Epic Shared Universe! If you are looking for an epic story that spans multiple authors and characters that will be presented with numerous books over several years, then start reading the Barter Wars Shared Universe now!
Join five award-winning authors as they spin stories of incredible adventure, intrigue, and discovery in a newly launched shared universe.
Set in the American Wild West of the 1880s, each book series is its own unique story in the author's distinctive style: all connected in a common time and place, with shared events and characters.
Each series starts on its own, covering events in Texas, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. The more significant events of the universe begin to shape each journey as things progress. We start with a mystery, a snake oil salesman moving about the west, offering an elixir that might actually work.
Who is the stranger, and where does he get this magical green liquid from? Why do people seem to react differently to it, and why are some towns left prosperous while others slide into ruin after his visits?
The story begins with David Edward's New Western Book #1: Rick Calhoon and the Town Full of Evil Cannibals. Followed by Chad Miller's trilogy of novellas: Cerberus books one, two, and three. Then M.P. McDonald's The Great Swarm. Followed by a new series from best-selling Author Barb Jones; and another new series from writer and film producer Neil Chase.
D. Edward served as a Special Agent in the US Army in the 1980's and 1990's and is a veteran of multiple overseas combat tours. He was the Special Agent in Charge of the 1990 Panama Canal counter-terrorism threat assessment report to the US Congress.
Edward is a graduate of the United States Army Intelligence School where he studied advanced HUMINT (Human Intelligence) and battlefield counterintelligence; also completing training at the Jungle Operations Training Center in Panama, Central America. He holds advanced degrees in engineering including a Ph.D. from NCU, three related M.Sc. degrees (MBA, MSIT, MSIM), and has an undergraduate degree in business (BSBA).
His books typically reach the Amazon Kindle top 10 upon release in their genre. 'End of Reason' was his first work to reach #1 on Amazon in its category, on June 22, 2021. 'Unreasonable' reached #1 as a pre-order and held the spot for over a month upon release.

Well, its about a West Point graduate cowboy, the old West, mining towns, devil worshippers, zombies, and stresses don't trust anyone. Interesting concept.
My thanks to the author, David Edward, for my electronic copy of this book. #Goodreads Giveaway
Sometimes Kindle books are free for a reason. Because they're not very well written or compelling. But this one is so engaging, very well written, and has some delectably dark humor and it's still free on Kindle! Bonus.
I really love a good horror book set in the wild west and while this one has what you would expect from the title, it's atmospheric narrative and really intriguing characters are what makes this a fantastic book.
Rick Calhoon is a bad guy who's trying to go straight. But his "itch" for killing just won't go away. He finds himself in a dusty ol' town called Empire and decides to be the new sheriff since the last one was just murdered.
But with some Irish gangs, two Texas Rangers, and a decidedly tempting but evil woman all surrounding him, his new job might not last long. Oh, and this town is full of devil worshippers which, of course, means some bad stuff is going to happen!
I really loved the authors writing style and that dusty feeling he creates of being in the wild west. It sets the perfect atmosphere for the narrative.
The book does end quite abruptly, leaving some questions unanswered, but there's a sequel coming soon (fingers crossed) and the story can pick up from there. I'm looking forward to it and I highly recommend picking up this one for now.
Rick Calhoon: and the Town Full of Evil Cannibals by David Edward caught my attention because I was looking for something different. For me the beginning was a little slow and hard to get into. It was hard to believe that the story took place in the 1800's. The way the characters spoke and acted felt more current. I feel like the author could have done a little more research on dialect and some behaviors of the 1800's. More detail on characters could have been added to make me more familiar and closer to them. There were minor spelling errors and some paragraphs felt out of place, like the paragraph didn't match the story that was on the rest of the page.
Okay, hard part over, now on to the good stuff!! The middle of the book was really good. It climaxed fast! I found myself really flying through pages. Those unexpected twists and turns made the climax of the story very interesting, and I found it hard to put the book down. I think the author has a great imagination to come up with this kind of story. He kept it interesting and the darkness of the story really felt evil and put knots in my stomach. The author had the ability to draw me in to his story and make me feel like I was present, watching these dark scenes unfold. The cliff hanger at the end makes me feel optimistic about a sequel. I would really like to see where this author's imagination takes us next!!
Rick Calhoun: and the town full of cannibals was a really great read. The title and the front cover caught my eye and my curiosity.
From the beginning of the book and to the end there were lots of twists and turns in the the story that kept me very interested. This book was fast paced thriller! It’s has that western feel with some dark themes.
I enjoyed the how descriptive the author was when he talked about the characters and the scenery. I like that each character has a very relatable personality that you can see in reality.
I am excited that there will be a second book that I can read. I recommend this book and look forward to what’s in store from this author.
This book was fast paced thriller! It’s a Western at heart with dark themes. I loved the authors voice and my favorite character is one that is just reminisced upon which gave him such intrigue. It ends on a cliff hanger and leaves me wanting more.
Mr. Edward has written another impressive story with fast paced action and great characters. BTW, a most interesting concept in different authors continuing the series. I can't wait for more.
