Going away to college should be the best time of your life, but for Lanie Montgomery it's an escape. After an abusive relationship leaves her distrustful, Lanie has no desire to be in one, let alone fall in love.
While Lanie tries to avoid people, Xander continues to show up in her life around every corner. From the moment she lays eyes on him, a connection is made. Their passion develops into a bond that both scares and entices her. It's turned into something she feels it shouldn't have.
But then her past creeps back in, her ex wreaking havoc on their lives She knows Xander wants to save her, but she thinks he can't. She feels she has to take care of herself, but everything starts to fall apart. Because...
The past. Always. Catches. Up.
And its secrets haunt them both. Will their love be strong enough?
Krista Swanson lives in New Jersey with her husband. They have three children, but only one is left to get out of the nest. Once they do, travel across the US and Europe is in their plans. She loves the beach, mainly the Jersey beaches, which she feels don’t get the love they deserve.
When she’s not writing, she is most definitely reading. Her lifelong love of reading romances gave her all of the ideas busting to get out of her brain. While doing either, though, the mug in hand will not have coffee in it. The blasphemy—it will be tea!

I was given an ARC from author, Krista Swanson - thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to read this!
Typically, I'm hesitant to read novels from newer authors, though I'm unsure as to why I am this way. However, with All My Firsts, I was pleasantly surprised. Please read the trigger warnings before deciding to read this story, as they begin pretty quickly in the novel!
Lanie is a young girl trying to escape an abusive relationship, though I don't even think abusive is the correct word. What she endured is downright horrendous. Here, she makes friends with her roommate, and two other boys as well as the hunky Xander, though their friendship quickly escalates into something more despite them not wanting to put any labels on anything too quickly. They bond over a shared trauma. However, Lanie's past life is quickly catching up with her present life and things go quickly awry from there. But Lanie and Xander do end up getting the happy ever after they both are deserving of.
Definitely 4 stars on this one. With any new author, there is bound to be some editing issues, and this one is no exception. But, I enjoyed the story and it kept me reading. Not a ton of spiciness which is okay given the nature of the novel itself. But, I definitely enjoyed the read and am thankful for the opportunity I was given by Krista Swanson!
I had the pleasure of receiving an ARC copy of this book and let me tell you I could not put it down!
It’s been quite some time since I started a book that kept me up ALL night reading because I couldn’t get enough. And this one man oh man… 🥹
The ups and downs and chemistry between characters had me hooked. I think I was maybe 25% into the book when I shed my first tear. The MMC is sweet, caring, and literally a dream man. And the FMC if you’ve ever been through some shit you can absolutely relate to her. There is a lot of heavy topics in this book so check trigger warnings but if you can handle it this is definitely a MUST READ!
Absolutely loved this debut book from Krista Swanson. I am a sucker for character development and this book was full of it. Krista didn't shy away from a tragic backstory and her FMC truly grew and I felt like I knew her and she wasn't a fictional character. I am so thankful to have had a chance to read this ARC copy. I am already for the second book!
I am absolutely in love with Xander and Lanie’s story. The emotions so raw and real, I have loved following their story page after page, the character development in point, the plot!!! The plot so good, there’s no other way then to root for the two of them!!! This book now lives rent free in my head ♥️
WOW! I am so impressed Krista. This was such a fantastic read for a debut story. I fell in love with the characters and couldn’t put it down. It held my interest through the whole story. I cried 🥹and laughed 😂and got angry😡. I kept saying…“Ok ok 1 more chapter then, I’ll stop for the night” and before I knew it I was finished. I was truly invested in the story. I can’t wait to see how Becca and Ty’s story pans out. 🥰 WAY TO GO KRISTA! You should be proud! *Check your trigger warnings*.
*******TINY SPOILERS BUT I DONT GIVE AWAY TOO MUCH*******
I was SO lucky to have been selected to get an ARC for this book and I made sure I went into this completely blind. I wanted a fresh mindset going into it so I could give a true and honest review.
PLEASE READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS FIRST. IF ANY OF THEM WILL BOTHER YOU PLEASE DO NOT READ THIS BOOK! IT HAS SOME PRETTY HEAVY STUFF!
I simply could NOT put this book down. The fact that this is Krista's first book is mind bending. I was immediately hooked. I absolutely loved how everyone around Lanie was so patient with her and could tell that she needed time to work up the courage to be social even without knowing what caused her anxiety.
Lanie resonated with me so much. I have been in her shoes and I have felt the things she has felt and thought the things she has too. The fact she gets her Happily Every After in the end after all she had to endure with Max's bitchass made me so warm inside. She is a damn queen.
