Will romance hit its mark when true love is the target?

Desperate for a fresh start, Rena Burke journeys from Texas to Oregon with only her father’s pistol and a plodding old mule for company. She takes a job working with explosives at a mine, spends her free time emulating her hero Annie Oakley, and secretly longs to be loved.

Saddle maker Josh Gatlin has one purpose in life and that is his daughter. Gabi is his joy and the sunshine in his days. Then he meets a trouser-wearing woman living life on her own terms. Rena is nothing like his perception of what he wants in a wife and mother for his child, but she might just prove to be everything he needs.

When tragedy strikes, will the two of them be able to release past wounds and embrace the possibilities tomorrow may bring?

I loved it!!! This was perfect, just what I didn't know I needed to read. Rena is so likeable and quite independent, but the more you learn about her, the more things fall into place and you just like her so much more. All the characters were great; I want to meet them in real life!
Such a cool idea to have the traveling pink pistol, I imagine that some of those pioneer women would have caused quite a stir, and broken a few hearts along the way.

Don’t miss this cute story about Rena, who works in a mine setting dynamite and Josh, with daughter Gabi, who capture her heart with the help of a pink handled pistol , a legacy from Annie Oakley. I especially liked the people who befriended Rena and spritely Gabi, daughter to Josh.
A great addition to the Pink Pistol Sisterhood series. It has excitement, humor and a solid faith element. I am looking forward to the rest of the series .

Rena Burke traveled from Texas to Holiday, Oregon to live with her cousin, Theo, and try to find work in the mines with him, until she could find something better. She just had to get away from the terrible memories that plagued her mind from the horrible accident that marred her body, leaving her back and legs scarred and causing the death of her beloved Mama. Had it not been for the women of Amarillo who came in and doctored her several times a day and exercised her legs, she would have been a total cripple. She sold the farm, all of the furnishings, ALMOST everything that was left of her life there, especially since her betrothed came in and took one look at her scarred legs and walked out on her and promptly married another woman. Nobody would ever see her in a dress again she had determined. She would surely find a fresh start in Holiday, Oregon! She rode her trusty mule, Scout, most of the way, then loaded the two of them up in the stock car of a train into Montana, where she unloaded and took off walking again. Despite her slight limp, she made very good time, and surprised her cousin by arriving much earlier than anticipated, due to riding the train for part of the trip. . Her brother’s friend and his little girl showed up at her cousin’s cabin before Theo did! Rena had gone down to the river to bathe and put fresh clothes on and had fallen asleep on a rock, when she was awoken by a scream from the cutest little blonde curly-haired girl she’d ever seen! The little girl screamed she was so frightened and Rena pulled her gun on the child as a natural reflex! The Dad, Josh Gatlin came running as quickly as he could and there he found Rena, and his daughter. Thankfully, not one thing was wrong. She had simply gotten scared because he had taught her that if she went out into the woods by herself a nymph might get her and carry her off. So, the first thing she had asked was if Rena was a nymph or a fairy! After she found out that although Rena wore pants, she was just a woman, then she took to her like a moth to a flame. They had a wonderful meal together and a friendship was born. After the friends left, Theo got a couple of packages down from a shelf and told Rena that she had had a birthday while traveling. One gift was from him, and one was from his sister, Rena’s only other living relative, Theo’s sister, Laura. Theo had remembered Rena’s love of drawing and had bought her a sketch book and paints and then she opened Laura’s gift. It was in a beautiful trunk to protect the box inside. The box inside held the most beautiful pink pistol with mother-of-pearl inlay! Rena was shocked at it’s small size and it’s beauty and elegance. Then, she read the note from her cousin and felt her anger start to slowly burn. She told Theo she was totally exhausted and she climbed the rung to the loft and tried to sleep. How dare Laura tell her she hoped she would find “LOVE” in Holiday and that she hoped the gun really did bring her that love. What nonsense!! She fumed for a long time, but sleep overtook her. The next day, Theo had to go to work and she read her cousin’s letter again after having had some rest and some breakfast and she realized that Laura had not written it with any unkind intentions. I want to tell you ALL about this book, but I don’t want to ruin your opportunity to read it for yourself and enjoy every single moment of it, the way I did. With this in mind, I’m not going to tell you whether or not Rena goes to work at the mine, and, if so, whether it’s a good experience or bad. I’m not going to tell you if she reconciles her heart to God or not. I’m not going to tell you whether or not she does fall in love with a man in Holiday or Baker City, where she got off of the train to finish walking to Holiday. I’m not going to tell you if she stays in Holiday or moves back to Texas. I am asking you to buy this book for yourself and find out the answer to all of these questions and then some! It is such a wonderful, delightful book! I really loved it a lot! I know you will, too! I’ve never steered you wrong yet, have I?

