Staying in town suited Bauer. Dealing with Kat and Badger’s matchmaking? Not so much. But, when a mutual friend calls to say an injured War Dog was dropped off at her clinic—only to then be stolen during the night after she completed surgery to fix his injured stump—well, Bauer is all over it.

Mags always liked Bauer, but she kept her personal relationships short and sweet. After all, commitments were too often broken and the resultant pain horrific. However, Bauer refuses to leave her in trouble and is here for her every step of the way; plus they share the love of animals. How can she ignore all that? Plus he is a hell of a package. But is she willing to take a chance on being hurt again?

The escalating danger—surrounding Toby, her injured War Dog—catches Mags and Bauer in a web of risk that can only end one way …

This war dog case is bit different than the others. Toby is a large black Malinois German Shepherd mix who was adopted then had medical issues. He was abandoned near a local vet clinic, who had to amputate his leg to save his life.

Magrit 'Mags' Wilden, the vet, had put out information on the war dog trying to help find a suitable family to adopt him. She had one man come in interested but got a bit hostile when she was outlining the adoption process. She calls Badger because her clinic was broken into, and Toby is gone. Toby needs medical care around the clock right now, he just had the leg removed and infection, drainage and pain are an issue.

Bauer Armstrong comes to the office as Badger and Kat are discussing the case. Bauer knows Mags and when he hears about the break in and the dog he takes the case, even before he realizes it is a case.

Mags feels horribly guilty that the dog is gone. She did nothing wrong but even her security didn't stop this from happening. She realized whoever took the dog had ripped out the IV's and other things before taking him and thought maybe prints would be on those things.

Bauer comes and takes the prints leaving it to Badger to find out answers from them.

It's not until the next day that progress is made. Bauer found the truck, it had blood and fur in the back. Now he's going to search the area to see if the dog maybe got away. He hears someone calling for a dog and concludes the war dog is out there.

Mags has ended her day at the Clinic and is thinking about Toby as she looks out over the fields behind her home. She Knows Bauer is out there and decides to start looking from this end. She sends out a plea to Toby and hopes that the wind would carry her scent for the dog to follow. Walking toward where Bauer found the truck, she works her way to a small hill overlooking the fields of tall grass. She sits down and just watches for any movement, silently praying Toby is still okay and would come back to her.

Walking toward home again she thinks she hears a shot. and texts Bauer. He tells her it was a shot and to stay put he's coming to her.

There's a very tense and scary scenario that plays out here. However, a sudden storm helps to end that. Now Bauer and Mags need to find Toby. He has Mags stay where she is and goes looking once more using the whistles used in the military in hopes of a response. He finds Toby and signals for Mags to come to him.

There is no way Bauer is leaving Mags on her own with Toby. The man who was shooting at them and Toby is still out there. Until he's captured no one is safe.

This one had me on the edge of my seat for just about every page. There is a friendship and chemistry between Mags and Bauer that is evident right from the start. This situation just amplifies it all.

I laughed, cried and held my breath as I read, I can't wait to see what the next book in this series has in store for us.

Mags is a veterinarian who took in Toby, a severely injured war dog, who was taken to her clinic for help. He has several injuries, but the worst of them is his leg, which she eventually had to amputate. However, before Toby has any chance to even begin to heal, someone breaks into Mags clinic and kidnaps him. She has no idea who took him or where he is. She just knows that, without special care for his severe wounds and medicine for his pain, Toby will not survive for very long.

Mags reports Toby’s kidnapping to Badger, who sends Bauer to help her find him. He and Badger live in the same town as Mags, and Badger has been trying to set Bauer up on a search and rescue situation. But Bauer always refuses, because he had a K- 9 dog when he was in the military. Unfortunately, he lost his dog at the same time that he lost part of his leg and hand.

When Bauer agrees to help Mags, Badger is ecstatic. He has been trying to get Mags and Badger together because he believes he believes they are meant for each Both of them are hard-working, caring people who have cut themselves off from romance because of their terrible experiences during their short marriages. Even though they have known each other for awhile, they constantly ignore each other and rarely speak to each other when they do meet.

However, Badger’s matchmaking intuition is perfectly accurate. The couple immediately discover the strong chemistry and attraction between them. They are both completely surprised with how comfortable they are around each other, as well as how easily they are able to talk to each other about everything.

