She never expected her hero to be the bad boy from her past…

They hate each other .

Or at least, Smith Sanders always believed Madelyn Lake hated him. But when the city plunges into darkness and he finds himself trapped in an elevator with the prim and ever-so-reserved Madelyn, he realizes that hate and desire can be twined dangerously close together. The simmering tension that has existed between them since they were sixteen years old explodes in a sensual frenzy that sweeps past their control.

It won’t ever happen again.

Power returns. So does sanity. They go their separate ways except…he can’t get her out of his head. Madelyn is haunting him, and Smith already has more than enough ghosts dodging his steps. But he goes back to her, helpless against a desire that won’t end, just in time to save her from a vicious attack.

He never knew her at all.

Madelyn’s whole life has been a lie. A carefully orchestrated cover to protect her from the monster in her past. Only now that monster has found her once more. Protection from the past comes in a most unlikely form—the ever so sarcastic and far too sexy Smith. Former Special Ops, Smith is vicious, deadly, and, quite possibly, the answer to her prayers.

Needing him is dangerous. Falling for him? That’s so much worse.

Madelyn is ready to stop the killer who has taken so much from her, but she can’t do it alone. She needs Smith’s help—Smith and the Ice Breakers, a diverse group of hunters who excel at solving cold cases. Madelyn has spent years pretending to be someone else, and Smith is her key to finally ending her nightmare. But ending that nightmare means returning to her blood-soaked past, fighting an enemy who thrives in the dark, and putting all of her faith in Smith’s callused hands. Her faith, and her heart.

Because with every moment that passes, she finds herself starting to fall deeper and deeper for her unlikely hero…The bad boy from her youth is now the vicious protector who swears he will do anything to keep her safe.

A cold case is about to get brought back to red-hot life as Madelyn and Smith team up to stop a killer. TRAPPED IN ICE is a steamy romance with twists, danger, and a hero who enjoys laughing in the face of danger. Smith is sarcastic, fierce, and totally about to fall for the good girl from his past. Years ago, Madelyn was always out of his reach—even as she starred in his fantasies—but this isn’t a fantasy any longer. She’s his now, and he will do whatever it takes to protect her. Buckle up and get ready for the ice to melt…

Trapped in Ice has sizzling intensity, a twisted storyline that kept me guessing and was simply impossible to put down.

Smith is the perfect alpha protective hero with a fierce determination to stand between Madelyn and the nightmare that she is once more facing. I absolutely loved their journey together. I was on pins and needles as each turn of the page brought me closer to the revelation of the villain. My guess was so wrong!

This was a fast paced read with additional characters that I want more of. It definitely has the true crime feel to it which added to my overall enjoyment. I'm a complete goner for this series.

Trapped in Ice was unfortunately not one of the stronger books in this series for me. I still love the wild ride the author takes readers on in terms of twists and turns and surprises. In this book, Smith (H) and Madelyn (h) met in high school and were attracted to each other, but Madelyn holds herself at a distance because of past trauma and Smith had a reputation that he thought affected her thoughts about him. As adults, they come into contact with each other now and then until a specific instance causes their underlying chemistry and feelings to explode. Something about the pacing of their relationship felt off for me because of their past attraction and then how they give in as adults. It just didn't flow right imo, I think I needed them to have more of an understanding of each other in the present. The suspense elements though worked really well and kept the plot of the book moving along. Written in third person, multi-POV including side characters. No ow/om drama, H was not a virgin (no info on his history but it bugged me that he'd been hung up on the h for years and years and assumedly had been with others but he had no reason to believe she would ever be interested in him), and h was a virgin.

I characterize this as a fast burn because there is a steamy scene very early in the book and because their relationship was fast tracked. Smith is pretty obsessed with Madelyn and she is fascinated with him. The other books in the series have also been fast to get to relationships and deeper feelings so this was in keeping with the overall tone of the series. Other Ice Breakers do feature in this book including Smith's best friend Aiden and his wife, who were in the prior book to this one, as well as Memphis, and some new possible Ice Breakers.

