Jewels Trust #1

Mistaken Trust: a crime suspense thriller

Rate this book
AUTHOR’S NOTE: Intended for brave readers not intimidated by strong language, violence, and sexual situations and the gasps and cringes they may induce throughout this novel. This is the first novel in the six-book series where trust spells MURDER.

Wealthy. Beautiful. Strong-willed. Widowed nearly eighteen months ago due to a freak accident that claimed her husband's life, Jewels may be ready to seek companionship and love again.

But a murdering psychopathic stalker, known as the Commander, has other plans. He wants her and will stop at nothing to have her.

Ruthlessly kidnapped, she is held prisoner by a violent covert militia in their mountain hideout. Jewels is forced to do whatever is necessary to survive and avoid the hideous tortures of the demented Commander. Even if she must resort to trusting one of her captors. The right choice may lead to freedom. Perhaps even love. Mistaken trust, however, will almost guarantee horrible torment and a ghastly death.

Whom will she trust? Will her choice help her escape? Could she be falling in love with him, or is she a victim of Stockholm Syndrome? Or will stubbornness and mistaken trust lead to her demise?

If you dare ... join the sexy and independent heroine, Jewels, in this heart-pounding suspenseful first episode of the six-book Jewels TRUST series by downloading Mistaken Trust now.

About the author

Shirley Spain

45 books31 followers

Shirley resides in West Jordan, Utah, USA, with her husband and their four-legged children.

She is a graduate of the West Jordan Citizens Police Academy, a CERT member (Community Emergency Response Team) and a VIPS (Volunteers In Police Service) with the West Jordan police.

Shirley enjoys the variety of “research” opportunities her stories offer. She’s been on police “ride alongs,” conducted interviews with law enforcement experts regarding matters such as escaping handcuffs without a key and creating “dead man switches” for bombs.

With the help of willing accomplices, she’s role-played scenes, including being “kidnapped” and thrown into a car, zipped up in a body bag, and locked in the trunk of a car, only to name a few of her stunts!

One might be surprised by the many experiments she has done on herself—for novel research, of course—involving handcuffs, duct tape, chain, rope, hazmat suits, night vision headlamps…

Keeping that in mind, when you read her novels you may wonder how many of the stunts described in the story Shirley might have tried on herself, or someone else ... but she’ll never tell! Or will she? Visit her website to find out more.

A Real Page Turner

If all of Shirley Spain's books are anywhere near this first book's suspense level, you will thrilled to know that there are several more books in this series for your pleasure. I was.unable to put this book down until I couldn't keep my eyes open a second longer. Mistaken Trust contains a.romance, horror, secret societies, and secret identities. A must read for sure!

Not good

No suspense. Badly written. Think the author tried for a mixture of romance, erotica and thriller. Didn't work for me at all.

WOW! What a story. To give an overall review would take pages. Main plot Jewels is kidnapped for the leader of an extreme militia group who lusts for her and wants to surgically “cleanse her”. Jewels is an amazing woman who never gives up and fights against heavy odds. There are several subplots that could be the basis for many books. Fairly early in the book I knew who the Commander was but there were plenty of surprises. I especially likeTanks action near the end of the book. Of course, the good guys win in the end
The details are outstanding and made me feel like I was right there.
I did enjoy the book and recommend it
I received a free copy and am writing this honest review voluntarily.

Awesome book. I read this in one sitting. It grabbed me from the start and just kept getting better. I could not stop reading. Jewels is a hell of a character. She never gives up and fights her kidnappers with everything she has. I am so looking forward to reading the rest of this series. There is a lot of very mature and graphic scenes. The Commander gets his just dues in triplicate!!

This book was fantastic and terrifying all at the same time.

Jewels is a woman who knows how to take care of herself, but she also knows that sometimes you have to rely on others. I would definitely be interested in reading more from Ms. Spain. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a rough and tumble ride from start to finish.

Intriguing yet brutal

The story was a nice long novel with well developed characters. I am not a fan of crime brutality however it set the scene for the plot to unfold. Many clues dropped with multiple villains a possibility. Once I was able to overlook many grammatical errors I enjoyed the book. The story lasted just long enough.

Edge of the seat throughout

An absolutely mind blowing thriller. Non-stop action, elicits all sorts of emotions, kept me riveted and couldn't put it down. This book showcases the talent of the author for thriller, suspense and psychological genres.
Highly recommend reading this and other books from this incredible author.

Good Read

I love a good mystery thriller and this did not disappoint!. The story begins with a crazy man obsessing about owning Jewel Andrasi by any means necessary. Kidnap. Toture. Rescue follow in a way that will keep you reading until the end. Moved all the drama!!

This book was awesome. I loved everything about it-the characters, the writing, the story itself.
Everything was great. A little graphic in places but it fit right in with the story. I wouldn't change a thing.

The plot is too long, the book full of grammatical mistakes. There are too many cliches and it needs a good spell check. 'Miz', really?

This was a great story line, but the author over did it on the multiple escapes and captures over and over again. It really became like a comedy instead of a crime thriller.

One of the worst books I have ever read. The only reason I finished it was because I hate leaving a book partly read! Its like the worst Mills and Boon novel mixed with a poorly written thriller. It's full of brand name dropping like the author feels she needs to show off the fact that she knows these names/brands. The sad thing is, there's a great storyline in there trying to escape. What a pity it didn't make it.
