“I am in desperate need of a Duchess that can handle little beasts…”
After being stuck to Canada for years because of the war, Alice finally steps foot on British soil again. However, home is not how she remembers it. And marrying to escape her cousin’s advances seems like the only way to save herself.
Donovan’s nephews are the bane of his existence. And despite his glorious career in the military, he cannot distill any kind of obedience to the little menaces. His last resort? A Duchess with nerves of steel.
When the Duke saves a damsel in distress only to have her hold a dagger to his throat, he knows he has found the woman he was looking for. Only… Alice proves to be too feisty for him to handle. And even more tempting to resist.
*If you like a realistic yet steamy depiction of the Regency and Victorian era, then In Need of a Duchess is the novel for you.

Violet Hamers knew from an early age that writing was something she always wanted to do. Growing up, her time was divided between writing stories and taking part in theatrical plays, that she used to perform exclusively for her family and friends.
As she loves reading and writing, she is rarely found without a book in her hands, or her fingers glued to a keyboard. Her love for reading led her to Jane Austen's world--the regency historical world that won her over in comparison to any other genre!
Even though being an author is not a simple task, her dream of becoming one has finally come true as she is currently writing Regency novels...romances her readers will love!
Follow Violet into a world of romance and fairytale, of passion and intrigue, and live unforgettable happy-ever-afters along with her protagonists that she guarantees you will remember forever.
This is my second book by the author. It started off strong. However, there are too many inconsistencies. Each scene feels separated from the next. Before marriage, the Duke wished for a love match but was willing to settle for a marriage of convenience to have a mother for his mischievous nephews who he loved and would not send to boarding school. After marriage, he refused to allow her to do anything to help his nephews. He married her not to be a mother but because he was attracted to her. This is just one example of many inconsistencies. The villain was obvious. I skimmed the last few chapters, which is rare for me.
One Spark In The Night Set This Tale On A Path To A New Future He needed a Duchesses and She needed a Husband. There needs were not about finding love, romance, or wooing, it was all about finding solutions to their problems. On one Enchanted evening two strangers meet and something strange and magical happens. There Tale begins here . Lady Alice Wisher was coming back from Canada after the War . She had been staying with her Aunt and Uncle since her parents were gone. Now trying to pick up on her life in London now of age. Only her Cousin the now heir of her Father has eyes for her. Something she defrost not want. Donovan the Duke of Thornton was the second son and a military officer. After the death of his Brother he became the Duke. Now saddled with the Dukedom and twin boys that his brother left for him to raise things became over bearing. Alice and Donovan might have had the wrong reasons for marrying each other, but the right reasons for answers to there problems. Perhaps that Magical Spark on the Fated Magical Night set a path of Love, Happiness, and A New Future for them ! That is what I like to believe for this Enchanting Story.
I loved this delightful love story. Alice is my kind of heroine. She has the courage to speak and to fight for what she wants. Maybe to her own detriment, but thats what make this story so fascinating. Donovan, well he’s the enticing stranger who takes her breath away. The meeting and their ultimate love is what makes this story so perfect. I have to say I was disappointed with the epilogue though. This was Alice and Donovan’s story to tell, not Jo and Paul’s. I’d liked a lot more incite into Alice and Donovan’s future. Violet hamers normally ties everything up with frosting on a cake. This one was more like Luke warm milk.
Marrying to avoid her cousin. He needed a wife and she needed a husband sounds like they have something in common right? Well dear reader not everything is clear cut and this story proves my point. There are some interesting twists and turns, some problems with making up one’s mind, and then there Paul. I am fond of stories with twins and this one has two delightful nephews. I think the secondary characters were what kept me engaged in the book there are some grand ones. I enjoyed reading this book and I liked the ending.
