What happens in Jasper Creek when a wandering loner turned Good Samaritan with a stubborn streak meets a scarred, feisty, equally stubborn agoraphobic, well there is a battle of wills of course and something quite beautiful that’s what!
Millie was left scarred both physically and emotionally as a child by the fire that killed her parents and destroyed her home. Now living in her rebuilt home Millie is a recluse, never leaving her farm and orchard and avoiding nearly all face to face contact with people. When Renzo steps in to help at the orchard their connection is real and instant.
Renzo has his own demons from his early childhood as a street kid in Peru before being adopted into the incredible Drakos family. Trying to outrun his demons with his wanderlust Renzo has watched his siblings settle down and find lasting happiness and in Millie he realises he has found his home. He is gentle and compassionate with Millie but equally determined to show her she is so much stronger than she believes and can trust him with her heart. Their romance and growing relationship is a beautiful thing, spiced up by their stubborn natures. When danger threatens Millie’s inner strength comes to the surface and she realises with Renzo by her side Millie realises she can do anything she wants.
Heartfelt emotions, suspense, wonderful friends and family all wrapped up in an amazing story.

I have been looking forward to Renzo's story since he was introduced in a previous book. Actually, I would love to see more books about any of Jase and Renzo's single family members. The whole family seems fascinating.

Millie has suffered a tragedy and as a result, she is practically a recluse. Seeing Renzo bring her out of her shell as she slowly let him in was beautiful. Renzo's own background is heartbreaking and he ended up with an amazing family. I think this lets him connect more with Millie.

This was a great book!

In the prologue of this book we get a look at how Renzo became part of the Drakos family. He is one of many adopted by Sharon and Christos. In many ways he feels unworthy of the love they gave freely to him and the successes in life he's had because of them.

Renzo is in Jasper Creek to lay low, to hide, to be alone. Then somehow along the way he's become a good Samaritan, helping out where needed. Irving Monroe is sick and called him, he needs someone to help the woman who owns Randolph Orchards. There's debris that needs to be cleared from the storm and he's arranged for a college horticulture professor and some students to help out, but the owner Millie would have trouble giving them instructions. That's where Renzo comes in.

Millie is agoraphobic, having been severely burned as a teen and the only survivor of the fire that took her parent's lives. She stayed with an aunt and uncle getting her education remotely. When she completed her studies, she returned to her rebuilt Jasper Creek home and orchard and hasn't left.

The initial meeting between Millie and Renzo was a match of wills. Millie, saying she doesn't want the help she'd do it herself and Renzo coming up with all the reasons that's not only unsafe, but those students needed this for their grade. It was quite the exchange considering Millie was more in her house than out. Once Renzo secured her okay, he went to check out her equipment and was pleasantly surprised to find two cherry pickers as well as ten ladders all top of the line. He then realized he'd need someone else to drive one of the cherry pickers and also everyone working would need to sign liability wavers. First, he'd need the keys, so he called Millie. She'd leave the keys outside and then write up and print the wavers.

Once Millie had things ready, she had one call to make fundraising for the International Burn Alliance. A charity close to her heart for obvious reasons. That was an interesting conversation. It's almost like Millie is a different person on the phone than she is in person. It was funny to see Millie's reaction when Ginny agreed to her proposal and cookies went flying from her spatula to the couch.

Obviously, these aren't going to be the only interactions between these two. I really enjoyed the antics Renzo pulls to see her again.

I was also very touched by Renzo's loving care for her even when she shies away. There's much for her to overcome, and it will be a slow process.

There's more than one twist in this tale involving not only Renzo but also folks who just visit with Millie. With laughter, tears, romance, and oh yes, some sizzle too, had me reading this book to the final page.

