Chasing A Starlight

Rate this book
After her father's passing, Soleil moved to the fancy house in the suburbs that he left her. She called it the perfect parting gift. With a fully paid house and less bills on her shoulders, it’d be easier to focus on her career.

What she did not expect to come with house was the grumpy man who lived next door.

After countless failed attempts to talk to him, Soleil figured it was best to stay on her side of the yard. But when a storm strikes the last place Soleil thought she’d seek shelter was at his place. The last person she thought would be so thoughtful and tender towards her was him.

He’s a good catholic. He swears to behave.
A line has been blurred, one that was never there. And temptation would be the death of him and, his well-mannered values. Even if temptation was a young woman with legs for days.

I can’t NOT give it a five star bc it’s my book, but I am very proud of Reiner, I blushed and giggled sometimes when I wrote about him, he’s like the ULTIMATE cinnamon roll… the things he says… the things he does…😵‍💫

Soleil on the other hand, home girl cannot keep her mouth closed for shit, she has NO SHAME… none. The intrusive thoughts always win lol, but I did find her fun to write bc she was definitely NOTHING like me haha

They were cute or whateva🙄

First ever ARC review! I’m so happy I had the chance to be apart of this book journey. So proud of you🥹

Okay, okay… i LOVED this book! Everything about it was exceptional. The main characters, I loved them like they were my own. Soleil was our cute, fun, and awkward journalist. Reiner was our hot, grumpy lawyer and also single father ;)

Those two put together was everything. They were cute and sexy. I absolutely loved that Reiner wasn’t afraid to show his emotions in front of Soleil, and how Soleil wasn’t afraid to tell him how it is.

Tropes:
- Single father
- age gap
- grumpy x sunshine
- journalist x lawyer
- neighbour’s

I’m obsessed with this book. I’m so happy that I have the published version so that I can put in my bookshelf. Chasing a starlight is a amazing romance if you like the tropes: age gape (23 & 32), grumpy x sunshine, next door neighbor and single father. The MMC does fuck up but he’s gonna grovel REAL good <3

These characters will always have a special place in my heart. And Reiner is one of my favorite book boyfriends!

The couple is also interracial (Black woman x white man)

This book was okay i guess didn’t really hit like i thought it would. Was excited because of the grumpy x sunshine trope which is one of my favourites but didn’t really do it for me

I had a hard time getting past the grammar/spelling errors and the predictability behind the plot.

to get an idea of what the book is about: ‧₊˚

after soleil's father's death she inherits his house in the suburbs.
she makes an attempt of baking a pie for her next-door neighbor but it doesnt go too well. he tells her he doesnt like pies and shuts the door on her face, looking irritated.
from that day on they have avoided eachother.
reiner seems like a very serious and unpleasant guy who probably could never feel empathy for another human being. until soleil sees him pull up in the driveway with a small blonde girl. anna. his daughter. hes a devoted father and his daughter is the world to him.
he fixes her car for no apparent reason and drives her to campus, what is going on? why is he suddenly being *nice*?

---

i loved this book. it was so entertaining and i was hooked i finished it so quickly.
the writing style is really good too.

i really liked the main characters. soleil was a really kindhearted person nd i like how at the end she stood her ground for a long time iykwim. reiner was just so HSHAGSFYHS like i loveddd the moments where we saw him w his daughter fatherly love is such a heartwarming thing, he was also rly hot + rich (i was giggling and kicking my feet whenever he appeared) the things he says and doesss rahhhh omg.

anna ofc a pure child, thought it was funny how in josie's she played TOH nd that she was an ipad kid😭.

(other characters like hayley i honestly didn't care for much i did feel kinda bad though because of the father situation, i wish we would've gotten clearance on what ended up happening at the end) (maybe it was mentioned but since when i read i sometimes skim a few words or doze off bc i have rly bad concentration skilsl i mightve not seen it)
(luke was a nice guy ig surprisingly i wasnt annoyed by his character, ian too was a nice addition, noa: a fcking blackmailer and i hated her sorry🥰🥰)

soleil's parents story was interesting, reiner's divorce process was intriguing (his parents story not so much tho imo)

this story if we based it off vibes is a 5 definetly. i loved it so so much. i wish i could criticize it but my minds so clouded with how much i love this book so i cant think of anything.

something to that annoyed me a bit was the grammar there were a lot mistakes scattered around.