There are some triggers to be aware of including PTSD, claustrophobia, recollections of kidnapping, graphic mentions of trauma and murder, and an attempted sexual assault. Plot-wise, I thought the story itself was solid with the danger from Madelyn's past and the mystery pieces and I finally figured out one element, but missed the rest. The book ends in a HEA at their wedding with them deeply in love and devoted. Also with a nudge for one of the side characters leading into the next book.

This book is lit 🔥!! Highly recommend it!!

Read it if you love suspense, action, killer on loose and badboy hero who is obsessed with heroine since they were 16 years old. I highly recommend the whole series and all of them are standalone.

Perhaps it wasn’t meant to be read as a standalone. I didn’t feel the connection between the MCs.

The romance was spicy (a little much for me and I did some skimming😬) and intense.
Appreciated the mystery and twist and turns. Had me surprised a few times.
Heroine is smart, sweet and strong.
A little too much swearing for me.
Good pacing.
Short review.

Trapped In Ice is the 5th book in the Ice Breaker series. I always love cold case stories and this one was superb.

Madelyn Lake was the star of his high school dreams. There was always something different about her that made her special.

She was in danger, something horribly sinister was all around her, and him being his usual ——— self was the best way to keep her safe.

Smith Sanders had a a alpha male , special forces killer.

After all these years, he’d finally gotten Madelyn Lake in his bed. And all he wanted to do? Protect her. Eliminate every threat.

With the help of some Ice Breaker friends he’s going to new and old the race is on.

“Oooh. Scared. Oh, wait, I’m not.”

Character interaction is so good you just can’t help but fall in love with this group. Shocking secrets are revealed and a HEA that will make you melt.

Trapped in Ice is book number 5 in the Ice Breaker series, but you really can read it as a stand alone. Madalyn has been on the run since she was a preteen-new identity, no friends, and no breaking the rules. But, a year after her mother passes, she decides to break some of the rules and starts her own business. Then a killer finds her.

Smith has been half in love with Madalyn since high school, and now that she is suddenly back in his orbit, he isn't just going to walk away this time. When he realizes she is in major danger, he is forcing his way into her life. Unraveling who is trying to kill her now means they need to unravel who abducted her then. Their relationship is a bit of the bodyguard trope, a bit second chance and it really works. I found the story was keeping me engaged and it moved at a pretty fast pace! Trapped in Ice is a must read for romantic suspense fans!

Four and a half
You could perhaps see this as a second chance romance because Madelyn and Smith met when she was sixteen and he dearly wanted to be with her but her past meant she just pushed him away. Fast forward and they work in the same building so when the couple get trapped in a lift together well suffice to say Smith definitely grabs his chance and indeed Madelyns full attention !
A story of obsession, murder and indeed madness ! You will love Smith and I think I actually preferred him to Madelyn but hey ho he is my favourite type of hero. I enjoyed catching up with characters from previous books as they added to the fun and mayhem. Plus new characters so yep I’m onboard for more. A couple of shocks and surprises as well and of course a happy ending.
This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

wow that one was painful and thrilling. i honestly didn't see this twist coming until it hit. What an asshole. Smith was a great lover and a wonderful character. Madelyn was a little harder to love with all her fears and secrets but once she opened up i liked her too.

Cant wait for the next one... and TONY omfg!

Trapped In Ice by Cynthia Eden is book 5 in the Ice Breaker Cold Case Series. This is the story of Madelyn Lake and Smith Sanders. Smith was smitten with Madelyn when they first met when they were younger. Madelyn is running from a bad situation in her past that is still coming for her today. When these two meet again is when Smith ends up helping her through a tough time. This was an exciting story. Loving this series and this author's writing.