Dale Mayer creates two multi-layered, realistic main character for this book. They both are hard-working, intelligent, independent, brave people who have no qualms about standing up for each other, themselves and this severely injured dog. Readers will enjoy their sarcastically funny remarks they make to each other and the

They respect each other’s intelligence, work ethic, independence, and their willingness to always stand up for themselves and Toby. Readers will enjoy their sarcastic banter as a way of calmly discussing their differences.

This page-turner story contains the riveting suspense, non-stop action, and unpredictable situations that Ms. Mayer’s skillfully uses in all of her books.

Another heartwarming story in Dale Mayer's "The K9 Files" series, could Kat and Badgers matchmaking magic work again ?
A strange telephone call from local vet Mags Wilden put Badger on yet another search for a war dog that had gone off the radar.
The injured dog had been brought to Mags with a badly injured leg and despite her best attempts to save it mags eventually had to amputate. On scanning the dog she realised that it was a war dog, a man came to the surgery showing a great interest in the dog but didn't seem interested in the rules for adopting a war dog.............and then it was stollen from Mags surgery, thus the phone call to Badger.
Bauer Armstrong had left his military career behind after sustaining life altering injuries whilst on a mission, he had no interest in a relationship after his wife left him for his best friend but his love of dogs had him agreeing to help Mags to find Toby, the war dog that she had become so attached to.
As this story unfolds there are few clues but it soon becomes clear that the lives of Mags, Bauer and Toby are in danger, Bauer brings all his military skills into play, firstly to relocate Toby and then to keep Mags and Toby safe, Oh, and of course Kat and Badger wouldn't have done their job if Mags and Bauer didn't fall in love.

Complicated with several twists. I felt so sorry for this poor dog, dognapped straight after amputation, disoriented and in pain, not understanding what's going on other than someone is shooting at him after also kicking him, bad weather and other animals stalking. Even after being rescued the danger continues. Bauer and Mags do everything they can to protect Toby while trying to stay safe themselves from the onslaught of bullets and break-ins. Its well written with a steady pace and some deep conversations. Plenty of love for Toby but not the rest he needs to heal. I could sympathise a little with Ken, events in his life had him confused about reality but he still deserved punishment for what he did. There was quite a bit involved around who or what and until near the end it doesn't become clear exactly who is responsible, but I really wanted the book thrown at that person. It's a happy ending though for Toby, Mags and Bauer which is what counts. I was totally invested in this story, Toby claimed my heart from the start then I got the bonus of two caring people invested in his outcome as well. Since this took place close to Kat and Badger we also get a weeny bit more of them as well. Another fantastic story.

Staying in town is right for Bauer but Kat and Badger's matchmaking is something he could do without. When a mutual friend calls to say an injured War Dog was dropped off at her clinic only to be stolen during the night after performing surgery to repair his injured stumpBauer is all over the case. Mags always liked Bauer but ensured that personal relationships were short and sweet as commitments are often broken and the pain afterwards horrific. Bauer refuses to leave her in trouble and they share a love of animals. He is a hell of a package but is she willing to take the chance of being hurt again? The escalating danger surrounding Toby, her injured War Dog - catches Mags and Bauer in a web of risk that can only end one way.

I enjoyed this story with the web of players involved in the attempts to steal and ultimately kill Toby and the deepening friendship between Bauer and Mags. I enjoyed their philosophical discussions about their past hurts and how you take a chance on a new relationship while scared of being hurt again. I loved that Bauer was supportive of her job and the fact that she still needed to eat. Easy to read, feel and understand. This story had mature content at the end.

Another great book in this series. Although these books can be read as a standalone, I find starting at the beginning gives you an inside who some of the main characters are.

Bauer is on the trail of the next war dog, Toby. Determined to find out how and why the dog was hurt puts him in the path of Mags the vet. Mags was hurt and heartbroken at the alter and doesn’t trust a man anymore. It’s down to the Bauer and Mags to find the missing dog and help it. Bullets, break ins and near death are part of what the duo have to contend with.

I loved that Bauer was determined, just as much as Mags was, to not be in a relationship because of past experiences. There was a part of the book where I cheered so hard at Mags because of something she did. Who knew she had it in her from the early stages of reading. You could tell that they both had chemistry but it was always going to take time for one or both to come around to it. I can’t wait for the next instalment of this series.

