The last thing I expected was to find a crazed gunman, bleeding to death in my woodshed. My cabin deep in the Montana mountains, I am all alone and helpless when Body O’Rourke takes me captive, threatening to kill me if I didn't help him.
The man is dangerous, an admitted killer, who had forced himself on me, so why didn't I run for my life when I had the chance? Why did I nurse him back to health? Why did he make me quiver with unknown sensations every time he gazed at me and practically growled my name like a feral animal?
The weeks tick by, the snow trapping us in the cabin together. Tension thickens, emotions heighten, and carnal needs get to the point where sanity no longer matters. Inhibitions be damned, our chemistry rocks that mountain to the core, changing me forever.
Come spring, with the melting snow, the authorities would find him. The freedom I once prayed for now terrified me more than being held captive. No matter what happened, I knew I would always be his little mouse.
2.5 ✨ Shout out to Ⓛ for recommending a book to me just to wait till I’m finished to tell me she dnf’d it! Its the audacity for me!! Who does this kind of shyt 😭🤦🏻♀️. Still love her tho 🥹.
I wish the spice had started sooner here. To be honest, I probably would have dnf if it had. I knew it was dark so the non/dubcon isn't the reason I say that. I've read plenty of that so it's not a trigger for me. It's just the spicy talk - so cringe - and the...unsanitary practices during those scenes that ruined it for me. Not trying to yuck anyone's yum but the back-to-front and back-to-mouth action for Lucy was not my jam. Not even a little. I liked the mmf dynamic though.
i wanted to give this book a try since it seemed interesting but i really wish i didn't spend the $3 it cost on kindle. i will say this time and time again but rape is not dark romance and i'm tired of people fetishizing rape and sa. it's gross and its extremely offensive to people who have been through things like that. the mmc even repeatedly apologizes to the fmc as he is sa-ing her, saying that he "just can't help himself". like. are you serious. to add to that, he literally tells her to lock her bedroom door and barricade it with her dresser so he can't get in there and rape her again in the middle of the night. be so fucking for real. i'm so extremely tired of people writing sa scenes and saying that it's "dark romance" and that ppl shouldn't be offended because it's not for everyone. in what world are these scenes ok?? and the fact that the fmc recognizes it as rape and they continue to bring it up later like "he's a murderer, a domestic abuser, and a rapist but he has a nice dick so it's ok 😻😻". i'm very tired of the dark romance argument so i'm not going to talk about it anymore but yeah. i hated this book. also, funny enough, this book was so bad that it brought me out of my review slump so yay 😻
It slowed down about 50% in, and I got bored. I felt as if I were living every day with nothing to do out in the woods in a cabin in a snowstorm. I really liked the beginning, the story development and how growly Body was, how hot and uncontrollable he was for Lucy. But after that initial scene, that climatic act, it seemed as if the book purposefully slowed down.
They got to know each other — and the neighbor Jim for some group action, but otherwise the story was simply ok.
There was some very interesting things in this book! I loved the MMF aspect. Body has this complete I don't care about anything attitude which resulted in some unsanitary decisions but other then that the spice was great!! I did joke with a friend that we probably needed a spreadsheet to keep track of all the things Lucy stuck in her back door, some very questionable lol There are some emotional parts to this book but it does have a HEA so it's good.
Once they said “I love you,” I just got bored 🥱 The spice was decent but I could not stand the dirty talk. It just wasn’t that hot. Also, I love a 2+ story but Jim just wasn’t it. Okay, one last thing, fuck body for being so pissy his gf cheated, when he was cheating too. Ugh, can’t stand that shit 🙄
But a definite worthwhile read for anyone brave enough.for some unconventional and dark romance. A person is not good or bad...we have both good and bad in all of us. It is the circumstances that may dictate how we perceive our reality.
A mysterious injured stranger with a gun comes stumbling onto Lucy's property and forces her to nurse him back to health.
Along the way, they go from loathing each other to loving each other. And when an overly friendly neighbor joins their relationship, the three of them become inseparable.
But life isn't easy. Brody is on the run and has a plan to escape prison. But will Lucy and Jim join him?
This was wonderful! I honestly don't understand some of the negative reviews. The story was seriously gripping and sexy. I couldn't put it down.
These three are seriously hot for each other and it was super sexy to read about them. I loved that this was mmf and not just mfm. So hot!
It starts off with some "noncon". But I've read stories (even by this same author) that I would more clearly label noncon. This was iffy. Lucy seemed pretty into it and doesn't clearly tell him to stop but moans and stuff, so I could see where his confusion would actually come from thinking she wanted it. It seemed like she did to me!
This was one scene. After that everything was clearly consensual. Although there are some rough sex and degradation kinks going on. But I liked that personally.