SHARING A BURDEN ALWAYS LIGHTENS THE LOAD

The story is the second in the Pink Pistol Sisterhood series and revolves around a special, pink pearl-handled pistol, entrusted to Annie Oakley, and asked to be passed along to a young lady. When she finds love, she is to pass it along to another—and so forth.

“She who possesses this pistol, possesses an opportunity that must not be squandered. Cast in the tender dreams of maidens from ages past, the steel of this weapon is steadfast and true and will lead an unmarried woman to a man forged from the same virtuous elements. One need only fit her hand to the grip and open her heart to activate the promise for which this pistol was fashioned—the promise of true love. Patience and courage will illuminate her path. Hope and faith will guide her steps until her heart finds its home. Once the promise is fulfilled, the bearer must release the pistol and pass it to another or risk losing what she has found. Accept the gift—or not. Believe its promise—or not. But hoard the pistol for personal gain—and lose what you hold most dear.”

I love this series—and I do feel it is best if these books are read in their written order—because in each book, the pink pearl-handled pistol will be passed from one woman to the next—and they follow the stories in that order. In this second book, Rena Burke, will leave her home in Texas and move to Holiday, Oregon, where her cousin, Theo lives. Theo has even arranged for her to have a job working as a miner in the Gilded Pine Mine.

The story is beautifully written, and emotional, at times, story of Rena and the tragedies she faced. That in part has led her to sell the family farm, leave Texas, and begin a new life in Holiday, Oregon. The people in Oregon have been welcoming, and she has even made a few friends from one town to the next along her journey. She will arrive at Theo’s and meet his best friend, Josh, and daughter, Gabi. Rena isn’t like most ladies of the time, for one, she wears men’s trousers and gets a job working in a mine. I love the friendships that she develops with the people in town, and no one seems to look down on her and her decisions. While Rena feels that her standing with God is severed, she discovers that isn’t true. Actually, she will make so many new and welcoming friends when she does attend church.

I like the chemistry that develops between Josh and Rena, and how his daughter, Gabi, wants to be around Rena. So, when fate gives them all a scare, it also opens the door for a future. I had moments reading this story that I was laughing and crying at the same time.

Josh: Does this mean you’ll give up shooting holes in your love targets?
Rena: I’d say love was right on target when it came to meeting you. I think this is the part where you kiss me senseless.
Josh: I reckon it is.

“Rena knew true love had found its mark. Her heart had been its target all along.”

Be sure to read book three, Love Under Fire by Cheryl Pierson, and meet Krissy Donovan, the next recipient of the pink pearl-handled pistol.