4.5stars--TRAPPED IN ICE is the fifth instalment in Cynthia Eden’s contemporary, adult ICE BREAKER COLD CASE romantic suspense series focusing on the men and women who work for Ice Breakers, an online team of crime solvers whose goal is to solve cold cases. This is security specialist Smith Sanders, and art authenticator Madelyn Lake’s story line. TRAPPED IN ICE can be read as stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: For fans of Cynthia Eden, there is a slight cross over with the author’s Wilde Ways series.

Told from third person perspective TRAPPED IN ICE follows the search for a suspected killer. Years earlier, at the age of thirteen Madelyn Lake aka Maggie was abducted by a stranger but upon her escape would discover she was not the only victim of a possible serial killer, a killer who was never found, and the murders never solved. Fast forward to present day, the demons from her past begin refocusing on our story line heroine, demons with a possible connection to the who, how and why. Enter security specialist Smith Sanders, a childhood acquaintance of Madelyn Lake, and the man with whom Madelyn will fall in love. What ensues is the protection of Madelyn; the rebuilding friendship and building relationship between Madelyn and Smith, and the potential fall-out as a killer sets their sights on our story line heroine.

Smith Sanders fell in love with Madelyn Lake at the age of sixteen but within days of introduction Smith would disappear never to be heard from again. Since her abduction Madelyn had been ‘warned’ not to draw attention to herself, and in doing so, kept her life separate from everyone else but as an adult Madelyn was always distrustful of people she didn’t know, but it may be the people closest that can cause the most harm.

The relationship between Madelyn and Smith is a second chance, of a sorts. Smith never had time to get to know our story line heroine, as his own life was spiralling out of control. Now a chance to protect the woman with whom he is falling in love give Smith the opportunity to claim the young woman who had stolen his heart. Madelyn Lake also suspected that one day her past would return but she never expected to get up close and personal with the young man who was hoping for a second chance. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters include Aiden and Tony (Touched by Ice), Memphis Camden (Falling for the Ice Queen 2) , as well as the introduction of several people connected to our heroine’s past.

TRAPPED IN ICE is a story of betrayal and vengeance, obsession and madness, murder and mayhem, mistrust and acceptance. The premise is intriguing, twisted and dramatic, ; the characters are animated, broken and desperate; the romance is seductive and energetic.

Trapped In Ice is another amazing page-turner by Cynthia Eden.

This book is another addictive installment in the Ice Breaker Cold Case series. We met Smith in the previous book. He is Aiden’s head of security and oozes those alpha male protector qualities that all of Cynthia’s heroes possess. I have to say that the thriller elements in this book are so well done. This book gave me the creeps at times and had me on the edge of my seat. It is probably my favourite thriller in this series. It’s a darker, twisty thriller; there is kidnapping, assault, stalking, and torture in this story. There are parts of this book that will have your heart racing. I really thought the thriller elements were well thought out. The climax at the end of the book was not what I was expecting it to be. It was really interesting. There is something about a dangerous, unknown kidnapper/murder that hooked me in. I love a good cat-and-mouse thriller, and this story just scratched that itch for me.

The romance in this book was also well done and complimented the thriller elements well. Madelyn and Smith have known each other since they were teenagers. They had a crush on each other when they were teens, and that attraction has only grown as they have gotten older. There are some spicy sparks flying between these two. I loved the chemistry and banter that went on between them. I have to admit that I devoured those moments between Madelyn and Smith when she says that he can’t be the asshole he says he is, because he has been so kind and understanding with her. His response is always that she is the only person that he would never be an asshole to because he cares for her. Those little moments are pure catnip for me. Their romantic journey is filled with high-tension moments, and that tension pushes the two of them together. They use what is going on around them to act upon those lusty feelings they are having for each other. Romance fans who like forced proximity, a virgin heroine, spice coaching, and alpha males will devour the love story in this book.

On a side note, Aiden and Tony make an appearance in this book, and it is so perfect and joyous. I love every moment of it. Tony has destroyed Aiden in the most glorious way. He was acting like a frantic mother hen, trying to keep Tony safe, and Tony was doing her thing. She has that man wrapped around her finger, and it was just fabulous.

