Overall Rating: 3.5 (Rounded to 4.0 for Goodreads)
I really enjoyed Tanisha Stewart’s Red Series so when I heard about this one, I knew I needed to read it.
The day I decided to read this book was a Sunday and Sundays are my usual chore days, so I ended up reading the physical book and listening to the audiobook in order to finish the book. It was a quick read. Whenever I had some time to sit down, I took out the physical copy and when I had to get back to my chores, the audiobook kept me company. I finished it all within a few hours.
First, let’s talk plot. So we have Yana who is married to Shawn. They have been married for 5 years and have three kids. They love each other, though their relationship is not perfect. Yana is up for a promotion at her job, and her husband Shawn is really rooting for her to get it. If she does, it will help the family tremendously. So, it’s all hands on deck. Shawn puts his dreams on the back burner to support his wife and the two decide the best thing to do is to get a nanny to help with the kids while Yana focuses on her job so she can put her best foot forward and get the promotion. But boy did they get more than they bargained for with this nanny. Sasha is the new nanny and as soon as she enters their lives, Yana notices some weird things about Sasha. She has the kids calling her mommy, she is organizing and moving Yana’s things around and when Yana enters the room, Shawn and Sasha go mute. What is going on here? What secrets are Shawn and Sasha hiding and will it be too late by the time Yana finds out?
This was a story full of twists and turns that had me feeling like I was on a roller coaster ride. First, I really liked the couple. They felt relatable to me. You can see that they loved and respected each other and are just the typical parents/couple working hard now so their kids can have a better future.
However, Ms. Yana got on my nerves at times. I guess I kind of understood how/why she let a lot of the things that Sasha did go but sis, trust your intuition! If anything, this story shows us that we have to trust ourselves. If we think something is not right, look into it right away…do not let time or the possibility of hurting someone’s feelings get in the way; better to be safe than sorry. This book also shows us that we have to keep our priorities straight. Money and promotions are great, but not at the expense of losing your family.
This whole book was like watching an episode of Snapped or one of those Lifetime movies. I was invested y’all. So many crazy things happened and just like I yell at my T.V. when I’m watching those shows and movies, I was yelling at all the characters while I was reading.
The ending was ok. I kind of knew/suspected where things were going so I wasn’t surprised about anything. I did feel like there were some plot holes and I had some questions at the end of the book, but overall it was ok.
The audiobook, I am not sure if it was the narrator or what, but she had me laughing a few times and I had to wonder, should I be laughing here. LoL. The audiobook is included in the KU membership so if you have that, I would recommend listening to it. The sole narrator did a relatively good job playing the different characters so overall all, it was ok.
I would recommend this book because it was quick, easy to read and entertained me during my Sunday chores. It is not too dark, in my opinion and it is somewhat relatable so I think people who like light thrillers with some suspense/mystery, will enjoy this read.