Bauer by Dale Mayer
K9 Files Series Book Twenty-Two
Bauer Armstrong kept turning down offers to work on the War Dog files for Badger. When a hurt War Dog case comes up at the local veterinarian, he finally agrees to help. When Bauer gets there and finds out the injured dog was stolen…he’s in for sure. Before he knows it, danger is mixed in, and it’s more than Toby, the War Dog, that he wants to protect.
Magrit “Mags” Wilden has left relationships in her past. One big hurt has colored her life since. Instead, she throws all her time and energy in to helping animals. Toby has grabbed her heart, and she wants to get him back and healing.
They are working towards the same end, but both have past hurts. Helping Toby and protecting him from the danger he’s in pulls Bauer and Mags together. This trial may even give them hope for leaving the past behind.

Both Bauer and Mags have eyed each other from a far for a fleeting instant or two with no intention of anything going further. Mags realizes her clinic was broken into an a war dog (Toby)stolen whose leg she just amputated. Bauer, ex military with his own prosthetics, shows up to look into things and assists. It is a fast pace read as they try and find Toby and who stole him. It's not a cut and dry answer and brings some things to light. It was a twisty read, I really enjoyed and had a HEA for some, I did feel like there was one or two minor things that were brought up/mentioned and I waited for a little closure. Maybe there was and I missed it. The major ones were button up snug. Thank you for the arc. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #Bauer #TheK9Files #DaleMayer #ValleyPublishingLTD #Booksprout

Bauer & Mags

This story starts out quite heartbreaking with the dog napping of an injured Toby, the War Dog.

I felt Mag’s urgency to find Toby and get him back as soon as possible. His condition is precarious at best and he will suffer greatly if not located. I felt Bauer’s frustration with the situation and his determination to guard and protect Mags and her vet clinic, no matter what.

The story maintains a level of intenseness throughout, keeping the reader engaged and not going to bed at a decent time of night! This is a must read all the way through until the end.

I just love these War Dog stories. They give a person a sense of pride as well as an emotional investment to see these dogs honored and taken care of as they deserve after their time of service to our country and those they protected.

These stories never get old and the HEA is a wonderful bonus! Love it!

When Mags, who is a vet, contacts Badger to help find a missing K9 named Toby she just finished a surgery on, Kat and Badger send Bauer to assist. They know each other and when Bauer is told it involves Mags, he doesn't hesitate to volunteer. Both of them have been burned in the past when it comes to love but Bauer is determined to move forward with Mags, as long as he can convince her to take a chance….but first he needs to keep Toby and Mags safe as someone is determined to do whatever it takes to make sure the K9 does not make it.
A good read with suspense, surprises and good characters. I liked these two and how Bauer doesn’t shy away from his feelings and is determined to have a future with Mags. I liked the little to no drama between them and the story flowed nicely.

This story was a little different from the previous ones in that it didn't require someone to travel to another city/state to locate a missing War Dog. The local vet had performed surgery on a War Dog but then it was stolen during the night. And while Badger had been wanting to play matchmaker for Bauer, he had been resistant. However, when he found out that Toby (War Dog) was stolen from Mags's clinic, nothing more needed to be said.

The assignment started as a simple search for Toby but then turned into much more as danger escalated and Mags was threatened. In the meantime, as Bauer and Mags spent time together, they discovered they had more in common than a love for animals. I loved the progression of their relationship through the story and that they both got their HEA.

The Time of Their Lives

Bauer Armstrong, a strong man and veteran, loves animals, especially dogs, and Mags Wilden, local veterinarian and animal lover have known each other peripherally for a few years. They are both independent, but lonely. When a war dog case draws them together it is clear, at least to Bauer, that they are perfect for each other. It takes patience, persuasion and persistence on Bauer's part to help Mags see the truth. He must also protect Mags and war dog Toby from attacks against them. Bauer is a smart and effective investigator. Mags is smart enough to finally recognize what a good man he is, but is she too late to accept her best life? Reading their story is all about the best romance and love.

Bauer tells Badger that he doesn’t want to be part of the welfare checks for the war dogs. He lost a war dog in battle and has a hard time dealing with dogs. He’s heard about Badgers matchmaking and after receiving a Dear John letter while overseas he has trouble trusting women. When he finds out that someone broke into Mag’s clinic and kidnapped the war dog, he volunteers to help her out and make sure that she is ok. She also has trouble trusting men, after she caught her fiancé with her best friend. Can Bauer and Mag protect the war dog? Can they move forward from their past to find love? The book had an original plot where you don’t know who is responsible for the kidnapping until the final twist. I think you’ll love this book.