Trapped in Ice is a heart-pounding romance thriller that you will not be able to put down.

Enjoyable, but a lot of missing details, and it drags in the middle.

Cynthia Eden’s book are always hit or miss for me, and I wouldn’t say this was a hit. It dragged on and on yet there are so many details missing. I’ve still no clue why a lot of things happened, and I’m left feeling really let down.

Madelyn and Smith meet at school and they both like each other. Madelyn isn’t allowed to date or get close to anyone because something awful happened to her in her past. So she shrugs off Smith until he thinks she hates him. Years later (No idea how many years later as it doesn’t say.😡) Madelyn has borrowed money from Smith’s boss/friend Aidan, to set up her own business and is working in a office upstairs from them. One night when she’s working till two in the morning, (No idea why.) Smith just happens to be in the lift that she gets in. Again, WHY?) When the lift breaks down Madelyn is terrified and somehow her and Smith start making out and are about to have sex in the lift when it starts moving again. 😂😂😂🙈

When Smith goes to see Madelyn he interrupts a man who is attacking her, and he vows to always be there for her. As things point to Madelyn being being in danger from her past Smith and the Ice Breakers are there to help her.

At times it was enjoyable, but a lot of things really really don’t make sense. A lot of things aren’t explained and it’s really really annoying that I don’t know how old they are!! I read book one and hated it, and I got this one free on BookBub and I was really confused about a lot of people. Where Aidan and Smith friends at school? If they were, why did Aidan not trust Smith? How did they get to work together? Why did Madelyn’s mother tell her to hide from the world? Why did her mother and her step dad stop Madelyn having trauma counselling after what she went through? 😡😡😡

Too many things that didn’t make any sense. I did like parts of it but it wasn’t fantastic.

Cynthia Eden's Ice Breaker series has yet to disappoint. But I think this may be my favorite book so far in the series. It's certainly going to be one I read over and over again. I strongly recommend it if you are a fan of sizzling hot romance, second chances, and so much action you're on the edge of your seat for the entirety of the book.

Smith is such a swoon worthy protector. And right from the start, it's known to the reader that he loves Madelyn and would do anything to protect her and make sure she's happy. And while he would prefer that to be happy with him, he always puts her needs before his own and just wants her to be happy. Madelyn clearly wants to be with Smith but the secrets of her past and the way she was raised prevent her from letting him into her heart. She has spent so long isolated and stopping herself from creating bonds, that Smith has his work cut out for him in convincing her that she can trust him and he would never hurt her.

When these two were together, the pages were on fire! The chemistry and tension was so palpable. And the situation with Madelyn ran so much deeper than expected. The more her past unraveled, the more my heart broke for her and all she had endured. But the way Smith stood beside her and made it clear that he wasn't going anywhere practically had me fanning myself. Thank you Cynthia Eden for creating this world, bringing these characters to us, and making them so real.

Smith Sanders and Madelyn Lake first met when they were sixteen years old. They fell for each other then, but never expected he would become her hero in the present.

Madelyn hates Smith, or at least he things she does but he doesn't realize why she always tried to avoid him. When the city plunges into darkness they are trapped on an elevator and the tension that has always been between them comes shooting to the surface that neither of them can control. Smith cannot get her out of his head, never has been, and when the time comes that she needs help he is there.

Smith has been through a lot, after high school he joined the military and worked with the Special Forces. He has done some things, seen things, and believes he will never be good enough for Madelyn. Will all of his training allow him to be able to save the girl he has always wanted?

Madelyn's life has been a lie, she had to hide from a monster from her past, but the past has come to the present. She has been afraid to get close to anyone, but realizes Smith is able to protect himself from whatever is after her. He is just what she needs.

Trapped in Ice has so many twists and turns that it keeps you on the edge of your seat. I love all of Cynthia Eden's books, but Smith is now one of my favorite characters that she has created. Once you get started you will not be able to put this book down. I highly recommend this book.