Wonderful story with exceptional characters. Donovan is an ex military man with his Kate brothers twin boys to raise with their pranks. His his friend worth suggests he marries for convenience for a woman to act as a mother little knowing he would come to love her and the twin boys. The story includes mystery, pranks from the boys and a housekeeper who is found out abusing the boys and who poisoned their father. They get their HEA and so much more. Highly recommend. Happy reading. 😊
Donovan is trying to take care of his nephews after the death of their father and is looking for a wife, on seeing Alice defend her self when attacked in the street he looks for her to as he wants her help in raising them. At first she agrees to marry him to get away from her cousin who wishes to marry her but before long they have fallen in love with each other and are taking care of his nephews.
Violet Hamers writes about love and the couples under it’s spell. Alice has returned to England after living in Canada for a number of years. The daughter of an Earl who died while visiting Canada, she wasn’t able to return home due to the English wars. When she returned to her home, Thornton, she was bent by her cousin Paul, who intended that they should marry. Unable to abide him, Alice, discouraged him at every turn.
Donovan is a Duke who has his deceased brother’s twin boys as wards. They are both rambunctious and incorrigible, and in order to quiet them down the Duke locks for a wife. Thanking your wife would act as a mother figure Donovan begins to seek out a candidate. After meeting Alice and then unusual situation, Donovan decides she is the woman for him.
Alice’s relatives from Canada arrive for her wedding and her aunt and uncle and cousin Jo and color. The characters, especially her uncle Derek, our colorful.
In Need Of A Duchess is a love story with an element of intrigue. An enjoyable read that holds the readers interest. I enjoyed it.
Alice returned home from Canada and her cousin was wanting to marry her and she did not She met Donavan a duke with twin nephews and he needs a wife to help him care for them. They fell in love and there are twists and turns but happiness in the end A good and enjoyable read Loved reading
In Need of a Duchess is a good book about carrying on family values and taking care of family when you are left to care for children who are not yours. Donovan is in need of someone to take care of his nephews and he has found the perfect Duchess. It helps that he is attracted to her as well. This book has some good love scenes. It is a sweet story.
Five stars, cute love story, but obvious ending.. Alice, and the Duke Donovan married base on his nephews.. He needed help, but never believed that he would fall in love.. Compassion, sex, drama, and laughter.. It all comes together at the end.
The Duke wanted a Duchess to help raise his nephews but he found love instead! The events the two encountered kept the story moving and helped to maintain the reader's interest.
This is a fascinating love story. All of the classic components that I enjoy in a story. Suspense, intrigue, drama and deceit by someone close to me family.
Donovan and Alice Have to learn to get along and teach two mischievous, troublesome boys. The boys reveal some shocking news. How the get to the bottom of the mystery is finding the truth and love all wrapped up with friendship and love. You have to read this story for the details.
Take two very lively orphaned twin boys, add a Duke who is their uncle-protector and a Lady who chooses to accept his offer of marriage. Mix well with a murder mystery and you have a delightful Regency Era novel!
This was an entertaining read with a creative plot. Themes of forgiveness, resentment, and nontraditional roles were featured in the book. I must admit that this wasn't my favorite book by this author.
An interesting story of a marriage of convenience, but every thing is not as it seemed ! Alice is caring and Donavan Is a military man and has been saddled with twin nephews, no idea what to do!
Beautiful romantic story where a Duke bumps into a woman coming from the theatre and promptly kisses her. She quickly disappeared with the Duke no wiser of her name. How is he going to find her?
I was interested in the book description. But extremely disappointed. The story is simple reading and jumps around with no transitions throughout the story . Not even sure how I can explain how the story is written.
He wants love but then doesn't marry for love. He wants a mother for his nephews but then doesn't let her be one at all. Then the kids are treated horribly but he's not seeing anything wrong with it. This book really had no plot direction.
Alice and Donavan’s story was a delightful read. And all the characters in this story ,made it all the more enjoyable. All but one, well that was a shock ending.Well written story and the Ending was brilliant.
I feel like the story was quite rushed in the middle. Not a lot of meat in Alice's interaction with the boys and it seemed like it was her uncle that won them over, not her. It would have made more of an impact (I think, at least) if she were the one to discover the truth.
Not a 4 stars nor a 3. If scale were available, it would be a 3.5 stars. The book had a good start but as it develop story went in to many direction with no real development of the characters.