i feel like it wasn't a slowburn but it had a slight element of it to it nd it was well done for the most part but i feel like at one point its like characters switch from dislike to being head-over-heels nd it bugs me a bit.
(in general i dont like the relationship phase of books i like the tension and grovelling and i definetly loved the grovelling at the end i love angsty or sad scenes) (the dating part tho was really cute, i did enjoy it)

i lied it lowkey was a slowburn but it just happened fairly quickly bro and i lovefd how desperate reiner was.

okay now about the smut scenes.
there is so many. i wss like woah woah woah hold on cause it's back to back. 😭😭 but theyre good (except the "mommy" one, im sorry it just icked me out sm, thats just me tho!) i normally dont enjoy books with smut as much bc i like to focus more on the deep emotional connections not the sexual ones but i feel like u could see the characters loved eachother (i am making no sense right now forgive me)

in every scene that was like soleil in college i was kinda bored tho i skim-read.
i feel like this book has a lot of potential and its actually rlly good i just feel like its a bit too simple. like the divorce process is basically told not showed for the most part, theres only like 1 like major important sad scene and it was really stupid and from the m/mc's part it could've been prevented.

kinda wattpad vibes

really cute book (despite the small complaints, nd the fact i gave it 3 stars. i feel it was lacking something but idk what it is)

age rating - 18+

This was a really enjoyable book. I loved both characters. The third break-up was unnecessary but not badly written so I’m not mad. Anna was adorable. I loved the fact she was a wrestler at 7 years old LMAOO!! Soleil had such a sweet soul, I adored her. Reiner annoyed me at first. He really needed to stop denying his feelings and man up. Then in the end I loved him. I mean how could you not. Honestly I really enjoyed this book. It was so chill and fun but still kept you hooked. 4 stars.

I read this book on wattpad first so i know i loved it on there. but i re-read the book and i guess it felt more clumsy the next time i read it. it felt like icebreaker how none of the scene flowed and it was just like a bunch of scenes put together. the smut however... DAYUMMMMMM. she ate with her writing and her writing style but a more flowy book comes with experience so i have no doubt she will get there. support black authors!!

I was wondering why on earth would they choose to go to Canada for a trip as a fellow Canadian😭lol the way he grovelled it was so cute I hated him for what he said but all is forgiven he really regretted what he said.

Man rented a whole ass plane and made Tessa Virtue come back from retirement to do a special performance for her like damnnn

I got the book because the main love interest’s name was Reiner. I might be bias but I really enjoyed this book! It definitely read like a fanfiction, I will not lie, and the main character got on my nerves a bit, but it was a fun read and I actually wouldn’t mind reading it again.

DNF @ 54% what in God‘s holy name was this book??? The writing was so disjointed, I felt like I was getting ADHD just trying to keep up with the authors all over the place writing. And also what the hell is up with the use of italics like use it once or twice to make a point but using it every single sentence makes things really annoying to read. also that confession scene, what in God‘s holy name was that???

there have been so many books and so many authors that have started to come out of the woodwork because of the popularity of booktok… come on people we need quality control PLEASE

I read it on wattpad when she first started writing and it was absolutely amazing. I saw the entire journey of the characters update after update. I loved Reiner and even though he would try to act nonchalant, he would do something right after that would remind you of how much he truly cared about the people around him and especially, Soleil. I can’t wait until I can get the paper back and read it all over again. You won’t regret getting this book!

I liked it. I did notice quite a few spelling errors, but I kinda looked past that because I know it was the authors first published book.

I thought the story was good pretty. There were some small chapters where nothing would be happening. I liked kinda the roller-coaster it took you on towards the end. The last chapters did feel like a wattpad story, other then that I never really noticed, but I still thought it was cute and a nice end to the chapter before.

Steamy Read, a few flaws

This book definitely has a bit of spice to it. Overall, I liked Soleil and Reiner. The story itself was great. I think that the book needs to go through another editing phase. It just takes a little bit away from the experience for me.

very enjoyable

Love the story line. The main character felt real (didn’t always agree with her choices or thought process, but I was rooting for her the whole time).

*maybe one more round of editing. There were a few spelling and grammar errors.

This book was great but i would’ve loved to see them prepare for the wedding or how he proposed to her (because i know it was extravagant lol) I would love to read a sequel!!!

I absolutely LOVED this book. The plot was great, the steam was even better, and as a mixed girl i loved the interracial couple dynamic. However there were a few flaws in terms of missing words, but other than that i loved this book !!

Good read

This was a good read. The single dead trope mixed with an age gap trope worked well for me. Only thing that can be better is fixing typos.