This series about missing retired K9 dogs continues to capture my attention as injured recovering Seals often volunteer to investigate and help protect these retired dogs. In this case Toby brings Bauer and Mags together to solve the mystery. Toby being the abducted dog.
The people involved in recruiting these volunteers Have discovered an added bonus which was unintentional in the beginning and now has become a constant and that is matchmaking which makes the story even more fun than just a mystery. Well done as always!.

When an injured war dog appears at her door Mags only concern is getting him through surgery and helping him heal. Finding out that he has been abducted has her concerned, so she contacts Badger who convinces Bauer to investigate what happened and why.

An injury ended more than Bauer’s military career as it also cost him his marriage and his K9 partner. He has closed himself off to letting anyone too close however he isn’t about to let a dog or Mags to the danger they are facing alone.

Neither Mags nor Bauer was looking for love or a relationship but everyone else in their lives knew that they belonged together as they take us on a suspenseful and romantic ride.

I always really enjoy this series. The war dogs not only need to find their way home, but the vets need to find their true love during the rescue.
Always a heart warming ending to this great series. Along with heart stopping action as the heroes solve the mystery of where the dog has been and who wants to hurt or stop it.
Bauer is helping the local vet, a break in saw a dog stolen and bullets flying. Both Bauer and the veterinarian had past baggage. Could they let go and find love again. There is danger around them, will it destroy a budding romance?
Fantastic story, can't wait for the next one in this series.

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book and I really enjoyed it.

This is the 22nd book in the K9 Files series, it's a fast-paced intriguing military romance, it can be read as a standalone story.

Local veterinarian Mags, has an injured war dog that has just been dognapped post surgery, Badger and Kat send Bauer to help Mags however the drama is deeper than they thought when Mags and Bauer start getting shot at. Good Story, well-written storyline, wonderful likable characters. Definitely recommend this book and the series.

I really enjoyed this book taking place where Badger and Kat live and that Bauer already knew Mags before everything goes down with Toby the war dog.
It's definitely puzzling as to why someone would take Toby when he is so incapacitated so Bauer and Mags along with Badger have got one heck of a mystery on their hands. Add in that both Mags and Bauer have been burnt by significant others in the past them getting to the point of testing the waters and ending up with steak make for a great story.

So much confusion and trauma

Toby is a really sweet dog, even when injured and in pain he can sense the good people from the bad and embraces them. He fully accepts both Mags and Bauer as his protectors, but is determined to protect them too. This is a journey of self discovery for both Mags and Bauer, they have to face some hard truths about their pasts and how they have dealt with the emotional fall out from broken relationships. It's finally time to face their demons and open their hearts to a future....together.

war dog

I love to read these stories and have a happy ending for the War Dogs. They deserve all the goodness and kindness they can get after serving their country.
Bauer sorted out Mags, the dog, the good guy, and the bad guy. He had lots of help and enjoyed looking after Mags especially. Toby was badly injured and then while healing ended up with fractured ribs from the bad guy. He had it rough. But Bauer and Mags helped him to heal and get used to his amputation. Kat is going to work on a prosthetic leg for him.

Another great story by Dale! This one is about Bauer, Mags and Toby. The story starts with Toby being delivered to Mags' clinic. As Toby recovers from surgery, he kidnapped by an angry vet who hates all dogs. As the story progresses, we learn why this couple was afraid to commit to any relationship. As we discover who the bad guy was, Mags gets angry with the guy. He is finally taken care of. These two finally talk and figure out they have something special together. Glad they start working on their happy ending. FANTASTIC job Dale! I would recommend this book!

A fast paced story with a number of twists and turns and two people who have being eyeing one another from a far for months if not longer. Mags is afraid of a relationship based on a previous experience for most of the book. She holds herself back and tries to put Bauer off at every turn and corn. Bauer knows what he wants and allows himself to tell her what he wants. The events bringing them together are a break in at her Veterinary Clinic and the disappearance of the War Dog she performed surgery on. After a couple of additional events Mags is left on her own where she has time to think about her life and make some decisions. The nice thing about Mags and Bauer is they are able to talk and they have some interesting and insightful conversation. Then the sparks fly and they have their happy ending.

Bauer is the twenty-second book in the The K9 Files series by Dale Mayer.
An injured War Dog has been stolen from a vet clinic where he was recuperating after surgery. Mags the veterinarian is devastated since Toby really needs medical care to pull through without complications. Bauer is friends with Mags and decides he needs to help her when he hears what happened to the War Dog.