Xander? The man is sheer perfection. His protective-ness? Swooning over here. His patience?? Good lord! He is definitely on my list of favorites for sure. The whole "touch her and I'll unalive you with my bare hands" mindset he has is top notch.
Max..........F You dude I literally hate you. Go back to the level of hell you crawled out of.
Story line was amazing. Plot was amazing. This book is just amazing.
I need Book 2! This will follow Becca and Ty. I just loved them and want more of their story! Shoutout to Becca for being just the greatest human ever.
When this book hits the shelves, go get it IMMEDIATELY!! MAY 17TH IS RELEASE DAY! Even though I have it on my Kindle, this book will grace my shelf and be added to my collection <3
Krista...my girl....keep doing what you're doing. You have unbridled talent <3 I am definitely down to ARC book 2 ;)
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of this this book from the Author. I was hooked from the start of the book! It’s a slow burn college romance with Lanie & Xander being the main characters in the book. Both characters have very difficult pasts & are instantly drawn to each other. They find strength in each other but it’s not an easy path to happiness. There’s some very difficult parts to read so check the trigger warnings but there’s some beautiful moments that are so romantic, some heartbreaking parts & some funny parts. There’s not loads of spicy parts but the spice is perfect for the characters. The other characters in the book make you want to know more about them too so I’m really looking forward to the next book already! I Highly recommend this book to all my fellow romance lovers it was really well written.
I received this book as an ARC and completely devoured it.
Definitely a book that you should check trigger warnings as it included abusive relationships, abuse and violence and may not be suitable for everyone.
With that being said it was a beautiful story of two people (Lanie and Xander) with a troubled past finding each other and falling so madly in love it starts to heal past wounds.
Xander is willing to go to the ends of the earth to keep Lanie safe and is put to the test when and abusive ex reappears.
This story has so much love and heartache mixed in with a plot twist and found family. Tears were definitely shed and it ends with a happy ending.
5⭐️ 1.5🌶️ I was lucky enough to receive this book as an ARC from debut author Krista Swanson. This is a college Romance about Lanie and Xander. Lanie is escaping her abusive ex boyfriend when she heads to college 1300 miles away. She has PTSD and struggles with normal things like going to parties, out to lunch, or even the slightest touch. She sees Xander and just instantly gravitates towards him. This book will make you gasp, cry, smile, and laugh. It shows you that you can get through anything with help from friends. I highly Recommend this book. I received the ARC at 7pm and stayed up until 12:30 reading it. I could not put it down. Make sure you pick this book up on release date of May 17!💕
This book has Trigger warnings. I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book. Let me tell you, Krista Swanson first book is so good. Lanie and Xander are they going to make it? How does Lanie deals with PTSD? Is she going to be able to escape from her ex boyfriend? And her new college roommate, Becca helps her deal with normal teenager things.

Overall, I think this was a good debut for this author!
Ultimately, it wasn’t for me, which is why I held my review for a few weeks after release.
I decided on 3 stars for a few reasons, but mostly because I did finish the book, I would still recommend it to certain readers, and I would still try this author again in the future, even if this one wasn’t for me.
Some things I liked:
- The MMC - The Anxiety/PTSD Rep - The first half of the book
Things I didn’t enjoy as much:
-The pacing of the FMC & MMC romantic relationship - most of the second half - the plot twists
So let’s get into this.
The pacing. It felt to me like the romantic relationship here was progressing more behind the scenes than it was on page. The author seemed to rely on massive time jumps as a means of moving this relationship along. This meant that I had very little investment in the couple, and found it hard to believe when they were on page.
The second half and the plot twists go together. In the first half, I was all on board. I enjoyed the slow start to the relationship, and I even liked the crazy stalker ex boyfriend as a thrilling element. And then it got wild. Suddenly our main characters are in love (even though they were just starting slow??) and the ex is in the mafia and the FMCs Dad is on the run and the MMC has a dangerous past and it was just SO. MUCH. Too much in my opinion. It felt like the author had so many good ideas (which is not a bad thing!!) but i felt like they would’ve been better spread out among either multiple books to keep the pace slower, or even multiple storylines. I’m a dark romance girly so traumatized FMCs are my jam. But even I was thinking “how much more are we going to throw on this girl”. It almost seemed like the author was writing to tick the boxes of those ideas, rather than to wrap up the story she started at the beginning.
Please keep in mind that these are my personal opinions! Take it all with a grain of salt. I know plenty of people who would not have the same grievances as me, and would love this book.
