Talk about a "One Stop Shop" of information! I was well pleased when reading this Beginner's Guide as it truly is an incredibly helpful step-by-step for the first time gardener like myself. Ms. McKay was direct and to the point on the how-to's of making the most out of small spaces, even giving the most beneficial sides of a building (North, South, East or West) for different plants. I was grateful that each chapter was specific to answering any question a beginner would have including charts, pictures and tables. SO DELIGHTED! But Ms. McKay doesn't just leave you hanging with just starting your garden, no, she also includes when to harvest and how to preserve using different methods. As someone who was eager to start a garden this year, I was also nervous because it can be daunting. This Guide came along just in time to make me less nervous and even more excited now that this knowledge is at my fingertips. I look forward to sharing pictures of my progress as well as the fruits of my labour with friends and family, especially the recipes included! Yum! Reading this book was like speaking with a friend as it included some of her own experiences which gave me a smile. She did not, however, overly indulge and went right back to sharing her wisdom. Just the kind of friend I appreciate! This is a book you will be thankful to have at hand to start your garden anywhere.

Great book with lots of information. Follows on from the author’s book on permaculture. How to grow with nature in small and not so small spaces. I will be using a lot of the information in my garden this year. I have learnt so much from this book, looking forward to trying these methods in the spring.

So helpful!

I love that the information offered in this guide is so clear, simple, and concise. I have several gardening books, but I think this will be the one I refer to most this growing season because I can very quickly look up the answers I need without having to sift through page after page. I'm going to read her permaculture book next!

Great book for anyone looking for good info and instructions on container gardening. I have been gardening for 40 years and learned a few new ideas I can put to use in my garden. I especially liked the illustrations about container sizes and volume, I always have a problem with that! This was an easy read and so very useful.

Sophie takes you step by step and made me feel confident that I can actually do this myself. Not only that, I am actually excited to start growing and even bought my first seeds today!

Thank you Sophie for this wonderful guide.
