i read this manhwa a couple of years ago and fell for it so hard. it's so soft yet deals with a lot of personal issues for each of the main characters.
finding it in italian was beyond unexpected, and i am so happy to have found it. i got to rediscover the story and characters (funny how changing languages with some works can literally feel like a first time).
anyway, i can't help but fall again for this story and Qi Shi and Nan Jue.

Qi Shi è un ragazzo normalissimo, ma per via del suo aspetto “spaventoso” fatica a trovare un lavoro e ad avere amicizie. Un giorno, a una riunione di con i suoi vecchi compagni di classe, incontra Nan Jue che è un consulente d’immagine. Da qui inizia l’amicizia tra i due infatti Nan Jue vuole aiutare Qi Shi a sembrare meno minaccioso. I due quindi diventeranno sempre più amici, rivelando lati sconosciuti l’uno all’altro. Tra i due nascerà qualcosa? Chissà.
È da un po’ che questo webtoon veniva consigliato da alcune pagine che seguo sia su Instagram che su Tiktok e quindi spinto dalla curiosità o deciso di recuperarlo. Seppur abbia letto solo il primo volume, mi sento già di consigliarlo, per due semplici motivi. In primis per la dolcezza di questo volume. Di solito non mi piacciono troppo le cos’è troppo sdolcinate e quindi avevo paura che questa storia fosse una di quelle.
Invece mi sono dovuto ricredere perché l’autore è riuscito a spargere la dolcezza senza risultare stucchevole e quindi ho apprezzato questa storia. La seconda caratteristica che mi ha fatto apprezzare questo volume è che all’interno di questo volume non troviamo solo la componente romantica, ma anche una storia dai toni più seri. Troviamo infatti oltre al tema dell’apparenza e di come a volte ci basiamo solo sul aspetto fisico, anche il tematiche che molto probabilmente verranno approfondite nei prossimi due volumi come le minacce e la violenza in una relazione tossica. Questa scelta mi è piaciuta, perché è piacevole che in una storia prettamente romantica vengano arricchite da tematiche importanti!
È da un po’ che questo webtoon veniva consigliato da alcune pagine che seguo sia su Instagram che su Tiktok e quindi spinto dalla curiosità o deciso di recuperarlo. Definitivamente, salvo 过度接触 y otro que se llama The Guy Inside Me (que, oh sorpresa, es del mismo autor), no me gustan los BL chinos. Tipo, para que vas a hacer una historia sobre una relación amorosa entre dos hombres si, por cómo es tu cultura, vas a censurar lo poco que pasa y no sos ni capaz de hacer que tus personajes digan en voz alta lo que sienten por el otro? No thanx prefiero smut a esto toda la vida

I think the best way to describe this story would be 'soft'. Idk how to explain it but this word seems to fit the story best IMO. Maybe it's the watercolour art style or how adorable these two are... honestly idk
As for the story, It was sad to see how Qi Shi missed out on so much of what life had to offer simply because people are narrow minded and never gave him a chance, quickly judging him based on the scar. As for Nan Jue, his personal struggles with domestic violence - and I believe feelings of loneliness despite always being surrounded by others - were truly so sad.
Even though we didn't get to see them as a couple - they did cohabit for most of the story though - I'm glad they were able to find each other again, help each other heal and fall in love

Primo albo che affronto di questo autore di cui ho sempre voluto provare qualcosa proprio a causa dello stile di disegno.
Purtroppo non mi ha convinta a continuarlo. Non è scattata la scintilla.
Inoltre trovo che i contorni bianchi delle figure li stacchino troppo dallo sfondo, creando un effetto grafico che mi ha dato fastidio: parevano figurine appiccicate sulla pagina e non facenti parte della storia.
La trama è molto semplice e basilare, non brutta ma non mi ha convinta così tanto a voler proseguire con la lettura.

Just read the first italian volume, and it's amazing!
I really really loved both characters and their story.
It's the first time I read a chinese manga (if there's a specific name I'm sorry) and the colours, the traits.. it was amazing! A new and fantastic experience.