Her Hidden Smile is the second book in the Protectors of Jasper Creek series by Caitlyn O’Leary and is Renzo and Millie’s story – it can be read as a stand-alone but does include characters from other books. We meet Renzo in the first Jasper Creek book, and he is one of many adopted children in the Drako’s family. He is a bit of a loner, but despite his beginnings is a very good man. We meet Millie in ‘Home at Last’ and this book tells her full story including more information on events in that book. Millie has been through a lot of trauma in her life and is homebound by her emotional issues. Renzo is incredibly patient with her and manages, like others in Jasper Creek, to get past her barriers.
There are some other issues going on in Renzo’s life and he pulls away from Millie without explanation which hurts her, and she rebuilds her walls. He sweeps back into her life in rather heroic fashion and begins to convince her that there is nothing about her that puts him off or would drive him away. The development of their relationship and the rebuilding of Millie’s self-esteem are so sweetly portrayed.
Millie is caught up in the drama from one of her new friends and ends up in extreme danger. Simon Clark, Drake Avery and Aiden O’Malley are on hand to help resolve this situation, but Millie ends up in the hospital. Renzo is there for her during her recovery and they continue to build their relationship while Millie gets better emotionally as well as physically. I liked that the author didn’t just have a magic complete emotional recovery, but realistically portrayed it as an evolving process.
As with the first book in this series, the story is as much about the wonderful town of Jasper Creek as it is about Renzo and Millie. There is also less action in this series than in some of her other books, but that is certainly not a negative, the story is full of great characters and heartwarming emotion. I love this town and have said before that I wish I could live there.
As is always the case with Caitlyn’s books, I read it so fast that it was over much too soon and I am left anxiously waiting for the next one. I got this book as ARC in exchange for an honest review. I strongly recommend this book or really anything by this author.

𝐇𝐞𝐫 𝐇𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞 is the second book in the Protectors of Jasper Creek series by Caitlyn O’Leary, featuring an emotional romantic suspense story for Renzo and Millie. Renzo has relied on wanderlust to help him outrun the demons of his childhood, but watching his siblings and friends find love makes him begin to reevaluate his choices, especially when he meets the intriguing recluse Millie. Millie lost both her parents in a house fire that left her physically and emotionally scarred. When Renzo showed up to do some work on her farm, they both felt a connection they never expected. Can two wounded souls find healing in each other, or will unexpected danger ruin their chance at happiness?

I’ve known from every glimpse of Renzo in other books that I would love him, and I was right!! He treated Millie with such compassion and respect, because he understood the impact of the scars you can’t see. Their romance was the perfect blend of sweet and spicy. These characters were so well-written and original that their pain became mine, as I was sucked into this world once again. Given Millie’s backstory, she’s literally like a phoenix rising from the ashes, and her growth was truly inspirational. I loved seeing Renzo’s family, and the way they accepted Millie into the fold as well. The suspense aspect brought heart-pounding twists, action, and an opportunity to see some old friends.

If you’re looking for authentic characters with unique stories who deserve love like no other with a suspense angle, grab this book on February 13, 2024!!

I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

An Appeal to the gods of grammar and editing

Oy! These books could be so good if she had a good editor. How can an author, after so many books, have basic grammatical errors, such as changes of tenses and mis use of words, such as, "we didn't" when it should have been "we did", and she kept changing facts about her characters. At one point Renzo was 7 when he was adopted then later he was six. At one point Jase was out of the country but then he showed up two paragraphs later. Renzo tells a story where he says regarding his parents, "They caught me dating a college sophomore when I was still a junior in high school.” To which Millie replies, “That doesn’t make any sense. Why would a college freshman want to date someone so young?" Ugh! So. Many. Examples. Of what seems to be lazy writing and poor editing.

In the first book of the series a big deal was made about Renzo camping out in the woods and hiding out and not contacting his family, that was never explained. Also in the first book they allude to him having some military type skills and the author never explains that either.

Ugh! With some continuity and editing this could be a good book. But really save your money and go find a different author.

What a phenomenal story on how to overcome daily struggles and learn to trust, love and grow not only as individuals but as families. Renzo is on the run from an orphanage and living on the streets then life intervenes and new opportunities await. He is now a man who has accomplished a career, has a large family of parents and multiple brothers and sisters. He is in Jasper Creek for a job and trying to decide what his next step will be in his career. Millie is struggling with what life has dealt her. Tragedy, emotional and physical scars and has sudden herself away from others. She struggles daily with fear and anxiety. She does allow a select few in but she has hidden talents she hides from everyone. Renzo comes to her family orchard one day and recognizes his other half. Slowly over time they start to build a relationship but when tragedy occurs again will they both be able to recover and heal? What an incredible story! I laughed, cried and cheered for everyone in this story! I love the town of Jasper Creek. Millie and Renzo deserve their happy ever after. 5+ stars!!