Again, I actually think this author has a ton of potential, and I would absolutely give her future books a chance. She has great ideas and her writing was good. i would recommend this book to anyone who is newer to reading and wants to explore romantic suspense and an intro to the mafia type of story. For me though, it was a miss.
Happy Reading!

I honestly wasn’t going to write a review for this book….I only read it because I’m ARC reading the next book in the series and hadn’t read this one yet….I am so glad I did….I was Lanie….well not Lanie exactly but I felt her story….when I was 19-20 yrs old I had a Max in my life…..not to that extreme but a version of….my Max was abused at home….when he got hit I got hit…..I wore long sleeves and long pants like Lanie to cover bruises….I made lame excuses and lashed out at all the wrong people who were only trying to help…unfortunately I did not have a Xander in my life….instead I had a friend that became a best friend and now I consider a sister…trust me sisters are not always blood related and family can be who you pick I say all this to tell you to read the trigger warnings of any and all books you read….this book wasn’t triggering for me but I feel like I really understood Lanie…..maybe it healed me a little along the way…we both got away from our abusers and my Max ended up in the same place Lanie’s Max did (just not because of me)
Goodness this was literally one of the best books I have read this year. I dove head first into Lanie and Xanders story - not knowing what to expect. Not reading the blurb, tropes or anything.
And let me tell you. It was one of the most emotional journeys because I felt I have lived through a lot of Lanie’s story myself personally through my later teen years into my early 20’s, and I felt her story. I had so much empathy for what she had to endure, yet she was so strong. She is a fighter. A warrior. A truly beautiful soul.
And then Xander. You have a man who has had a rough past as well, but he knew he needed to be a rick for Lanie, and not only did he protect and support her, he helped her be the best version of herself with his own venerability and opening up about his dark past.
The way these two come full circle had me tearing up and flipping page after page. I was so drawn in from the very beginning and it held my whole attention, craving more of the story.
This was for sure a 6/5 star read for me.
I can’t wait to dive into the next story in the series.
To most, heading to college is an exciting next step towards independence. To Lanie, it’s an escape from a hell she’s been living for years. But now that she’s free, Lanie struggles to live the normal life of a college student because of the abuse she’s endured. With the help of her bubbly roommate Becca, and Xander, the guy she feels an immediate connection to the moment they lock eyes from a park bench, she begins to take back the life that was stolen from her. But the abusive ex she ran from isn’t content to just let her go. Will Lanie be strong enough to overcome her past once and for all?
“I want to hold your hand when you stand tall to face this, and I’ll be there to catch you if you fall.”
SWOON. Xander was perfection. He experienced his own trauma in the past and healed from it. He recognizes that darkness in Lanie the moment he sees her and they end up bonding over their traumas. Xander is completely honest about his feelings with Lanie but also incredibly patient and supportive. Their relationship is very emotional and romantic. It gave me all the feels.
Becca was a bit much for me personally but I think she’s exactly what Lanie needed to help break her out of her bubble and start living her life. I love that platonic friendships played a big part in Lanie’s healing and not just a love interest.
Tropes: -college romance -slow burn -strangers to friends to lovers -cinnamon roll MMC -found friends -found family -healing trauma -suspense
This was an excellent debut novel. If you enjoy any of the tropes listed above and are looking for a book that will make you feel ALL the emotions then I highly recommend you read this. It does deal with some heavy topics so make sure to check trigger warnings before jumping in.
For Lanie going away for college is not just about school. It's about starting fresh after being in an abusive relationship. It's about becoming free and finding herself.
Lanie is suffering from PTSD from all the abuse she suffered but her roommate and best friend is there to help her little by little to get out of she shell.
One day she crosses paths with Xander and emotions that she's never felt before start to develop. Xander is known as the playboy in college but there is more to him.
Xander knows Laine has gone through past traumas and he is there every step of the way to help her heal. And when her abusive ex appears again Xander will do anything in his power to help her win this battle.
This was such a sweet book. It's so sad to see how a person can fade away to almost nothing when they are in an abusive relationship but it's also beautiful to see how they find their inner strength as well. This book was very well written. Krista was able to put into words all the suffering Laine went through and walk us through her healing process.
Thank you Krista for giving me the opportunity to receive this advance read. Can't wait to read the next book in the series!
I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC copy of this book. I really enjoyed it! I like how the character’s personalities played more on the younger side. Most books set in freshmen year of college the characters seem grown beyond their years. This one you are shown little quirks that remind you they’re still young. When Lanie begins to fall for Xander, we still see the PTSD from her abusive relationship with Max. Even when they’re happy that PTSD comes back in. I like that her trauma was able to remain present and not just forgotten about when she got a new boyfriend. The story moved at a good pace, and I really enjoyed the slow progression of Lanie and Xander. It felt more realistic. I would have loved to learn more about Logan, but I feel like that will be one of the later books. As weird as it sounds, I would have liked to see more of Max’s crazy. I wanted the big scene with the FBI to be more intense. Overall though, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait for Becca’s story!