The ending iffy at first. I was really pissed about Jim getting left behind. But it all worked out and I was happy with how it ended.
Overall a great book! I really liked it and couldn't put it down. I'm really liking this author.
Anytime I see a rook chess piece from now on I will think of Lucy. I am a fan of NC and Forced proximity and this book had both of these followed by all the delicious dirty talk and some super smutty scenes, including some with our new fav neighbour Jim. Both characters are are morally grey but they both have super sweet sides which they show towards each other. I think Body had to be the nicest captor ever, as he let glimpses of his sweet side show through even whilst holding her at gun point. I’m also a sucker for animals in books, so adored Henry!
I didn’t really enjoy the grunting sex noises written out but other than that I enjoyed everything else. Would recommend!
I devoured this book in one sitting. I was hooked. I actually loved it, not the darkest book I’ve read but definitely not for the lighthearted. Stockholm syndrome? Probably. Did I care? Absolutely not. Because the MMC was HOT! I found myself hoping for a HEA the entire book and I wasn’t disappointed. Not only did they get a HEA but they got an extra penis in the relationship too (which, let’s be real, is always a bonus). Would definitely re-read this one!

Cheating? Yes but not between the MC OW drama? Kinda? The H has his 6 previous girlfriends tattooed on his body Trigger: major non-con and dub-con themes
This book reminded me a lot of Lauren Biel's Wanted. Similar premise, similar starting. The H has just m*rdered his previous gf because
he is on the run but he is stabbed by the gf before he leaves, so when he comes across the h's cabin he just wants to stay for one night but there's a snow storm. he basically forces the h to help him. h has a dog that has a habbit of running away and going to the neighbour who is married. Said neighbour is the second M in the trio.
They spend their days but one day he finds himself unable to resist her and basically non-con's her. after that he finds out she has only ever been with her husband (). He sets out to prove her s*x can be fun. Many times he warns her to leave and barricade the door of her room or else he will break in.... She barricades the door but he tries to sneak into the room every night anyways. She sees and hears the doorknob turning. Him pleading and begging to just let him in. One night he actually BREAKS into the room she is in.
This scene was just
the dog who runs off is always returned by one such neighbour who likes to flirt with the h. the h gets the ick from him cuz she thinks he is a cheater but when she says "I love you" to the H, he freaks out because he think he will leave at the end of winter... so he says to screw the neighbour so she knows she isn't mixing great smex with love. So she screws the neighbour and there is voyerism. "Jim gripped himself, aimed, and eased inside." The first time the neighbour sleeps with the h the H watches from the shadows and legit screws her and give her oral because he loves how hot it is. Next Time they invite him and slowly slowly every time they are together the H pushes the limits of Jim, the neighbour until eventually Jim too wants to participate in some MM. Jim has been messing around with farm hands in the summer behind his wife's back for years.
His wife is a salty woman who suspects the three but doesn't say anything. She is critical and often rude and mean to Jim, so the h thinks its ok Jim cheats.
the H's past catches up to him and him and the h are forced to go on the run from the police. Some weeks later Jim joins them too and HEA.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I went in blind, didn't read reviews or trigger warnings, and I'm glad I did it that way. However, if you are a sensitive reader, this book has all the triggers.
I quite liked it. I'm a fan of MMF, non-con, bondage, forced proximity, insertions, and all the various happenings that occurred in this book. I think it was an interesting premise and by the end, I was reading in the dark to find out what was going to happen. I was unsure if there would be a HEA and it kept me reading past daylight hours in the dark.
There were a few things I disliked. I hate the name Body. The dirty talk wasn't hot. I didn't like the written "ugh" and "hunmm" during sex. I don't need sex noises written out lol. And this is the second book I've read of Stallard's. Once again, there is no heading with a character name. It just throws me off for a second. I'm not sure who is talking when the chapter starts. And sometimes the characters change mid chapter and I'm not sure who is speaking. I'd appreciate a header with a character name. Not everyone does this, but I think the majority do.
Overall, I liked it a lot and would recommend it. I'll probably reread it at some point. It's going in my dark and taboo reading group as a suggestion and I think they will like it. I recommended her FIL book as well. Happy reading ❤️
Not sure when coughing became a thing used to denote an emotional response, though. That got old quick. Every other page someone coughed after expressing a feeling or strong emotion.
I found it weird the guys calling each other "boy" and then the Canadian fellow doing the same. It's not typical. At least not where I'm from, Texas.
I wish we had gotten more background on Mouse. I literally just finished this book... Lucy. Like more on her childhood, the cult-like atmosphere, the husband, etc.