Imagine a family where the parents have adopted a bunch of different children and loved them all like they were their own, that's Renzo's family. He's lucky, he's happy, and he's loved but he hasn't found that one person to complete his life.
Millie can't leave her house. As a child her house burned down, she lost her parents, and she was burned. Now she only feels safe in her house and on her land, she can't go anywhere else, she is to scared.
When Renzo and Millie meet he feels the connection right away and even when she tries to push him away he doesn't give up. She's self conscious of her burn scars but he shows her that she's beautiful and that the scars don't make her less of a person.
They fall in love but their are things trying to keep them apart, but fate always wins, and Renzo and Millie are fated to be together forever.
This is an amazing book full of characters that you will fall in love with. I recommend you read it, although this is the 2nd book in the series, I'd definitely start with the 1st one.

Renzo has a strong wanderlust. His childhood in Peru has given him an innate need to protect others. His adoption into the HUGE but loving Drakos family just cemented those ideas in him. But can his protective nature and determination help an agoraphobic to push past her self-imposed boundaries?

Millie is in need of help in her orchard but her agoraphobia is preventing her from letting the volunteers now what needs doing. Enter Renzo, willing stopgap. Her scars and burns are very real but they are also not the great divide that she made them in her mind.

These two were a complete battle of wills - the stubborn was reaching epic proportions on both sides. But they soon find their working rhythm and trust began to grow between them. Millie's confidence soars under the gentle pushes of Renzo and I loved seeing her come out of her shell - even if it was only over the phone.

Whilst Renzo may be action man, he knows when to be calm, patient and bide his time. He really was a perfect bookboyfriend! Lots of twists to keep you engaged.

This story belongs to Renzo Drakos and Millie Randolph. Two individuals whose early childhood experience was less than stellar and one that has molded who they are today.
Nowadays, Renzo is a different man from his days in an orphanage. His travels have taken him all over the world, but now is starting to feel that he’s missing something in life. That is, until he meets Millie.
Millie, who carries the physical and emotional scars of her childhood, is realizing the dream as she now lives in her deceased parents’ farm.
When these two meet the attraction was evident but is that enough to let go of the past in order to open the door to a new beginning?
This was an engaging and emotional story that will touch your hearts from the first page to the last.
Though I have not read book one, this is evidently a stand alone and one to be enjoyed by all.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Renzo has always been the rolling stone of his family but he is beginning to want solid roots. Millie hasn't always been a shut in but life has knocked her back. Can she find the strength to accept the hand Renzo is extending?
Her Hidden Smile is the latest in Caitlyn O'Leary's Protectors of Jasper Creek series. I enjoyed returning to this small town. I also enjoyed getting to know Renzo better. He knows he lucked put with his family and finds himself struggling to see beyond his past. And then he meets Millie. She has forever written all over her but can he end his itchy feet to have forever with her?
Millie hasn't left her house for much in years. Ahe doesn't do well around people. Her life is lonely but she has accepted her lot in life until Renzo. Can she see herself as he does? Can she accept the possibilities he brings? I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Millie blossom as the circle of people that refuse to let her hind grows and she see the strength within.

Her Hidden Smile
(Protectors of Jasper Creek, Book Two)

Fate brings Renzo Drakos and Millie Randolph together. Renzo, tired of wandering the globe and trying to escape his demons, wanting to find someone to share his life, has him taking a job at an orchard. Here he meets the reclusive Millie. Millie has lived through a fire which killed her parents and has left her suffering from agoraphobia.

I enjoyed this book from the onset. The prologue, which dealt with Renzo’s backstory, was a great lead into the book. The characters are so very real that their story grabs you and invites you into their lives. The book has romance, and suspense as well as introducing readers to the symptoms of agoraphobia.

While each book in this series is a standalone, I would recommend reading Book One - His Wounded Heart, first. I read this book in one sitting and I would definitely recommend it.

This is one of the most beautiful stories…..

Renzo Drakos was saved by the most wonderful family when he was a small boy orphaned in Peru. He’s grown so much and surrounded by love. He’s even traveled the world. But lately he feels like something is missing. Then he meets Millie and his wandering ways are over.

Mille Randolph had it all. Then tragedy struck and she lost it all. Her adoring parents, her beautiful childhood home and her freedom. She has deep scars that she carries around daily. Her fear and anxiety consume her. Until she meets Renzo. He’s kind, patient and he just makes her FEEL… And BELIEVE…. That anything is possible…. Even LOVE!
Just when Millie is starting to heal and trust that her life can get better with Drakos by her side she’s knocked down again. Will she have the strength to fight for her new life?