This was provided to me as an ARC read from the Author, Krista Swanson. I wanted to give a very grateful thank you to you for this wonderful opportunity to read and review this book.
Note to the reader. This book is outside of my normal novels chosen. So this was a first for me with this type of book. Please be sure to read the trigger warnings as this may be hard for some to read.
College years are viewed as the most challenging yet most regarding times in a persons life. Exploring your own personal likes and dislikes. Figuring out who you are and making life decisions. But sometimes going away to college could be used as a ticket out.
Lanie is a young women who has grown up in Texas and couldn’t wait to escape to college. But her reasons weren’t far exceeded just needing a new adventure… Lanie was escaping an abusive boyfriend.
Her college experience starts out like normal with dorm mates, meeting new people on campus and she starts to realize just how good life could be. She meets people and starts to really blossom, but trouble strikes and she has to decide for herself if she’s going to crawl back into the person of the past or move forward into this new person she is only starting to get to know.
This books is filled with twists and turns from beginning to end. And what it takes to fight back and gain back life experiences that we shattered. Such an amazing story with slow burn spice and pretty great character build. I definitely enjoyed the read.
Wow… it’s been a while since a book has left me with as many emotions as this one did. I’m not sure what I expected but this wasn’t it. I kept having to take small breaks while reading because I could feel myself taking on all of Lanies emotions. The story was fast paced, the detail was amazing and I didn’t put it down for any longer than maybe 5 minutes because I HAD to know what was going to happen next! I thoroughly enjoyed and am looking forward to book 2!
It been a minute since I’ve read a book that I couldn’t put down. Lainey’s story had me so invested since the very beginning. Lainey going off to college as the start of her healing journey but boy it was not easy. Xander is just a man that every woman dreams of and man did he have me rooting for him from the beginning. The last 30% was so back and forth I didn’t know what to think and was honestly scared for a minute. 10/10 recommend this book
Lanie has suffered for years at the hands of her boyfriend Max. Shut down and closed off is how she spends most of her freshman year at BRU. With the push of her roommate, Becca, Lanie began the attempt to gain control of her life back, but her panic attacks pulled her into the comfort of Xander on multiple occasions. Xander being no stranger to pain, he was patient with Lanie, both slowly falling in love with each other, protecting each other from the pain their past has caused. Lanie and Xander are absolute relationship goals. Xander never wavering from doing everything he can do to protect Lanie from Max while simultaneously showing Lanie that she is worthy of love and protecting, giving her much better firsts than Max has ever given her.
All My First has taken me on a ride of swooning, happiness, sadness, anger, annoyance. Krista Swanson is an incredible author and I’m very thankful to have been given the chance to read this amazing book
Unputdownable! Heartbreaking but beautiful! I truly felt this depicted PTSD and the process of healing with a lover so realistically. Xander has my heart and him and Lanie are perfection together! I haven’t loved a book or stayed up this late to finish one in a long time!
This book!!!! I had the pleasure of ARC reading this and I read it in one sitting! 5 star read for me. Not alot of spice but it was a perfect amount for this love story.
This book hit me so hard in such a good way.
Lanie is a very quiet person who is just there to get away from home and just be alone. She stays in the background so she stays un noticed, until one day of people watching she sees him, makes awkward long eye contact with Xander and that day everything changed for her.
Xander became her everything from the begining, he was her savior, became the love of her life in a short time. Xander saw her right from the time they made eye contact on that park bench. Xander is the most patient, understanding and most of all protecting when it comes to Lanie. He then has to make the worst decison he would ever have to make knowing it would only be for a short time, only to save and protect Lanie.
If you need a love story with some twists grab this book right now. This was such a beautiful story, I have a feeling I will be in a book slump after this!! I am at a loss for words on how amazing this book was. Krista you are an amazing author and I cannot wait for more of your work. Literally no words.

I was given this and an arc for my honest opinion.
So this book, wow, I read it within two days. It was such a fantastic story, full of drama. We follow Lanie, our female lead, who heads off to college, hoping that by doing so she can escape her violent ex max. While being there, Lanie learns just how much she can have now she is free of max, new friendships form and she meets the lovely Xander and an instant connection is made. So she finally feels like her life is finally her own, however max isn't done with her just yet!!
