My reputation precedes me. There isn't anything I can't steal, acquire or covet. I own the streets of Kingston Village, and everyone knows who I am. Except for the mystery girl Boo and I spend one lustrous night with. I need to find her, but she isn't from around here. She may have been trying to fit in, but she didn't fool me.
When some rich prick tries to tempt me to find the underground club, The Lamp, I dismiss him until his phone rings, and her face flashes on the screen. He wants to throw cash at me to find something for him, except he forgets one thing Never trust a thief.
Finding The Lamp, lands me in a world I never wanted to be part of. I become the prized fighter for the mafia Don. The upside, his daughter is the girl we spent the night with.
Genie gives us an opportunity to be part of her world. Problem is she is engaged, and my best friend also has his eyes on her, and her bodyguard throws himself into the mix.
Lucky for me, sharing has never been an issue.
Street Rat is a why choose mafia standalone romance.
This book had such a promising premise… and honestly, that might be part of why I ended up so disappointed by it 🖤✨
Because an Aladdin-inspired mafia RH dark romance?? That sounds AMAZING on paper.
A gritty underworld, thieves, power plays, forbidden attraction, secret clubs, morally gray characters… there was so much potential here 🔪✨
And to be fair, the concept itself did immediately grab my attention.
The story also moved quickly enough that I never felt fully bored while reading. There was always some kind of reveal, interaction, or development pushing things forward.
But unfortunately… the execution just never fully came together for me.
The biggest issue was probably the emotional disconnect.
The romance developed SO quickly that I never truly believed in any of the relationships 💔
Instead of watching emotional tension build naturally, it felt like the characters skipped straight into attraction and intimacy before I had any reason to become invested.
And in RH especially, I really need the emotional dynamics between all the characters to feel layered and convincing.
Here, everything felt strangely underdeveloped.
The MM dynamic especially felt disconnected from the rest of the relationship structure — almost like it belonged to an entirely different story instead of naturally blending into the RH dynamic.
I also struggled a lot with the worldbuilding.
For a mafia setting filled with underground clubs, dangerous jobs, and criminal politics, the environment itself felt surprisingly vague and underdeveloped 🏙️
I kept wanting more atmosphere, more immersion, more detail.
Then there were the editing issues…
Frequent typos and grammar mistakes kept pulling me out of the story, which made it even harder to stay emotionally invested 👀
And honestly? The fairytale inspiration faded way too quickly for me.
The Aladdin premise is what initially made this stand out, but after the setup, those influences became much less noticeable.
At a certain point, it just started feeling like a fairly generic RH mafia romance with occasional fairytale crumbs sprinkled in.
I also personally struggled with the spice-to-plot balance.
Almost half the book being spice made the story itself feel overshadowed, especially because the emotional development wasn’t strong enough to support that much focus on intimacy.
That being said… I do think the creativity behind the concept deserves credit.
Because the idea itself genuinely had so much potential.