I voluntarily reviewed "TRAPPED IN ICE" You'll be hooked on this story from the start its an intense, riviting, dangerous rollercoaster ride full of suspense, intrigue, danger, humor, steamy scenes, angst, secrets, vicious attacks, twists that has you on the edge of your seat to the end.
Madelyn Lake aka Maggie her blood soaked past comes back to haunt her after a vicious attack serial killer never caught she needs the help of former Special Ops Smith Sanders his security team Ice Breakers who deals in cold cases.
Smith Sanders had been in love with Maggie at 16yrs. old but he went missing never to heard of again, then there was Maddie's obduction in the past, she didn't draw attention to herself which made her distrustful of people she didn't know.
Maddie feels the terror of her past when someone is out to make relive what happened to her, Smith is determined to find out who kidnapped her years ago he trys to get her to take her life back & not let him win.
I definitely recommend to get this phenominal well written riviting intense story "Smith & Maddie" take you on quite the action packed journey along the way they get closer, will these two finally get their HEA its a must read you don't want miss so well worth the read you'll love the characters that pull you right into all the drama.

Trapped In Ice (Ice Breaker Cold Case #5) by Cynthia Eden is a chance meeting of two who went to the same high school for a while years ago. Both have misconceptions of their interactions from that time. I like how we were able to see what they are thinking because it was way different from what was perceived. Now years later Madelyn Lake is in trouble with her childhood past comes for her. So who’s she going to turn to for help? The high school now grown tough dangerous man she was recently stuck in an elevator with, that’s who. Two survivals who deserve the true love that they find together.

Madelyn past and present are so complex I kept waiting for another bad guy to pop up on Smith’s radar. The secrets with the revelations were all welcomed read as much as the stopping of the villain. Then the icing on the cake was the last chapter. Wonderfully done.

Each story in this series can be read as a stand-alone. The elevator door may be closed but the bedroom door is wide open in this story. However, the plot and suspense of Trapped In Ice, while complicated, make for such a compelling read.

Another Ice Breaker book to LOVE!

Madelyn and Smith met on her first day in high school. She was trying to keep a low profile and he was the bad boy who took interest in her. She liked him right from moment one but knew that she was not allowed to be close to anyone. She was in hiding.

Madelyn grew up and became an appraiser. Having know Aiden (If you recall, Smith and Aiden are best friends and Smith is security for Aiden) from HS, Madelyn askes him to back her in starting her own business. She has her offices in his building.

After a party one night, while Madelyn was working late, Smith took the elevator up to her floor. They have words and are heading down when the elevator stops mid floors. They're trapped and Madelyn starts to freak. Smith tries to help her and she eventually spills why she has always been so cold to him.

When she was a kid she was kidnapped and held in a tiny dark room. She escaped but the kidnapped punished her. He took her best friend and killed her live feed. Madelyn has always blamed herself.

Smith and Aiden figure out that the elevator mishap was rigged and that someone is after Madelyn. Smith assigns himself her body guard and a fantastic story unfolds.

ENJOY!

An amazing story with strong characters who pull you in with their emotions and their fight to end the threat to Madelyn’s life. They first met in high school, but Madelyn Lake was warned to keep to herself, and so she shied away from Smith Sanders. Now they meet years later, in a stalled elevator, and he was the only thing kept her calm, well not really calm, but his actions kept her sane. Someone wanted Madelyn to know the terror that she knew years ago, when she was locked in a small room. Smith is determined to find out who kidnapped her and killed her best friend. Even with a change in identities, arranged by her wealthy step father, it seems the man has found her again. When a man breaks into her home, Smith barely arrives in time to save her, but who is targeting her? Can it be the man who kidnapped her years ago? Smith urges her to turn her fear into strength, to fight, to get her life back, a life she wants to share with Smith. Characters from previous books helped make this a book that I couldn’t put down until the thrilling end. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. Cynthia Eden continues to prove why she is the queen of romantic suspense. Trapped in Ice will keep you guessing right up to the end. The Ice Breaker Cold Case series has an exquisite cast of alpha males that show they can have a softer side when needed, as well as a cast of strong, intelligent and independent women that prove they won't go down without a fight.