This was an adorable and wholesome story about how a kind act you do at one point in your life can mean so much to someone else, and might even come back to you when you need it.
Qi Chi has a scar on his face that he got while saving a classmate from bullies in elementary school. That scar, combined with his quiet and cool aura, makes him look intimidating to people. This has hindered him from making friends so far in this life. Now at 24 years old, he meets the guy he saved back then (being the centre of attention wherever he goes), who happens to be an Aura Alteration Specialist and promises to help Qi Chi become more approachable.
This is such a sweet story that also deals with more serious topics. One character has been rejected by others all his life and doesn't have confidence, the other has cultivated the skill of getting on everyone's good side because of the bullying he's experienced. Together, they help each other feel safe and whole, and fall for each other along the way.
Of course, the art is just the cherry on top, it's so soft and flowy~

This was actually a reread for me, I read this in 2024 already but realized I never wrote a review so I went back to it. I remembered giving it 4.5 stars and after rereading, I completely stand by that.
This is just super adorable, fluffy and wholesome. No smut, just pure sweetness. The art is absolutely STUNNING. Like genuinely beautiful. The concept is also quite unique, which made it stand out even more. It’s only 40 chapters, which is an okey length, not too short but not extremely long either.
If I had to nitpick, I maybe would’ve liked a bit more buildup around the confession and their mutual feelings. But honestly? It was so cute and heartwarming that it didn’t really matter.
This story just swells my heart with love.

It's probably to soon for me to say something about the plot or the story in general since it's only the first volume and it doesn't go so far, I consider this volume to just being the incipit of the story BUT THE ARTWORKS. Oh my God. I was mesmerized by how beautifully made was this volume. The characters are beautiful, the lines are so good, but what really appeals me the most is the way the artist used the colors.
Definitely going to read the rest of the story to know if the plot is at the same level of the art.

OMG this was so beautiful and the story was soooo good! I loved them both, great characters and I liked their development.
The abuse and bullying parts of the story were incorporated so well and talked about them in a very respectful and nurturing way. All of the outcomes and conversations regarding these themes were very mature and I appreciated the open conversation about them between the character.

Gorgeous art (it reminds me of watercolor paintings), emotions, fluff and slow burn, makes this story easy to read. And chibis are super cute! When I think of Qi Shi and Nan Jue, adorable and naive dummies description comes to mind :D I wish this was longer (felt like it ended very fast), we go some side stories and 'the abuser' got more karma back..

so cute so beautiful i loved it, i think this was a little bit more on the simple side but i didnt mind it,,, its short and worth reading imo :) its about a misunderstood ‘scary’ looking guy and a guy who’s misunderstood as a girl?? and is more on the weaker side,,,,,,,,,,,, i mean this sounds very stereotypical but its not i swear

Am I the only one who has an issue with the fact that Nan Jue dated that trash?
Considering what happened in their childhood, how could Nan Jue even think that trash can change into a better person when he didn't feel an ounce of guilt?
This would have been an easy 4-star if that ex has been a new character and doesn't relate to the incident in their childhood.

Un BL molt vainilla i slow burn que recorda a una versió descafeïnada de l'altre títol "Starting with a lie" (que també m'he llegit, però encara no està a Goodreads). La trama segueix el mateix patró, no aporta pràcticament res de nou, però les il·lustracions són molt cuquis ❤

Non so se è realizzato digitalmente o con veri acquerelli, ma non posso non apprezzare l'utilizzo di questo medium davvero difficile da bilanciare e usare.
La storia è interessante e i due protagonisti mi piacciono. Vediamo dove andrà a parare il resto della storia.

I was smiling like an idiot almost the whole time. The art is as beautiful as the story. The characters are so sweet. I just loved everything about this. The censorship is such a shame. Overall an extremely heartwarming read that brought tears to my eyes.

La storia parte con una forzatura un po' evidente persino per un manhua, ma se non ci si fa caso è totalmente godibile. Lo stile dei disegni è un po' insolito all'inizio, e forse proprio questo mi ha portato ad apprezzarli tanto! Vediamo come si evolve