With stronger editing, deeper worldbuilding, slower emotional development, and more commitment to the fairytale elements, I honestly think this could have become something really memorable 🖤✨

✧ rating: 1.25 ✧ ✧ would I reread? definitely not ✧ will I continue the series? against my better judgment… probably 😭 ✧ emotional state: glad it’s over
✧ summary:Street Rat reimagines Aladdin as a dark RH mafia romance centered around a clever thief known only as Street Rat. After a night involving his best friend Boo and a mysterious girl, he becomes entangled in a dangerous underground world tied to the mafia, secret clubs, and shifting power dynamics. What starts as a seemingly simple job quickly spirals into a web of attraction, secrets, and criminal intrigue 🔪🖤✨

♡ THE GOOD: • The concept: an Aladdin-inspired mafia RH is genuinely such a fun and creative idea ✨ • The plot movement: despite the issues, the story moved quickly enough to keep me reading 👀 • The potential: there were glimpses of a much stronger story hidden underneath the execution 🖤
✘ THE BAD: • The editing: frequent typos and grammar issues constantly interrupted the reading experience 👀 • The underdeveloped worldbuilding: the setting never fully came alive for me 🏙️ • The character development: the characters felt emotionally static throughout most of the story • The romance pacing: everything developed way too quickly to feel convincing 💔 • The MM dynamic: felt disconnected from the RH relationship structure • The spice-to-plot ratio: the heavy focus on spice overshadowed the actual story for me personally • The missing fairytale inspiration: the Aladdin influence faded far too quickly after the setup ✨
xoxo, until the next chaotic retelling 🖤📚✨

Not only is this a Aladdin retelling, but it is a spicy, why choose, mafia Aladdin retelling!!! I ate it up!! 🙌 I loved Jazlyn and all her love interests, definitely keen for the next book
Street Rat and Boo rob a woman before running into Jaz who has snuck out of her house. She has sex with them before being found by Genie (her bodyguard) and Armando (her future husband). Coincidentaly Street Rat defends Jaz in a bar which causes Jaz’s dad to force Street Rat into a fighting cage. As his new prized fighter, Street Rat and Boo are moved into the rich lifestyle of Jaz and her Bianchi mafia family, while Armando is trying to get rid of them so they can’t compete for Jaz’s affections. At the same time it is revealed that Genie is actually undercover looking for the people who murdered his entire family. Eventually these people take Jaz and it takes everyone to rescue her. The gory deaths of Jaz’s family were such a shock to me and felt like they didn’t fit with the lighthearted and shallow story
Dislikes (1) Sista being in love with Street Rat (even though childish) taints the relationship he forms with Jaz. Jaz knows sista’s feelings then immediately goes to flirt with Street Rat because “everyone has to get their heart broken eventually.” HUH??
“she has been in love with him forever. We hoped she would grow out of it but hasn’t. He wants you too. Go break my baby sister’s heart so he doesn’t have to.” - Boo
“ I nod, but what the fuck am I doing? It should be girl power and us sticking together.” - Princess
(2) The characters are all just there for a good fuck without caring who its with. There is more chemistry between Genie and Boo (who have anal sex randomly) than Jaz and her men. Jaz sends Boo and Street rat home to keep them safe with Boo thinking that now he’s experienced group sex he’s going to research poly relationships so he can find his own. He also tells Jaz if she ever needs a quick fuck she knows where to find him. This gives off the vibes of “wish we could have stayed with Jaz but oh well, lets go home” without a second thought.
(3) They force Armando into the harem. At the end he even says he hopes that one day Jaz will realise she doesn’t want the other men, but since her father isn’t here to force her to be with him he will have to put up with the other men.

Tropes/Genres/tags: retellings Mafia RH MM Bodyguard
Jazlyn Bianchi “Princess”, 20, daughter of Salvatore Bianchi, Don of the Bianchi mafia family. Street Rat Boo, bis3xual Archer Gene Barber “Genie”, Jazlyn’s bodyguard, bis3xual Armando Vitale “Jaffa”,
What if Arabian princess Jasmine was actually Italian mafia princess Jazlyn who was desperate to escape her betrothed, Jaffa? What if Street Rat was tasked with finding the lamp, but instead of it being magic, it’s a notorious fight club? And then his monkey best friend, Boo is actually his right hand man? Both are hungry for the princess. What if Genie was actually a bodyguard in love with the princess and then Jaffar was actually Armando who isn’t even in his 30s yet but must learn to share the princess or lose her indefinitely?
I liked the storyline but there was two “big” plot holes or well I’m not sure if they are considered plot holes but they were big enough I noticed and it irritated me. One, we NEVER learn what Boo and Street Rats true names are. They are still just referred to as Boo and Street rat the entire book! Two, and maybe this is just me overthinking it because in the movie Jasmin doesn’t recognize Aladdin but Jazlyn, just like the movie, doesn’t recognize street rat. The part that didn’t make sense is in the movie Aladdin had magic to help her not recognize him, in this book there’s no magic and she doesn’t realize until she sl33ps with him for a second time who it is.
Love Aladdin but want a spicy version? Then you’ll love this book! It’s a modern retelling of Aladdin that is mafia, why choose, has MM, and is very spicy!
