise gives me good book boyfriends and decent sizzle. But I couldn't. Le sigh. 3.5 stars.
And it's mostly because I have nothing else to add 😅 it hit, but it wasn't a show stopper. Easy, breezy, with some spice. Amd a lot of Shania Twain references (which was a bonus bc Shania is iconic).
A Little Taste by Tia Louise is the story of Aiden Stone and Britt Bailey. Aiden is a singled dad that is the local sheriff. Who has the reputation of being grumpy. Britt is a forensic photographer whose family clashes with Aiden some. But Aiden and Britt come together to do some detective work which make their attraction undeniable. Enjoyed
Aiden and Britt! I loved this story. Small age gap (7 years) . I loved how vulnerable Aiden was. He's trying to solve some crimes in their town and Britt comes to help him out where obviously their attraction came full force. He has trust issues...she doesnt want to hurt him. He's a single dad and afraid to have anyone close to his son. LOVED their relationship. Great story and I love all things Tia Louise.
A Little Taste is true Tia Louise magic. It’s funny, sweet, entertaining side characters and steamy romance.
Aiden and Britt’s dynamic has workplace romance, he’s a single dad, forced proximity, spice, steam, angst and funny moments. He’s a bit older than her and he’s into her but he’s also her boss, sort of but the angst? The tension? The “we shouldn’t do this” and The mutual pining? Delicious. I ate it up! And like any good small town romance whats a book without some colorful characters? I felt Britt so much, trying to get away from all that astrology/magic/astro stuff but it’s so funny to also see. But despite the funny lightness the book also has mystery, suspense, action, trying to find the person and trying to figure out who did it, who’s guilty and I also just loved the big family of brothers, the family closeness of always being there for each other.
It’s like tarot and magic but make it murder mystery in a small town and it’s clever, witty, keeps you guessing and with a romance between the pages that I just couldn’t think of a better pair than Aiden and Britt and her bond with his son was the absolute cutest. My heart melted every little domestic scene. I am so excited to see where this series continues because I already want to go back to that town and read all their stories. Thank you so much to Tia for the advanced copy of this book.
I was so engrossed in these two falling in love that I forgot there was a mystery to solve.
Aiden Stone is a single father, a small-town sheriff, and grumpy.
Britt Bailey is a forensic photographer who left town to make her own way.
A series of crimes prompt the mayor and Britt's grandmother to ask her to return to town to help the sheriff with the investigation. Her return to town is an eventful one that literally has her falling into Aiden's arms. He quickly puts her at arm's length, because of their family's history and because while she's here he is her boss.
When she discovers new clues at the crime scenes, they get a clearer idea of who might be responsible. Things are looking up until he finds her teaching his son a card trick and he says some not-so-nice things. His son prompts him to apologize to Britt which leads to their first kiss.
Getting together is a terrible idea but they can't seem to stay away from each other.
When the crime hits closer to home, they'll both have to fight to make their way back to each other.
Thank you so much to the author and Grey's Promo for this ARC to review.