This is a slow burn romance, reading about Lanie and Xander relationship and seeing it blossom was the cutest thing I've read, they both have dark pasts that they try to hide, but soon realize they don't need to. There is a little bit of spice, but not to much, which I liked as it was more about them than the sex, but seeing Xander show Lanie that she isn't just a "tool" for someone to use during sex, was the sweetest most loving thing to see.
Then there is the suspense, the whole time reading and rooting for Lanie and Xander, I had this pit in my stomach waiting for max to finally show his ugly mug and try to destroy Lanie.
The ending to this book, was good, the suspense finally built up and spilled over onto the page. My only thought was I kind of wished there was a bit more to do with max, it felt like he was over and caught a bit to quickly.
Overall this was a fantastic read, if you are into your college romance, with a bit of a darker side then this is definitely a book you will enjoy

Xander and Lanies story is so Epic!! Lanie finding a little bit of strength to force her abusive “arranged” boyfriend into keeping his promise that she could go to college, was the start to her becoming stronger. Her insta lust turned love connection with Xander made her even more stronger. His patience, resilience, and love brought Lanie though her final break from Max, the asshole ex. Side note some of the supporting characters I loved were Becca the roommate turned bestie who fully supported her (except for a brief moment at Xanders party, for which she apologized for). Ty Becca’s boyfriend was so funny but has his own issues I’m guessing from how he’s hiding his relationship with Becca from his family. Logan, I had a Love/hate/love-hope relationship with him. He’s obviously damaged and self destructive with drinking and acting out, but his actions with Lanie at Xanders party was inexcusable, even if he was drinking. I also find him redeeming and want him to heal and find a happy ever after also. Lanies parents, definitely no excuses, hate them. Jane Xanders mom, love her and the sweet way she is with her sons and Lanie. Bryce Xanders brother is such a blue collar cop who is devoted to his family. You can tell his bond with his brother and mom drives him to be a protector.
Love that this ended with a HEA! Can wait to find out in November Ty and Becca’s story.
this book had me hooked from the very beginning! Lanie is a strong and resilient character and what she had to go through completely shattered me. She needed an escape and a fresh start and that’s what she was trying to get. From the moment she was people watching on campus and locked eyes with Xander I knew they were going to have amazing chemistry. And boy Krista did not disappoint when creating Xander. He is the perfect guy, patient and caring and so selfless when it came to doing things at Lanie’s pace. He put all aside when it came to assuring her that she was safe and he wouldn’t harm her. Unlike Max, who quite frankly can kick rocks.
My emotions were all over the place. my heart hurt for Lanie, my blood boiled when Max was involved and my anxiety at times was through the roof! I do wish we got more of a resolution then what was given, but who doesn’t love a HEA!
The story is so much more than two broken souls falling in love. It’s about fighting your demons and taking back what was ripped away from you. Together Lanie and Xander take back all the “firsts” that were so violently stripped from her. They ease in to recreating some firsts and then completely having new firsts of their own.
This book. THIS BOOK!!! Wow, just WOW! I was gifted this book as an ARC and I DEVOURED it!! I could not put it down. If your looking for a college romance with a little bit of spice and some drama and action well this is the book for u!! It’s a beautifully told love story about 2 ppl that have had some horrible and unthinkable things done to them in their lives by ppl who are supposed to love and care about them, who find each other when they need it most and face some of the worst trials and tribulations but love wins in the end. I felt all the feels with this book. Love, pride, joy, anger, frustration, fear, heartbreak and tears. There were definitely tears. Chapter 25, holy smokes!! 😳😨. Author Krista Swanson did an amazing job writing this book. I fell in love with Lanie and Xander and I just know u will too! Book comes out May 17, 2023 so make sure u run out and grab yourself a copy right away! U won’t be disappointed I promise. 🩷🩵
I was lucky enough to receive this ARC and considering it was Krista's 1st book it was amazing!! PLEASE check trigger warning for this book!! It touches on subject that alot of people will find triggering..
Quote - 'i fall in love with you more every day, birdie. You're such a gift. Each one of your touches, kisses, makes me melt. I will always be falling in love with you'
Being completely honest I found this a difficult read, the story line hit very close to home with myself but I was determined to finish this book! The FMC escapes a abusive relationship and heads off to college where she meets the MMC. When they first meet the FMC isn't looking for anything considering everything she went through but the MMC was a complete sweetheart.. the way he protected her when ever he could was swoonworthy!! I was kinda waiting for the other shoe to drop so to speak when things were a little too good and when it did I was utterly heartbroken 😭 I am however so happy Xander and Laine got there HEA 🥰