I love reading retellings but I’ll quickly get disappointed when you can barely tell what story it’s retelling. Thankfully this one has a lot of nods towards the original and the whole time I was reading it it felt exactly like a modern twist on Aladdin. From the names to the street rats pretending to be rich and someone they’re not, and even little quotes that they say. I really enjoyed the mafia spin on it, and why choose is always a bonus. The MM was so hot in this book!
The characters are all unique from each other and each one adds so much to the story. Jazlyn is a mafia princess arranged to marry Jaffa and all she wants is to be free to make her own decisions and live a little. She runs away one night and meets Street Rat and Boo who show her how to live on the other side of town. Her bodyguard, Genie, then comes to bring her back. From there we get an amazing story full of action, spice, some deaths, and love.
This was a really great Aladdin retelling and I’ll definitely reread it many times! If you’re a fan of the original (this was my favorite movie as a kid) then you’ll enjoy all the nods and easter eggs throughout this book. Definitely recommend this!
I loved LOVED loved this take on Aladdin! Jaz and her men were a force to be reckoned with! I just loved how throwing this story into the Mafia aspect made so much sense I hope they do a movie about this version of it lol. I loved Genie probably the most if you twisted my arm to find a favorite, but absolutely love Boo's antics and good natured sense of humor. I loved street rat's determination once he locked in on something it was as good as his. The why choose troop always makes sense to me because if you love someone you want them to be happy, pure love is unselfish, and it seemed each of these men fill a void in her life (as in most why choose books), we all have so many individual needs and it doesn't seem practical for any one person to fill them all, especially those of a Mafia Princess. Jaffa's dirty talk game was ON POINT (SUPER HOT), I didn't want to like him just based on what he stood for but as he got more and more involved in the groups exploits I found myself begrudgingly accepting him into Jaz's crew. Loved them all this was a great way to spend a weekend and I highly recommend it!
You’ve probably read Jasmine and Jafar retellings, but have you read a spicy RH Aladdin retelling? If you are wondering whether or not we need it, trust me you do! And this one is absolutely amazing! The only thing i can say is that i honestly hoped the book wouldn’t end, and truthfully i do believe it could have been made into the series, as the plot pacing was way too fast and if it was a bit slower and the book was longer it would have reached it’s full potential!
Now, get ready for a harem that you wouldn’t be able to think works but it did, and it was great! We have the Street rat - Aladdin, Boo, Genie and one more! We have a pierced dong on a dominating genie that knows how to use it and uses it not only on our Jazlyn! We have group scenes, we have one on one scenes and let’s just say that the first menage scene between Street rat, Jaz and Boo - HOT! But the scene at the Street Rat’s favourite place - HOT DAMN, even hotter!
Get ready for a wild ride, with fast paced plot, action, spice that runs hotter than lava between our characters and humour that was all thanks to Boo and his quirkiness! That man was absolute gem! You will hate some characters, some will change your mind, but overall you’ll love the story!
I received an ARC for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
*why choose *contemporary *multi-pov *fairtytale re-telling (Aladdin) *mafia *arranged marriage *rags vs riches *building harem (4) MM *fast burn 🔥 *standalone Holy smokes is this one HAWT modern retelling of Aladdin! You have all of your main characters from the fairytale in Princess (Jazlyn) the daughter of the Mafia Don, with her bodyguard Genie, and best friend Raj, we also g it and consigliere Jaffa who certainly brings out the love/hate vibe. Then there’s Street Rat and his best friend Abu … I’m sure you can guess who these are! Wasn’t expecting some of the harem to be the harem 😅 but they each have their own individual characters and quirks which is great to see! These men definitely don’t blend 😂 and the spice between them all 🥵🥵🥵 There’s plenty of action in this mafia based retelling, with some twists and turns that you don’t really see coming 🙈 this is fast paced, and beware there are some tear-jerker moments too! Jazlyn really comes into her own in this story, she kinda has too - shes definitely a badass character! A great contemp retelling of this classic!