I loved this story placed in my new favorite town of Holiday. Rena is a young woman who has had unspeakable tragedies in her life which leads her to leave her home state of Texas and travel on her donkey to Oregon to live with her cousin. She is unconventional in her dressing as she wears pants, not dresses as all or most women do in this historical time piece. She gets as far as Denver and catches the train and rides where her donkey has to ride. Then in Baker City she gets off and rides her donkey the rest of the way. When she arrives, she is glad to see Theo's home is next to water so she jumps in to bath and get the dust of the trail off of her. Her cousin is aware of her dress and it doesn't bother him. She finds a package waiting for her from her cousin who is Theo's sister. Oddly she finds a pretty pink pistol along with other goodies in the box. The note tells her the pink pistol was Annie Oakley's which makes Rena happy as she is such a fan. It says something like this pistol will bring you luck and if you marry you must pass it on to someone else. Marriage is not on her mind. No one would want her after her accident.
A friend of Theo's shows up with his daughter for dinner and finds this woman at Theo's house shooting hearts she cut out and hanging on the fence, with the pink pistol. He's rather curious.
This story from here is very fun and fascinating and gives Josh something to think a bought as he lost his wife and Gabby's mother.
It's a fun and captivating read. This is the second book in the series involving the pink pistol as it gets sent to other unmarried women. Simply a wonderful fun story to read. I received this as an ARC and this is my own opinion on the story.

This reviewer received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. The Author has fashioned one of the most unique and unforgettable heroines in all of Western romance fiction. Rena Burke is a paradox in that on the one hand she is a gun toting hoyden but beneath her masculine clothes lies a lonely, desirable woman who desperately wants to love and be loved. After a series of tragedies involving her and her family she sets out on her trusty old mule, Scout, for Oregon and the quaint little community of Holiday. She stays with her cousin Theo and in her possession is a legendary pink-handled revolver which was passed on to her by Laura, Theo’s sister. It was said whoever owned and shot this pistol would find true love. Who should she meet and almost shoot accidently but Josh Gatlin and his young daughter, Gabi! The romantic interest begins to flame in Josh immediately. Looking for work, she assists Theo as a “blast monkey” working in dirty and dangerous mine demolition. So unusual is Rena’s demeanor and appearance in men’s clothes that the town’s folks suspicions are aroused against her. Josh cannot stay away from Rena and Gabi adores her. The last woman Josh would consider as a wife and mother is Rena but he just can’t help himself. Can these two people with such physical and emotional tragedies in their lives make a romantic go of it? It is only fitting here to highlight this most clever and original series: The Pink Pistol Sisterhood which follows the revolver from its legendary owner, Annie Oakley, from the 1890’s to the present day and the adventures of the ladies who owned it along the way. Can I hardly wait to read all of these stories? Well, Yeah!

Love On Target sure hit its mark! I loved this story between strong, tough, and independent yet gentle Rena, and steadfast and caring Josh. It was so fun to be back in Holiday, since Henley's story, and I really enjoyed getting to catch up with her and the rest of the community, as well as realize the connection with Josh (Mr. Gatlin). Of course, if we're talking about this sweet hero, we also have to mention Gabi Joy, who is a sweet angel and definitely stole the show. (Now I think I want a story of her as a grown-up, lol.)

My heart definitely went out to Rena and all the hardships she went through in life, yet it also made me glad for her to find such great friends in the Holiday community (her cousin Theo was also so supportive, and I'd also love for him to get his own story too 😉). Her struggles and relationship with the Lord were real, and I loved how it all unraveled in the end.

Truly, Shanna Hatfield does Historical/Western Romance so well, and this one is no exception! If you're a fan of her writing, or she's a new author to you since you're following the Pink Pistol Series, you're in for a treat. 😊 I definitely recommend this one to anyone looking for a Sweet/Clean Romance mixed with work for a woman at a mine, a single father who's loyal and would do anything for those he loves, and a light sprinkle of Christian thread and a mystery. ~ 5 stars!

A fun book that will keep you reading
This is an engrossing book that looks at the lives of two people who have faced horrible losses in their lives and are now trying to move forward as best they can. After the accidental death of her father, Rena and her mother moved forward as best as they can. Unfortunately, another accident took Rena’s mother’s life, and left Rena scarred both physically and mentally. With no other family to turn to, Rena heads to her cousin’s Theo’s home in Oregon on her donkey and wearing her, now traditional pants, where she hopes to work in a mine, as a blaster, alongside Theo. Josh runs a saddle making business in the town just a few miles from the mine. It was just him and his daughter, as his wife died shortly after Gabi’s birth. Now Gabi was soon to be five and Josh’s whole world revolves around Gabi, but it was hard raising his active little girl alone. Neither Rena nor Josh was interested in romance. Neither was looking to change the life they had planned. But mix in a precocious little girl, a town full of acceptance, a mining disaster, and plans suddenly change. A very entertaining read. I received an early copy and this is my honest review.