Tension has been simmering between Smith and Madelyn since they were sixteen years old. Smith fully believed Madelyn has hated him all this time. Then the two end up trapped together in an elevator and they quickly find out there is a very fine line between hate and desire.

But Madelyn's life has been a series of lies and secrets that could put everyone around her in extreme danger. When Smith realizes the extent of her fears, the feelings he has felt for Madelyn since they were sixteen cause his protective nature to come roaring to the surface.

Determined to keep Madelyn safe, Smith Sanders and the Ice Breakers with their special set of skills may be the only hope she has to finally put the terror of her past behind her.

I received an ARC and freely offer this review.

Great book, didnt skim at all. But what i did not like

1) how old are they?! Like author made sure to never reference their age or say like "10 years ago", so you can count from them being 16. It is no way knowing how old are they. It really bothered me. Are they late 20s? Are they late 30s?

2) so basically the bad guy was dead for YEARS (we dont know how many, because see point 1). Her stepfather killed him when she was 16. Her mother and stepfather KNEW the bad guy was dead, but never told her. Made her live in extreme fear and forbid her to ever get close to anybody, because that person could get killed/hurt (because the bad guy took heroine best friend and killed her because heroine got away from him). Also she could bever talk about it and they did not take her to therapy - because nobody can know!
Like this EXTREME abuse from parents was never addressed as it is. ABUSE. wtf. And since i dont know how old are h/H. . if they are late 30s, then h has lived in major fear, major PTSD for 15+years?!

I think this was explained that her mother was afraid that somehow it got out that stepfather killed the guy and he will be jailed.

After I had finished reading the previous book in the Ice Breaker Cold Case Series by the amazing Cynthia Eden, there was absolutely no question in my mind that Smith's story was going to be crazy good and I was 100% correct!! Wow, this story is non-stop action, drama, suspense, off the charts chemistry between Smith and Madelyn, twists and turns -- every adjective you could name and wish for in a romantic suspense novel -- it's in here. Her characters are so easy to like and are so well developed that I always feel as though I'm right there in the middle of the story with them. I am so enjoying this series but it's no surprise because I think Ms. Eden is one of the top romantic suspense writers in this genre. The story lines move swiftly with tons of surprises and every single book is different and unique. I don't know how she does it, but I hope she continues to do so because these stories are quite the entertaining reads. Can't wait for the next one!! I'm grateful to have been given the opportunity to read and review an early copy of this book through NetGalley.

I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy through Net Galley of Trapped In Ice . I really enjoyed reading this story . It's full of suspense and intrigue and smoking sexy times . Madelyn Lake and Smith Sanders have known each other since they where sixteen . He always thought she hated him . Madelyn was basically a prisoner in her own home growing up hiding from her dark past . Madelyn and Smith get trapped together in an elevator their attraction can't be ignored .
As the elevator starts working Madelyn decides that cannot happen again . Smith has had strong feelings for Madelyn since he was sixteen and will not give up now . He arrives at her home in time to save her from an attack . Smith soon realizes the Madelyn he knew has a dark secret and she's in need of his protection . Has their feelings grow so does the danger . Smith with the help of the Ice Breakers a group that solve cold cases will work to protect Madelyn and get the answers they need . This is a sensational suspense romance . I highly recommend taking the time to read .

Loved this book!

I really really liked reading this book. It’s so good, I can see me reading this again.

Madelyn and Smith make such a wonderful couple. I like how they fell for each other since they were sixteen even though they avoided each other. It was so sweet to find out that Smith had checked up on her even back then to make sure she was ok. They reunite as adults and the attraction is still there. They have hot chemistry and he is so good to her. Tons of feels moments.