Renzo has his own reasons for living out in Jasper Creek, away from his family. Millie is a remarkable young women who has overcome severe adversity and has significant emotional scars. She is still brave and continues to live despite her agoraphobia and complex trauma. When they meet first, sparks fly. Millie had made a few friends. Renzo has learned to make friends in Jasper Creek, though he balks at putting down roots and creating lasting relationships.

This wonderful story is about rising above the challenges and giving yourself a chance to really live your life. It makes me see hope when all else fails and I love the truly wonderful transformation that both Renzo and Millie go through to get to where they need to be.

I love that and I will be reading this one again. A truly good story about strong women with fortitude and strong good men who can protect as well as be the one standing behind the people they love.

A huge shout out to the author Caitlyn O’Leary.

I absolutely loved meeting Millie and getting to know Renzo more in this book. It has to be the best one yet from this series. Millie has been dealing with trauma and loss since she was 14 years old when she lost her parents in a fire; she doesn't leave her farm ever except once a year to go see her Dr in Iowa. Renzo Drakos has been staying in Jasper Creek for several months and has been asked to go help Millie with her orchard by the man who operates it. As Millie and Renzo get to know each other love quickly blossoms. While Renzo is out of town Millie is held hostage in her home. While Renzo fears she will backslide from the little progress she has made, she surprises him and has come out the other side. This book has all the feels and a little suspense. These are all stand alone stories but the characters are recurring through the series. I couldn't put it down and am looking forward to visiting Jasper Creek again. I read an Advanced E-copy and am Voluntarily leaving a review.

We start the story with a glimpse into the life of Renzo as a little boy. Plucked from the streets of Peru he was given a second chance with a bunch of other misfits and grew into an amazing man.
Millie had a horrific incident in her life, fire, the loss of her parents and home. Growing up with relatives she had a rough life, bullied at school, her burn scars left her in pain a lot and limping.
Grown up now and running the family orchard where she had spent her early years. Her anxiety kept her locked onto the farm, not willing to get out and make friends until Renzo rocks her world. He is gentle and kind and admires her spirit.
I spent quite a lot of this story trying not to cry, such an emotional roller coaster of a story. Just when things are going fine someone nearly destroys her.
The ending oh my gosh the ending. Great story, I highly recommend it.

Renzo & Millie

What a triumphant story! This story is clenching, exciting, serious, and heartwarming all in one.

I absolutely fell in love with Renzo with how he treats Millie with such care from the first moment he meets her. He totally gets her even if he doesn’t initially understand what she has gone through in her life. He immediately becomes protective of her and knows what she needs to deal with other people and the maintenance of her farm.

I love Millie’s spunk and strong personality. We feel her sorrow at the beginning as we learn what happened to her and her parents, but as the story progresses, we learn of Millie’s inner strength and determination fueled by her love for Renzo.

I thoroughly enjoyed their journey and look forward to more stories like this from this author.

Absolutely loved this latest instalment from Ms O'Leary.
In previous books we have learned a little about Drakos but here we find out about his back story, how this broke my heart all his younger self went through.
Millie had a tough childhood through very different reasons and had shut herself away from most of society.
They meet through Drakos helping out , filling in for a job for a sick acquaintance, he meets Millie and so the story starts.
The way these two get to know, trust and love each other was just a delight to read encompassing the greatly characters Ms O'Leary crafts I was totally drawn into the tale and the book finished before I was ready to put these two new friends to one side.
I would give this more than 5 stars if I was able, I just hope that these pair will turn up in future books from this series so I can find out about how their story plays out further.

Everyone Needs Their Own Renzo Drakos!!

Millie Randolph lost her parents in a fire at age 14. She was badly burned/scarred from this experience, and honestly is still recovering today. She cannot leave her house except to go out to the family orchards. Renzo is asked to assist when students are scheduled to assist in storm cleanup.

Renzo was adopted as were his many “siblings”. He sees the fear within Millie, and is able to slowly and kindly push his way through her walls. A beautiful and affirming relationship commences.

Full of snickerdoodles, peaches, blackberries, chosen family, and friends who will always have your back. Simply a wonderful story.

We met Millie and Renzo in past outings in Jasper Creek and have seen snippets of their past but now we get to see the full story come to life. Millie’s life has been heart wrenching and she just needs someone to step up and help her out of her shell. Renzo is absolutely amazing, from their first interaction he is just astounding. I truly enjoyed how we got to see the events of Home At Last from Millie’s perspective and how much of a fighter she really is. This book will pull on the heartstrings, but the angst is never too much that you feel like you need to walk away from it, in fact it’s actually hard to put down. You can always count on a Caitlyn O’Leary book being great and this one is no different! I received an ARC and voluntarily left this review.