Love on Target is a marvelous story of resiliency, hard work, and determination that took place during the Westward Movement in the US. By Shanna Hatfield it is part of the Pink Pistol Sisterhood series with several authors contributing stories. Rena Burke travels from Texas to the town of Holiday Oregon. Her travels there and her reasons for moving to where her cousin lives is a story in itself. Rena is a perfect example of the pioneer women who helped to settle the west.

The story begins as Rena arrives in a nearby town. From that introduction you know this is one strong woman, not afraid of taking risks but is also responsible. Josh, Gabi, and her cousin Theo are all such inspiring characters along with the supporting character. However, Rena is my favorite. I loved her, want to know someone like her and perhaps even more be like her. She finds acceptance, friendship, family and love. What a lovely story.

The publisher through Net Galley provided a digital ARC. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.

Love on Target is in the Pink Pistol Sisterhood romance series. The author, Shanna Hatfield has given this story all the feels a good story needs. The story behind Rena wearing pants in 1894 is an on going secret, but hang in there as it makes Rena more special. She works a job at the mine being a powder monkey. The mine in Holiday had the bragging rights of the only female powder monkey and she was good at it. When the owner's nephew was assigned to Rena and Theo to train, he played a joke" and almost killed them. Rena suffered the worst of his joke and when they had all came out of the mine the boy said in front of all the men that Rena needed to be working at the Ruby Palace in town and he pay to take her upstairs. Rena went over and punched him in the face so hard he flipped backwards off the stump he was sitting on. That made Rena think how dangerous her job was but the "job" she really wanted was to be a wife and mother as her cold hard heart had came to life again in Holiday.

I received an ARC book for my review. I loved this story and gave it 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟.

Love the story and the characters. Rena is traveling alone from Texas to Oregon. What a journey. It is long and hard, but she doesn't mind. She left her home behind because it had too many bad memories. She is hoping to start fresh when she gets to her cousin's place. Some people are very critical of her because she wears trousers, but she is meeting people who don't seem to mind. Josh is a widower with a little girl. He is trying to do his best for his little girl but it's hard to do it alone. He hasn't wanted any of the women throwing themselves at him for the past few years, but when an unusual woman in trousers shows up, he is rethinking being alone. He likes her for how she is and doesn't want to change her, but will she ever come to love him? She is so unconventional, and he isn't sure that she will want to be with him and his little girl. Rena isn't going to let any man tell her what to do. Will Josh love her and put up with her independent ways?

What happens when a woman determined to stay single meets a little girl who falls in love with her, and comes with an attractive single father? Well Love on Target is a great story to tell you all about it. Obviously Rena doesn’t stand much chance when Gabi is so cute, and her father is so attractive. Add in Annie Oakley’s pink pistol and the love matches that it is thought to helped and Rena really should have given in much sooner. But it’s always so entertaining reading about the adventures, mishaps and unexpected life twists that happen along the way.
I really enjoyed revisiting the town of Holiday and some familiar characters from Shanna’s other stories. Rena, Josh and Gabi were cute and stubborn but got there in the end. I look forward to meeting them in future books as they were such characters and I’m sure they have more adventures ahead of them. A book I can thoroughly recommend if you need to escape into a book for a few hours.

