Assigned to Ghost: Pike Evans Novel
The Securing highly classified secret and dangerous cargo that is in high demand, even with the unknown.
Stuck in a dead end routine, thirty-year-old army veteran, Pike Evans, needed a change. Independence was not living in his fathers home.
While on his morning delivery, Pike nearly gets clipped by an unmarked semi with government plates.
Worried the driver is in medical trouble he follows the rig to the breakdown lane and confirms his fear. The driver whose grey hair reminds Pike of his fathers insists the transport must keep moving claiming a national emergency and they were about to become a statistic if the truck doesn't keep moving.
Agreeing to help deliver the secret cargo to North Carolina, Pike leaves his stale life in Massachusetts behind only to end the day in front of a full sniper squad.
As he learns the consequences of a good deed, Pike finds himself tangled in a hush-hush specialty government unit.
To become part of this team, he must face death from his past and overcome handling a firearm.

I don't remember how long ago I got this ebook. I am pretty sure it was a couple of years ago. I know it was a free for anyone's review situation because it was not anything I would have bought.
A young trucker in some personal and financial difficulties falls into what is a secret program for shipping government equipment and unidentified stuff across the country along the highways. It's dangerous and mysterious. They seem to be private contractors.
I am not sure how realistic it all is, but it was a good read. Young men of a certain age will enjoy it, and young women of an adventurous mind will like it, too.

tl;dr: 'Assigned to Ghost' has an engaging storyline but is let down by poor editing
Pike Evans is a down on his luck ex-military driver who gets co-opted into delivering a secret government consignment. His performance impresses the actual driver of the truck, who then asks Pike to join this elite team. But Pike needs to overcome his fears as well as win over the rest of the group. Will he be able to do it?
'Assigned to Ghost' is a relatively small story. It is quite engaging with its mix of interesting characters, military boot camp setting and its road trip oriented story. Most of the story is not that original. We have seen multiple versions of the boot camp story before. But, somehow, the author is able to take these stale ingredients and makes the whole mix seem fresh and entertaining. The story compelled me to keep reading till the very end.
But all is not well. The whole structure has a weak foundation, and that is the horrid editing. There are issues on the first page itself. The tenses mix - past tense holds hands with future tense and then goes back to mingling with present continuous. Initially, I thought that this story was about time travel and that the author was trying to show the protagonist existing across the timelines. But then it became evident that this whole thing is an editing problem. The middle of the book seems ok. But then the issues crop up a lot towards the end. It is as though she was facing a deadline and had to finish the book in a hurry. And yes, the ending is quite abrupt too. I spent some time trying to see if I got a bad copy. But then, when I saw some other reviews, I realized that the book did, in fact, end suddenly.
So, in conclusion, I think there is a lot of potential in the story and character. But the writing needs to be a rigorous editing effort to make the story live up to its potential.

I won this book in a goodreads drawing.
A veteran is at a bit of a low point, driving a produce truck, when he stops to help a man in a strange rig. It turns out the guy is driving truck for a special government service, taking secret loads all over the country. The veteran is hired, and tries to fit in with his new cohorts.
Not bad. Trucking novels are a relatively small sub-genre, but this one is entertaining.

Loving how the story develops. Want the next one already, does pike finally get along with Morris or does a not so friendly rivalry develop. Does Pike pass and become a full fledged driver

Amazing read!
I would have never picked this book to read myself...I won it as an e-book from Goodreads and am totally glad I did!...I read it in 2 nights because I couldn't put it down!...the ending was pretty cool

Ended too soon
I enjoyed it. It was really a pretty short read, and ended abruptly. I'll definitely read the next. The only criticism I would have is grammar and spelling (seen him coming instead of saw, and some strangely placed commas) but they weren't bad enough to interrupt the story's momentum. If you're looking for a quick, fun read, I would definitely recommend it.

Story is good. Proof reading, word choice and grammar not good.
The story line is good, but it book reads like a first draft.
Punctuation is bad. Needs polishing and editing. Looking forward to future work from this author.

Couldn't put it down
Then it ended with no resolution. Not even next book to follow. I hate when that happens. Will look for the next one though.

Lot of adventure

An interesting setup, but that's all it really is. Easy to read, popcorn book with some minor character development but no real plot. Felt like the notes for worldbuilding a longer novel.
