An introduction to the varieties of "bugs" in N. Cal. Not intended to be a full list, nor to give extremely detailed descriptions. The author simply picked ones that are "big, colorful, really hard to miss, or extremely weird" and devotes one page with a drawing and two paragraphs to each one.

About the stink beetle "In other parts of the world, some stink bugs can 'drink' from moist air, early in the morning, simply by opening their anus to the breeze, before the sun comes up." Sadly, only a more boring relative lives in Cali., but he still thinks I would want to know this. And he is correct.