A visit to the town of Holiday - a place you will want to return to again and again. Lucky for us there are several wonderful stories based here. In Love on Target our wonderful writer Shanna Hatfield creates a world you’ll want to wrap around you like a cozy blanket on a chilly winter day. We meet Rena who is a strong courageous woman who inside we learn just wants to be loved. She has experienced such loss & tragedy.she ends up in Holiday with her cousin Theo to start a new life. He gets her a job in a mine doing a very dangerous job. She meets Josh and his daughter Gabi. Josh is the owner of a saddle shop. He too has experienced great loss. Can he accept her scars and all or do they both have a life with too much tragedy? And don’t forget to ready the post book insert after the book! Great history and what inspired Shanna!

Rena travels from TX to OR on her old mule, Scout. She had been in an accident 2 years before and had scars on the inside and out. She was tired of the looks of pity and disapproval so she heads to OR to start over with her cousin, Theo. Theo's sister, Laura, sends her a pink pistol for her birthday. The pistol is supposedly one used by Annie Oakley. If you fired the pistol, you would find true love. Rena scoffed at that idea. No one could ever love her and the hurt was just too deep.

Through her new friends, Rena find release from her sadness and pain of the past. She meets Theo's best friend, Josh and his precious daughter, Gabi. Such a sweet book! I look forward to the other books in the Pink Pistol series.

What an adventure for Rena to travel from Texas to Holiday, Oregon at her cousin’s prompting. So much happens upon her arrival; she takes on a job that is considered a man’s job and does it well. Her cousin Theo is wonderful and knows her painful history. Josh is a reluctant yet, great love interest with an adorable and precocious daughter. Rena meets several women in Baker City and Holiday who are not judgmental of her. We have met several of these women in the first Holiday book in the Holiday Brides series. It was like meeting old friends in their interactions. So much more going on with the introduction of Annie Oakley’s pink gun and the outcome it brings. I cannot recommend it enough. A well deserved 5+ rating.

A sweet, clean addition to the pink pistol sisterhood series. The main character has endured loss, pain and suffering and sets off for a new life far from her home. She stays with her cousin who accepts her as she is and enters a man's world to work and make her new life. Another cousin sends her a pretty pink pistol and a story of "nonsense" about finding lasting love because of the pistol. She finds the townspeople very accepting of her differences and renews her relationship with God. Along the way she meets a man who sees her for herself and loves her the way she deserves. The pink pistol has played its part once again. You will laugh and you may even cry as you enjoy this terrific tale.

This is the second book in the Pink Pistol Sisterhood multi-author series and the first book I’ve read by Shanna Hatfield. She has now been added to my “favorite authors” list and I’m looking forward to reading more by her!

The author has done a tremendous job of weaving a very engaging story with lovable, relatable characters. From the very beginning, I was rooting for Rena, who left Texas to find a new life in Holiday, Oregon. She and Josh are such a wonderful couple! I loved their “meet cute/disaster”, discovering both of their “backstories” little by little, and how they ultimately find healing and love. And little Gabi—such a treasure!! It was also fascinating to get a glimpse into the mining practices of that place and time.

This has the same characters as The Holiday Express books this author has written- I haven’t read any of them yet, but it’s listed in the back of the book to read those to find more- it’s a good stand alone, as I read it without reading the others and found it flowed- I am interested in reading the others though as I liked the characters in this book. It was a fun quick light read- I didn’t feel the change in heart for Rena as much though… there was a lot of hurt and sadness in her to start with and then I felt like the other characters had more written time to change and grow, and then all the sudden her heart was softened and she loves again, I don’t know- it needed a little more depth of her changing from her sooner in the book I think, but it was still a good one.

I really loved this book! Second in the Pink Pistol Sisterhood, written by various authors, this book features Rena and Josh in 1894 Eastern Oregon, where they meet in the town of Holiday. The premise of this series is that a pink pearl handled pistol will bring romance to the person who has it. The characters in this book are strong and likable as they face their challenges. Five year old Gabi Jo, an incredibly well written child character, often steals the show. The descriptions in this book made me want to venture back in time and live in Holiday. I enjoyed seeing how people in this time period provided for their basic needs and livelihood. Kudos to Shanna Hatfield for creating this wonderful book, leaving me with the desire to want more!

