A sacrificial murder. A child’s body. And a web of lies and corruption.
The dismembered body of a young migrant boy is discovered wrapped in a blanket on the edge of a Brighton housing estate.
As more bodies turn up, it soon becomes clear that a sadistic killer is preying on the children of asylum seekers, mutilating them in some kind of bizarre sacrificial ritual.
When DI Scott Baker and his team are called to investigate, they discover a community too terrified to speak out, and a local pastor with secrets to hide.
Even worse, the case is linked to corruption in the Home Office and it becomes clear that someone there knows more than they are saying. And they are determined to have the entire investigation shut down.
Can Scott stop this ruthless serial killer before more innocent children are slaughtered?
An Evil Offering – the fifth novel in the gripping crime series featuring DI Scott Baker.

Crime Never Pays… Well yes and no depending on what side of the fence you’re on!
I’ve always had a strong passion for whodunnits, crime series, and books. The more I immersed myself in it, the stronger the fascination grew.
In my spare time, you’ll find me in the gym, reading, binge watching Netflix or taking walks in the forest.
Oh, and I’m an avid people watcher, I just love to watch people, their mannerisms, and their way of expressing their thoughts… weird I know, but I could spend hours doing that. It's funny, because watching people often gives me insights and inspiration for describing human interaction in my books.
Fun fact: My favourite, bestest place ever on earth? Any of the Florida theme parks and the mad coasters out there. Add the food, shopping and weather, and you've got the best place on earth... especially when I see the joy on the faces of my family when we're out there :)
Weird fact: Spending an afternoon in a mortuary to bring my books to life. Oops! poor choice of words there :)
This was another great read, albeit a gruesome one. Scott and his team are involved in a series of brutal murders which seem to have roots in some African rituals.
It was quite difficult to read at times due to the nature of the killings but wasn't overdone. The author paints a very authentic picture and I wouldn't like to be involved in a police investigation of this kind. It was a total page-turner and I couldn't read it fast enough. Roll on the next one. This series is going from strength to strength.

DI Scott Baker is faced with one of his most disturbing cases when the body of a mutilated immigrant child is found. More bodies are discovered and the murders bear the hallmarks of a ritual known as muti. But who is responsible? And how, if at all, is the local MP involved?
This series of books just gets better and better, the character development combined with the storyline make for a thrilling read.

Book 5 in the series, the story works as a standalone. Following the rest of the series, the crime is revealed to the readers before Scott takes on the case from start to finish. The book focuses more on Scott and the investigation with a few chapters switching to an alternative perspective so readers gain an overall view of the story.

Lots of twist and turns in this very disturbing story. The sadness and realism can be overwhelming as you think, is nothing scared or off limits anymore? I like how we get to know Scott n Abby a little more. The whole team is great, especially trying to find lightness and laughter when dealing with a horrid case. Can’t wait to read more from Jay. Every book gets better n better, all though NOT the cases.

Quick pacing, interesting characters and plot line. I would recommend to fans of police procedurals. Currently reading all books in series here and DI Karen Heath series.
Congratulations on yet another brilliantly written book. With DI Scott Baker and his team. I Absolutely enjoyed reading each and every one of these books and you will too.
Another great book from this author. Covers the very gruesome subject of muti killings and this is a real eyeopener. A very difficult investigation for Scott and his team especially when political influence comes into play. We, again, follow the team and their private lives as the case evolves and the strains this puts on them. Just another superb novel.