Also, has the author ever been fucked anally with no lubrication of any sort? I have. (Rape.) It's one of the most painful experiences so these guys just impaling each other literally pulling pants down and ramming? On more than one occasion? NOPE.
I thought Jim was initially like a 60yr old skeezy kind of guy until you described him prior to Lucy getting it on with him for the first time. I was confused as to why she was responding the way she was until you said he was middle aged and hot. I wouldn't have guessed.
Still gets 4 stars because there was a story, it developed nicely, the romance was good.

I was really torn about this book. There were parts I loved and then parts I wasn’t so keen on.
I will start with parts I wasn’t so keen on: The grunts. This book contains lots of spicy scenes (which I love by the way) but in a lot of those the sex grunts were written and after a few times the ‘ungh and ugh’ were giving me the ick a bit. I love the dirty talking and the degrading language, I love the descriptions, I’m just not keen on the grunts.
The book is told in multiple POV but they weren’t titled so you didn’t always know whose POV you were reading initially which could make things a little confusing. Headers would have been great.
Things I loved: The background story and the way it was revealed.
The spicy scenes.
The character growth.
The relationships between characters.
The ending.
I’d check triggers before reading, it wasn’t what I expected but I enjoyed it anyway.
First off, HJ writes such unique, absolutely wild stories. She’s a mad genius, and this book is another 5 star wild story from her. I devoured this book, only putting it down to go to work. *spoilers below* -characters are in their late 20’s+ -starts off as non-con, graduates to dub-con, ends with enthusiastic consent for the majority of the book. -starts as MF and turns to MMF -fricken delicious 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️💦💦💦💦💦 -HEA. At one point you think there won’t be an HEA, and you might want to throw your kindle, but there IS an HEA! -cheating-ish-kinda, but you won’t be mad about it, because the H loved that the h did it. And the other H 100% cheats on his wife to be with the first H and h (he and his wife basically hate each other)
27 Weeks is the 2nd book I’ve read by this author and just wow. The characters are flawed and morally grey, which I love, and the spice is over the top and FILTHY! There were definitely a few things I didn’t see coming and I couldn’t get enough of this book.
𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕋𝕠 𝔼𝕩𝕡𝕖𝕔𝕥: 💋MF which turns into MMF 💋Non con/Dub con, which leads to eager consent the rest of the story 💋Degradation and Praise 💋Questionable use of objects 💋Downright FILTHY spice
HJ Stallard I love your brain! I absolutely love that your books have little twists in them that you don't t expect. It's a wonderful change of pace to the monotony that most of the books we read have.
The plot was great, the spice scenes are so good and so dang hot! That dirty talk is on point! It's also refreshing to read about a couple of real scenarios, noises or protests revolving around spicy scenes.
And..oh. my. God. Body is filthy in the best way possible.
This is 4/4 books that I've loved of yours! Now onto book 5 and 6! Can't wait!
This book… I’m speechless. This book definitely has a ton of red flags! It is an emotional journey for the characters, neither receiving appropriate love in their life and both morally gray. Then adding Jim… who isn’t a saint either. Chefs kiss! Plot / smut was amazing!
This one started out strong, but I seemed to have lost interest by the halfway point, and just finished it to finish it. I don't mind the sharing that took place, or that it ended up being MMF, but I do wish I'd have known that going into it, and I'm sure that there will be lots of other people complaining about it. Overall, it was okay, but I might have liked it if it were a little shorter, say, 12 or 15 weeks instead. And it felt like the author knew that too, as time really started jumping at the end, and some larger plot points took place off page and were just explained to us after the fact.
Fun premise, but author needed to work on transitions and pacing. Body and Lucy went from mutual mistrust/hostility to lovers way too quickly and then to being in love. Then the ending was a LOT of plot all at once, squeezed into too few chapters.
Author needed editorial; some very distracting grammar and punctuation errors.
I really liked this one. I liked FIL more, but this was awesome. It was intense. Really intense, so, so very good. Honor the TW. Seriously, I think for many they won’t go far enough, so just understand that is book intense, but worth it.
Great characters and plot . Body just wanted to hide out until he was feeling strong enough but Lucy finds him in her wood shed . He takes her captive until he’s feeling fit enough to travel but things don’t work out quite to plan.
I can't believe how good this book was. Wasn't expecting much, but I got hooked about 25% of the way in. Character development was **Chefs Kiss** good. The other person at first I was like.. ugh... but it was needed. Needed for everything. So good.
It was a good story very hot and steamy. But MMf action and if you weren’t prepared it might have surprised you. The need turn a bit too much into just constant smexy times. Could have used a little more story at the end.
This is the second book by this author that I’ve read and I was NOT disappointed. Great character development and great mfm romance with mm action as well. I couldn’t have asked for anything better.