Good clean romance with humor

I liked the story very much. The pistol had little to do with it, though, in my opinion. Rena didn't even want it & only shot it because she thought Annie Oakley had. I enjoyed the characters, especially Gabi. I also enjoyed the mining scene toward the end & the incident on Theo's & Rema's journey home from the dynamite maker. The author did a great job of adding humor. The only things I didn't care for were the preaching scene, as I thought it too long, & Josh constantly saying Rena was wild with a free spirit. Not once did I think of her as wild. She had a good reason for wearing trousers & had to travel alone, as she had noone else to journey to Theo's with her. But those were minor issues for me. I enjoyed the story very much.

Rena ❤️ Josh and Gabi

The story of Rena and Josh with his daughter Gabi is a sweet love story. It starts with a horrible tragedy. As Rena moves to Holiday to be with her cousin Theo she receives a gift from her cousin and Theo’s sister, Laura. It is the Pink Pistol. Rena is so upset about it she takes it for target practice to blow off some steam. Josh just happens to be watching her. Gabi adds so much to this story. A pretty little 4 year old almost 5 grabs Rena’s heart (and ours if we will admit it). The stage is set for the great love story. What also makes this so good is the after story that Shanna tells about her research for the aspects in the telling. Good job, Shanna!

What a sweet story this is. Rena is such a tough, independent woman who has had so much tragedy in her life. She takes on a man’s job and wants to be independent. She has no more hope in love or God. Josh has also had a lot of tragedy his life, but he has a wonderful daughter that he loves completely. Neither Rena nor Josh are looking for love, but are drawn to each other.
I hope you love Rena and Josh's love story as much as I did. It is set in the lovely town of Holiday, which Shanna has written about so often. You meet up with characters from her other books, who have now become like family to me. It was a truly enjoyable book and I highly recommend it.

Rena, badly burned from a fired that caught her skirt, refuses to wear skirts and feels she is too damaged for a man to ever love. Josh, a widowed father of a young daughter, owns the saddle shop in town. Can Josh see beyond Rena’s independent spirit and see the lovely person she is? Can Rena overlook her “flaws” and see herself as God and others see her? Can she ever believe she is worthy of unconditional love from God and from others?

This is a lovely story with Christian qualities such as prayer, trusting God, and forgiving God for allowing bad things to happen.

I received a copy of this book from the author. My review is voluntary and unbiased.

This is the first book I have read by this author, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Rena had an accident two years ago and didn't feel anyone would love her because of her scars. She traveled from Texas to Holiday, Oregon to live with her cousin, Theo.

While there, she received a package from her cousin, Laura. It contained the pink handled gun that had been Annie Oakley's. Rena was upset at her for sending it. She didn't believe the story that went with it because of the way she felt. You'll have to read the book to get the full story.

I received a free ARC, and this is my honest opinion.

After losing her parents Rena decides to travel to Oregon to stay with her cousin who has gotten her a job working with him as a blaster in the mines. Due to an accident she has taking to wearing pants all the time and has no confidence in who she is.
Josh lost his wife and is now a single father to his young daughter Gabi. When he meets Rena he just sees her as a friend because he wants a woman who dresses pretty and looks gentle and sweet.
Throw in a mine accident and a run away little girl and Josh starts to realize maybe Rena is just what he and Gabi need in their life.
I received an arc copy in return for an honest opinion.

Love on Target was a delight to read.
Rena is someone I would love to get to befriend.
Gabi pulled at my heart from the first moment I met her and Josh is such a sweetheart.
Theo and Laura, what an amazing set of cousin’s Rena has in her life.

Shanna Hatfield has one of the most unique and sweet writing styles of all time. Her ability to draw in her readers, grab their hearts, and leave them with a euphoric happy-ever-after is so refreshing.

I highly Recommend this book to everyone.

Life is full of grief, it can consume us if we let it, but setting it free and living again is what love and happiness is all about.