What an engaging mafia story. I truly enjoyed this retelling. I liked how the character Genie brought the others into the mafia family, so they could be in Jazlyn’s life. I definitely did not see the twist of the last of her men. The world they created was amazing and kept me reading. Jazlyn was interesting; she would fight for what she wanted, but also knew when she had to back down. She wanted to make her own life decisions. Each of her men are unique and well written, I could not pick a favorite. This is a fast paced read that is action packed with twists and turns you definitely do not see coming. Overall it is a short spiky read that will keep you reading. I highly recommend you read this especially if you like mafia books and retellings. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Are you a fan of fairytale retellings and mafia romances? well if you answered yes then look no further as Street Rat is the perfect book for you. Aladdin retelling , dark , raw and emotional, suspense, humor , witty banter , twists and turns, humor , passion , non stop action, awesome world building, wonderfully written characters that are so unique and very multi layered and a storyline that’s guaranteed to leave you speechless, have you sitting on the edge of your seat and anticipation what will happen from one second to the next and keep you reading well into the early morning hours . Jaz and her guys grabbed onto my heart and refused to let go . I cannot remember the last time I devoured a story in just about 2 1/2 hours non stop . It’s that freaking good a few seconds a
I've read a fair few different retellings but this is the first Aladdin one that I've read. I enjoyed this book far more than I expected to, it was really unique and yet a merge of my favourite tropes. I loved Jazlyn, but when it comes to the guys, it's really hard to pick a favourite out of her men but Genie just did it for me. Boy is he HOT, the man will have you panting and salivating. That's not to say that Street Rat, Boo, and Jeff's won't have you melting... The group scenes will definitely have you reaching for your BOBs.
Street Rat is a really enjoyable, short and spicy read. I'd highly recommend for those who love a retelling and the whychoose/rh trope. Loved it!
So I have to start this by saying Aladdin has been my favorite Disney movie for years so I wasn’t sure about this book when I read the blurb. I was not disappointed at all! There are definitely some unexpected twists but there’s still a lot of Aladdin elements that I loved.
I liked Jazlyn. She just wanted her freedom but that’s not something a mafia princess can always have. I absolutely loved Boo, Street Rat, and Genie. They brought the spice and had me wanting more. Jaffa grew on me towards the end of the book.
This is such a unique fairytale retelling because I’ve never seen an Aladdin one. There’s some heartbreak, MM, and a whole lot of spice. I devoured it and just wanted more of Jazlyn and her men!!!
The best part about this book was the spice! The sex scenes were incredibly hot and really captured the essence of the relationship between the four original lovers. They also had the most readable writing of the entire novel.
The author really struggled with some writing basics including: when to use apostrophes, full stop versus comma, and contractions. The result is a difficult to read novel where sentences need to be read multiple times to parse their meaning.
I also wasn't terribly fond of the plot. I love Aladdin and the Aladdin retelling wasn't bad, but the mafia angle was a bit meh for me. Most of the characters felt incredibly one dimensional and the story didn't really seem to be about street rat at all.
I really enjoyed this Aladdin retelling with a Mafia twist. Jazlyn is a Mafia Princess who has an epically steamy night with Street Rat and Boo. These two are notorious thieves from the poorer area of town and have an instant attraction to Jazlyn.
These two aren't the only ones interested in Jaz. Genie her bodyguard and Jaffa her intended also want to be with her.
This was the first time I've read an Aladdin retelling and I really liked the twist. I devoured this book in a day and loved all the characters. Boo and Genie were an absolute delight to read about and I'm left wanting more.
This Mafia reverse harem is super steamy, full of explosive drama and is instantly addictive.
This was a pretty good read. An Aladdin retelling is something that i haven’t seen before, and especially in the why choose genre. In this book, Aladdin and his best friend Boo are just lowly street thugs. This retelling also features Jasmine as Jazlyn and she’s a mafia princess, Genie is her bodyguard and Jafar is now Jaffa, aka Armando and he and Jaz are soon to be betrothed. There’s even a MM pairing in here and I do love me some MM. this had a good heap of mafia action and I liked the story line.
Jazlyn runs away from her life for a few hours and meets Street Rat and Boo who are in full makeup masks for the parade. The three of them have an amazing experience. Jazlyn gets caught by her bodyguard Genie who brings her home. Salvatore is Jazlyn father and wants her to marry Armando who she fights with. There is mystery that needs to be solved before everyone starts disappearing. Great characters and storyline Highly recommended Amazing Book. Love Jazlyn, Genie, Street Rat. Armando, and of course Boo. There are some twists and turns, definitely some laughs, and some serious hot spice.
