Imagine starting each day feeling optimistic, clear on your priorities, and proud of where you are in life. Imagine feeling confident to go after the bold goals that inspire you.
For most of us, this seems like a pipedream or something to hope for “someday.” We’re mired in what seems “urgent” and feel stuck or uninspired. We think, “If I keep pushing and making sacrifices, maybe someday I’ll arrive in a better place where life is easier and I’m happier.”
The 5 Power Principles in Fast Forward offer a simple, proven system that can help you make “someday” today. Backed by psychological research and brain science, and used by more than 100,000 people around the world, the 5 Power Principles help you define where you want to be in one year, professionally and personally, and then make it happen.
• Declare a bold vision for your whole life that creates focus and ignites you to play big and move beyond limiting beliefs. • Reframe negative stories that hold you back into empowering narratives that propel you forward. • Create an action plan to take control of your time and energy and make steady progress on important goals. • Use language of action to produce meaningful results and improve relationships. • Become a conscious, curious listener who is free from solving other people’s problems.
For more than a decade, Wendy Leshgold and Lisa McCarthy have trained people at some of the world’s leading companies to achieve extraordinary success and happiness. In Fast Forward, they share compelling stories from real people who used their system to make their boldest ambitions happen. Through powerful exercises that generate insight and action, they’ll help you do the same.

Wendy Leshgold is the cofounder and president of the Fast Forward Group. Prior to Fast Forward, she spent more than a decade in advertising, leading teams at Ogilvy & Mather, BBDO, and Deutsch, where she worked with brands including Apple, Kodak, IBM, Bank of America, and Mitsubishi. She experienced firsthand the challenges people face in high pressure, fast-paced corporate environments. Wendy felt compelled to help, so she launched a successful executive coaching practice. A decade later, she joined forces with her childhood friend Lisa McCarthy, who had a similar passion. Together, they designed a simple, actionable system to help people achieve success and fulfillment in their whole lives. Since 2013, Fast Forward Group’s programs and executive coaching have transformed the careers and lives of more than 100,000 professionals at leading companies, including Google, Meta, Amazon, TikTok, JPMorgan Chase and Colgate. Wendy is a highly active board member of California Environmental Voters, and she uses the 5 Power Principles to fuel that team and accelerate its mission. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband, three children, and two dogs.
This does a good job of framing some psychological barriers people have to changing things that aren’t working for them (specifically discussing limiting beliefs and desired outcomes). It also gives very concrete ways to creat change (love the idea of a communication template for important communication). I liked this so much I bought the workbook too!

Fast Forward: 5 Power Principles to Create the Life You Want in Just One Year by Wendy Leshgold & Lisa McCarthy
In a world that often feels like it’s moving at breakneck speed, Wendy Leshgold and Lisa McCarthy offer a refreshing pause and a plan to not just keep up, but to leap forward. “Fast Forward: 5 Power Principles to Create the Life You Want in Just One Year” is a book that promises transformation through intentionality, and it delivers with a blend of personal anecdotes, psychological research, and actionable strategies.
The book is structured around five core principles that serve as a roadmap for readers looking to make significant changes in their lives. The authors’ approach is both holistic and pragmatic, emphasizing the importance of a clear vision and the power of storytelling in shaping one’s future.
Principle 1: Declare a Bold Vision - The authors encourage readers to be specific and audacious in their goals. By envisioning a detailed and vibrant picture of success, one can create a compelling narrative that not only motivates but also attracts the necessary support and resources.
Principle 2: Reframe Your Stories - Leshgold and McCarthy delve into the psychology of self-talk, urging readers to transform negative narratives into empowering beliefs. This principle is about taking control of the inner dialogue that can often derail our best intentions.
Principle 3: Control Time and Energy - Recognizing that time is a finite resource, the book offers strategies to manage it effectively. The focus is on prioritizing tasks that align with one’s vision and learning to say no to distractions.
Principle 4: Use the Language of Action - The authors assert that the words we choose have power. By adopting a vocabulary that is active and positive, readers can foster a mindset that is conducive to achieving their goals.
Principle 5: Listen Consciously - The final principle is about the art of listening, not just to others but to oneself. It’s a call to be present and to engage with the world in a way that is curious and open.
Leshgold and McCarthy’s writing is accessible and engaging, filled with relatable examples and exercises that encourage self-reflection. They don’t shy away from the challenges that come with change, but they provide a sense of optimism and a belief in the reader’s ability to overcome them.
“Fast Forward” is for the dreamers who are ready to become doers, and for anyone who feels stuck in a rut and is looking for a way out.