The plot was so interesting! I was enthralled and powered through this book. The mystery of what happened to Madelyn when she was 13 and escaped her kidnapper was intriguing. Lots of moving parts that kept me guessing to the end. The ending was really good with twists here and there and a good closure and reveal of everything. It was also great to have previous characters like Aiden & Toni and Memphis, in previous books in this series appear in this book.

I highly recommend this book. Loved it!

Years earlier Madelyn and Smith met he was the bad boy at her school and then he disappeared What he didn't know was that Madelyn was kidnapped but managed to escape from someone who it appears was in fact a serial killer. Now they have reconnected by accident Madelyn is an art assessor and Smith well he is ex special forces Soon they have reconnected but someone is after Madelyn and Smith's protective instincts are in overdrive It is related to her past escape and can Smith keep her safe and what will happen when thy discover they have been crushing on one another for years Can they have a future You will have to read to see

Like all of Cynthia's books this is a fast paced fun read that totally engages you and while it is part of a series it can be read as stand alone and I would recommend that you read the entire series In fact there is cross over with the Wilde Boy series so read that one as well you will be glad you did

Copycats and secrets.

Wow. I sat down to read this and ended up getting sucked in and had to finish it in one good. Yes, It's that good. Madelyn has been hiding in plain sight since she was sixteen, the same time she started over in a new school and met Smith. Her secrets kept her in an invisible cage for years, even after she escaped her own, very real prison. Years, later, she's trapped in an elevator with Smith and things change between them.

Smith has always had a jones for Maddie, from high school and again as adults. Getting trapped in the elevator revealed several things to him. One, Madelyn has SECRETS. Two, she wants him and he's not stopping until he protects her and has her. She is a magnet for men who are obsessed with her (two baddies and Smith).

A great, suspensful, steamy read with plenty of character growth and action.
Recommend.

Cynthia Eden does it again with a steamy romantic suspense that perfectly blends the plot and the romance. There is a reason why she is an auto read author for me!

Our heroine becomes trapped in an elevator with the man she has been trying to avoid ever since she was a teenager. Our hero is only too pleased to be stuck in an elevator with the woman he has been listing after since he was a teenager. When it becomes obvious that someone is out to hurt our heroine, our hero steps in to make sure she is protected and get to the bottom of it, including dredging up her deeply buried past.

These two characters from the start of the book had incredible chemistry 🔥🔥🔥 and you never doubted how either felt about the other. Yes this is a book where the characters fall quickly but honestly? When it’s written by this author I don’t even care! (She can do no wrong for me).

I didn't know what I was getting into with this book but the blurb seemed intriguing. I really like the plot, it was solid and thrilling. Also, I liked both Smith & Madelyn and initially the book was going great. I loved the chemistry between these two and their feelings for each other were palpable but then in the second half, the plot had gotten intense and focused more on solving the mystery rather than Maddie & Smith's relationship which was disappointing tbh considering their camaraderie was what got me the motivation to further read the book. Also, a lot was happening towards the end and everything was wrapped up too quick. So while I found the book to be really interesting, I was disappointed with the way the main characters' relationship was handled because after a while, I couldn't feel the connection between them as I could in the initial chapters.

I love Cynthia Eden’s books. I love her way over protective males and how they’re puddy for their women. I love when they’re smitten from the first moment or for years because they’ve been pining.

Smith and Madelyn had been circling each other since they were teenagers. And watching that tension snap in the elevator was freaking amazing.

Also, I really appreciate how often we get to see the other Ice Breakers. Some of them disappear into the ethos (we haven’t really seen Delilah and Archer but I can’t say I’m totally surprised.) but we see Memphis and Tony regularly and I love that (especially because Memphis is still my favorite.)

This book had just the right amount of mystery and twist and turns and it was well done and well laid out. I really enjoyed Madelyn and Smith together and I hope we see them again.