Omg this book absolutely blew me away ! Congrats Caitlyn Oleary on another phenomenal Story With all the right feels and so much more. Runzo story is one of the most heartbreaking stories and so is Millies and I had to stop a few times at tge beginning because my heart just heart for them. Now years later Runzo is sent to help Millies farm manager to help take care of storm damage but when he meets her can he keep h8s distance from her? Millie doesn't leave her house or let anyone in but something about Runzo makes her feel comfortable but when things happen can they make things work out for them and both get their happy ending? Or will someone try to hurt her? Great book. Very compelling and captivating and tantalizing and so much more.

How could one not swoon over Renzo Drako? I loved how he gradually pulled Millie our of her shell, fears of her past & not being able to leave her home/orchard due to all her anxiety. And who wouldn't melt at any man who hand selects a woman's favorite chocolates to bring to her as a gift?! (SIGH)
She comes into her own with Renzo's constant attention, flirting & sasses right back at him. Her terrible hostage situation was very unsettling to read, but she digs in deep & from then on begins her survival toward the woman she wants to be for herself & for Renzo. Loved how Caitlyn brings in her characters from her previous books/series as they relate to this current book. Thanks again for a wonderful read!

Renzo and Millie

Loved the small-town background, JC is full of caring and nosy people. The story was heartbreaking, and I loved it. Drama and action included was awesome.
Sometimes it seemed as though the author was targeting a much younger audience during descriptions such as the cherry picker, and all the cookie baking.
It also seemed rushed towards the end, and the actual ending left me scratching my head. So it was happy, she said yes, but incomplete for me. There's a lot of loose ends which need tying in my opinion. I could only give this three stars. I believe the author can do a much better job on small town romance with a full, well-rounded out, and balanced journey with more to the HEA!

Two broken souls, both trying to overcome the daily struggles of life while fighting their own internal demons. Both don’t believe they deserve love and don’t trust that it can happen, or trust easily at all. Renzo grew up on the streets but now has a career he loves and friends that became his family. Millie lost her parents in a way that left not only emotional scars, but physical scars as well. When they meet, they both recognize the lost souls they both are and feel a sense of home in one another. Watching them learn to trust one another and their feelings makes for a great story! Even when tragedy strikes, once again you wonder if Millie will overcome it to have the life they both want together. Great Read!

Due to his past Renzo wasn’t certain that he wanted the restrictions that he believed love and marriage would bring however he is beginning to second guess that choice. When Millie needs help on her orchard the feelings he has for her are unlike anything he has ever felt before and now what he really wants is a future with her and to help her heal.

Millie has a devastating past which has caused her to withdraw from people and not allow anyone close. When Renzo shows up to help her first instinct is to refuse however, he slowly breaks through her walls and shows that she is perfect just the way she is and that he is a man she can count on for now and always.

This is a heartwarming story about love, family that is filled with emotion and a little intrigue.

I just loved Renzo and Millie's story. Renzo has been a bit of a rolling stone traveling all over the world. Now, he finds himself wanting to settle down just like his brothers and sisters. Fate led him to Millie Randolph, a woman who has him intrigued. They bonded over the things that happened in their childhood. Slowly they get to know each other and feelings develop. I couldn't put this book down. It's such a touching and heartwarming story. Can be read as a stand alone but, I highly recommend the other two stories in the series. Sorry, no spoilers. Another great book in this new series, this time following the story of Renzo Drakos and Millie. The story starts with explaining how Renzo became part of the truly inspirations Drakos family. This book is a touching and heartwarming story exploring the struggles to overcome trauma and begin to trust. Renzo is such a caring character and once he finds his soulmate in Millie we really see this wanderer want to settle down. This is an uplifting small town romance with several characters from previous books who pop in to visit. I really enjoyed this book and am sure this talented author has many more tales to come. I really cannot wait to see what is next in store.

Her Hidden Smile is the second book in the Jasper Creek series, and it was wonderful. It is full of all of the feels and humor. Caitlyn O’Leary writes great characters. Millie doesn’t leave her house due to the trauma that she experienced when she was a child. Renzo is very good at dealing with scared people since he lives in a family full of skittish adopted kids. Their feelings for each grow when Renzo goes over to help her on her farm. Danger comes knocking at Millie’s door, and Renzo and friends come to save the day. This story is a very enjoyable wild ride to their happily ever after.