A sexier version of Aladdin. Only in this one Jazlyn (FMC) is a Mafia Princess that faces the prospect of an arranged marriage that she doesn't want to Armando/Jaffa. A man that she can't stand. After one steamy night she has with Street Rat and Boo it leads to more complications in her life including some hotness with her bodyguard - Genie.
I loved the dynamic Jazlyn had with the guys. Phew Boo and Genie definitely steamed up my kindle! This book was an darker, adult Aladdin with hot as hell men who made this book for me. It was such a bloody great read.
Loved it! This is a why choose mafia stand-alone romance that’s full of action, fighting against cultural/family expectations, enemies and blood/gore. I gave this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for the storyline and 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ for the group and mm steamy scenes that were 🥵 damn hot! The characters were well written, their dramatic differences were intriguing. The mystery and suspense had me completely captivated, the death, murder and mafia mayhem had me on the edge of my chair. That ending was honestly perfect. Overall a fantastic book.
Such and original and interesting retelling or a darker version of Aladdin. There was twists, suspense, humor and steam! The spicy scenes were hot too!! I loved each of the characters and the banter between them. Jaffa, Genie, Street Rat, and Boo were each unique and meant something to Jazlyn. Jaz was smart and sassy. I think she grew throughout. Together, Jaz and her guys were a family. What a great read!
This is a retelling of the Aladdin tale with a spicy, mafia why choose twist. It is one of my favourite stories in this series so far. I loved the characters and the twists on them from the original story especially Genie! Once I started I could not put it down, the storyline is gripping it is filled to the brim with drama, twists, turns and spice including some MM. It is a dark romance so please check you TW/CW before reading.
These two authors separately are off the charts but together holy cow. This is a dark Aladdin retelling with some RH and mafia themes thrown in. This book is so good that it will hold your attention and keep you on the edge of your seat from the beginning until the very last page. It will seriously leave you wanting more. This book is in my top 5 favorites right now. I couldn't get enough. I will be seriously recommending this book often.
Street Rat, Boo and Genie all had me hooked from the start as they become more and more infatuated with Jazlyn. The Maffia Princess is not putting up with anything less than what she wants and thats all of them plus Jaffa too. Many things go wrong, but then there's the spice...it's hot! I loved how they all bring out the best in each other! And how they connected even though they were from opposite sides of the track. A great read!
This was an amazing adaptation of Aladdin. I absolutely loved these characters and the plot driven storyline was great. Jaz and her men were amazing! And I loved the mafia aspect thrown into the storyline. This had a great plot and was an amazing read I was sucked in from the beginning and didn't want it to end.
Love , love , love this spin / retelling of one of my favourite Disney films. This book as a mafia why choose spin. I don't have a favourite in the guys they're all delicious. This book was short but very spicy , the scenes in this book are Hot. I would definitely recommend this book it was amazing.
I think out of all the books that I have read, this one is by far my favorite just because it’s a retelling of Aladdin which is my fav. If you’re into mm mmf and some certain anatomy with piercings and 💦💦😉 then I would recommend to read as soon as it comes out . It’s a book you’re going to want to read and wish for more 🥲🙃
Aladdin retelling?! Hell yessss! This version is twisted into the mafia and I AM HERE FOR IT! Jaz, and her wanting what she wants, not taking anything less, or anyone’s shit… my type of girl! The guys Jaffa, Genie, Street Rat and Boo…. Loved how they were each different but fit together so nicely for Jaz! Loved everything about this retelling!! It hit on a lot of things, growth happened, healing, and love. With a lot of bad assery. 5 stars!!!
I loved this!! Modern Aladdin retelling with a mafia twist. I love Jazlyn and all of her men. Genie, dominating, protective, and pierced—-and he knows how to use it VERY well 🥵🥵 Street Rat, Boo, and Jaffa round out the harem. There are some very spicy scenes, some mm action, a fast paced plot with some twists and turns, and over all a fantastic story that I enjoyed thoroughly!
